  1. The ATI 9000 is even slower than the Radeon 8500, and that technology was state-of-the-art in 2001. The geForce 5700 is much faster than the Radeon 9000, so don't go for it. If I were you, I would suggest getting a geForce 6600. It's much more powerful, and the price is very reasonable. Shopping online is not safe. If I were you, I would go to a store and pay for it with money.
  2. Personally I have never tried to overclock any of my CPUs before, but I have overclocked my old geForce 2 MX 400 64 MB video card before to the point of visual corruption. Once things started to mess up on the monitor, I lowered the clock speed a little. There was a moderate increase in the FPS I got, but nothing special. The video card never came with a fan attached to it, only a heatsing. So before overclocking it I made sure to customise it a bit and I added a small fan to it for safety.
  3. You don't actually get a virus on your CPU, you get it on your hard drive, and in very rare cases on your BIOS. I've had the blaster worm on my hard drive when I was doing a lab assignment at my old college, so I had to get something to delete it. I also had a small virus on my old computer that caused all the windows on my desktop to close any time I typed the word "virus", or tried to do a search on the Internet called "virus". It was more annoying than anything. Recently I got an e-mail with a .zip file attached. Inside the file was an .exe file. As most geeks know, .exe files can easily contain a virus. This one was scanned, and it contained a trojan. lol Gotta love viruses and the people trying to make your life difficult.
  4. Hey arcanistherogue, You are not the only one. My control panel is not working either. It takes me to a blank screen. It sort of works, but doesn't. This is the first time it happened to me, and I was a little concerned until I fount out I wasn't the only one having this problem. Hopefuly it's up again soon.
  5. Four of my favoite games are Kights of the Old Republic (the first and the second one are excellent), Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Great games, but the one with the best story of all was Knights of the Old Republic.
  6. I think Warcraft III would be the best choice. I've never played it before, but the graphics look cool, and I've heard good things about it. So yeah, that's my choice.
  7. One of the imporvements I've seen in the Windows XP Media Center edition OS is the ability to install an illegal card to get over 900 T.V. chennels on your computer.
  8. I use a USB device that I plug into my computer. It holds enough music for my ears. Nothing fany.
  9. Well, Shell is a gas station, yes. lolThe Shell of a Linux OS is what makes it run. I believe it is the start up that executes many small programs, in order to provide support to the hardware components, so that they may all run together.
  10. I think this is very similar to what people are doing these days with medication, steroids, viruses, penicilan, and other treatments. Instad of liquids and organic material being put into people's bodies, it will soon be hardware and metal. Is this so similar to what we are currently doing to ourselves? It certainly seems more permanent, but when the pros work out more of the cons to these new technologies in the future, I suspect it would be hard to resist. As this new technology becomes more tested, certified, and approved for humans, then I believe this will be the first stage of humans becoming cyborgs. People will start to "cheat" nature by becoming stronger, faster, more intelligent, physically improved. There will be many bennefits to this, but at a cost.Imagine that far into the future, this technology will so be so wide used, that hackers will start to install viruses into the technology that people have in their bodies. That would be scarry.
  11. Personally I enjoy Kaluah (sorry for my spelling), and chocolate milk. Together it's very rich, creamy and tasty.
  12. This is one of the classical stories where I apply the idea of the "key" and the "cause". In this situation, the copyright technically did not kill the person. It was the lack of drugs that killed him. In this case, the KEY was the copyright, but the CAUSE was the lack of available drugs for him.
  13. Any time your computer is left on for a long period of time, and as long as it's plugged into the Internet, there is always a chance for a hacker to exploit it. It doesn't necessarily matter how much security or firewalls you add, all computers are vulnerable to a certain extent. No computer is ever 100% completely safe, and that's my point. Turning it off when you are gone for a period of time would be a good idea, and it would save a lot of power and money.
  14. If your budget is limited, I would consider NOT getting the GeForce 7800 GTX. That's so new, it's not even out yet. Whe it does come out, it will be a top-of-the-line model. So you're talking about $600 US. Now, if you're not a really hard-core, serious gamer who keeps up with bleeding edge software and hardware, I would suggest a GeForce 6600. Only about 1% of society actually ever buys the very best video card. And when you do, the value of it is going to drop more quickly than a model that is a little older and slower. Here's a nice little article for you to read: http://www.geek.com/date/2005/6/
  15. I agree with the post above. The fans cooling the CPU are more noisy, but not the CPU. CPUs do not make noise. Generally speaking, yes, AMD fans are more noisy than Intel's.
  16. They may be cheap now, and yes that is a great price. Soon you won't even be able to buy a CRT any longer because LCD monitors will become standard completely. I remember reading an article long ago that said LCD will become standard in the year 2003. Well here it is and they're still around. They're a good alternative, but they come with pros and cons.Pros to CRTs:- Older technology, but greatly improved over the years- Higher resolution- Higher FPS (frames per second)- Smaller pixels- More reliable- Longer life- Cheaper priceCons to CRTs:- Uses more power- Big and bulkyPros to LCDs:- Smaller, and good for transportation- Use between 60% - 80% less electricity than a CRTCons to LCDs:- More expensive- Lower resolution- Less picture quality- Less FPS- Larger pixels- Less reliable (you must have at least 5% of your pixels burnt out for the warranty to allow an exchange)- Shorter life, and plasma ones too - shorter lifeThere may be more pos and cons to both, but I didn't bother writing them down.
  17. Is this related to the Windows XP 64-bit exition, or a server-side only OS?
  18. I have two USB sticks. They are made by Crusial, and are called Flash Voyager. The sizes are both 1GB (1000 MB). They're great to have - reliable, fast, bigger and cheaper that floppies, and with a 10 year warranty, why not? 19 MB/s read, and 13 MB/s write. It's one of the fastest USB 2.0 devices out there, but NOT THE fastest.
  19. If you're still having problems, you can either buy a new one for $40, or simply try getting a new driver. Also be sure your burner is getting enough cool air on it, otherwise, like all hardware, you may have problems with it.
  20. I have to agree with you there, Leon. I own KotOR as well, and it is simply the best game I have ever played. The story line, characters, maps, and basically the game is fantastic. Do you own KotOR2?
  21. In my opinion the best game ever is Knights of the Old Republic. The first one was simply incredible, I loved it! I bought the KotOR 2, but have not played it yet.
  22. I once lost my e-mail account before. I was playing an online Yahoo game. Someone envited me to play a game with them, so they gave me a link that was NOT yahoo, but it looked exactly like a yahoo login directory. So (foolish me), I attempted to sign in, and it took me to a page on the REAL yahoo to choose from. I was not logged in anyhow. The person used my account to simply clean out my score and apply their points to their own. It was such a low attempt, and I was very dissapointed. My main concern was to gain my login back, and change my password. IMPORTANT PART: Ever since then, I have been clicking on the "secure" encrypted login to be sure. The one I was using, had an encrypted option, but when I clicked it, it didn't work. *HINT* *HINt*
  23. I updated all my forums the first 15 minutes it came out. I just happened to be on. Since it fixes a critical secruity highlighting issue, it would be best that all users update as soon as possible. It seems stable enough, and I have had no problems with my forums... yet.
  24. No, I don't think Religion should be updated. It is bad enough to have it in society as it is. Religion should also be excluded from the Law as well.
  25. My favorite drink is fruit juice, simply because I have a sweet-tooth. I also enjoy milk and iced-tea.I try to stay away from pop.
