  1. It's like saying "You know, this math book has unproven formulas, but who really cares, it makes my equations look nice and everybody's happy, right?"

So you're basically saying that God does exist and that that is a proven truth...

I don't disagree with you. I don't really care. We can both go on our separate ways. Do we really need to know if God exists to lead good, virtuous lives?

Anyway, theology is not the same thing as mathematics. There is room for gray areas.

  2. The world would probably be the same with or without religions. The only reason religions exist is to give the followers something to do and to follow. Humans get disoriented if they don't have mindset to use. I wish there was an "it would stay the same" option in the poll. I would have chosen that one.

  3. Or, alternatively, if you want to use the timer to keep track of some event, instead of a reminder, you can set the following as well:

    Dim seconds as Integer = NumericUpDown1.Value * 60MsgBox("The timer was set to " & seconds \ 60 & " minutes and " & seconds Mod 60 " seconds.")

The backslash is integer division. Basically, 3 \ 2 = 1.5, which rounds down to 1.

To make this work, you will have to preset the Timer's interval to 1000, as well as add a label. Name it Label1.

In the code display, under Timer1.Tick, add the following code:

    seconds = seconds - 1Label1.Text = seconds \ 60 & ":" & (seconds \ 6) mod 10 & seconds Mod 60

This little tidbit of code displays the minutes:seconds. For example, if the time left was 8 minutes and 30 seconds, It would display "8:30".

    Then add:

    If seconds = 0 thenMsgBox(TextBox1.Text)

    like the original program.

  4. Huh. I just figured out something else. By hacking another IPv6 address in the same domain {F0AC:D0B4:0000:0000:0052:3CD4} nd looking through the records, I got the following email:

    To: George W. Bush

    From: Sgt. Stanley R. Wicken

I picked up an alert on address {F0AC:D0B4:0000:0000:0056:9278} on port 2415. A person from the IPv4 address {0000:0000:0000:0000:C038:3434} tried to hack our database today. They might have extracted classified information. I will be blacklisting this address from further access, and if he tries again, he will meet a smart virus that will destroy his computer hardware.

It seems like Sgt. Wicken picked up my traces. I can't hack that server anymore, but I think I can still access most of the domain.

  5. So finally Microsoft has decided to make an alternative to Flash. Oh, goody.I've installed it so that I can view all pages on the Internet. I don't really like the concept (considering they could have just used Flash) but I'll still use it if I have to. After all, it's not like about 90% of the web uses it... like it does Flash.

  6. Which defeats the purpose in the first place.

What I mean is, we try to be accepting of all religions, so basically, it's not one religion that dominates.

Apparently there's something about seeing sex on TV that just forces (what is it, 50% now? I really have no clue, but that's what it seems to be at my school) of teens to have sex. Thinking is definitely not going to happen. A pleasure-driven society doesn't have time for that.

Just like your own arguments suggest, it's up to them to resist peer pressure.

*cough* Nowadays, evidence is starting to show that most don't follow this rule.

Well, at least know of. Even Christians don't follow the rule sometimes.

Any individual has absolute control over whether to dwell in the past or to live in the present.

To live in the present doesn't mean that those events can't haunt you forever. You can just push them aside.

]Doesn't seem like you completed your response, however, they went to Afghanistan to piss off Osama and went to Iraq to piss off Saddam and get some cash. In the end, however, Osama wins by bankrupting the US. Nice and simple.

Yeah, I didn't complete my response. I clicked send before I could finish, but didn't bother to go back and

  7. 1. It seems that there are people are very sensitive for word "religion" and by doing so prevent the society to investigate a problem thoroughly.

    2. There is a problem is the status of American Youth. There is obvious problem in US school. that is the he American school is no longer a safe heave for kids and every year the news show an extreme shooting in school where one students kill many other students and teachers.

    3. Then when people investigate using the scientific approach to diagnose the problem, the investigator has to study the factors, dimensions , corners and status in the past and comparing them with what is now. Then isolate the new factor and put finger on it.

    4. But people who are sensitive of particular matter like religion, instead of making their input and diagnose, they crying and trying to stop others to investigate and diagnose.

