  1. My favorite subject is engineering. It requires knowledge from a combination of other fields, including math, physics, and possibly chenmistry and biology. It teaches individuals to solve problems in the real world. It makes one smarter in that it helps one understand how things around you work.
  2. With so many people posting here, I wonder whether the majority suggest that they believe God will destroy the world or not. Do we need to be prepared for it or not to worry about it? If it will happen, when will it likely happen?
  3. My two cents. Americans are used to driving on multi-lane highways with some amount of traffic moving along while Canadians often drive on two-lane highways either alone or a lot of traffic in a single lane. Americans live in vinyl-siding homes or stucco homes while Canadians live in wood-siding homes with bear visitors at times.
  4. Well, that is a good question. It prompted me to check out a "definition" of science. It turns out that, in general, science is about "reliable knowledge".I don't think everything in science is absolutely reliable as the new stuff may not always be completely reliable. In other words, human beings strive to make science completely reliable. Are social sciences as reliable as natural sciences? Along this line, I think political science is a science.
  5. I like Ford GT90.I like Toyota Celica.I also like Hummer H2!
  6. I personally do not have strong opinions about the issue, which I have heard before. I think if you are very concerned about the potential problems, bring it up from time to time and debate with those who do not agree with you. Doing that will raise the awareness level of the issue. Over time, more and more people will participate and the pros and cons will become clearer. If it becomes apparent that actions are required, the issue will be dealt with.At this point, not enough is known to the public.
  7. I have never been to India. It has a long history of civilization. It has the second largest population. It has a large developing economy that has had a high growth rate for the last so many years. India was colonized by the British for a long time and most people speak English.
  8. That you love both of them is a fact unless it changes in the future. Since either would cry to see that you are with someone else, maybe you should try to not let the other one know or see that you are with the other one. It doesn't seem that you necessarily have to break up with either one, right?
  9. I think the correct answer is we don't really know whether it is harmful, but it doesn't appear to be harmful as far as we know at the present time. It is a drink that has been there for a long time. It contains caffeine, and so do coffee and tea. Coffee and tea have been there for a long, long time. My guess that is caffeine is not harmful to human body as long as a reasonably small amount of it is used. One can always augue otherwise, or one can always be concerned about it. Drinking water can be harmful also - maybe.
  10. Although scientists may not want to start a program to prove scientifically whether one race is more intelligent than another because it could be politically incorrect, I would not rule out the possibility that that statement is proved or disproved to be true at some unknown time in the future.I don't think it is racist. One of the earlier posts has explained what racism is.I also agree that intelligence is not everything one can offer. Everyone is different and has the potential to make contributions related not so much to intelligence.
  11. Time travel is not possible in that no one can go back in time to participate in or change events that have already happened in the past. In that sense, time machine is impossible. In theory, it is possible to see what has happened in the past if one can manage to catch up with the light emitted from a past event. The important point is it is possible to see what has happened in the past but not participate in a past event. In that sense, time machine is possible.Einstein's theory has fundamental flaws and will be proven wrong over time.
  12. The relationship between Israel and Palestine seems to be the most difficult to tackle. It seems to that they don't agree on anything. Just look at some of the posts here. There are ones who write that Israel poisoned Arafat; those are probably Palestinians. Then, there are ones who ask how you get to know that and who is the one that poisoned Arafat.Hope both nations will find a way to get over with those disagreements and make peace for their own people.
  13. I haven't gone through all the posts so far in this thread, but I have seen comments like "the most absurd" and "completely agree"-type. With so many replies, it probably covers every slice of the spectrum of possible opinions regarding the topic. This post can add to the series to make it more complete.Way to go ...
  14. I heard about a high school in the US with close to 4000 students. In a school of such a large student population, there are well-defined groups, I would say. Some of the schools are quite large; some are small. Because students are allowed to choose their own courses and there are quite a few classes for each of the main course/subject, they have lunch at different time periods during the day. That makes it difficult for them to gather as a whole group. That's why the groups may not appear to be so well-defined on the surface.
