  1. Some have touched on this, but I'd like to expound on the topic.I believe race only exists as a social construct. It is a fairly modern idea without an genetic basis. One of the first modern racial classification system was created by Francois Bernier in the 1700s. In it, he indentified and ranked certain races as superior and inferior.Biologically though, race does not exist. Human beings are one of the most genetically similar species in the world. We have more in common with each other than two houseflies that look completely identicial to each other. That's because the number of genes that determine our appearances make up just a very small portion of us. I'm of German descent, but I may be more genetically similar to an individual living in a mud hut in Nigeria, than another German man.Just look back at history to see how the definition of race has changed over the years. Italians, during the earlier parts of history, weren't considered "white" in America, but they are now. We're also seeing a movement towards labelling "non-Hispanic whites" as "white." The definition of race only changes because it's a social construct.
  2. As many have previously mentioned, 10 posts a day is unreasonable. This forum started to decline when "Xisto" was replaced with "Xisto." Unfortunately, people associate the latter part of the name, Sutra, with the Kama Sutra. Also, the forum, in my opinion, is a bit too clustered. There's too much going. For example, the bottom portion of the forum where it displays the "Related Topics" is completely unnecessary. It only serves to slow down the servers which seems to be a major problem I've experienced on my end of the line.
  3. Hey, dude. :D What's up?

  4. Darwinism or God? Evolution or Creationism? This has been a hot topic of debate since Charles Darwin's ideas and views were introduced. Fortunately, with the advancement of technology and a better understanding of science, scientists have been able to disprove Darwin's rudimentary positions and have been able to expand on Darwinism. I would like to first start off by stating that Darwinism is not evolution. Darwinism is a label attached by Creationists to make evolution seem dogmatic. Evolution has been studied for the past century and countless experiments have proven it to be a fact. What exactly is evolution? It states that the genetic structure of an organism is able to evolve to form a new organism. A Creationist would argue that it would be ludicrous and preposterous to even suggest that humans evolved from monkeys! However, that is not the case. That is not what evolution is about! Evolution is about adapting and evolving to the environment. For example, leopards in South America and Africa have subtle differences because when the South American continent split from Africa, the differences between the two continents caused these leopards to adapt to their environment! Consider the case of a human being. Our appendix is usually considered by many to be absolutely useless nowadays. Say a couple produce a child with a deformity -- the child is born without an appendix. And the child without an appendix spreads those genes. Eventually, in the future (millions of years?) humans will not have an appendix! That's what evolution is about! It's about a simple deformity that aids in the adaptation to the current environment. In fact, evolution does not conflict with the Bible at all! Therefore, you can believe in evolution and still be a Chrisitan. This is just one of many examples to prove that science and religion actually go hand-in-hand when understood to it's fullest extent. If we ever do fully comprehend science and religion (unlikely?), the war between science and religion will dissolve. Let's pray for that.
  5. Global Warming This topic is debatable. Some argue global warming is really not occuring while others disagree. The earth has undergone a series of climate changes throughout the years. There was the Ice age and then there was a time during the medieval period where the earth was relatively warmer than it usually is. Multiple studies have shown that there is no correlation between human impact and the environment. The earth might be undergoing a transitional phrase where it becomes warmer because of less magnetic activity sun spot cycle. Earth is running out of resources I agree with you there but we're starting to recycle and wil continue to do so. War in Iraq, and now in Georgia? The world has lived through WWI, WWII, etc. It is very unlikely that humans will be able to make such a big impact. Humans don't have the ability to destroy the world. Last point, the War in Iraq and in Georgia are relatively minute compared to many of the wars the world has gone through? Nuclear wars? Please... Education, Learning to be greedy or intellectual Education can only further human society and living standards. Humans become weak Believe it or not, humans are actually a lot more healthier than were their ancestors. Aliens, the real threat? No comment. How can we help? We can help by uplifting the low moral standards society has bestowed upon us when each person was born. PS: Let's recycle too.
  6. Aw, thank you all of you guys. I had a great time yesterday and I'm still getting presents today! It won't be long before I hit 30 so I have to enjoy these last few years.
  7. Thank you! I'll take you up on the peanut butter cookies offer!

