Myspace.com who has it, likes, dislikes, etc.

Recommended Posts

It's kinda sad realy that most people in general tend to use the internet for chatting and porn surfing rather than educating themselves through the use of the wealth of knowlege that can be found in cyberspace. In the last 15 years information has become easy to aquire and yet all we can think about is who's doing what on myspace blogs. It's kinda like the junk news we watch. We have all the information in the universe at our fingertips and any question about anything can now be answered with a simple click of the the finger.

I can't say i'm a huge fan of my space, but then I work for profileheaven.com - one of their competitors.

Unfortunately, (& I dont exactly approve) we are going down a similar road to myspace in an effort to keep up.

We are now offering members the facilty to code their own profiles with css, they can upload up to 1,000,000 photos to their albums, we have a video upload section, livechat, forums etc.

One big difference between us and them though is that you actually see staff members on the site, that you can talk to - we dont have a fictional Tom-like character like myspace.

This is an article I read about their operating methods - its quite interesting.

What News Corp. doesn't want you to know about MySpace

1. MySpace is NOT a viral success. MySpace was advertised on mass levels to reach the public. MySpace was created by a company named eUniverse (who later changed their name to Intermix Media). eUniverse was a marketing and entertainment company who had over 50 million e-mail addresses in their databases, as well as over 18 million monthly web users. eUniverse leveraged their resources to proliferate and advertise MySpace.com. eUniverse went as far as telling 3 million users of their paid dating website, Cupidjunction, to sign up for free MySpace accounts.

2. MySpace.com is Spam 2.0. MySpace has spawned an incredibly successful twist on the age-old art of self-promotion, allowing--even encouraging--the marketing of everything from bands to businesses on their site. Essentially, they've opened up a channel through which to solicit and promote everyone and everything, most importantly the individual. The whole site is, in essence, a marketing tool that everyone who registers has access to. Users constantly receive spam-like messages from said bands, business, and individuals looking to add more "friends" (and therefore more potential fans, consumers, or witnesses) to their online identity. A testament to this strange new social paradigm is the phrase "Thanks for the Add," a nicety offered when one MySpace user adds another as a friend. Best yet, to use the site, members must log in, causing them to inadvertently view advertisements, and then read their messages on a page with even more advertisements. In the world of MySpace, Spam is earth, air, fire, and water.

3. Tom Anderson did NOT create MySpace. Most users don't know that Tom Anderson (pictured) is more of a PR scheme than anything else--the mascot designed to give a friendlier feel to a site created by a marketing company known for viral entertainment websites, pop-up advertising, spam, spyware, and adware. As MySpace's popularity grew, the MySpace team moved to create a false PR story that would best reflect the ideals and tastes of its growing demographic. They wanted to prevent the revelation that a Spam 1.0 company had launched the site, and created the impression that Tom Anderson created the site, and the lie worked. According to Anderson, the bulk of his initial contribution is as follows: "I am as anti-social as they come, and I've already got 20 people to sign up."

4. MySpace's CEO Chris DeWolfe is connected to a past of spam and shady business associates and brought those connections to eUniverse/MySpace.

5. MySpace was a direct assault on Friendster.com. The major key players in the ultimate development of MySpace have friendster accounts, and name Friendster and its founder in their original business proposal. The current CEO of MySpace, Chris DeWolfe has been a member of Friendster since June of 2003 (MySpace was not conceived until August of 2003).

I won't complain so much on the concept of MySpace, but I will on the layout. It just hurts my eyes, the way people think they prettify their profile, but instead uglify it, is just ashaming @~@ I've become sick of the brightly colored glittering name tags, bears, dolphins, angels and I used to think that that trend died out, and could only be found on 5 year old Geocities pages, but MySpace appears to be full of those! X__X;;; And the way those pages load, plus the annoying ads and the sometimes very low quality pictures with Paint-blabla scribbled all over them...eww... I have yet to find a decent, inspiring and awesome looking profile layout over there. Aside from the layout, I think the concept is nice. Sometimes I do find myself browsing quite some time through the pages of interesting people, and I like the idea of making bands have their own profile and playlist and such on the site. I think it's very helpful for a band to maintain an account at MySpace! I did make an account over there once, but I'm not actively using it, since I can't stand the layout of the website o_O;;

It is very addicting. The great thing about it is that a lot of celebs are getting them and you can add them and send them messages. And most of them get back to you. It is all very fun to get comments. Add music to your page and videos. It was a really good thing to create. Most people have them.

