thanks for checking my site, varunone. working fine on my end however. maybe some connection timeouts on your end? btw, PM would best suit these kind of messages, so as to keep topic threads, well within topic. just a reminder.

not entirely feasible at the moment since Xisto is using scripting (more specifically, the hosting credits script) which can turn haywire with other skins. hard to successfully port the mods to other skins since admins are pretty busy. anyhow, you'll get used with the current skin.

can be easily kept in memory (your brain, that is ), but if you need a quick reference guide for google search, here it is: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?rd=1 print it, bookmark it, or just plain memorize it. --- additional --- for advanced operators, you can use this: http://www.googleguide.com/advanced_operators_reference.html (this however is provided by a third party site, which is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Google. still useful though even if it's not official. )

you guys check out this site: http://crazyapplerumors.com/ some funny reactions of the mac community on the impending switch of apple to intel. let me quote my favorite reaction:

what "111.my1stdomain.com" is, is a subdomain and not precisely a domain. but if you host a top-level domain with Xisto (example: "mydomain.com", you can use that), you can create subdomains for that domain on your own later (like, "subdomain1.mydomain.com", "subdomain2.mydomain.com", etc. any subdomain name can be created, i just used subdomain1 and subdomain2 as examples.)

Better Use Of G-mail What more can we do with G-mail ?
serverph replied to varunone's topic in The Internet
well, gmail is supposed to be for emails anyway, the reason why there is "mail" in "gMAIL"... but i see your point. perhaps google web hosting is in the drawing board. but even if it says 2GB is allotted for each gmail user anyway, i think mail hosting with google is not strictly 2GB per se physically (or virtually, whatever )... gmail inboxes would be invariably flexible to accommodate up to how much email space each user needs, to a maximum of 2GB when needed.using gmail for web hosting is perhaps out of the question since user authentication is needed whenever emails/files are accessed within. as it is, gmail can be used for file storage with the understanding it is not public, and can be accessed only by user (or users) which is/are properly authenticated. skirting user authentication (and using gmail for hosting) will be difficult, if not improbable. -
how about a "Casefancasefancasefancasefancase..."??? don't know what it is? if you think it's a computer case made entirely out of cooling fans, then you're correct! extreme mod to cool off that smoldering PC of yours. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ just thought i'd add this link to this thread instead of creating a new thread. perhaps we can build a link directory of sorts for case mods we chance upon.

yeah... shutdown by google! good while it lasted though.... back to manual stitching then.

sometimes the screen view image in google maps may not be enough... sometimes a bigger google map image with a bigger coverage area with maximum zoom level view is required. doing screen captures of multiple maps viewed in google maps and merging them later in photoshop can do the trick. but isn't that too cumbersome? what to do? head on to gMerge: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ type in an address of the map you want to capture, set the size of the image output (choose from a variety of sizes), choose magnification leval (from 0-nearest to 14-farthest), submit query, then wait for the image to magically appear tiled in a matter of seconds! can't think of an address to type in? pick any from the latest findings at googlesightseeing... some weird map images appear when you choose from the dropdown menu available. (these are the types i want to make a wallpaper out of - the envy of anybody who would care take a peek at my desktop. )

for the geeks in you -> make your own custom DVR box just with off-the-shelf software and components: more versatile, all-purpose, with easy remote-control interface, even programmable through the internet, and most especially, NO monthly fees! http://makezine.com/2005/04/19/4th-annual-german-case-mo/ i think the tutorial from the site above is pretty straightforward even for non-geeks.

ever want to change your HUGE ever increasing gmail account into a virtual harddrive? think of all the things you could store on a harddrive that never stops getting larger! gmailharddrive.com is your #1 resource for making that possible! http://www.xmailharddrive.com/ great way to store files in your gmail account in a web-based format. instead of having to install something, you can access gmailharddrive from anywhere. read terms of use carefully before using the service: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ caveat: google does not endorse, maintain or support gmailharddrive.com. i would suggest you use a spare gmail account, and not your main/primary gmail account, if you want to first test out this service.

