For some time I have been noticing too many patterns in problems with hosting accounts and their passwords. We have a topic that started here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/51508-my-password-changed/ As I manage to regain the control to these accounts I began to notice some odd incidences. Namely, I have been noticing that the last IP to enter these hosting accounts had similar origin location. The origination is from Vietnam. And account effected are passwords with simple and dictionary related passwords. I will be dealing with the culprit. In the mean time, dear hosting members, please please follow my instructions as I have been preaching this from the beginning! Do Not Start your password with a word that's found in a dictionary. For example "acehorse" Do mix alphabets and numbers. Do mix cap letters and symbols. Do rotate your passwords regularly. Do check your last login IP on your cpanel. This is the first indication of intrusion. This includes your forum password as well. Your forum account is the gateway to your hosting password change. This finding will be sent to OpaQue so that he can take the next measure of defense.

Horus, it seems like your password was incorrect (the one you gave me to try to log in). I have changed it to something and I pm'ed you. Once I changed Horus' cpanel password. I was able to access his cpanel. Since I am going through this topic, if I change your cpanel and works you will be notified. I will change your cpanel to something generic and I'll PM you personally. sylenzednuke, I have PM'ed you with a new password. I should work now. I was successful. For all accounts that I change your cpanel passwords: please login as soon as possible and change it to something you'll remember. Your cPanel can change your password. Boozker, I have PMed you with new password. I was successful and hopefully you'll be too. Remember to change your password to something you can remember. Damen, I have PMed you with new password. I was successful and I hope you will be too. abminara, I have changed your password and PM'ed you about it. Don't forget to change your password under cPanel. etycto, Your new password was Pm'ed to you. Anyone else I have missed, please PM me. 222 252 145 194

Alegis,Have you deleted any folders or files before this issue? I see only Music folder and its contents in the trash bin, which tells me folders were deleted using FTP client or the trash bin was emptied out.The folders which are VERY crucial for your web hosting to perform are public_html, public_ftp and other important cpanel folders. You have none of those. So have you deleted them? If so, you have to terminate your current hosting and re-apply for new account. We have no way to "reset" your hosting account.

It is unclear at this point but you're not alone. And your account has not been hacked, as far as I can tell. The reason I'm saying this is because I think it all started when there were restructuring of servers few weeks ago. Please visit https://support.xisto.com/ and submit a support ticket. Include detailed issue along with cpanel username, your URL and server name (gamma).Thank you.

It is unclear at this time but there are sporadic "loop" for certain members' accounts during proper cpanel authentication. Please submit your issues to https://support.xisto.com/ Be sure to include all your account information such as: cpanel username, hosting URL, server name (gamma) etc.At this point I have no clue to what would be the actual problem since I haven't received any replies as well.

Well, faults or no faults... let's use this situation to learn. I hope that YungOdo's hard work on making a site didn't go to a waste. We're here to support and trade tips and tricks (but not pointing fingers just some constructive suggestions). YungOdo let us know what you installed and perhaps we can make it secure it better. As for your hosting servers: it is neither near OpaQue or I They're located in somewhere deep beneath the Earth under secure settings where they are among their own kinds ha ha ha. I have nothing to do with hosting servers except I do some quick remote trouble shoots when I can. But ultimately, OpaQue has the full control and his server techs.

abminara, Please visit https://support.xisto.com/ and submit your own ticket. By entering or registering with your own information you can track your progress/reply. I have tried to help Horus' situation but at my end I have done all I could. But seems like it did not resolve. Please submit to server tech and perhaps they might be able to assist you better. Thank you.

If you installed custom scripts or used any free scripts to run your site, i.e. Joomla or PHPNuke, you must update with the latest patch otherwise security holes can leave potential juveniles to mess with your hard work. That's hardly any hacking really--just them knowing you installed outdated scripts on your site. Please know the current security issues with any scripts you install, and double check your customized script. We're here to test it out for you in the friendly environment

Topic is resolved. Please PM any moderator to continue this discussion. Until then, this topic is closed.

Nice try but no on hosting credit refund. Sorry.Perhaps the IP address used alone is not liked by your browser or by your ISP. Sometimes your ISP rather have the domain resolved to a name than used IP straight out.Be sure to add your domain to TRUSTED SITE list and always use your-domain.ext/cpanel. This is easier to remember.

Under the ACP > Tools and Settings > Warn Set-Up you can protect which group is to be curbed from receiving warnings.Carson is right. If an admin needs to warn a moderator, perhaps that moderator should not be in your moderator group. But that's just my thinking. An alternative is installing a special NOTE tag where only a member intended can see but no others can. This mod is found in Invisionize. Pretty handy mod if you want to send a message to a member/mod but in private. But then again, there's always the PM system. Why add more mods that can slow down your forum?

