You can download FTP programs online. I use WinSCP, but I know filezilla is a popular one. After you open it up, type in ftp.[yoursite's url]http://forums.xisto.com/ as the address, and enter your FTP (same as your cPanel) username and password.Wordpress comes default with the member's option to login as far as I know. You have to setup the MySQL database though, which is done in cPanel.

I made an addition to my forum today, having AJAX replies and a list of topics automatically refreshed by AJAX. My question is, is this using a lot of memory, or slowing things down? The topics are updated every 10 seconds, and the AJAX replies are done every time somebody replies. Thanks for any help.

As far as I know, you can choose any package that xisto offers, as long as you have the money to pay for it.The credits are deducted when you first order the plan, and approximately 10 days before the next invoice is due.The system is all automatic, all you have to do is post.

Yeah. I'd say that you would need a new theme. The one that you have isn't so different, and the on/off images don't go well with the other colors. They tan color would be nice. Maybe DS-Natural from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ might look good. The syntax code highlighter (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=290024.0;attach=84559) is a really good MOD. There should only be one theme edit, but that theme edit is vital to installation. If you want, I can install a theme on your forum and make all the mods work for a linkback to 2 of my websites in the footer.

What's the link to your forum? If you have a link up, I can give you site-specific support, which is better than just general tips. I can edit theme so that MODs work on them. I have edited 3 themes to work on my site, another is 99% done and another is about 50% done. If you edit every time that you add a MOD, it isn't that much work, rather than all at once. Why would you want to change hosts? Xisto is a paid hosting provider, they just allow people to post for money. Not to mention that they are quite reliable (I have seen very little downtime.)

I think that it should remain the way it is. We would need tons of language moderators here, which would take time to find.

My project site (elochai productions) gets updated maximum once a month. The two forums aren't that hard to keep up with. One gets about 2 posts a day, the other gets about 100 posts a day. All are hosted by Xisto, and paid for with MyCENTs. Seeing as this site is quite popular, domain snatchers might find it if it were to be posted here.

It looks like your site will be very extensive. Have you looked at content management systems? It will make your life much easier when you are creating your site.I wouldn't worry much about the bandwidth and space. I am running 2 forums, 1 blog, 1 CMS and 1 test forum. I have only used -600MB of space (I could easily cut this down to 300MB, but I haven't had time to delete files) and average monthly bandwidth is around 2GB. My site has an Alexa rank in the 400,000's and has ~70 unique visitors per day. Of course if you run a graphics-heavy site, your usage will be much higher, but I wouldn't worry much about bandwidth or space. And even if you start to run low on resources, you can upgrade 5x BW and 5x space for $1.98 a month.

I had a video on there that had nearly 50,000 hits, and only got 3-5 hits from it per day. My current videos (about 50 now, and they average 100-500 views) barely give me any traffic.

I believe that the OP was talking about looking for a job on Craigslist, not looking for a job working for Craigslist. I don't think that they advertise those positions, and are given to trusted members of the project, or assigned in some other random way. I'd expect that you would have to be 18 to work for Craigslist, considering some of the ads aren't in the PG-13 rating.

I'd suggest you look in newspapers and on trusted local websites to pursue employment. Craigslist has many scammers, though there are tons of legit people on there. You won't find many scammers putting an ad in the local paper looking for people to scam.

Exactly what I was thinking. Linux must be gaining ground in order for Microsoft to spend time making such materials and to get Best Buy to send them to the employees. Also seeing that Macs are gaining ground, Microsoft puts out ads with people disgusted at the price of Macs, and saying "Ohh a Windows, and it's only $600!" Unless I'm wrong (which I don't believe I am) Windows has dominated the market for a long time compared to the sale of Mac and distribution of Linux. Now people are seeing that there are other options, and that they can get much better features/security in an operating system that they haven't previously looked at.

I would actually disagree with you with the free domain coming first, and then the top level comes next. I lost quite a lot of SEO value when I spent 3 months on a free sub-domain. And not the Xisto one, a redirect. I got a real domain in November of last year, and it took me about 6 months to get my new site up in the search engines. My site has done much better on a top level domain (Now in the top 50 for a widely searched term, "Disturbed," in Yahoo and Google), and a lot easier to remember. Remember, when you switch to a top level domain, you will lose all SEO value from your old domain. If you want to test out a site before you make it final, I'd say do it on a .trap17.com subdomain before, so that you aren't using up time on a paid domain before you go live. But right when you go live, got with a top level domain!!

I guess I'm not the only one here with an ancient computer. I'm running a Pentium 3 on 512MB RAM, which is the maximum that the motherboard can handle. I'm going to stick with XP until I get a new computer, since Vista or 7 probably won't run on it (without overclocking the RAM). Surprisingly I have been able to run a few programs that require 1GB RAM on this computer, while it only has half of that. The only problem is that operating systems might not work unless I have the necessary amount of RAM.

If the domains have DNS you can link them. You could put them as parked domains, and just redirect them to the main site. I would say go for the top level domain though, since co.cc can (legally) take away the domain whenever they want. Not saying they will, but they can. Co.nr is a waste of time since you have to link back to them, and they have quite strict rules as far as I remember. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ has some good domains, and I started my site off with them. They don't have DNS, but they give you an option for no ads, and they have a wide selection of domains, so most likely your keyword isn't taken already. But in closing, I think that you should just get a top level domain. They make the website seem a lot more professional, and are very easy to remember. And with the amount of posts you have, I'm surprised you don't already have one.

I find it funny that Windows is already coming out with a new OS and yet a ton of people and companies are still on Windows XP, since they don't care for Vista.I'd say for your case, go with Vista since you get all the versions for free. I haven't seen much of 7 to give you a good idea of what it's like. For me I'll stay with XP though.

Let me guess, you have 2 monitors? I always wondered how those worked. I saw a guy on Cribs that had 16 monitors hooked up to 1 computer, all which was hooked up to his stationary bicycle.

Oh yeah, I agree about that. There are tons of ways to work the system, exaggerate an injury, and all sorts of things. People that are legit disabled though, should get benefits, though sometimes it is impossible to tell if they are actually disabled or not.

Exactly what socialism/communism is about. If you don't work/want to work, it doesn't matter, the government will cover your a**. There's no real motivation to work. Why waste years in college when you can work at McDonalds in high school. The government will subsidize you at the cost of people that work.Of course if you are unfit to work (disability, impairment or whatnot), I think that the government SHOULD help you out, since it isn't your fault, and it isn't fair for somebody else in your family to work more jobs to provide you with necessities. I don't mind paying more in taxes for that reason, but paying more in taxes for people fit to work and get their own healthcare is ridiculous.

I don't use it even though it is bundled with Windows. In fact, if Internet Explorer wasn't bundled with Windows, I'd bet that it would go the same way that Netscape went. In fact, most people that I know that still use Internet Explorer only use it because they didn't know that anything else existed to browse the internet.

I don't find it that bad. I would never add such a widget to my website, since it would get used by accident more than on purpose. Either way, I don't mind its existence on Xisto. It is useful if you need it.

I think socialist is a better term for the President, but they are similar enough. The United States will never turn communist. It goes against EVERYTHING in the Constitution, and the process of checks and balances would halt any plan to make the country communist in its tracks.
