Since Trap17 Is Being Upgrade I Suggest Some Forum Changes
Nabb replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Web Hosting Support
You could alternatively use the My Assistant link, if for some reason you felt like not leaving the page to view new posts. And to make it a lot better, here is a tasty link you can bookmark (and by link, I mean small script of javascript) that will popup the new posts and scroll it to where your window is. Bookmark it if you like (remove the space between java and script - the forums automatically insert it (possibly to prevent xss or something)). java script:buddy_pop();xml_myassistant_init("posts");document.getElementById('get-myassistant').style.top=(389+document.body.scrollTop)+"px";void 0 edit) I LOVE THIS SCRIPT .edit) Okay, before the random br tag insertion is fixed, here is a quick fix: java script:function a(z){z.value=z.value.replace(/\[\/br\]/g,'\n').replace(/\[br\]/g,'')}if(y=document.getElementById('ed-0_textarea')){a(y)}w=document.getElementsByTagName("TEXTAREA");for(i=0;i<w.length;i++){if(w[i].name=="Post")a(w[i])}void 0 Remove the space between java and script and bookmark it - then click on the bookmark when you are editing text to change the br's into \n's. Note: All the variables are one letter long, so there could potentially be collisions with variables used by the board - there shouldn't be though. ..edit) Fixed extra lines glitch. -
I used to use xfire, but I haven't installed it on this computer (so my stats are about 3 months out of date!) Looking at the website, I've had 1230 hours of CS1.6, and 73 hours of WC3 (this should be a lot more by now though!)I found it quite useful.. for cheating in CS. On my old computer, which was fairly slow (comparatively), xfire was a much better option than Steam chat due to the up to 5 second lag when someone started talking to me (usually something like 'behind you!' - not really useful if I have to wait 5 seconds to do anything about it).

As for the answers.com popup on double-clicks, I don't find this a problem because I don't double-click much (single words are easy to retype so I don't double-click to highlight - triple clicking to grab a paragraph I might do)! On top of that, it only seems to be working on some words - and I couldn't get it anywhere on SM's post! Is this a Chrome thing or is it just that SM has an anti-answers.com aura?I don't find the ContentLink advertising obtrusive, but it is somewhat annoying when it makes the words harder to read (pink!?) - can we have something in place to stop such un-co-ordinated colours happening? It's annoying to need to either highlight or tilt down my laptop monitor to read some words.Tagging should be a user thing, it would be easier if each user went and tagged their own tutorials than if the moderators went around to every single tutorial.@xpress - If it's a dynamic IP causing this (i.e. being logged out and shoutbox saying you don't have permission (I'd assume a session ID validation error)), then that's probably something the admins should work a fix to, as I'm sure you aren't the only one on a dynamic IP. Such a fix would probably be allowing you to disable your session ID being locked to your IP address, which I've seen on other websites before, but it may be a little hard to implement if IPB has this automatically done (not that I would know, ask OpaQue!) -
A bot to bypass this could easily be made, seeing as you have the answer in the source. You would probably have the same level of security if the question was text.

But seeing as we input a colour for our links, you should probably be able to spot your links via the colour! Maybe we shouldn't be able to pick the colour? =| edit) hey! you sneakily changed the percentages! Also a question: Since not all the users here are going to use this (for example all the users that haven't been around for years but still have posts in old threads), if they are the last poster or topic starter, does the ad displayed belong to the site admins? And in the case of a 'random poster', does it pick a random poster with an account for the advertisements, or would it pick an arbitrary poster and have the ad linked to the administrator if they do not have a specified publisher ID?
-
Oh I didn't pick up on that which xpress quoted - could we get some clarification on that? My interpretation is that it means user-linked ads are only for the forum threads, and not for other pages such as the home page. Is this correct? (PS: this post is me xpressing what I'm thinking and is not so I can be last poster )

AAAAAHHHHHH[..]HHHH This is going to take some time to get used to. As with the Companion Cube guy, I'm curious as to what happened to the shoutbox - was it moved or removed? Hopefully it returns (I liked it up the top!). Also the links that used to be at the bottom of the page for newest posts and topics, I know that there is a replacement for newest posts via theMy Assistant link (on the top-right of the page, near My Controls), but hopefully there will be a way to spot the new topics. (I'm also used to this being readily accessible!) I understand that this is a transitional phase, and probably shouldn't be asking these things for some days until it's complete, but I like the old Open Discussion! (the features mentioned above primarily, the theme on this looks quite nice!)