  15. Lack of unity of human beings is one.Human beings are easily influenced by others, by their surroundings, and by where and how they grew up... They have different experiences. They have different opinions. They use imperfect logic. They have difficulty making good decisions consistently. They cannot reach agreement to serve their own best interests on the majority of issues facing them.
  16. Thanks for sharing your impressions of Mumbai and the evolution of your feelings. I am sure the city represents dreams of lots and lots of people as it is such a huge one. As india's economy continues to grow rapidly, numerous people's dreams will become true.Wish everyone best of luck!
  17. No. There is only one universe by definition. Universe is all matter and space as a whole - if you search the internet for a definition. The question appears to really mean whether there are multiple (more than one) parts of the universe, one being the one earth is in or the one known to everyone today and any additional parts being those that are not yet known.
  18. Which smartphone app is the best for GPS navigation (driving only)? You may want to consider whether the software is free, whether data connection is required on the road, whether a lot of disk space is required to save the maps, how accurate the maps are, and so on.Navfree is completely free, but the open street maps it uses are not detailed enough to always take you to the right place.Google Map Navigation requires data connection. However, you can avoid or minimize using data connection on the road if you pre-download pieces of maps (20x20 square miles each) prior to your trip using WIFI.AndNav2 and Mapquest required data connection to me while Sygic is a paid service. What have you found and liked the most?
  19. My personal experience tells me that getting language exactly right is no easy task with Windows unless your choice of language is English. You typically start from "Regional and Language Options", but there is more than that. You will find out what I mean when you happen to access some websites programmed with old techniques. When you think you have solved problems related to language, it is likely that you haven't visited websites with old, old technologies yet.
  20. It appears that this or the majority of the problems happened about two years ago. According to some of the news articles, there were many attacks against Indian students in Australia while "racial" attacks are relatively few compared to the total number. They state that the vast majority of attacks were simply robberies or the like. So, what is the truth? Obviously, it is not correct to attack or kill people.
  21. I think it depends on the field/industry. I am not familiar with animation industry. So, I don't have a strong opinion. Generally speaking, I think if someone intends to get a master's degree, it is better for him/her to get into graduate school right after college. That way, he or she will start at a higher academic level and will view things at a higher level, which will help career advancement. Job choices are likely somewhat different with a master's degree vs. without. To me, these are groups of people that are somewhat different (or, the career paths are somewhat different):- college degree and then work- college degree, work, master's degree, and then work- college degree, master's degree, and then workI am talking about getting a master's degree in the same field as the college degree. If you want to get an MBA degree, getting some work experience after college degree prior to MBA is thought to be better.
  22. Someone wrote that he loves history and math. After reading his post, I got the sense that he really loves history while using math often. What if one really loves both history and math? I wonder how he/she should choose his/her field of study or combination of fields of study to make use of the passions in the best way.
  23. It is an interesting idea to use an end-to-end rope to send information over a long distance. Actually, if you only transfer information over a short distance, e.g., within a room, the rope can definitely transfer faster than the speed of light! So, theoretically you can transfer information faster than the speed of light with an end-to-end long rope.
  24. I haven't heard about the indigo race before. I had a wrong interpretation of topic of the post. The post itself can be considered innovative, I suppose. It makes readers wonder who they are or whether whether they belong to the indigo race. Is it really good or bad to belong to the indigo race?
  25. I bought an HP desktop computer with an LG LCD monitor four years ago. It came with original Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. Over the last few months, I have noticed some problems once in a while. Sometimes, the images displayed would be completely scrambled and then the screen become dark. I would then have to force the computer to shut down by pressing the power button for several seconds. Then, the monitor died and I had to buy a new one. But, not long afterwards, the computer died also; i.e., only the power would come on and the fans would turn but nothing else. When I opened the box and examined the inside of it, I found that a lot of dust had been collected in the box. The fan on top of the CPU had quite some amount of dust on it. When I looked through the fan from the top down, I could see some dust collected in the metal radiator sitting between the CPU and the fan. I got the sense that maybe the dust slowed down the cooling of the CPU and eventually let the CPU to overheat and die. It's only 4 year old. I wonder if I had removed the dust from inside the box maybe once a year, would that have prevented the premature death of the computer?