    5. Moreover they using a generic expression like "religion is not promote peace" which has no ground and contradict what religions are calling and promote. They also mixing the teaching and what sometimes happened. They forget what happened in the past of war before Christianity. They forget Geneva Conventions and War criminals. They forget how the loser countries were destroyed and their peoples were killed or bought as slaves. They forget how the Christianity called to love enemy and turn other check.

    6. By that approach they kill the original issue. The issue is the American Youth Problems. Please contribute in that. Not only criticized the other diagnose and accusing others to quick judgement. I notice that Qittie deKay used that accusation in 2 responses in minimum[see the response to kasm and the response to saying "You're really quick to pick apart everything" . Then Qitte deKay derived us to Atheistic Site not related the issue we discuss. i didn't see his/her opinion about the matter These sites have their objectives and are not the decisive factors in any matter.

    7. without religions, the sacred relation of sex is changing from the objective that Reproduction to entrainment as the media imagine and influence the youth.

    9. The weakeners of religion, degenerate the respects of parent and obeying their instructions also reduced the respects to the elders.

    10. The weakening of religion affect the early sex thought by the youth in this age and affected by the series and films that make pressure on the youth.

    11. Weakening the religion allowd these unrealistic vilent series and extreme sexual relations and infidality.

12 Trouble in school is nothing to do with the jihad.

    13. Even the principal of eye for eye not mean that the invidual do it by itself. It is exactly what the society in past and governement nowaday is doing on behalf of society.

    14. Crusade is not match the christian teaching but it is reflection to the desire to protect the Jerausalem from the Moslems exactly as you the American went to Afganstan to fight the terrorism.

    1. The only reason we exclude religion from legal and moral arguments is because we want to be accepting of all religions.

    2. This problem is starting to arise in Canada too. However, trying to convert them to Christianity or some other religion is not the answer. They might have heard a different or flawed version from their parents. First give them basic rehabilitation, and then try to convert them. But, don't use force. That never gets anyone everywhere.

    3. Solely using religion isn't much better. Sure, it gets the job done more quickly, but not all points of view were considered. (Sometimes not even God's.)

    4. Well, I don't think religion is the motive of these people. Maybe they want to defend their own, or something like that.

    5. The Crusades were an example of how Christainity has morphed over the years. Nowadays is is being reformed to fit modern social ideals. If it were the "true" religion, it wouldn't have changed over the years, like God hasn't. (One thing hasn't changed, and that is the Golden Rule, which is present in all religions: "Do to others only what you would want them to do to you, or what they have done to you.")

    6. True. But that's not his (her?) fault. This topic has strayed off its original point a little.

    7. Without religion, sex can be used for anything. But if we use sex for the sole purpose of reproduction (procreation), there is no pleasure in it. (Well, that's what God wants, right...) It's not like you really care what happens in someone else's bedroom... respect people's privacy, won't you...

    8. [n/a]

    9. It's more like mutual respect. Instead of promoting respect upwards of age, they promote it both ways. However, children like to get more than they give. You could argue that it's human nature.

    10. Early sex is a decision. Don't have sex unless you think you're ready. If you have overwhelming peer pressure around you, but you don't think you're ready, then don't have sex! It's that simple. If they reject you for that, then they're not real friends, are they...

    11. I don't see how infidelity has anything to do with sex for procreation. Even atheists follow the Golden Rule.

    12. It doesn't? Maybe these people were disturbed by some event in school that haunted them forever.

    13. I don't get this statement at all. Are you saying: "Even though the principle of an eye for an eye is righteous, individuals should not carry it out themselves, and should leave it to God"?

    14. America didn't go to Afghanistan to fight terrorism. They went to Iraq for that. I believe they went to Afghanistan to

    The Mayan Predictions

Ok..Honestly..Who would believe the world is going to end just because someone says it will. Do people not read the Bible around here. Nobody knows when the world is going to end. It could tonight, January 28, 2008 for all we know. It's stupid how people really believe this stuff.

    -reply by kristen

People read the Bible, and they read, "no one knows the exact day and hour". Of coruse no one knows the exact date. But that doesn't keep them fron trying to approximate.