I'm afraid this little trick does not work with Firefox... either that I have my security set too high
-
Using any FTP client software, try connecting to your account using your cpanel username and new (or old) password. If you are successful in logging in, chances are that your browser's security setting is set too high for proper session with your hosting cpanel.Try disabling your firewall and add your domain to TRUSTED SITE under your browser's option.
-
There are times even when entering the correct cpanel username and password on logon screen, you will see another logon screen. This is something I faced in the past and I was able to access it by entering my cpanel username and password again.Although our forum provides a universal cpanel login for your hosting, members are advised to access by typing:your-domain.ext/cpanelAnother reason why the screen can show only the blank white page is that your firewall may be blocking back request. Try accessing your cpanel with firewall disabled and see if you are successful. The reason I asked for FTP method is that when FTP is able to log you in but cpanel could not, this tells me that your browser security setting is interfering with the proper login session. Please enter your-domain.ext as TRUSTED site (under your browser's option) and also try it with your firewall disabled (for the time being). This will eliminate if the whole hosting accounts are affected or just accounts that are trying to access with the firewall guard on.Let me know how you guys are doing.

Any hosting support question must be accompanied with detailed description. For those who are experiencing issues, are you trying to access it through cpanel or FTP. Is FTP connecting fine but just cpanel via web browser? Are you seeing the security alert pop-up message or do you not any more? If you do see a security alert message, are you clicking on YES? If you have typed in username and password, what's the next screen that you're seeing that is described as "error" in this case? Please report back with more details.

My Colleague's Notebook Exploded with pictures
BuffaloHelp replied to faund's topic in General Discussion
Didn't Dell recall thousands of batteries made by Sony few months ago? I guess the recall didn't reach your country in time. What if the replacement battery was also recalled I'm glad that no one got hurt.I've always practiced to unhook my battery when working off of the power cord. Not only it saves my battery from constant discharging and recharging, it seems like it prolongs the life of the original battery itself. -
WsFTP is another good alternative to FileZilla. I am shock to find that FileZilla decided not to support Windows 98 :PYou can change CHMOD using your cpanel as well. Access your cpanel and go to File Manager. Select the file you want to change and look to the upper right corner. You will find Change Permissions.

D-22 Shoutbox Not Working [resolved] HELP
BuffaloHelp replied to benzkids's topic in Web Hosting Support
Let us see the IPB page where you installed. In the mean time, have you set the proper permission for each group? If you are the board admin and you can't shout perhaps you should double check with the shout setting permission. -
Please consider using Xisto - Web Hosting.com hosting plans. With free web hosting by Xisto, although impressive, I am concerned that your business should be hosted with 24/7 tech support line and even higher reliability rate than Xisto.Any business that depends on almost near zero down time should consider a paid hosting.Hipergate looks impressive. However it requires JSP and Tomcat must be enabled by Xisto - Web Hosting per client basis. Java on the client side can be updated though Java.com. Xisto - Web Hosting offers MySQL 4.1.22 on theta server where as Xisto gamma is 5.0.27, as of this post. Hipergate requires 5.x version. Please inquire with Xisto - Web Hosting on which server offers 5.x version. You can open a support ticket by writing to support{at}Xisto - Web Hosting{dot}com

