  1. Has anyone surfed around the Discovery Shuttle's website? (Well, I think it was that one...) It has this funny program that makes flash movies, where you choose a background, music, main characters and type in what they say.Anyway. Haven't looked at the calendar for a while so I'm kind of out of sync, but I'm hoping the 13th of July isn't a Friday, lol. Now, repeating Repeater (cackles insanely), I wish them the best of luck... The Colombia disaster was a bit of a.. Well.. Yeah.. So I'm hoping this one will go well so other shuttles will be launched. If this one crashed or had a fatal problem also, I don't think NASA will launch another one for a long, long time. Anyhow, best of luck to the Discovery team
  2. Yesterday, (July the 4th), NASA launched a probe from the space craft Deep Impact towards a comet. Even though the distance the probe had to travel from Deep Impact to Tempel 1 (the comet, which is abuot half the size of Manhattan) was roughtly 830, 000, 000 miles (or 133,571,900 kilometres), the impact was described as a "bull's eye". The probe was about 820 lb, or 372 kg, and had a copper core. It hit Tempel 1 at 23, 000 miles or 37, 014 km / hour. The force of the impact is equal to something like four and a half tons of dynamite. So far, the size of the crater caused by the probe is not known, but depending on the elements the comet is made up of it could be between the size of a stadium and a house.A good reason behind probing comets (other than learning about them) is that if a comet like Tempel 1 ever hits the earth, "they pose the threat of cataclysmic damage if they ever strike Earth," according to Dr. A'Hearn. So knowing now that we can deflect comets if one is found heading towards us is pretty reassuring ^^Sorry if that was a bit strange, I seem to remember writing a lot of "abouts" in there.. I might go to sleep soon.
  3. Nice tutorial.. Looks like the whole world's going off the grunge and into the pixelated look now ^^

    Cfm?

I always thought that CFM was the web format for the Lotus Domino programs by IBM.
  5. 'Ok, that was just a tad confusing. What exactly does "what is a revolution?" have to do with a new console? And I was thinking you were doing a SOSE assignment, lol.
  6. Hmm. The picture seems to have disappeared now that I'm trying to look at it and give an opinion.
  7. Wasn't Atlantis meant to be some Greek or other Meditteranean island which sank below the waves after a volcano eruption or something? I don't think the airtight bubble is very likely, since even today we don't have technology powerful enough to do that.
  8. The BNR Metal Pages is the best band information site, but they don't really have much "current-news"-wise information. The site is updated pretty often though, with reviews, interviews and such. For general band news, wouldn't it just be easier to check out your band's official site or their site on the record label? I personally hate wading through tons of info about bands I've never heard of to find something which interests me.
  9. Nice shade of blue.. But perhaps the text should be a different colour to the background? I mean, its easy to read even though there's no fill, but it doesn't really "jump out" at you like successful banners should. Yes, if your offering a service, its good to add the URL ^^In the large vacant areas (free space), you can maybe try and put in some elements that you use on your site pages (e.g. patch a little bit of the background on) so that when people go to the site they can mentally "link" the banner to the site. You could also just add bits of random ornamentation, like decorative 1 pixel lines, silhouette shapes and so on.
  10. mass and energy are not the same thing. If they were, why would they be on two different axes of the same graph? At the moment, physics does indeed dictate that light is the fastest travelling thing ever. If it were not, the entire area of physics and relative science would be rewritten. But it has been before. Remember the times when people thought everything revolved around earth, or even that earth was flat? Another thing that hasn't been taken into account is other dimensions. The fourth dimension is often thought to be that of time.