Anyway, I think about 60% of the people here haven't ever read the Bible. (Well, maybe 40%. I could be wrong.) Anyway, the Mayans never predicted that the world would end on any date. They said that the world will undergo a dramatic change of some sort. Who knows, maybe it will come with the election of the new President in 2012.

  9. I don't believe in reincarnation. I believe that when you die, you can go one of two ways:1. You go to either Heaven or Hell, depending on whether you've been good or bad, or whether you believed in Christ or not.2. You lose all consciousness in your first body. It degrades and you begin as another body. Not a reincarnation, but your consciousness will be reset and you will be born in another body, possibly in another universe, all over again.

  10. The radiation filling space is cosmic microwave background radiation. That radiation, as the name suggests, is similar to the radiation used to cook food in a microwave and is not particularly dangerous. What you need to be worried about are particle radiation and heavily ionising radiation. At the moment, I can't find any information about the presence of those types of radiation in space. Also, if they were in space, they could all be stopped with around 30 mm of lead, or something similar. I am sure NASA thought of this when building their space shuttles and other equipment.

I believe he (she?) is talking about the Van Allen radiation belt. The radiation here is much more intense, and would have caused what they propose for it to have caused, had the space shuttle not been protected at all. But, it was protected, and quite well at that.

The Moon doesn't exactly have a lot of distinguishing features to be able to pick out that a location is the same or different.

Identical, square millimetre by square millimetre. You might notice that one is a bit to the left of the other. Although they're miles apart, it's a pretty distant background.

The absolute maximum temperature, on the equator of the Moon, is around 390K. The average temperature is around 220K - around the coldest temperatures in the Arctic. Also, just to be sure, the film from the cameras was inside the space suits - which were thermally controlled.

390 K? That's only 120°C! The film wouldn't have even softened by then!

A further point to confirm the Moon landings did take place - there was a mirror placed on the Moon for use in physics experiments. If the Moon landings never took place, how did the mirrors get there, and how come many physicists across the world can confirm their existence, and their use?

I don't think that was actually placed by the Apollo 11 people.

  11. Wonderful analogy brother! This is absolutely true. Sin has such destructive effects on your life, but it disguises itself as something good. We all need to be careful and guard ourselves against sin.

Sure. I have no problem with calling it sin. Because that's just what it is. But don't try to go the extra mile and try to call it something even worse. Don't overdo it, otherwise you might hear that people won't see your message for what it is and might criticise the messenger for being too, well, fantastic.

But then again, I don't think people really like to be absolutely honest with each other. Then people would say things like, "I don't like you. Not one bit. In fact, I actually hate you. But I respect you for who you are as a human being and that's why I'm lending you 5 bucks." They'd pretty much punch you in the face for that.

  12. It may not sound bad, you get adverts youre interested in. but look at it another way....The post office opening every letter you ever receive, reading it, saving some details in a file and then sending you "targettted" Junk mail to your doorstep. A clear Invasion of Privacy and in direct conflict with the data protection act.

You ever heard of Google? They do the same thing to emails. Of course, they don't do it at the same level; they only do it on their servers, which is completely legal.

I think this is bad enough. But one thing I am confident of is that I am safe, because the Free Communications Act in Canada contains the following ground rules:

The user of the computer and internet connection is allowed, without restriction, to:
    1. restrict access to and from the computer.
    2. modify any information sent directly from the computer to any outside connection, except where this would infringe right c) below.
    3. modify and expect the integrity of any information coming into the computer, except where this would infringe any licensing restrictions that the computer has.

(I'm not quoting this from anywhere. I'm not sure if it's even right.)

Phorm pretty much violates all three rights.

  13. An atheist was teasing a Christian about his beliefs: "Come on, Andy," he said, "when you're up there, how are you ever going to get your SHIRT over those big WINGS?" "The same way," said Andy, "as you are going to get your TROUSERS over your TAIL, when you are down there."

Well then again, they're both joking. It's factually inaccurate that people going to Heaven or Hell automatically get a wings or a tail. These two boys never did their bible study homework, did they?

  14. Umm, the whole idea of abortion is ripping out the baby's brains with a hook or cutting off the head with giant scissors. That's what I'd call being "affected directly"... It's not a matter of cutting off the baby's support, it's often a matter of cutting off the baby's head. If the baby were simply delivered without its support it could live afterwards, and some when given the chance have.

