  1. Just by what Linux is every installation just seems the same so you need not bother as in the case of windows.
  2. Linux with so many variants do not kill your system as Vista does. Due to graphic intensive requirements of Vista you tend to run out of memory in Vista, on the other hand the same ammount of detail or features are available in Linux flavours at less graphic memory requirements. Linux kernel is based on concept which separates program and essential OS portion, but in Vista you must run the loads of default apps simultaneously or else the Vista won't work. Just a decade ago, Linux was scary as you will have to configure and even run applications from a non GUI environment. Installing a program was a nightmare for the novice, but not now. There are the GUI of Genome and KDE with loads of applications and each one is growing continuously. Installation of Linux to installing its application has become a breeze. Even the vast array of GNU public applications has been expanding enormously. Offcourse MS Office is a product that one finds at home when working with documents or spreadsheets, but just compare to the features that you get for products like OpenOffice and that too for free. The support for almost all International languages in OpenOffice is a great feature that MS Office is yet to master and that too will cost you much for that as well. All the native files of OpenOffice are platform independent which makes it easy for you to use the document in a Mac or a Windows OS seamlessly. The ability to open and work on MS Office native formats in Linux is an added boost to the feature list of Open Source products like OpenOffice. Linux is developed by people all arround the world as compared to a limited talent pool hired by Microsoft. Linux thus has a variety of people using and testing the applications and products and as a result of which the applications are robust and stable and does not need frequent patches and updates as a WinOS product needs. Since there are people all arround the world working together to improve a product there are less chances of loopholes and hence the concept of malicious use and infection is minimal. This is thus true that there are almost no virus in the Linux environment and you do not ned to bother about you Operating system or application safety as it is already taken care of and so no virus is ever successful. Also the file type in Vista is understood by the extension but in the case of Linux it is the content or MIME type that decides the file type, changing a file name or changing its extension is meaningless, but in case of Vista a file can be completely change its behaviour just by changing the file extension. Its horrible as an executable file .exe can be renamed as a .doc and still behave as a document file misinterpreting the actual content and purpose. As for the Aero theme of Windows Vista and Windows 7, they are excellent but then in Linux you already have them since long. And yes you have all the comparable programs that you use in Vista available in the Linux distributions and most ofcourse are free. However there may be nostalgia that a product is better in Windows Vista but that is the way you use the OS and are accustomed to. So there are more secure and better apps and tools in Linux than that in Vista even after paying enough. But then one area that Windows will always lead is the gaming range available. Since Linux was developed keeping in mind the security and robustness of the system so not much is done about the Games in Linux. In case of the Windows the development revolved on user friendliness and hence more home user and games available. There is no reason why we should stick with Windows but then more is happening in the Windows worlds than the Linux world that comes to light.
  3. Most sites are scam as they cannot pay in tunes to what they promise, but then there are some where you get paid for a small amount daily and you actually get paid for being in the site regularly. So try your luck.
  4. Mine was a simple one and I wanted to grab some Brownie and some mast chicken and so I landed in the KFC of my city. I had a Brownie Sunday and 7 piece of Hot Wings. Thats for the eating part. For clothings I got a Green long cardigan and a sizzling starry belt. As for my legs I bought a leggings and a pair of formal pants. I also got a pair of rechargeable batteries for my camera. Well that was all that I could make for myself. My father however got me a surprise and said that I will be only getting it on the New Year and that is a Casio large synthesizer - I am dying to get my hands on it. My father said this is for my 2010 collection and so I cannot have it now. So sad. I agreed to wait coz I know my father and his feelings.
  5. No discussion , no arguments. Its the GTA San Andreas that is the Best. No one can doubt about that.I have pled both the full licenced DVD version as well as the modded version and every time I play it seems that there was something that I did not complete or missed out on the previous occasions. Though the story in Vice city was much better I think, its the San Andreas which is on the top.More to mention the GTA IV must be gutted because of the resource heavy design. Who on earth will invest a hefty ammount on your graphics card as well as your processor for GTA which is even moving frame by frame at the best machines available. I had my friend invest $200 to upgrade his pc to play GTA IV only to find that there are enough frame stops and jitters every now and then that you just dont know how to duck and when to jump as you always lag in time due to frame slow rate.
  6. Though Office 2010 from Microsoft has come up with various enhancements, I have a problem accepting the requirements that Office 2010 is showing for use. In addition to that the price being too much for a program whose competitors are almost at par as far as the features is concerned makes me feel sorry for Office 2010. Going by the various applications that we have in the market that is compatible with Office 2010 standards, there is little doubt that Office from Microsoft will loose its grounds slowly and steadily. There are reports that Office is now going to be and Online program like the Google systems are and will feature a lot of advanced tools and features in the online storage system called SkyDrive. In the SkyDrive you can store your word file spreadsheets or your presentation the same manner as Google Docs work. The difference however will be the way you use the features. Microsoft is trying to have a proprietary system and not an open source like Google has. So be ready for your files to be handled online even if you do not have the Office 2010 installed, all you will need is a password for SkyDriv to use Office 2010 and a licence that is attached with your email ID.