  8. That is twisted! But it reminds me of what I did these few weeks. I usually leave out the slight though. :PThanks a lot Tiki!
  9. I haven't seen you in a while! :)

  10. I feel so welcomed. Thank you!

  11. How is this a fake cause? Live Earth is a venue of concerts formed all over the world dedicated for a "greener" earth. It doesn't matter who organized this event. It does not entitle you the right to declare this event as a "fake." Artists from all over the world are reciprocating back to society to help the world. If anyone is trying to help the world, their political decisions should not be a factor.
  12. Hello Mr. Matak.

  13. Go and teach those kids a lesson! :)

  14. At 14, you should still be growing. One valuable detail you left out was what gender you are. It will help us help you give some tips. Unfortunately, most of your height will be determined by your genes. But you could help reach your maximum genetic height by exercising and eating nutrional and healthy foods. There are rumors that basketball and swimming could help you grow taller; again, these are rumors and are not scientifically proven so you could try that. But again, take your vitamins (if you do not receive enough nutrition) and drink plenty of milk (calcium intake). These things will not make you taller, but will help you fulfill your maximum potential height. If you're female, you should look at your mother and blood relatives. You should be around that height; but you could be taller or shorter depending on which genes you received. If you're male, vice versa. But this is not always accurate so don't be discouraged if your parents are short.I recommend talking to your doctor if you're really concerned. There are such things as "growth hormones" but it is highly unrecommended for you to take them unless you are very short. It can cause diabetes and other side effects so it should be a last resort. When you're an adult and really unsatisfied with your height, you can receive limb lengthening surgery. It can help you gain up to around 6 more inches. But this is even more discouraged as it will be a very painful process which will put you in a wheel chair from 6 - 12 months. After the healing process, you will have a high chance of arthritis, etc. So, growth hormones and surgery should be out of your list. If you're really concerned you should talk to your pediatrician about this and I'm sure he/she will provide you with sufficient details on what you could do.
  15. I cast my vote to Saint Michael. His is greatly blend, etc while I think yours is a little artificial especially with the fiery stuff. Sorry, both were great though.
  16. I thought this was a well written research paper. I like your writing style - simple and "quick-to-the-point." In fact, in my later years, I have found this to be the best and most efficient way to write a paper. Although your paper was well written, it contains a few minor problems, and I hope this constructive criticism will help you write your final draft. One of the major errors you commited was that you put in more commas than necessary. You should re-read your research paper and delete those unnecessary commas. I'm just giving you suggestions and ideas. You don't have to necessarily take all my sentences as my sentences aren't all perfect either. This sentence is unclear. The starting sentence needs to be clear to the reader. I believe it could be written this way: Isaac Asimov has a great quote about computer technology. You have used the word "way" twice in one sentence which makes it sound repetitive. I think it would also be better if you seperate this into two different sentences. It could be changed into something like this: He is correct in more than one way. With sufficient computer knowledge, anyone could find out about your whole life without you even knowing they were on your computer. Re-write this sentence so that it is a bit more understandable. What do you mean: Lead a double of using the same computer technology for good reasons while thinking he can get away with it? Remember in high school when you learned the sentence "While walking into the room, the room was messy." It is incorrect because the room did not walk into the room. You made the same error here. It should be something like: Because computer laws have been improving, ......etc. Hiding themselves from the law has nothing to do with them catching themselves using chat-room clang on research papers. Explain or otherwise seperate into two sentences. Just make this simpler by saying: Some Americans have abused computer technology by using computers as a way to commit crimes such as computer hacking, cyber-stalking, and identity theft. Because of these horrible acts, these criminals should be combated with more resources. This is all the time I have left. I will continue later where I left off.
