Does Your School Have Well-defined Cliques? A sort of social order, if you will.

Recommended Posts

my school is a junior high so the 9th graders, like myself, are the only real high school kids. but even so, there's still the cliques. my school is considered the preppy school of all the other junior highs in the city. we have preps and semi-popular kids, both are divided into good and bad preps. then we have punk/goths, no real goths at my school. there's the normal kids who are just laid back and arent really the spotlighted ones. there's the quiet ones with their own little group. the smart ones at my school arent considered nerdy or anything because they're most likely in the semi-popular crowd. then there's the kinda strange kids who are considered just plain weird. and also the ghetto ones who seem to be taking over the school. so he have a lot different cliques and these are only 7th-9th graders.we're all pretty interlinked, too. mostly because some grades share classes like in art and then cliques in each grade are mixed together in music classes like choir and band so everyone has friends in other cliques. but there is a ton of drama at my school..... :)

Everyone at my school is pretty connected in some way. Everyone thats "punk" "goth" or a "skater" hang out in the same area, along with the drama students, choir students, and band students. Then you have the gangs, the mexicans and "indians" (who are really mexican, but deny it till their graves) ( i live in southern california, if you do to you probably understand what i mean) dont really get a long, but they basically hang around the same area. Then you have the rich kids they basically hang around eachother. But basically we are all intertwined. I am not a social butterfly but i have a lot of friends in many "cliques" People don't really give others a chance, but everyone has something in common with any group. And i cant put myself into a clique, because i dont fit in...so i mingle with everyone. I dont really go in contact with the gangs, but its nice to have friends in them, so that if worse comes to worse they will stick up for you. I dont really hang out with the rich kids either. But i hang out with the nerds, jesus freaks, drama kids... and druggies..But to answer the question, yeah my school has cliques, but no school is really like the movies we dont exactly avoid eachother like the plague.

My school's so friggin' clique-y. But instead of defined nerds, we have our anime geeks, the band geeks, the Latin geeks (me!), emo people, a few goths, punks, "gangstas", the asian whatever they call it, the indian group (of which I'm happily excluded), the athletes - we don't have any real jocks, the random rich kids, the hardrockers. We've got it all. And it's so easy to tell who is in what group. Kinda creepy though

For those who don't know, cliques are basically groups of people that hang around together. It can be a small group of friends or a whole social group.
Most stereotypical high schools have the nerds, punks, preps, ghetto, goths, emos/skaters, losers, etc., but are most high schools very stereotypical? I wouldn't really know since I go to a magnet high school for nerds, so the social classes are kind of blurred together. The nerds are friends with the preps, few people are considered losers, there's no ghetto, and we only had one goth for about a week. Also, everyone considers themselves somwhat nerdy.

So what are your schools like? Strict social ladder? No real defined groups?

no. The goths hang with the grungers who hang with the smokes who hang with the chavs who hang with the gangsters who hang the semi- grungers who hang with the goths. Biigg circle. Preps have their own group but they socialise with the geeks as well. But definately.. there isn't really any major groups... there are friendship groups but they're like a mixture if you get me. There's sort of just Popular people and Geeks. I'm just like not suited in both groups.. bit like a reject.

There are goths and grungers and chavs and nerds but NOT that many groups. Well I don't think so anyways... i'm sort of blind and I don't really care what goes on.

Mine definitely does. It's bad but most of them are defined by race. Here is how it goes..Gangster TibetansFilipinos (which are sometimes intertwined with the Tibetans)Grade 12 Snooty ChineseStylish KoreansFobby KoreansGrade 10 African-AmericansGrade 10 Whitewashed Chinese (Chinese who think they're white)And then with White people... Since our school is mostly white, there's a lot of different kinds of groups, and most White people will end up going into another racial group. Which brings me too....The Asian Wannabes (which I am a part of)The Emo Kids (which I am friends with even though I'm not emo)The Gay/GSA Kids (which I am also part of)The Grade 9s who don't care about race (tonnes of mixed races) (which I am also part of).... And yeah, that's basically it.