  7. The latest that I can thin of is the controversy over the climate change effects and treaty that are being followed by the nations worldwide and how US is forced to oblige. At the conference in Copenhgen, the participants of the UNFCCC meet for the last time on government level before the climate agreement need to be renewed. This is because of the fact that the so called Kyoto Protocol is going to cease in 2012. But there are more urgent needs than that and addressed to now. A total of 8000 people from about 170 countries participated in that Copenhgen Protocol and US was one of the leaders. But with the global threat to climate change due to vast industrialization in the US, there is a great demand from the world community on the US to reduce emissions and have stricter rules.
  8. Presently he is not bothered with kids, if we wants them or not. And anyways if there be kids of them the kids will be like their mother. So another weird peice. And there is a condition that I think is worth noting, there will be no gestation period so this Japanese muse can have as many kittens as he likes without any labour. Wow.
  9. The only thing htat I understood is Namaste Salaam. What about the reset. Wow about introducing yourself saying "Hello Hello Hello ........... " until your mouth foams. Wooosh. Everyone understands that. Anyways welcome to Xisto.
  10. Data recovery is not limited to just pictures or bmps, but the disk or partition for that matter.Just last week I was installing my old 40GB hard disk as a master and existing 160GB hard disk as a slave. I had Windows 7 installed in the 160GB and wanted to install a fresh copy of Windows XP in the 40GB. The installation went fine and Internet connection as well as Anti-virus program was perfectly working, when all of a sudden a message popped up saying my Internet Explorer needs to shut down due to error. My pc went in a busy state and about a minute later Dr Watson showed an error and closed. Upon repeated restarts the same problem recurred again and again. Now with no option left I decided to reinstall and while installing again, the installation process declared that the 160GB hard disk has partition unrecognized in XP. So I stopped the installation and connected single 160GB hard disk as primary. But my disk won't boot.I realized the problem and booted from floppy dive only to find that my 160 GB hard disk partition got somehow deleted.I was really disappointed as all my pictures were in the 160 GB drive and I was at a loss.Finding no hope the next day I searched for any solution on the net in my college computer lab. One name that came accross was Acronis - Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0.2239 - and that was to my rescue. It had a feature to search for and undelete the deleted partition. I immidiately got the software and got a licence for it. After downloading I somehow managed to install a copy by fresh installing Wndows XP again but the problem of Explorer error remained. In that environment where windows explored did not work I took help of command prompt to copy my downloaded file on the desktop and install Acronis from there. After installation and running the recover partition program, two out of three partition were recovered and one partition was in error. I however was able to retreive my photos and copied them to my pen drive using the dos xcopy command, as the windows explorer would crash and make the computer busy.Although I was able to retreive my photos two of my large videos were unrecognizeable and was not recovered at all.I have now Windows 7 installed in the 160GB hard disk and 20-30% of my files recovered. Acronis did save my day.
  11. I think Avatar is a movie that came a bit late and should have been in the theates a couple of years ago. In the time of Titanic the reality that way portrayed was missing in the latest from James Cameron. I can figure out that I am playing the video game only difference being that there are more cinematography and video scenes than the amount that can be played. The involvement was not up to the mark. I find that the movie willl get a 2and half out of 5. There can be a hell lot of improvements possible.
  12. The cases of fraud has actually come down over the years due to system problem but as more people come in the internet more people take a chance to earn money end get scammed. So the actual % remains lower the no of victims is on the rise and the amount being moved is exponentially increasing.
  13. There has been lots of talks about Nigeria posting too many scam mails. In 2003 Nigerian money, adult websites was at No. 3, on the top 10 scams. Nigerian money - the scammers that just won't let live - follows auctions and general shopping complaints.Looking at the content of the scam mails, if you are one of the lucky few to have somehow missed to receive such ones, it usually comes in the form of a email plea for help, often from a Nigerian slave or inmate who is trying to transfer money out of the country. The latest tactic for luring victims, as reported is to make the e-mail look like it was sent from a real existing bank. Earlier, these scammers also have used fake phishing websites to bait people. In exchange for the use of their bank account, the recipient is told they'll receive a percentage of the funds being moved. Unfortunately, about 10% of all recipients reply back and seek further clarification with the authors and about one percent of those respondents become seriously involved, and become victim of fraud. The victim is then asked to transfer money as a token of unexpected fees or others until the victim refuses to pay further. By that time enough is taken away.
