  2. Installation of a forum or its mod(s) are like installing a software for your computer. But since we're strictly dealing with web hosting it's even much easier than that. For a general purpose installation here is an example how you would install a forum/component.1) download from the source site2) upload the content to your hosting. for Xisto purpose, you can upload the whole .tar.gz or .zip file to your /public_html folder and use cpanel to unzip. this will save considerable amount of time uploading all files3) when unzipping you can choose to unzip to a designated custom folder or unzip to a default folder, i.e. forum4) if a forum requires SQL use your cpanel to establish SQL with database name, database username and database password with proper permission5) follow the "install" link, i.e. your_domain/forum/install and adhere to the instructionA well documentation is the weakest link for most forums. The developers expect you to "know" some knowledge or too busy developing the script that they forget to write a detailed instruction. And when you go for the support they are annoyed by your question. This isn't how it should be; but that's how it is.Additional components or mods are basically installed within your "forum" i.e. your_domain/forum/folder_of_mod or your_domain/forum/target_directoryIf you unzip the mod download and notice the same directory name "folder_of_mod" or "target_directory" it basically means to upload mod scripts to that directory. Or you'll note a TXT file which instructs you to find certain codes in certain lines and replace or amend modified codes. Follow those instructions carefully. Read and re-read for clear understanding before you edit a file. And remember, take your time and do by numbers--first things first and then the second.I have installed many mods for IP.B and I have yet to find a well documented instruction by creators. I hope AnElectron forum and forum mods would take this lesson and incorporate into their teachings
  3. If we're just discussing about PHP programming for IRC, the perfect example is our Xisto forum shoutbox. It is written in PHP and using AJAX to auto refresh at every 15 seconds or so. AJAX can be altered to automatically refresh when there's a new data submitted. So IRC written in PHP is possible but not PHP alone. The standard function of "IRC" is not present, i.e. call function of irc(network.address:port), but you can configure the whole page to refresh when a new submit is detected. But as IRC user interface, the whole page refresh is very annoying. Therefore some type of AJAX is the better way to go.
  4. When you visit PayPal's site you can read more on webmaster's tools. PayPal has made it very easy to integrate payment gateway using PayPal. You can search for additional free PayPal payment scripts or shopping carts but going directly to PayPal would be the best.
  5. Ack so I am now entering some beauty tip discussion, which I know nothing about. The best dressing day for me is grabbing khaki out of the dryer and just bought-dress shirt from yesterday's AX store bag ha ha ha... my girlfriend tells me I'm destined to have a secretary.Anyway, she advises me to match my shirt with my eye-color. She is a fashion consultant and does private shopping for few high-rollers. Her tip is to use your eye color as an accent rather than accessory. She's now telling me there is a difference between accent and accessory. If you ask me, it's way above my league ha ha ha.So she got me wearing all these light brown shirts and sweaters...and honestly I never liked these colors or the shirts/sweaters. But I have to admit I look pretty good compare to typical blue or white. Her last tip is to wear colors that closely match your eyes closer to your eyes. HUH? So basically do not wear orange or amber pants but amber shirts or jewelries. Sometimes matching hair colors to your eyes would be a good thing. Oh boy, does that mean I have to dye my hair to light brown?? I don't have much left...Okay, I can't do fashion tips anymore. It's like driving on the left hand side--it's weird!
  6. Your contribution has been added. It's not 2D only, but a pixel art based. If you think you can draw 3D pixel art then go right ahead. But the original concept was based on SIMS or all others like using pixel drawing style. Thank you for your contribution. Again, you can check Xisto Community Project at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Be sure to play with figures and vehicles for more fun! You'll note that smaller figures were designed to work as a standard for basic modeling size. Figure that is delivering the mail is generally the size I would recommend as door's height. From there you can build the rest of dimension. You can drag and drop figures and vehicles anywhere you want. You must have JAVA enabled to do this.
  7. A URL to the story would have been sufficient. There's no need to fill your post with the quote. Instead contribute with your own words for a discussion. As I have said in one of my posts here, I believe and predict Windows Vista is going to be a failure like Windows ME. I have been comparing Vista Business edition to my laptop's XP Home edition and bar none, my laptop out performs Vista. And mind you my laptop is 3 years older than Vista machine.I cannot believe how much of resources are requires to run Vista. I mean c'mon! NASA sent astronauts to the moon and back with computing powers far less than what we have today. And why does Vista request a minimum of 1GB RAM? Did Microsoft engineers forgot to optimize RAM performance just because the plethora of giga-bytes today? It's outrageous. There's a testament to XP's greatness. If a company like Dell is STILL, and I'll say it again STILL, offering XP as one of the options to their business lines Dell probably thinks XP is better than Vista. Sometimes the demand of people out weighs the need for solid design. And this time Microsoft really failed to deliver the performance they hyped.