    File Sharing

Prevent spyware.. Um.. Give up the internet? It's like abstinence.. None at all is the only 100% safe solution.
  12. We gave about 75% percent of the drive space to Windows in partition.. Though not by choice! I have huge Photoshop files (brushes, PSD's etc) and an odd assortment of games which are pretty much leeching all our space.
  13. Is like an infinite speed, but is not exactly an infinite speed. According to the lovely google calculator which I have instead of the smiling attractive hostess, the speed of light = 299 792 458 m / s. The point of hyperspace, travelling through a vacuum, is lack of friction. With just a little bit of gas and mostly nothingness out in space, the friction is still there. So it drags your spaceship/whatever down. In fact, the speed at which most things move at is determined by the surface area because the more surface area, the more friction. There's also something about streamlining, which is sort of the same principle. Streamlining means more surface area is "latent", so to speak, so there is less surface area exposed to the friction. That's why jumbo jets, though larger than elephants, tend to move a bit faster. If there was nothing at all, in a vacuum, what's there to stop you from moving faster than the speed of light?
  14. Picassa's Hello service is not advertised as an instant messaging service. Yes, it sends instant messages, but most things do. Its main selling point is that it is a photo sharing program, and should be noted as such rather than as an instant messaging service.
  15. Imageshack, photobucket, there are heaps of image hosts. But not so many file hosts.. I discovered Streamload early last year. I no longer use it. It is slow (probably because of the huge number of users) and when I try to download files it often stops half way through or only downloads half the file and says "download finished" in the dialog. Save File http://forums.xisto.com/ is better, though they have a limit of 600kb on their uploads or something like that (been a while since I uploaded anything). But no sign up, hotlinking allowed and is fairly fast, considering its a free file server. Be wary of sites which advertise things along the lines of "100% free, no bandwidth limit, no file size limit" because even though what they say may be true, you'll find that in a few weeks the site no longer exists, and alas, neither do your files any more. It took me a while of being duped by sites like Filebucket before waking up to the fact that they were all spam servers for the time they exist and then ceased to exist, taking your files with them.
  16. Yes.. Hello. Have some cookies. *brings over plate of cookies*
  17. G Hosting.. I don't think that's going to happen, or if it does it won't be at the same quality as the other services. If they turn into a portal like Yahoo, Excite etc, they may offer hosting with scanty space and ads like they do. And the whole point behind google is providing a good, free service. So if they gave you a tiny bit of spaces plastered with ads, wouldn'ti t kind of defeat the purpose? G messenger - I hope it won't be another generation of IM. If it was just a program that incorporated AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber etc and gave you an option to ad other google users, that could be of some use. Especially as google aims to make everything multi platform (most of the multi IM proggies only work in windows).
  18. Nice, though I think the vertical blue strips at the top would look better if they weren't so long. Maybe a bit blurred on the bottom? It reminds me of the wallpapers and screenshots of Windows Longhorn ^^
  19. I understand all the physics and laws behind most discussions, because my dad was a physicist (and refuses to shut up at any time during the day or night when we're with him) Having read my way through most of the school library's science fiction stands (and comics, lol), the most common theory about how to get around those distances is hyperspace, or something like that. The ability to enter another dimensional reality and hurtle through vacuums at speeds otherwise impossible. This idea may be possible, but looking at science so far nobody's actually come up with any theories on how to get into hyperspace. Nobody at the moment knows what's going on behind that little (or big) red button people press to enter hyperspace. In some books hyperspace can only be entered at certain places, but the facts behind that are scanty. Yes, some places have a stronger concentration of gases, a lack of oxygen etc, but the switch between two kinds of planes shouldn't be affected by those little details. The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a funny thing called the improbability factor drive. After reading through the sections about the Heart of Gold analytically (which you're obviously not meant to do because the book is so tedious and boring that way), I found it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It should probably be noted here that Douglas Adams was slightly drunk when he thought of the idea behind the book. Some people believe that because of certain factors to do with light, time and speed (and no, I didn't understand), if you move at the speed of light time stops or something like taht. If you move faster than the speed of light, time goes backwards (so that's how Superman managed to reverse time by flying around the planet, lol. Had nothing to do with turning gravity at all). I don't think that's true though. If you move faster than the speed of light, and your racing a beam of light, you eventually outstrip it and fly alone in darkness with the light behind. Isn't that just more logical? I don't mind not being able to fly to one side of the galaxy to another in just a few days. I don't mind being stuck here on Earth for the rest of my life. What's there to see out there anyway?
  20. Can't you connect another monitor to your laptop? I only use one, but I have multiple desktops thanks to the miracle of Linux.. Though its not really the same thing. My furry uses 2, though I can't think what for..
  21. I don't think phpNuke's compatible with Invision boards. What's wrong with using phpBB anyway? If you want some of the features you have to install yourself in phpBB like attachements and such but can't be bothered doing it yourself, try using SMF, which is another message board that you can install using Fantastico.
  22. That's cool.. I like the first one most though, the red stripey things look a bit strange with the white/pinkglow name text. What font is that?
  23. Or maybe methane ^^"Methane cars - powered your local (rude) cows"
  24. I don't comprehend cricket at all but that was still pretty funny :DThere was a picture of Shoaib Akhtar in the newspaper a while ago.. He looked pretty ^^
  25. Nice tutorial.. Though my IP changes every once in a while and I've never had to know it for anything. But if we ever get stuck in linux and need to know ..