  14. Well it was so good that you received $24 in return to your $12 that was taken. It is ammazing that you received money that too with the jackpot of double your money. I had only losses so far as far as the online money making scheme is concerned. I never got the benefit at all. I have invested from my credit card and all that I got back was the bills of my credit card and the site I invested turned out to be a scam. All that I can say is do not invest in what you do not know, as you can be scammed by the unknown easily.
  15. Things are getting worse day by day as the weather and the environment changes. We at the receiving end of the industrialization are facing the mutation massacre. There will be more such killer diseases and humans victimized whether they have good immunity or not.
  16. The reason I used rapidshare was the upload size of a single file. Soon they reduced to 100MB. At the same time other file sharing systems started to come up and provide better service. Also for multiple file downloads I startrd to upload to diferent file sharing sites. The no of rapidshare points collected to be used for redemption soon became too much slow to handle. And then the no of days upto which the files can be kept without download being reduced is a tragic demise of rapidshare for me.Finally to have unavailable slots is the final nail in the coffin. I remember not using megashare as I was not getting any slots for Asia. Too bad. For me rapidshare is unable to keep up with the pace of its growth and hence the frustration being created. So my last rites for such good service that rapidshare once provided.
  17. The answer to your question is already in http://forums.xisto.com/topic/3555-do-you-believe-in-ghosts/. However the question once raised will have its answer from the belief whether there is God. We know that every coin has two sides so does good and evil. If God has angels so does Satan have ghosts. So be prepared to believe in ghosts if you believe in God.
  18. 19. You have already started your first step of posting a valid post. Now you need to post or better reply to currents posts with some very good informative matter and increase your credit points called myCent. Once you are more than 200 points, you get about $2. To get my cents you need to register in the Xistro billing system with the same email id as you did for Xisto. Once registered in xistro billing you will need to ask for a plan that suits you, (ofcourse you need to have enough funds fr that particular plan). Once you get approved , normally taking about 2-3 days time you are ready with a domain working for you. Now you will have to pay for the domain space you registered with every billing , mostly monthly cycle with meCent $ you accumulated by posting good quality posts or directly paying using paypal or credit card. Thats all that you need to do. For full details you visit this link : http://forums.xisto.com/topic/61751-free-web-hosting-free-trap17asta-subdomain-hosting-procedure-how-to-order-yournametrap17com-or-yournameastahostcom/ . And welcome to Xisto and wish you good luck.
  20. The site is wonderful and I believe for all new photographers it will be a good starting ground . But since it is from other site I will not paste something here but will definitely keep the pages , some of them of course, for later reference and study. Thanks anyways for the help.
  21. I am new with digital photography and have an average digital camera with 7 mega pic-cells. I have done some micro photos of which the photo of the mosquito is the best at that resolution. The full picture of the mosquito at 7 MP resolution. Apart from that I have little knowledge. If you are using a camera with the additional lens mountable the go through the manual of the lens or better still go to the website of the camera maker and look for the accessories supported and get details of the lens, how it can be used for micro photography.
  22. I do not want to edit my registry myself unless Microsoft does that for me. Also I don't want to disable services as i am not the administrator. All I need is patches from Microsoft that will give freedom from it.When the error message pops up, if i close the message then the internet connection is immediately gone. If the message is not closed but kept aside the internet connection as well as the computer works fine. Irrespective of whether it is a Ethernet connection or USB connection the error message would pop up.
  23. There are quite a lot of reference on vlookup and hlookup but I am yet to be able to get the answer right.I am using excel 2007 and have not been able to do it so far.The max value is comming correct but the column name does not seem to come right. It gave me null error. Why?
  24. Going with the market trend and the number of downloads that take place every where, Skype is by far the best. It is more user friendly and has features of its own. There are instances of security breach in MSN, fewer in skype. There are other programs as well but skype leads due to simplicity and features.
  25. I have seen the great players of poker poke their bank account untill all the money drains out. And yes no sites that are advertising free money will end up citing terms and conditions that will make you signup some other site and as a token make some payment and play. Most often you will loose as all these poker games are computer driven. After you register and pay the so called other sites you are allowed to play the bonus games and in most cases you win untill you are close to the payout amount but you soon start to loose the game fast enough. I have seen that small bids you win and large bids you loose. And all the small wins have 50% win chance. So you never get to the payout and so close to it. The result is that you are asked to invest more and hope that you will be able to go for the payout as you think that a lot of your( so called ) money is there for grab. In situations that are rare you get paid but in all cases you suddenly loose all your money as a rush of blood and frustration.Stay clear and keep your mind out of these as you do not want to loose your money.
