A Question Regarding Credits A query about upgrading.
BuffaloHelp replied to Byaja's topic in Web Hosting Support
Trap17 free web hosting, no ads offers only two hosting plans, for free, at this time. Currently we do not offer additional space or bandwidth utilizing our unique hosting credit system. However, if you require additional space and/or bandwidth, check out https://xisto.com/ for unmatched paid hosting solutions. For just little as $3.33 per month you can have 2.1 GB space with 33.3 GB bandwidth. Thank you. -
I understand what you mean... we are just filled with tutorials but not a good way to search them effectively. This is another reason why topic titles are important. Keywords must be present when naming a topic.I have created dedicated CSS section a while ago under Programming (it's not intuitive, I know) but since it's more of Programming side than just an orphaned tutorial, I thought it would serve best there. You may request for CSS tutorial or help by posting under CSS section.Thank you.

Hello Xisto members, especially Firefox lovers and advocators! While testing the buoyancy of my personal toy (my boat) I ran into the land called, Canada. There, I had to scavenge for some ration to keep up with my day to day activities. Surprisingly, the land called Canada was hospitable and plentiful in many diverse and exotic things. So I brought back some to share with my Xisto community. Ha ha... Now that you've read the excitement in my words, I'd like to present few things. The following programs are not guaranteed by Xisto or me. They are publicly available downloads but it's hard to find. I am merely making it accessible and make no claims that they are stable, fully supported working versions. The zipped files are for Windows OS platform, Linux and Mac. The original files were not modified or renamed, only the zipped file names were changed. They are presented as they are when I received from the Firefox source. Firefox 3.0 Alpha 6 RC2 version is available in Windows, Mac and Linux versions firefox_3.0a6.en_US.win32.installer.zip off site download (18.8 mb) firefox_3.0a6_linux.zip Firefox 3.0 Alpha 7 PRE version is available in Windows and Linux versions firefox_3.0a7pre_win32.zip firefox_3.0a7pre_linux.zip Test it out if you want. Alpha 7 PRE was reported to be in poor success rate as many testers noted that it crashed during the startup (of Firefox, not Windows). Happy testing.

I think the better way to use TABLE when inserting image is [table=0][tr][td][img]http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4087/ichthuxlf1.th.jpg[/img][/td][td][img=http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4087/ichthuxlf1.th.jpg][/td][td][img=http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4087/ichthuxlf1.th.jpg][/td][/tr][/table] I notice that if TD /TD and the next TD is next to each other, it creates huge width...the error in my coding. Sorry. Is there a way using CSS to allow break in line after a style? I should search line-break... I think that's the problem. I assumed that TABLE tag would be used just like HTML style, new line break etc. TABLE TR TD etc. because the following shows different format [table=0][tr][td][img]http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4087/ichthuxlf1.th.jpg[/img][/td][td][img=http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4087/ichthuxlf1.th.jpg][/td][td][img=http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4087/ichthuxlf1.th.jpg][/td][/tr][/table] PS, after a refresh.. they look the same... what gives?? ha ha ha Wait it's back! I think the format changes only when I edit and come out of AJAX edit mode...

Phew~~ I was searching for this topic. I didn't realize it would be under my nose I'd like to run a quick instruction to use Google email Apps with Xisto hosting members. The two requirements are that first, you MUST own a top level domain name. This includes all .ca .com .net .org .info .us .biz etc. The second is that you must be able to CHANGE MX records under your domain control. I say this because some domain registrars charge extra fee to enable this feature. So, having all the above ready to go let's begin the procedure to use Gmail as your MX (mail exchange) service with Xisto Hosting. 1. Sign up for Google Apps by going to the link mentioned above https://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/ Depending on if you already have a gmail account or need to sign up for one, this is your first step to sign-in for Google Apps service. 2. Proof of Ownership You have two choices to prove that you own and operate the domain name. First is to change CNAME records to Google. I wasn't comfortable with this at first--later I realized it's no big deal--so I optioned to upload a file to verify. This step is easily understood by following Google's online instruction. 3. Change MX records under domain control In the dashboard of your new Google Apps, there's an instruction link to follow MX change information according to popular domain registrars. Whoever you have purchased your domain from, the basic idea is that you enter their MX record names with appropriate PRIORITY values. This table shows appropriate MX record names with blank priority--since not all registrars use the same. Priority -- Mail Server 1 --------- ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 5 --------- ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 5 --------- ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. 10 -------- ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. 10 -------- ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. Take NOTE that there's trailing "dot' at the end of each record. This isn't a typo. It's necessary. Follow the instruction carefully and you will be alright. Double check you have entered them correctly and click save/submit to change MX records of your domain. 4. The Critical Part in finishing MX setup My first attempt was a failure because I forgot to do this step. Access your Xisto cPanel and go to Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry) and select your domain (assuming it's already associated, add-on or parked) and enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. (again the trailing "dot" at the end is necessary). 5. Activate your email with Google Apps The last step is to let Google Apps activate by accessing your dashboard and click "I have completed these steps". Once clicked the Google Apps will check for correct setting and your account will be active fully. The first attempt failed for me because I missed the step #4. The second attempt activating Google Apps mail took less than 3 mintues when I completed the step #4. All case may be different but this is how Xisto hosting can be used with Google Apps. Good luck. And if any information provided needs to be changed/updated please let us know