Google Chrome The new web browser from google
Nabb replied to encryptedwrath's topic in The Internet
Nope, the EULA that was in Chrome upon released has since been amended. The original EULA was basically a copy of those in the other Google products, and it was quickly remedied after users complained about it. -
I haven't had that happen, but when Adobe Flash Player gives you a message about it being slow, it generally means that you have either an infinite loop or a piece of code that takes ages to execute (like me trying to generate a 300x300x30 maze ). I think it's at 15 seconds of executing code when the error warning is given. I just tested (with the same maze game thing from ages ago ;p), and Chrome isn't crashing when I terminate the script. If your computer is somewhat decent, then the .swf probably needs to be done differently to avoid this warning - 15 seconds of browser lockdown is a bit much, don't you think? (of course in Chrome it's a separate process so it isn't really a lockdown!) Since I don't have your script, I can't tell you what is going wrong (heck, I probably couldn't anyways), but I'm guessing that maybe you're trying to load too much data off the server at once.

The upcoming Great Firewall of Australia is going to be extremely annoying, not only for the delay being created, but also for other reasons such as false positives and cost. 30% alone is a lot for users on dial-up, but an 80% slow will be a huge impact on everyone. One in twelve false positives is a huge amount, and a lot of websites will lose out on potential traffic (even though Australia isn't that large population-wise) because of this. It is also likely to be bypassable, through proxy websites, or a script to 'translate' blocked webpages if the testing done is dynamic. I'm sure most Australians would remember that a student cracked the last filters the Australian Government tried in half an hour (but surely it doesn't take half an hour to find a proxy), I don't expect this filter to be much better. And for people who have their favourite websites as a false positive, a proxy service is going to increase the lag on accessing the webpage even more. The milions of dollars in the project will in the end be passed on to consumers, and smaller ISPs may be affected badly by the associated costs. On top of all that, the government could filter websites for political purposes, as the description was put as 'prohibited content [..] as well as filtering of other unwanted content'. There is an online petition available to be signed here for Australians who don't want the feed (and being GetUp!, it could actually have an effect!). There's also a counter on the right with stick-figures that you can make do a mexican wave

Wow, I never knew that you could have custom brush/eraser/line sizes/thicknesses. I also never knew about the transparency feature on selected regions (the two boxes that appear when you use the selection tools). And on top of that, I didn't know the trick with the eraser! I've many times been annoyed with having to manually click the paint bucket on so many small sections (for example a diagonal line like in the example). The grid too looks like it could come in handy, but when you've had it scaled to that size it's pretty easy to see where the pixel boundaries are. It's true, I'm not that knowledgeable in the art of MS Paint :)I just discovered another trick, that's probably somewhere on google. You can actually have three colours stored, aside from left click and right click, if you hold ctrl and choose a colour, it will be a third colour you can use (which is placed by again holding ctrl).

Displaying Html In Flash Using ActionScript
Nabb replied to BlueInkAlchemist's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Using javascript, it's something like document.documentElement.innerHTML=document.getElementById('lolz').innerHTML (could be wrong though)I'm not sure how you'd integrate that into Flash though..But if you have the source as a string, can't you use indexOf and substr to get that? Or something... -
Well, if you're running something like BOINC, then the energy can be used for something more useful (one or more of the many available distributed computing projects), making 1) and 2) possibly void. I do like hibernating though, it helps me continue doing whatever I was doing the night before without needing to re-open the programs I was using! I do switch off my monitors (i.e. lower the laptop lid and turn off the external) when I'm going to have a short break, and standby works reasonably well for somewhat longer pauses. If leaving a computer on overnight for other purposes (downloading a large file, burning a dvd (with a slow burner!)), most programs for these things have the option to shutdown your computer once the operation is finished, so that should be an option you're using (and if you can't have your computer turn off when a download finished, stop using the built-in IE downloader!)

Hehe, Super Mario World was great. As was Yoshi's Island. What I loved most about SMW was the length of it, and the amount of secrets to be found.I still have my SNES, maybe I should go play some more SMW - I think I may have beaten all the secret levels though (including the ones from star world, like tubular and stuff!)

