  1. I don't know if this is the right place or not but for some reasong https://support.xisto.com/ shows I don't have any money. Kindly advise as when I post it says approx $25 and the bill is unpaid on Xisto - Support.comThanks PM me if possible
  2. For a configuration like yours I think You should go for a commercial solution like Symantec antivirus. Although , I've never personally used it but people tell me that its good. Plus, You only have to update the definition on the server's end. Clients will pick it up automatically, so you don't have to update all the PC's manually. I don't know if this kind of thing is available in Kaspersky or not. But I think , if we consider single PC solutions Kaspersky is best.
  3. Hi Simpleton First thanks for the review. I wish I had read it earlier. I installed it on one of the slower machines in my college. And I felt , I was trying to run Vista Its slow as hell and yes It fails to mount NTFS (sometimes). It might be due to the OLD motherboard. Thats all we can blame. I think I'll format it and install Koala on mine also. But , I liked the new theme. For some reason I think its better than the one in 9.10 NEways, I hope they fix the slow speed issue in their next release or release a patch or something. I used to think that Ubuntu was not resource hungry, Guess I was wrong. BTW.. My personal desktop is too fast for Ubuntu 10.04 . I was having issues with installing ATI drivers on 9.10 so I had to switch to 10.04. Its not as fast as 9.10 but I dont feel much of lag on this machine. And It detects almost all my HDDs up till now. I think Ubuntu is also removing support for Old hardware like Windows
  4. Hi, I haven't used much of the netbooks floating in the market, tried a lenovo's netbook once running XP and a similar configuration to yours and it was giving a backup of approximately 3.5 hrs. I think Ubuntu is the best OS as far as resources and battery part is considered. I've tried running Ubuntu and XP on my Laptop and out of the two Ubuntu gives better results in terms of battery and speed. But then, The New Ubuntu (10.04 LTS) , is not that good. I think there's something missing I am running it on my Desktop and don't want to put it in my Laptop. For some reason, It doesn't work good on RAM less than 1 GB (Tried it in one of my college's computer). Overall , I think Linux is a better option if you consider battery , but I personally think that most of the things are not there on Ubuntu. I still love my XP even if I get less battery.
  5. May be you can try to reject the SMS using tools available (I have one inbuilt). That might give a failed report. In theory, If your phone recieves SMS, It sends an OK to the Cell tower it recieved this SMS from. If you can figure out a way to convert that OK to NOT OK, your objective is complete. I hope you get my point.
  6. Hmm.. Thanks for the reply. I now only have 5770 as an option, since the last 4870 was sold out yesterday (thats what my dealer says). I can still buy a 4870 in 512 but I think its better to stick to 5770 1GB. As for the power supply, I think I'll upgrade if I face any issues.
  7. Hi, I am going to upgrade to either HD 4870 or HD 5770. I just want to know 2 things. 1. I am currently running Windows XP 64 bit. and an Nvidia graphics card. Do I need to format my system , If I go for a Radeon ? or can I just remove the graphics card's drivers and then install the new drivers ? 2. Should I upgrade my power supply ? I am currently Using a 550 Watt, which is powering my CPU (Q6600) 4GB Ram and 1.5 TB of HDD (1 TB + 2x 250 GB) my current card is XFX 8600 GT for which the maximum draw is about 50 Watt. The two cards I am considering are going to draw upto 100-120 watt.
  8. Hi, Blaster is not the only reason for windows Restarting. You might be having a corrupt system file as the reason. Try fixing your windows. Hope this helps
  9. I just bought a Samsung TFT. Good part is that it has great contrast ratio 50000:1 (dynamic) and a good response time (2ms). Bad part is , it has some touch LED buttons. I can't seem to get it to work in a single try. Takes about 2-3 tries on the button to register the touch  At first I thought I am the only one, but thats with all the monitors( Samsung P2250). Can someone suggest a software that can be used to change the brightness and contrast of the monitor. I have to keep switching between a high brightness (for games) and low brightness (for text and internet surfing). Its quite frustrating if you try it the first time
  10. @mra550 - You can NOT always increase the processor speed. Plus you should know what you are doing. Since overclocking means you are increasing the processors safe clock speed and in some cases voltage to make it run faster. While doing this, if you Over do this (like our friend -Sky-) you might end up with a useless system. When overclocked , a processor produces more heat than it normally does, even when its idle. Hence , it needs more cooling also.
  11. Hi -Sky-1. What were you trying to do ? Overclocking is generally done only upto a certain limit. I haven't seen anyone overclock more than 10% of stock speed. Anyways. Did you have a fan modification installed or something when you attempted this ? coz If not , your processor might have been damaged.2. Overclock settings are based on bios generally. Can you please elaborate how you achieved this overclocking ? I mean did you manually change the clock and clock multipliers from bios or changed voltage settings ? or Did you use a tool from your OS ? and Do mention you motherboard's model3. You can try removing the battery on your motherboard and then starting up the PC. Chances are it'll boot normally.
  12. Only RAM is not responsible for the Game getting slowed. You haven't specified the full configuration of your system. Anyways. Your graphics card is the main thing responsible for rendering of the game. So even if you put more RAM and your card isn't too good , You won't be able to run the game with max settings. If you want to play games with everything set to max , I'll suggest you buy a high end graphics card ( and a good power supply as per requirement ).