Well there are about 400 students in my grade. And about twenty five new people each year... yeah - BIG school. So I still don't know everyone in my grade. From what I can tell there are cliques but everyone is fairly friendly to eachother. There are no serious nerds because even the popular people study...even though they fail miserably - they still try and they hardly bag out anyone else for being smart. Cliques 1)Popular people (they drink, party, swear etc etc but can be alright if you're nice to them)2)Popular junkies... (self explanatory)3)The Average People which includes me. This is split up into Cool Average People and Average People. The only difference between the two groups is that the "Cool Average People" have better connections with the popular people and are respected by everyone. We have a Goth, tonnes of Korean, Chinese and Japanese cliques otherwise deemed "Asian cliques".And yeah, thats about it.

Our school is just like. There's the german side.... half the year of people who learn german..anmd then theres the other side.. out side - we don't learn german we learn spanish and french. SO yeah that's divided the year up. Thte head teachers did this though. We had some people who think they are good but they talk to the geeks. I've posted here aalready I think.. but oh well. The main groups are chavs/townies, grungers/people who smoke weed, pretty geeks and PROPER geeks. THat's all I know of. I don't really pay that much attention to school affairs.. it gets too complicated. x

Does Your School Have Well-defined Cliques?

In my high school there are plenty of cliques:

Goths

Emos

Nerds

Preps

People who try to be preps but they try to hard(my friend kelsee)

Skaters(usually emos)

Not really any losers but those who keep to themselves

Stoners

Drama makers

Sluts(plenty of those)

That about it there might be a few that I missed

Everyone seems to term them "Popular" but in reality it seems all we're trying to say is "Shallow". It's the kind of life you want to have, but aren't willing to sell your soul for. They are, so they get to hang with the other "Popular" people.

The aforementioned cool average people are probably more popular, in the strictest sense. It's because this type of person is genuine, so more people feel they can be friends with them. If you're too much the god/goddess, you're never going to make any real friends - only people who are just as shallow as you, trying to climb the social ladder.

And to answer the original question; my school did have cliques. I went to a tiny school, so it was highly cliqued. We're talking... 100 people. The only really clearly defined group was the nerds (Including me. I mean, I'm posting on a forum. Come on, I'm obvious). We carried computers around and ate by ourselves. But other than that, there were no stereotypical cliques. Only groups of people who were superior and hung out by themselves.

So there you go. Life sucks everywhere outside of nerd-dom. Nerds are extremely equal. Until one of them has a 10 port router and everybody wants to have a LAN party.

Yeah, Cliques are sort of silly to me, but I still find that they can intermix. The general groups would be,

Preps (outgoing partiers)

Mainstream Sports fanatics (Hockey, football, basketball, most believe they have a huge career ahead of them)

Non mainstream Sports fanatics - (Snowboarding/Golf/tennis who do it for fun)

Student council - (Excessively concerned about making the best resume in the world, get involved with every possible activity)

Stoners - (People who are never sober from any susbstance. Usually talk excessively about drugs, some preps, some gangsters, some metalheads, few nerds)

Music nerds- (People who play a traditional rock band instrument and talk about music non stop, go to shows, play shows.) (Me)

Video game/math nerds- (Guys who master lots of online games, play chess, avoid girls, has all-guy sleepover video game parties) (Me also)

Generally liked people- (accepted by all groups)

Generally rejected people - (rejected by all groups, most notably the very few emos/goths)

Cliques!Does Your School Have Well-defined Cliques?

At my school there is these cliques::

Preps (Very social, but keep to there group, usialy, and shop at stores like aeropastal, hollister, abrecrombie, ETC..)

Skaters (People who ride skate-boards, and know tricks on the skate boards, also known to wear skinny jeans, and such.)

Scene kids (Wear "Loud colors", sometimes shop at stores lyke PacSun, Hottopic, ETCC! And are VERY into music!)

Back-stabers (There is usaly diffrant groups of back-stabers that go around haveing diffrant friends about every week, and then telling there secrets.)

Sluts (They usaly cheet on there bf/gfs, or are just dating that person to laff about what they do behind there backs, or like two or more people at once.)

WannaBe's (Try to be something they are obiusly not, or "Try out" Too many styles.)

Stoners (People who drink and/or smoke. Usaly smoke Pot.)

ETC!

I don't think cliques are that bad, unless yew are useing them to hurt someone.

I think it is okay to lable yerself, and I think it is wrong for people to call yew a poser for THAT.

I think people miss use the word clique when a clique COULD BE just a group of people who have SOME of the same interests.

And don't say yew don't lable people, cause yew do! Calling someone a **** is lableing them!