I believe you are referring to partial-birth abortion, which I am also against myself. Not all types of abortion are like that. In fact, this type of abortion accounts for 0.17% flat of all abortions in the US. What kind of world do you live in... a world where partial-birth abortion is the only type practiced? You are seriously miseducated, my friend.

True, but I happen to think all abortions are wrongful ones and that regardless of whether someone's information is faulty, they shouldn't be able to kill others.

That's your opinion. Your opinion is not fact. It may be moreally right, but what is moral is not always just, and what is just is not always moral. (Just like your quote from Hippoparchus [Hipparchus?]. Not everything is mutually inclusive.)

There are laws against that you know. Parents do care about what their children are subjected to. Maybe the younger, more immature Americans might react that way but I'd hardly say the ones who don't would be the odd ones out. Our society's not that crazy yet.

But I'm not pro-abortion, per se, I'm pro-choice. Although no one would ever do that thing about running around naked, they will have that choice.

But the fact that the abortion movement supports the practice so wholeheartedly should make one question the morality of their movement.

A lot of people who are in the abortion movement are solely pro-choice, and would never have an abortion themselves.

"What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right." -Hippoparchus

I see it as unmistakeably wrong that human beings kill one another to cover up their sinful lifestyles and avoid the consequences such lifestyles bring. To save lives I may have to go against what is popular, and that's fine with me.

Abraham Lincoln didn't try educating all the slaveholders until everyone agreed slavery was wrong. He passed laws against slavery as soon as possible. Sure, education is a good thing, but you have to do what you can to stop present evil from occurring - everyone agreeing on everything is simply not going to happen.

Did I say everyone? I only said to provide the education. If they don't accept it, fine, it's their problem. Bring it down on them as hard as you like, but give them the information first.

(Huh. The issue was resolved. Never mind.)

  15. Man has not yet landed on the moon. Here is some proof.
#1 The astronauts could not have survived the trip because of exposure to radiation
#2 The photos were altered: the Crosshairs on some photos appear to be behind objects, rather than in front of them where they should be
#3 The quality of the photographs is implausibly high.
#4 There are no stars in any of the photos, and astronauts never report seeing any stars from the capsule windows.
#5 Identical backgrounds in photos that are listed as taken miles apart.
#6 The moon's surface during the daytime is so hot that camera film would have melted.
#7 No blast crater appeared from the landing
#9 The launch rocket produced no visible flame.
#9 The flag placed on the surface by the astronauts flapped despite there being no wind on the Moon.

    1. The reflective paneling on the lunar module itself could protect the astronauts from radiation.
    2. This is all a matter of contrast: bright objects will bleed out into darker objects in photos, and the crosshairs were black.
    3. Implausibly? NASA uses state-of-the-art technology. I'm pretty sure they had 250-dpi film back then.
    4. There were no stars because the window was frosted. I get this all the time when I ride planes and try to see stars. The window gets frosted up and I can't see anything. Also, on the photographs, you can't see stars because the magnitude of the sun (I think almost -40 on the Moon, where there is no atmosphere to refract it) plus the brilliant whiteness of the astronaut's suits, prettty much bled out most of the stars.
    5. You ever heard of mountains? Even if the picture is taken miles apart, the mountains will look the same, if they are far away enough.
    6. Maybe the film box's outside was white as well. And anyway, the film that they used only started to melt at 250°C, which the temperatures at the moon weren't close to reaching.
    7. It didn't need to. The fuel that they had left at that time was barely enough for 20 seconds of propulsion. They didn't use full power when they landed.
    8. It didn't? Show me a picture that shows that.
    9. It didn't flap at all. On Wikipedia, there are 2 poctures taken about 3 seconds apart that show while the flag looked like it was flapping, it actually wasn't.

And here's also something to think about: Even if these things were there, like the flag being completely still or the stars being there, it could still have easily been a very carefully (right to the last planck's-constant-th of a microdetail) planned-out hoax as well. Or it might not have been. So just because these things are there, doesn't prove that it was a hoax.