i think this would be the next best thing to having gills just to breathe underwater. if yoda would say it: "jedi trick this is not. heavy for me are scuba tanks to lug around." http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ part of the patent reads: now if they can invent something short of a cage which will make one impervious to the perils of shark attacks (do we have one already?), then maybe i will be more inclined to stay underwater for days. and yes, something for hypothermia also so i won't freeze to death. lolz! but i suppose this is a very good piece of news. it will open new doors for underwater exploration.

serverph replied to beeseven's topic in Web Hosting Support
beeseven (original author) reports that problem has been resolved, so i'm closing this thread. -
google unveils a new feature for us webmasters that will allow google to do better indexing of our sites --- and at a faster rate! we can now give google a sitemap of our sites via, what else but, GOOGLE SITEMAPS! http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you can stop complaining that your site gets indexed by google so sloooowwww, or not indexed at all... (at least that's the idea. ) add your first sitemap here: https://www.google.com%2Fwebmasters%2Ftools%2Fstats&followup=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fwebmasters%2Ftools%2Fstats

google has recently announced "THE SUMMER OF CODE", to wit: https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/2008/?csw=1 hopefully, some members of Xisto may be interested in participating in this endeavour. deadline for applications is set on June 14, so this gives you much time to think about this. but don't take too long! isn't this a worthwhile way to spend summer? and oh, did i mention there is a $4500 to be awarded for each successful project? and they also promise to get you a t-shirt along with the cash! just the t-shirt alone would be well worth it. heheheĆ¼ some answers to frequently-asked-questions here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ here's a flyer to help disseminate this info: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Computer Does Not Start Three beeps and turn of
serverph replied to mizako's topic in Hardware Workshop
the error beeps (or POST/power-on-self-test) can help diagnose the problem: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1223 http://ww17.hi-tech.net/zones/help-beep.html http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm hopefully, after erring hardware is identified, you can finally resolve the problem. -
Netscape Is Back? The return of Netscape browser
serverph replied to heavensounds's topic in Software
is this the netscape version of AOL? with the faulty "trust rating system" (which reports well-known adwares as "trustworthy")??? related article: Who Do You Trust? Not Netscape... https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20050531/1246247_F.shtml that article has some very valid points. so netscape should wisen up. -
how dumb can law enforcers be and issue a ticket for a chicken that crossed the road? or is it just some outdated state law which should nevertheless be enforced (even to a chicken!)? http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ good thing the defendant had a good lawyer, and the case has been dismissed along with the $54 fine.

every little bit of Xisto promotion goes a long way. the Xisto community as a whole is grateful to you dark god.

most of you are likely to adore a font from somewhere, and would want to know what it is for future use, but don't know what font to look for in the first place and where to start looking. here's a little tool site which can help you figure out a font (or at least find a suitable likeness of the font) when you see a font you like in some print or web publication. http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ how does it work? they have a database of font imageries, and you just have to upload an image of the font you want, sit back, and let the search process your image for matching font/s. beats the hell out of trawling the net for some obscure font.

here's an interesting read on the process a data recovery service goes through to get back data off a hard drive even if it won't power on. http://www.tomshardware.com/ quite expensive for the whole process, but when worse comes to worst, and very valuable data needs to be recovered, at least there's an option we can turn to. they say it best: (but i'd rather not take second chances, and backup my files regularly. )

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ aherm... what do you think? can this be the future of mcdonalds? and will you be compelled to stay at mcdonalds longer? (though i would suppose most of you stay long at mcdonalds already ). if you're near Oakbrook Center Mall in suburban Chicago, can you check this out and give us a feedback? it's still in pilot testing so not every mcdonald outlet has the blaze net yet.

a very good read on the browser many have come to love (sorry, it's FIREFOX, not IE. ): http://computer.howstuffworks.com/internet/basics/firefox.htm this explains, in easy-to-read-even-a-seven-year-old-can-understand way, the merits of firefox over bill gates' browser. take a look at some of the best features and extensions that exist today (do you know foxytunes!!!??? get it!!! how about firesomething? [just some running joke about firefox which you'll learn later. download firesomething extension here ] ). of course, a little bit of history (why "firefox"?). and most importantly, security. if you're reading this in IE, better read the article above. and join the league of firefoxers!