Project Digital Signage advertising media through internet
BuffaloHelp posted a topic in Programming
Introduction to Digital Signage Project and Discussion Digital Signage is becoming the next advertising phenomenon from yesteryears of newspaper and TV advertisements. Digital Signage can captivate an audience in closed quarters with effective, colorful advertising media (with or without sound) in places where people "have to" watch. These ideal places are in hotel lobbies, elevators, waiting rooms, service lines--supermarket checkout line, or anywhere people would stand still for few moments. The principle is to do nothing but advertising. Las Vegas airport terminal is a perfect example. People who are arriving and departing are bombarded with non-stop advertisements which is set in loop to repeat every x minutes. Shopping malls are utilizing this new found avenue to promote upcoming sales and special events that will attract more customers. The beauty of Digital Sinage is that one or more central location is updated and the rest of client "displays" are merely updated or receive updates from one source. This makes content updates quick. My project is to construct Digital Signage with minimum equipment and simple programming that will allow one central "server" to include contents and the "client" will display what the "server" feeds. To start this project, I viewed different aspects of hardware cost vs maintenance cost. And what better way to do this project by involving a web hosting? The construct of this project will require three things: hardware to display the content, software to drive the content and a remote "server" that will dictate what contents to show. Hardware Obviously, an intelligent hardware is needed to receive instructions from a remote (server) source. I haven been looking into several ways but the most easiest way is to have a small OS box that has the ability to run a web browser. Here is my plan: a hardware with OS running a browser --> browser calls a designated server --> server relays information (ads) --> the hardware displays contents. By above structure, I would need a bare minimum hardware with color display that is connected to a LCD monitor. And in order to receive information from a server, it would need NIC as well. To run advertisements would be simple. But to run advertisements that would require to be updated on a regular basis the update information must come through the internet. Software I found DOS 6 and DOS based browser that can display as effectively as Firefox. This was amazing. But how to run this browser in Kiosk mode? Kiosk mode will hide browser's command interface and show contents in full screen. This holds more of an aesthetic value than a function value. And this DOS based browser did not have the capability. So I searched some more and came across strip down version of Windows 98 (a.k.a. Windows 98Lite). By running a bare minimum Windows OS, I am now allowed to run IE in Kiosk mode ( F11 ) and auto hide the top menu bar. However, IE or any other browser does not enter the Kiosk mode unless a command script is running. Although it's a simple scripting I wanted to explore another option. Then came a script to make Windows screen saver that can display external HTML page/source. I am still in making a decision whether which would be used at the final stage. Server Given that a small computer operates with a browser capability. And the browser, each and every time it starts, calls a remote source to basically display. All I have to do is update the content in this remote server and instruct the display to either randomly or sequentially rotate the content. Such that, when a browser starts the default URL is set to, i.e. http://forums.xisto.com/ And this Xisto.com page is programmed to display ads according to programmer's instruction. Then any "client" that is calling Xisto.com URL would see the same ads all across. Diagram: You get the idea. How will this benefit advertising power? It is my opinion that by advertising in networks (in a sense of any place that is subscribing this digital signage machine) will show all other's advertisement thereby reaching even more audience than, let's say, printed materials or flyers. Of course, the locale would be important as well as the size of subscriber's advertisement would be larger than the rest of other advertisements. And since all advertisements located in the server would be shown, i.e. 15-30 seconds of intervals, the frequency and visibility would be considerably higher than the traditional printed advertisements. Compare to TV ads it would cost considerably lower and the maintaining and cost operation to run this service would be very basic as well. All I would need is to upload images or graphics to a specific folder and write a HTML, one page code, that would start to rotate accordingly. Programming Projection So why did I decided to post and make it with HTML? The simple answer is that I do not have to learn any other new programming or acquire new skill to make this work today. A web page can be divided to few sections: Header (displaying subscriber's information according to the location), Main view (subscriber's advertisements and promotions), (2) Quarters (showing smaller ads by others who paid for this ads' size) and (1) Half ads (for those who paid more for bigger than Quarter size ads. Screen shots and ideas coming soon... Discussion I would like to know if this planning is logical and if there would be any trend that my project would seem successful in the future. I have a hardware that I am testing which is composed of old PC with solid state drive (20mb compact flash card), Windows 98Lite, NIC, basic VGA, and 64MB RAM that all fits into a box no bigger than a Linksys router. The motherboard is from surplus project I once had which features mini-ITX with Intel PIII 800MHz processor. I decided to go with Windows screen saver idea at this time, since in case of emergency, my mini-pc can reboot and go to the state of Kiosk mode in 1 minute. To achieve this I wrote Windows screen saver program that can be configured to load HTML page both local and remote location. But since I want to manage the content universally (rather than updating ads machine by machine) I would be using remote location page view. HTML can be divided to sections and each section will be programmed to rotate ads (in images or text) by reading the appropriate directory. For example, img src=server/quarter will show only in the QUARTER ad section. img src=server/half will only show in the HALF ad section, so on and so on. Once I construct a screen shot I will make it available here. A working demo page will be followed by it, soon. -
I believe, judging by the date, is when OpaQue was working on server clusters...moving, deleting etc. It's not synchronized properly with the forum database and the forum topic rendering skin (or so). I'm sure once OpaQue synchronizes the next time it should be back to normal. In the mean time, please bookmark or watch that topic so that in the future all our topics are synchronized.Thank you.

Phew... I hope OpaQue does not see my several attempts to resolve DNS as a hacking attempt :PAfter looking around, I noticed that your public_html folder is gone, along with the rest of VITAL folders you MUST have for your web hosting to work properly.I can only assume that they were deleted via FTP client of some sort since your recycle bin is empty. You must terminate and re-apply to re-establish a proper hosting account.

Usually you would use the Process page (https://support.xisto.com/) to change your domain, including sub-domain of Xisto. This would be the only time you'll get a free change otherwise what would cost you 15 hosting credits :blink:Sub-domain changed.