?Are you sure that celebrities chek out myspace messages? I think famous people hasve people to do these things for them... maybe they reply you in the name of the celebrity, but I don?t see rockstars, actors or whatever replying to thousand of mails and myspace messages from fans.As for the "uglify"... I?m afraid that myspace only shows the idea of "beauty" that lot of people have. People with bad taste uglify it. But it?s true that the layout doesn?t help to make something cool and without ending in a complete mess.

Yes, celebrities do not visit these site, and perhaps have no access to them.. Its their organisations or manager thats helping them out, and most of them do not know anything about it...i do not use myspace because it has a really bad layout and features and its very unsuitable youngster with those "dirty" pictures... I myself uses friendster which most of my friends and asian ppl use... And many ppl now changes to orkut instead, so myspace is not that popular nowadays...

O yes...:) hype, I'm just wondering, how come Friendster has such a large Asian community? Is it just coincidence or is there some other reason? For instance, some messageboards seem to attract lots of Asian people because the owner of the board happens to be a Chinese person (?nd yes, also because the board is a neat place, but I do think the name of the owner might have attracted them aswell a bit :) ) but I'm not sure what sort of connection there is between Friendster and Asia ^^; Btw, personally I find the layout of MySpace very hard to customize o__o and I'm not talking about those copy-paste codes which are used by everyone and his dog, but about your actual own creation, transparency, font, background, size of tables and such. But who knows..maybe I haven't tried hard enough yet... Also, just a random note, to girls especially: think before you expose yourself in a push-up bra on your MySpace profile. I personally don't mind boobs at all, but you make yourself such an easy prey to online predators =/ Even though your make your head not visible in your pictures and stuff like that, the location and school you mention, and the list of friends and *their* real names, who point in your direction, will make you sososo easy to find for anyone who has malicious intentions regarding you =/

Myspace is horrible. The options it has is bad in my opinion and there are many stories of violence. I do not like the whole idea of myspace and think it was a mistake. You could say I'm an anti-myspacer.

Well here is my opinion. Here is my myspace also Click Here.

Myspace is a messy site, but does it really matter? I don't care if it is messy. I have had no problems with it being messy. It doesn't make it any harder for me to use it. However, due to the fact they only use two servers it makes it ungodly slow and annoying. Because there are so many users and so many users are added everyday they always are doing maintenance which is a huge pain in the **bottom** when you go to send a message and it wont let you do it.

Myspace is great for meeting people though because there are so many people on the site. I just want to say i met my current girfriend on that site. We have been dating for 2 months and a day today. I also keep up with my friends on that site. It's also really neat when someone messages you that you haven't seen in years or even talk to for that matter. You pretty much look up anyone (Under about 20 years of age) and they are on there. My friends mom is even on there haha.

For are the blunders myspace has it has lots of great things on there also. It gives me time to waste, although i have had no time to waste until about today considering i worked and went to school with almost 20 credits. It gives people a place to keep up with friends and find old friends. For some people its even a place to meet new loved ones.

So how was that for a Myspace opinion. haha

Personally, I don't like Myspace very much because of the limited features that you can't have, where as you can have in Xisto. Its the same for xanga and all the other blogging websites that come into popularity. I have my own myspace, but I don't use it, even tho I have a pretty long list of friends who ask me to add them to their friends list. Right now, I'm thinking of myspace as a good use of advertisement. Because of all the visitors and quick spread of word, its useful for my filming organization to distribute and show our videos without sending out mass emails or messages. Also, myspace, which millions of users, having their own blogging place to tell about their life, that is basicly a diary, I think should not be allowed, because of the security risks and other personal infomation lost. "Everyone has one" is the saying everyone says in highschool, I just love the publicity thats going to be used for my site  By the way, Tom's pictures are pretty funny, he always has his back to us.