Hello Xisto members, After much needed tests we are happy to introduce 3 more bbcodes (yeah~). I know, I know it's not that exciting. My observation is that some tutorials involving graphics may need IMGALIGN to add an extra personal touch to your own. Furthermore, to help and serve members in general, GOOGLE and DEFINE were also added to aid the reply process--if there is any The first is GOOGLE Using this bbcode is simple. To suggest searching a keyword or phrase simply type the following code in a post. [google]Free Web Hosting, No Ads[/google]and it will show search:Free Web Hosting, No Ads Notice that the phrase trails the prefix search: to alert the reader that the link will demonstrate the search results. The next is DEFINE Whether to search words or phrases online definition have replaced most of spell checks built into a software. This bbcode is nothing new but a mere shortcut to better present your discussion--I hope. Again, the usage of this bbcode is simple that, [define]plethora[/define]will show define:plethora As with the previous bbcode tag, this will show suffix of define: followed by a word or a phrase. There is a fault to a long phrase: since the definition service is provided by google not every phrase may show. This is not the limitation of the bbcode tag but google's define application. As suggested in this post by serverph, Wikipedia search would be more accurate. However, my limited coding ability seems to be the obstacle. If anyone can contribute how to utilize Wikipedia with IP.B forum please feel free to post I had a choice of using google or dictionary.com. At the end, google won my pondering hours since we all love the mighty google. Besides, I wouldn't think everyone would appreciate annoying pop-ups that dictionary.com sticks to your browsing experience. The last, but not the least, is IMGALIGN I had a bit of trouble with CSS (jlhaslip wasn't there ) aligning. And although I have managed to show properly, the result is far less than perfect. Usages are as follow: to align a picture to the left [imgalign=left]full image URL (just like [img] tag)[/imgalign]to align a picture to the right [imgalign=right]full image URL[/imgalign] To see these bbcodes in demonstration, please see this thread Bbcode Testing Zone. You obviously can see that somehow my post is out of forum's format. Thank you.

The basic idea is that whether it is right (tolerate it by default since can't win the battle) or wrong, would he subject to continued abusive power when (John) realized this on-going unfair practice? There is no right solution since every experience is not the same. And no one can claim that a solution presented is the right one. But the understanding that there's an alternative is the advice. Whatever the objective may be a monetary promotion is involved or principle and integrity are at stake, John can stay within the system--nepotism--or find an employer who can provide better working environment and with much deserved respect. I have been at the end of both edges. I was once hired as a young man because I made a good impression to my superior. But at the same time I missed out many promotions due to the topic, which is in discussion. This made me wonder how many of us received the better end of nepotism (or favoritism), either knowingly or unknowingly? Some of us gained great discounts at purchase(s) because a close member of the family worked at a *insert name* retailer. Some of us had received reduced price on service(s) with the same reason. It is a subtle yet quite strong practice we, as a human race, perform consciously or subconsciously. To deny this may be the few percents of the population but, the majority of the occasion we have received favors from nepotists around us. In a perfect world, nepotists would not exist. In the imperfect world the good people fight and resist. The advancement in human race should include objectivity toward color, race, sex, creed and family. It may happen in our life time or it may not. But before that day can any one of us truly say that there's a level of tolerable nepotism? If we were treated any specially because of our relationship one time or another, we have all succumbed to nepotism. Is there one nepotism greater offense than another? That is the folly of mankind, I believe. We grade and define compromising standard according to the benefit of an outcome. Let's not dwell on the cause of the problem, but deal with the path which John may consider--or reply to a member's post that implicates the question of a statement or a belief (this may seem like a personal attack rather than a forum discussion). The advancement of human race will not spawn from mentioning a mistake but preparing the future by removing it. We can pick apart the issue in immeasurable ways and there will be no one opposing to the answer, "nepotism is not right". Instead, we could address the problem in how to work this terrible stain in John's work place to his favor. If all resolutions come to fail and all possible tries have exhausted then, perhaps, it's time for John to move on to better things. That is, after all, John's free will.