  17. Before you become popular, you should ask yourself: Why do you want to be popular? And there isn't much you can do to be popular but there are things that can help you become more "popular" in school. Many people perceive alcohol, drugs, and smoking as cool and raise your popularity, it actually won't; and it will also damage your health. The most important thing is how you walk. Never look down while walking; always walk with your back straigh with confidence -- in fact, thats the most important step to become popular. Be confident. Also, honestly, how can someone who dresses like he's in 80's be popular? Consider a good haircut, good jeans, and good pair of polo shirts/etc. Don't go overboard or it'll seem like you're "trying too hard". Also, you need to be clean: shave, shower daily, etc. Now that you've got that down, another important way to become popular is be involved in your school! There is nothing better than being involved in everything. More people will know you, hence you're "popular". But, again, even if you are popular in high school, this will not bring you success in later life. So, don't take these things to heart....Oh yeah, and don't ditch your friends even though they are "dorks". They are still your friends no matter what.
  18. Well, I have never wanted to be stereotyped and put into a "certain clique". But because of the way I dress and act, people tend to put me in the "prep" clique. I was in the Prep clique since high school...I don't hate all gothic/emo people...they just tend to dislike me for some reason just because of the way I dress and the fact that I am a "prep". Kind of stupid...That's what is wrong with society today. You can't dress in anyway you want...you'll be put into some kind of clique because of the way you act/dress...Well....I see how it is...lol
  19. China - a country that has been bullied for far too long. It has once been a nation of great freedom and national pride with many great inventions including gunpowder, compasses, fire arrows, chopsticks, paper, kites, wheelbarrow, etc. Surely, a country with such great inventions would not be so weak? Yet, they did become weak due to the rise of the communist party; it has restricted great inventors from inventing; great authors to write; great men to think. The western countries see communism as a horrible way to treat the citizens of the state; a horrible way make a country prosper. But currently, because of communism, China is now making its way to the top with the fastest growing economy in the world. How? Because of the low wages provided in this communist state, the governemnt has forced the citizens of China to work - even though they receive a low wage. It's common sense - everybody knows that you have to work to survive low wage or not. By doing this, the housing costs and standard of living is very low in China because the majority of the citizens receive a low wage. So even with such little cash, they can still afford valuable materials for less money. Since everything is cheaper in China, more countries will be more than happy to buy materials from China. Due to countries buying goods from China, the Chinese government is now richer and prosperous and is one of the world's leading manufacturers. I have been to China a few times now and I can draw this conclusion from the trips I have taken. China surely has been improving. You can even tell. In 2000, when I went to Beijing on a business trip, it was dirty and everything was very "country-like" for a city. But in 2006, on a recent trip, I have seen Beijing again -- except, it wasn't the Beijing I knew. This Beijing, I can say confidently, had massive buildings. It was more high-tech and cleaner than even the United States (I can safely say this). The citizens seemed happy. Many people were educated and could speak English fluently. I even discussed this with many citizens and they seemed pleased with the government. Even though China is still a communist state, it is not as "tight" as it was back then. The citizens have more freedom, they are allowed to talk to foreigners; shows aren't cancelled because they conflict government views. Let's take a look at the China right now. Currently, it claims Taiwan as a province of China while the Taiwanese have a conflicting view. Taiwan has been training/gathering their army and trying to get help from the Americans while China is having talks with them. China has no reason to attack them though. The US alone has been buying good from China exceeding $130 billion. The US alone is in a $202 billion debt to the Chinese. Why would China attack Taiwan and risk losing all the trade and money the US owns her? There isn't - that is a major reason why China wouldn't attack Taiwan. Other reasons include nuclear bombs. Both countries have a great military and contain nuclear bombs; with such a war, this could quite possibly lead to another World War. Currently, I see that China and the United States are not foes, but they aren't really allies...yet.The United States and China have many contradicting views. Some include human rights, communism, religion, etc. But many of these problems are being settled upon. Recently, many problems have been solved; in fact, China and the United States are working together to disarm North Korea of nuclear reactors - which, as of March 20, 2007, is successful. North Korea has agreed to disarm itself as long the USA unfreezes the bank account that North Korea has. This just shows what will happen if two great world powers work together; it creates peace and subdues conflict. It would really be great to see China and the United States work together to help ease the conflict in Africa and help restore the continent back. The question is: Is China a Friend or Foe of the United States of America? What is your view? Discuss.
  20. 4th comment. ;) (hands over a bigger trophy than before). :D