  13. A 2 GB single stick will perform faster than the 2.5 that you are going to put up. There are two simple reasons. Firstly , You'll clock won't be 800 it'll be only 533 . Secondly, I don't know why but even when people put up 1+1 GB it performs slower than a single 2 GB. That's what I have noticed. So I'll say you stick with a single 2 GB. If you plan to upgrade in future buy another 2 GB and put it. oh, and You won't see more than 3 GB in a 32 bit system. So unless u plan upgrading on a 64 bit OS stick to 2 GBHope this helps
  14. Hi, Firstly your 2GB ram is of 800 MHz and the 512 ram is 533 MHz. Secondly, I don't know for sure but I think the 2GB module is DDR2 based and the 512 is DDR (old) So I don't think the ram would be compatible with each other. Out of curiosity, Since I don't know about your motherboad, were you able to run the 2GB module on your system ? Do mention more specs next time
  15. You didn't mention the model number of your laptop. Please mention that, in your future reply. I hope we could find some solution. As far as the initial diagnosis goes, I'll say( like shadowx pointed out) some part of your hardware is not functioning properly. I once had a similar problem with a HP laptop. The problem was due to a faulty strip cable that connects Monitor to the graphics display on the main board. Can't comment on your problem though, since you haven't given us much to work on.
  16. If you need something free , try looking for Ophcrack I once had this problem on a lab PC , some dumbass locked it up using his personal password. It was an XP machine and the password was pretty simple. Took ophcrack like 2 min to crack the password. I don't know if it works well with complex passwords anyways, you can give it a try. Just download the system specific iso and burn it on a cd/dvd. put it in and reboot. Its almost automated. http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/
  17. You don't need any other tools.. From what I understand - You need to change the file permissions to open it in your new current account All you have to do Go to File Properties > Select Security Tab > Advanced > Select Owner tab and change the current Owner.(It might be showing an Unknown user in the tab you just have to select your username )It'll replace the owner on the file.Apply and then again go to Properties >Security >Advanced > Permissions and Change permissions on the file according to your requirement .If you want Everyone to have access to a particular file . Just add 'Everyone' as the Owner or add 'Everyone' in the Auditing tab to change permissions :)Hope this tutorial helps.. I am not very good at writting tutorials :DNOTE: This method worked for me when my windows got corrupt and I had my files locked using the Admin password of the old windows. Hopefully It'll work for you also
  18. @ onkarnath2001 - DONT YOU READ BEFORE POSTING .. MY CMOS' BATTERY IS FINE .. I AM NOT GOING TO CHANGE IT .. PLEASE DON'T POST JUST FOR THE SAKE OF POSTING WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON .. and IF YOU NEED the SOLUTION > SEE rvalkass' comment
  19. Thanks Everyone@rvalkass Thank you .. I'll try the method u suggested an update -- The time screw up also screws my Pocket PC ... I synced my Pocket PC with my computer when it was displaying the wrong time and guess what .. It changed the time on my PPC also .. and the funny part was , when I checked the time in the middle of the night and it was still showing me evening
  20. I haven't deleted the unused Ubuntus but I've made the default to WinXP .. Thankfully GRUB 2 didn't change much.I was expecting a screw up following the change in grub.cfg. Thankfully it didn't.GRUB 2 created the list with a strange coding. took me 2-3 tries to make XP the default one.I hope some GRUB 2 expert would guide me through cleaning the list.
  21. Update : My clock is still displaying odd times Ubuntu automatically updates its clock from internet so I don't notice it but it also displays incorrect time if my internet is turned off Windows XP doesn't do this so it keeps displaying wrong time Its 23:14 right now and its displaying me 17:44 I think this has something to do with the way Ubuntu and Windows synchronize time. I think Ubuntu uses UTC time as its standard and windows uses GMT. I hope someone can come up with a solution
  22. Hi, I recently updated my Ubuntu kernel to latest (i don't remember exactly which but its 2.6.x) Now My GRUB is quite messed up since it displays 3 Ubuntus with their debug modes plus a memtest and Win XP x64 in the list. Total of about 8-9 options. Can I remove the previous versions of Ubuntu's from the list manually ? If so How ? I tried googling and somewhere I read about editing menu.lst file in the /boot/grub folder .. I COULDN'T see any menu.lst file there I think its becoz of the GRUB 2 or something ..Someone please help me with thisPlus ,Now I also want to make my system boot to Windows as default instead of Ubuntu.I even tried installing KGRUBEditor but I don't know where its installed. I couldn't locate it in my Ubuntu (KDE)I have both KDE and GNOME so any method would do .. as long as its working.P.S. I didn't edit the grub.conf file since there was a warning in the header of the file.
  23. I am running Karmic release .. I don't know if you will like this or not , but still you can give it a shot.I installed screenlets for Ubuntu. It has this wallpaper clock thing where it sets a wallpaper that displays day , date and time on your wallpaper. Its quite good. You can download additional wallpapers also from the authors website.
  24. I was using Windows 7 x64 and had a similar issue. Its could be a virus since I had no antivirus on it (I thought Win 7 comes with some antivirus from Microsoft ). Anyways .. I've removed it and installed Ubuntu .. So don't know how to fix it manually. You can try running HijackThis and see if it comes up with any unusual entries. It works with XP and Vista so I hope it'll work with windows 7. You can copy the log from HijackThis and put it here . I am sure someone (even me) can help you with fixing it :PIf you are looking for changing your antivirus , I'll suggest you go for a good antivirus.Don't go for McAfee or Norton.NOD is good but I've seen it fail with many USB drive infections.I use Kaspersky and its quite effective if you have an updated versionAnother good antivirus is Avira but I've never personally used it, although few of my friends claim its good.oh .. btw.. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
  25. few years back , I got hold of Windows 3.1 source code. Majority of it was C++ (visual) and quite easy to understand.I believe they haven't changed much since then. They've just improved and optimized the windows environment. and Since I've found bugs in almost all windows version , I believe its definitely C++ :)I think C++ is the most powerful language till date.Haven't used java much so I can't compare the two