Xisto forum does not delete any post unless it's spam or junk. Your application will stay as it is unless you want admin to remove your personal information. Would you like to do that, instead? What's done is done--your email somehow got captured (or deliberatly given to spam-bots). Even you quit and remove your personal information, your email has already passed around to other spamming bots. So how to rectify the situation? Filter using any email tools (gmail is so good at this) and start filtering it by: if TO address does not match xxxx@emailaddy then move to spam folder And you would do this for every email address (for example you're hosting email with google apps and you have admin@xxxx abuse@xxxx where "xxxx" represents email username). Then you get to see how else you're receiving email, such as subject line "prescription" or "drug"... whatever. Use the filter again to say, if SUBJECT contains word "prescription" then move to spam folder. As always, report every spam to gmail or any other email hosts. This would list FROM address to go directly to spam folder.

My Clean And Minimal Portfolio Site Less is More
BuffaloHelp replied to BooZker's topic in Websites and Web Designing
boozker, you have done it again! Nice, clean site. No clutter and nonsense! I like it very much.I like the mirror reflection effect. It works really well against the black background. Hey by the way, have to tried to use font-family: Fantasy as one of your fonts? Apparently most clients will support as they update to new Vista OS. I'm not sure about Macs but I heard that Safari can update font styles as needed, without a website prompting.I have been having fun with Fantasy font and that resembles your menu font--which you don't have to use graphics. I thought just I'd share :DNicely done, man! Good work. -
Graphics must be used with graphics editing tool, unless the website building program specifically states picture editing choice. However, there's good chance that you can do that with FrontPage. You have to open the picture tool and delete the background. Save it as GIF or PNG for all other file type will not save it as transparent background. There are online tools to convert your picture as transparent background. Search google or search our forums. I know we covered many graphics questions in GFX forum. Xisto features master guru graphics crew. Post a question or read one of their tutorials

Request application section cannot be visited by any robots or crawlers. Therefore, it's either manually collected (like page view by a real person) or your email was collected from your website and then spammed. This is very common, visiting a website and randomly generating whoever@yoursite especially Xisto subdomain are very popular in the net.Try using filter options and if you want to combat your spam situation you can set catch all to one email address, then forward a specific email, i.e. name@yoursite --> user@anotheremail.address

Tool bar that does...what??Remember to be descriptive when posting your topic. If it does search within Xisto, read RSS and all that shortcut stuff, we already have the Official Xisto browser plug-in section that explains plug-in for your browser. It's safe and fully supported by Xisto administrators.I, too, do not like the fact that I don't know who or what BizBar may collect. However, I appreciate you trying to support Xisto with various tools :DThank you.

Hosting With Php hosting with mail() fuctions active
BuffaloHelp replied to round's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Mail( ) is not something you, as a hosting member, configure. You can use the PHP command called Mail( ) but it must be enabled. Mail( ) function must be enabled by the server. And Xisto Free Web Hosting, no ads, have enabled Mail( ) plus other things like Safe_Mode = Off. This is very rare compare to other free web hostings, no ads on the net. The reason is for their best interest and not yours; by turning it off protects their servers from malicious usage.Xisto is the best free web hosting on the web. You can give it a try with our starting package--it requires just 10 hosting credits. And when you are satisfied with our hosting upgrade to the default package of 500mb space and 10000mb bandwidth. -
Nepotism, whether like it or not, is part of human nature--more like a basic instinct--that protects "one of their own." Although some sociologist would protest, it is, I believe, a basic tattooed genetic response than a learned behavior. To make my point of view, the reason babies are 'cute' or puppies are 'adorable' is nature's way of striking maternal instinct from the very core. And as the baby grows and observes this maternal instinct, he/she adapts a positive response that's rewarded from this behavior. That maternal instinct somehow evolves and forms a different kind of bond--friendship, clique, love or what have you. Perhaps I am over generalizing. But then again, loyalty is hard to describe since it changes under circumstances. After all, nepotism is a form of loyalty...just that it's formed and defined within certain relationship between two people; like among members of a family. So to fight the nepotism and clearly the unfair hiring practice of a person or persons, with an instinct that's embedded from the day the human race began, is a losing battle from the start. But there's hope. Part of the solution to your bother-in-law's predicament is that he was able to identify the injustice quickly. The next step is to plan ahead instead of react. He cannot change the course of a river in a flash. It will take tremendous time to change the course. The key question here is, "is he willing to stick it out and fight the current" or "is he better off in a place where his aptitudes are well utilized and appreciated?"Why stress over something so insignificant? And I say this loosely, insignificant, because I am sure he has far better things in his life to occupy his thoughts--like taking care of his family, his health or his community. Is the job paying far better than what he can switch over? Perhaps he should ride the current until he can find much suitable alternative(s). Is he so obsessed with "saving-face" or cannot be disgraced among his colleagues that he cannot let this issue just idly pass by? Well the job may not be good for his health. Why would he stay in the situation that bring so much stress or grief and subject himself to such punishment?Whatever the case may be for the bother-in-law, his ego and esteem should not handle the situation. Weigh out the pros and cons of staying at his job. Find the answer quickly. And act with the conviction. The choice is clear: to leave or to stay. I rather look out for myself and find a place where I am appreciated. No amount of money/position is worth decaying my health. And if he is as well educated as you are, I'm sure he can come to a clear conclusion for himself--and not at others' suggestions. Taking the high road right now may seem weak and cowardice to the world, but the righteous path is always far harder to travel than the other road.