Damnit alex, don't be so sneaky!(the answer is available in the previous piece of JS which I edited! Test it yourself ;p)

What are the rules? My javascript (I was doing a little javascript hacking (bookmarklets OWN) earlier so might as well use it) didn't churn out anything that worked. I took rules of the original post.. for(poc=1;poc<13;poc++){for(ptc=poc+1;ptc<14;ptc++){for(moc=0;moc<13;moc++){if((moc!=poc)&&(moc!=ptc)){for(mtc=moc+1;mtc<14;mtc++){if((mtc!=poc)&&(mtc!=ptc)){st="20719652661508"if(mtc>ptc){st=st.substring(0,mtc)+'-'+st.substring(mtc)if(moc>ptc){st=st.substring(0,moc)+'-'+st.substring(moc)st=st.substring(0,ptc)+'+'+st.substring(ptc)st=st.substring(0,poc)+'+'+st.substring(poc)}else{st=st.substring(0,ptc)+'+'+st.substring(ptc)if(moc>poc){st=st.substring(0,moc)+'-'+st.substring(moc)st=st.substring(0,poc)+'+'+st.substring(poc)}else{st=st.substring(0,poc)+'+'+st.substring(poc)st=st.substring(0,moc)+'-'+st.substring(moc)}}}else{st=st.substring(0,ptc)+'+'+st.substring(ptc)if(mtc>poc){st=st.substring(0,mtc)+'-'+st.substring(mtc)if(moc>poc){st=st.substring(0,moc)+'-'+st.substring(moc)st=st.substring(0,poc)+'+'+st.substring(poc)}else{st=st.substring(0,poc)+'+'+st.substring(poc)st=st.substring(0,moc)+'-'+st.substring(moc)}}else{st=st.substring(0,poc)+'+'+st.substring(poc)st=st.substring(0,mtc)+'-'+st.substring(mtc)st=st.substring(0,moc)+'-'+st.substring(moc)}}st=st.replace('66','66==');st=st.replace('6+6','6+6==');st=st.replace('6-6','6-6==');//document.write(st+" = "+eval(st)+"<br>")//eval(st) never equals 1508 :(if(eval(st)){document.write(st+"<br>")}}}}}}} edit) and yes I know hardcoding things like this is bad D:.. I just typed 'first minus' and stuff and did a bunch of replace alls at the end

Google Chrome Bata You got to love Google
Nabb replied to Echo_of_thunder's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That's how I'm interpreting it. Although everyone already knows the Google name. I'm using Chrome, I've used Firefox in the past but there weren't any add-ons that prevented me from switching over (for example I don't have anything against ads) - if I feel the need to use Tamper Data, I'll simply switch over to firefox for whatever it is I'm doing. There are a few features that I like, such at the ability to arbitrarily resize textboxes. The url bar (omnibar) for firefox is slightly better in my opinion, and less biased towards the most visited websites. However I do like the homepage of Chrome (because I'm too lazy to make a similar one!) -
Also keep in mind that Fantastico usually has semi-outdated versions, which means potential security vulnerabilities (probably things that are easily locatable on websites that list these types of things). For example the current Fantastico version of Joomla is 1.5, several versions old and a quick google turns up results showing at least one SQL injection exploit. So it's always important to check the version and simply download and ftp the newest if Fantastico is a little updated

Cpanel And Ftp Down, Hosting Up? is that normal?
Nabb replied to mm22's topic in Web Hosting Support
Submit a ticket, I can't think of anything that would make it fail like that. It sounds like an IP ban except you can access your website so I'm not sure. Maybe you're typing your password wrong? -
That makes no sense, if everyone voted for themselves then everyone would be tied ;p *reconsiders* Moderator of the year: jlhaslip Most helpful: Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo. I don't remember which buffalo's to capitalise though! Most improved: Sky (he went from a spam rating to an agree rating, right?) Shoutboxer: Bluebear (it's a timezone thing), SM. Programmer: OpaQue ;p Tech geek: e775924084fa921a8ffc6afc45eb07e9 (that outdoes csp, yea?)

I don't have a plan, but I can see how one would be useful. I think if I had no time to think about it, I'd grab my laptop Big TV's are hard to carry out of a burning apartment sadly