  8. How many of you experienced this? You invite a broadband service, i.e. Verizon DSL, and they provide you with an installation disk. You gladly use it but later you add LAN to your home and decide to add a router. You follow the manufacturer's instruction and set up your home network. But this is strange... the computer you were able to connect to the internet just before a home network is now cannot connect to the internet. And according to the router manual you installed the program correctly but one or more computers cannot seem to connect to the internet! The problem isn't what you did but, it's what these ADSL or DSL broadband ISP that requires you to login for authentication for internet connection. The software that is required to install for you to have an internet connect actually disables few key features in your system. The way these "login" script works is that on demand, the software turns on network related services, connects to the ISP authenticity and then let you brows the internet. Although a must needed operation for any PPPoE connection type it's a hassle to fix your computer if you decide to share the internet connection. Here is a quick fix. And no, it does not involve reinstalling your OS or all those nonsense advices floating around the internet. Although the program called Winsockfix is pretty good, here is something you can learn and share. First is to set your router correctly. As mentioned before if you require username and password authentication to connect to the internet using ADSL or DSL service, chances are you are using PPPoE connection. Access your router's setup page and select the type of connection to PPPoE. Most router's setup screen then will provide you fields for username and password. This is for your ADSL or DSL account username and password. Enter them and follow the rest of setup guideline. One key feature is to select on demand connection or connection leased time. This is totally up to the user and leaving it as a default does not "harm" your internet connection. The second is to uninstall any ISP software by going through your Add/Remove Programs. If asked, you should restart your computer. Check to see if you can renew you IP address given by the router. Chances are you cannot. This is due to poorly programmed software by your ISP. When it was uninstalled in your system it did not bother to return to the state BEFORE the installation. Click on START > RUN and type in services.msc You will see SERVICES window pop up. Be sure the following services are in these conditions: NAME-----------------------------Status-----------Startup Type DHCP Client----------------------Started----------Automatic DNS Client------------------------Started----------Automatic Remote Procedure Call (RPC)---Started---------Automatic If your services are not like the above, double click on each service and modify the statup type and status. Once you have done this you'll see that the internet connection is good to go. The good thing about this topic is that now you know a little more about your connection services and how to troubleshoot them. The bad is that you are now free to poke around your system services. Please do be careful.
  9. I received this email after checking this topic. I am on the old billing record. It looks like an authentic email from Xisto - Web Hosting. Since the only thing is to reply to this email, go ahead when you are ready to do so. According to the email sent by the support team only your billing record(s) are to be moved and not your hosting account.
  10. Brian means to edit your CSS file http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is your CSS file. Look for where Brian points and see modifying according to Brian's suggestion helps you out. In order to edit this file you have to have an access to this file either via FTP or some control panel. Let us know how it goes.
  11. I read your post, anwiii. And at first I thought 'read the fine prints' and 'buyer beware.' But your situation is a complete foul and the service you received is egregious! I am amazed the amount of patience you have for this Dish Network baboons! It's a pure violation of your (as a customer) rights.Foremost, I hope your review of Dish Network somehow helps your case. At least I hope the next person who is smart enough to search and find this topic be aware of Dish Network's perplexing promises.I hope that people are smart to perform some research before they are locked into posthumous contract. And realize this horrific consequences and they begin to boycott Dish Network. And by the turn of the next year Dish Network goes out of business! TA DA~!!! Ah... at least I can dream...I have had fair amount of giant corporates' injustices on me. And your words are exactly right: they dismiss the first cry hoping that it will discourage from trying again. And this is a well documented psychological behavior modification. Further evidence is by turning your request down on information to the headquarter is to discourage you even further. It's about the liability. I see it daily because a friend of mine runs a bill collection business. He teaches his collection employees to say, "NO" when it comes to requests like, "I'd like to talk to someone in charge." The person who gets to say NO automatically assumes the dominance in the conversation. My friend is a good guy but he is also a business man. He simply puts, "it's a business, nothing more." And by keeping employees to do the dirty deeds, it keeps my friend free from any liabilities. My friend can always pretend that he gave no such authority; that the action taken was a direct result of an employee negligence. So when an operator who appeared to be not from the state, even the country you live in, it's to pass the blame to someone other than the Dish Network company. And for that apparent obvious reason big, giant corporates are outsourcing sales and support calls over seas--even less liability. The middle man is expendable and replaceable. Speaking of liabilities, Dish Network does not have actual Dish Network installers. About 95% of them are "call" guys from local cable certified companies. For example, say a TV repair business who are certified as a Dish Network authorized dealers. This TV repair business will receive calls to install Dish Network equipments by HQ, depending on proximity. Here is the kicker: there's no real "course certification" on becoming this authorized dealers except passing few exams and having the proper insurance. Again, this limits how far the blame can be sent to Dish Network directly. If any installation goes wrong the blame can always settle around the local installers rather than the national chain. And people wonder why the American Work Ethics are on the verge of dismay... and people wonder why jobs are being outsourced... it's the perfect solution for giant, callus corporates who do not give two cents for American consumers.Whatever the case or however the outcome, keep us updated! Fight the good fight and may you be victorious! You tell the mighty Dish idiots that you are a force to be reckon with!