Trap17 Has Smtp? Can we run PHP scripts to send e-mail?
BuffaloHelp replied to vintedois's topic in Software
To use SMTP on Xisto server you must use your own SMTP username and password. So first you need to establish the account. The default username is your cpanel username. Password is your cpanel password unless you changed it for your email account. To read more about SMTP setting, please see the HOSTED MEMBERS AREA pinned topics. And as always use the forum search before making your case.Thank you. -
Php Or Html? which do you use?
BuffaloHelp replied to habbovalley's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Tetraca, Thanks for the pointer. I guess since I use mainly to "calculate" my pages depending on the result, such as random file displaying or visitor's status value (whatever it may be) I just started to use PHP and spit out HTML command using the ECHO. This made me forget your point--PHP is really a scripting language where PHP still depends on HTML markups to render web pages. I did find an answer to my question above...PHP or HTML and does it matter to SEO. Source At the worse case, I can always rewrite .php to show .html by .htaccess rewrite. -
Php Or Html? which do you use?
BuffaloHelp replied to habbovalley's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I use PHP because I can manipulate web pages more with PHP than HTML, like including another webpage to the current page with the command include. You can do the same with HTML but have to use bulky <object> command with register keys that's hard to remember. And coming from C++ background, I was able to understand PHP faster compare to HTML commands--especially love the FOR loop and IF, THEN commands. However, I've been meaning to ask this question: do search engines like HTML page more than PHP page? I made few websites years ago, at the same time, one with PHP and the other one with HTML. Google, it seems, liked HTML pages better than PHP. My backlink search shows HTML cached by Google and none of my PHP cached by Google... Am I dreaming? So, ultimately do you build with HTML (file ending) or PHP (file ending) which to choose? -
You first have to UNPARK the domain and then use it to change your cpanel associated domain name. Remember that when you change your domain name, all your relative links, such as <img src=old sub-domain.trap17.com must be pointing to the new domain. Check all your database as well--if you installed WordPress or forum that required database, chances are you have to go and edit those as well.Until then, I cannot be sure if there's an error with the Process domain name change script of you're trying to associate the already associated domain name to a hosting account.

Please stay current with Xisto hosting issues by reading Alerts and Notices and Hosted Members area.Since the upgrade to cpanel 11, we have been having issues with Fantastico's auto script. Therefore, we have temporarily taken off line for this 3rd party plug-in.If you need to install certain scripts, please feel free to search and then post topic if not existing. Moving to Members section.
-
There's no email with your account information. The only account information you see is the page right after the succession of account creation. It says to save this page. This is for your own safety and safety of your account and server.Information contains the address to use FTP, your cpanel username and password, cpanel address etc., which all can be found right here in the forum. So don't sweat it. If you need HOW-TO Xisto account, just read up on Xisto Readme first then search the forum or PM a member/moderator/admin.

Suggest Free Shopping Cart shopping cart, cart, ecommerce, asp
BuffaloHelp replied to johnvevo's topic in General Discussion
johnvevo,If you read our forum rules, you would have noticed that we provide hosting service with PHP. ASP is not supported with our services. Therefore, this post is just advertising your product--which is against our forum rules. Please read our forum rules and understand them. Further advertising by the same company will result in ban and spam abuse report to VevoCart Team. And lastly, please post in the correct forum section. -
Thanks for the correction, SM. Staying up late and fixing stuff + making support post = disaster The password to your cpanel is the password you set during the initial account setup. If you have forgotten or have the wrong password, visit https://support.xisto.com/ , aka "The Process Page" and reset your cpanel password. It will cost 10 of your hosting credits. It's option #8 by the way.