  12. Excel also features Auto Filter.Auto Filter creates drop down menu according to each column's value. So for example, creating Auto Filter for your table, you can click on the drop down menu and you'll find (All)fredjoeAt the end of your table, add a SUM formula that tallies up the column value, i.e. =SUM(B3:B7). Without a filter the sum of all number in B column will appear. Once you use the Auto Filter drop down process, the same SUM field will only add up values of fred or joe.For more on Auto Filter in Excel try searching on the internet. Auto Filter is the most widely sought out feature but least likely used solution since the majority of Excel users rely on LOGIC formula than filtering process.
  13. It's the parody from the song "Video Killed The Radio Star." I am not too fond of Google. I admit that I am still fighting the influence that Google has over the Internet as we know it. But once in a while Google amazes me. And in a good way, too. Android. The new baby project from Google. This is the hype that Google's been receiving about their "G-Phone." As you can see in this link https://developers.google.com/android/?csw=1 there is no such thing as G-Phone. However, with the new project called "Android" would make the future cellular or mobile phones to become like G-Phones. Android is a new platform designed to work especially with mobile devices. A new open source operating system that will benefit mobile devices, first, and perhaps to all portable devices. The impressive feature about this Android is the integration of touch and manipulate navigation movement much like the iPhone. As you view the video pay special attention to Google Earth programming in the mobile device. The navigation is the exact same movement known to iPhone. This makes me wonder if Google's Android is willing to pay out royalty to Apple. If so, how would this benefit everyone when Google is claiming that it's a free and open source that everyone can build using SDK? Apple filed copyrights to all iPhone features including the hand manipulating navigation system. This means, once approved, no other device can utilize "touch and drag" or "touch and scroll" without Apple's consent. And knowing Apple, it doesn't come cheap! I would imagine huge numbers to be paid out to Apple for sharing or using the patented features on all non-Apple devices. But let's talk about more positive issue. And as I started this topic by saying, "Android killed the WAP star." WAP, as we all know, has been popular but hard to manage and maintain. It required very specific codes to work only for specific mobile devices i.e. JAVA enabled or J2SE capable device. Google's Android will not be requiring special Web codings to be displayed correctly. Android will understand the regular HTML and all standard HTML markups and render any webpage as we see them on our desktops. And in fact, the video by Google stresses this fact several times. Oh thank god, I thought to myself. Finally! People with some common sense! WAP always annoyed me because after all, internet was suppose to bring people to a common ground. But this WAP had it's own form of coding which separated, in my opinion, internet community. You had to have some special ways of viewing special WAP sites, otherwise you had to code WAP pages with circumstances for different devices... ARRRGH!!! Android is going to unify how HTML is delivered and viewed by all of us, whether it's on a mobile device with 320x240 resolution, a personal computer with 1280X800 or who knows a holographic retina projector with eye movement tracking technology (oh by the way, this technology doesn't exist yet ) I can't wait until the day one of these devices lands on my hand. I can't wait until the day a PDA with a screen resolution of 640x480, thickness less than 0.5 inch, navigation style of iPhone and wireless connection that can stay in touch with internet wherever I go. Because I am definitely getting tired of lugging my laptop around!

  20. The main reason for having two identical type of free web hosting services is SEO. Xisto is geared towards professional topics. Therefore, you'll notice that articulating your point of view and proper posting structure are strictly enforced here in Xisto.Trap17 is geared towards gamers and loungers (basically the general topics). Two identical services but two different audiences. Many members find their preference to be in certain standards of discussion. Although Xisto was created initially the first, Xisto followed quickly.
  21. No. Sad to say that we do not have existing graphics for Xisto - Web Hosting.OpaQue and I were working on this site: xisto.com/banners but we got side-tracked. Perhaps this would be a good time to request members' contribution for Xisto and Xisto - Web Hosting related banners
  22. I used Google Sketchup to illustrate a server room I was commissioned to build. The purpose of my illustration was to coordinate the location of two servers in a rack, next to two IP PBX servers, four UPS followed by 24-port L3 switch. All which I was able to mimic with Google Sketchup. Allowing me to draw in exact dimension made it easier for me to place devices without guessing. When my sketch was presented to my clients they understood it immediately. The power of "a picture worth thousand words." They especially enjoyed multiple points of view I was able to create with Google Sketchup. Google Sketchup was not too easy to learn at first but, the fundamental idea was simple enough to be self-taught in about 30 minutes.Although my usage of Google Sketchup was only the tip of the iceberg, the software did the job originally intended. And that's more valuable to me than a program 100 times better than Google Sketchup. Needless to say, I am impressed with Google Sketchup.