  16. AH! An interesting observation. We shall be looking into that. So far we haven't done anything since the last update except blow up a power station on the ice wall itself. We looked over the edge of the world but saw no turtles or any other animals for that matter carrying the world so I think we can rule out that theory. I did however almost fall off. It doesn't seem like it would matter since there is no gravity but remember that the earth is traveling upward giving the illusion of gravity and I would have been stuck there in the void watching the earth fly off without me. By the time we will report back we will have gotten to the bottom of this. Have patience my fellow trappers and remember, do not be fooled by our government's weak attempts of convincing us that the earth is round.

There are power stations on the ice wall? What do they use - negative thermal energy?

Anyhow, I'll be looking into all the coding issues. Any codes you have, send them to me, and I'll decode them for you. Good luck on your trip!

  17. Many capitalize words that are attributed to God for many reasons, but the main reason for believers is for exaltation reasons?to point out that He is the biggest and best. Other reasons may involve the same reason why you capitalize your name: it's a name, and therefore proper grammar to capitalize.

'Well "He" is a third person pronoun. It's not exactly a name. I would understand if the word was like the way you sometimes see LORD in Bibles (I capitalize this because it's a name), where the entire name is capitalized. That I can understand, to not confuse it with "Lord" in some situations. I don't think he (He, by your standard) would really care if his (His?) pronoun was capitalized. I mean, there are no capital letters in Hebrew. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) Did God care then? I think capitalizing one's name as a form of exaltation is kind of weird. I guess it's just a custom among Christians that I don't really follow.

  18. A sense of rejection is the root cause of many crimes, says a study conducted by a NGO. Sometime ago, a school boy who got scolding from his teachers for not doing his home work, thought he was being rejected.

The next day he stole his fathers revolver, went to the school and shot down some teachers and a couple of his classmates. And finally he shot himself. It was not rejection, but just a feeling of rejection and it caused such a calamity.

Some of us must be feeling right now that we are no longer wanted in our family, in our workplace, or in the society. We may feel that we are being purposely neglected, and that we are not given the due honor or recognition. Some others may even feel that God is very unfair to them; That He is so partial and has rejected them.

They try to run away from God. In todays text, we see Moses intervening to correct an injustice done to one of his brethren, and as a result he finds that opposition springs up, resulting in rejection by his own Hebrew brethren, who has seen the incident. This led to his fleeing the Pharaohs palace into the wilderness, isolated from his own people for almost forty years! How painful! Yet, the Lord used this rejection for building steel into the character of Moses.

Today we must also know that any sense of rejection should be dealt with the light of the scripture, in the knowledge that the Lord knows everything and allows them to happen only to strengthen us and make us better. We must not get dejected, rather be encouraged to know that the Lord is good and does only good. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.(Romans 8:28)

This rejection stuff, and reading Scripture (huh, I'm capitalizing this. Not because it's important, but because it's not "important" enough in common language.) is all fine and dandy. But remember, God and the Bible are there the help you through the situation, not drag your feet through.

  19. This is my Opinion interpretation to be exact on your topic :-

God was created to help us mentally.physically and of course to nurture the soul giving birth to religion and so on. For centuries now, people have always used religion to discipline, to guide and to enlighten themselves others.

Now what I feel when I read the above is that the believer is giving up being alone giving up his ego, his hatred, his anger, his grudges, his physical self and embracing his love, his passion (Not to be mistaken with lust), his patience, his forgiving nature, his SOUL or GOD.

And we read ahead deep into the paragraph, you can see that we (humans) are being urged to crucify/sacrifice our "materialistic" bodies while always lust for money, sex and thrives on ego.

Thus the materialistic urges are simply put as the "physical" body as it is not easy for common people to understand the depth of the message.

And what I believe when told that Christ does not power the 'old" creation is simply like this :-

Christ was a man of love, forgiveness and tolerance. If logic is to be applied here then you will agree that a man of love and forgiveness can help a man ruled by his ego only a bit and the rest would be on the egoistic one.

Now what my personal belief in life is that , love all and let everything in life be treated as a step to your enlightenment therefore never making you feel negative about things... This philosophy was taught to me unconsciously by my boyfriend..

I personally embrace my boyfriend as my love detesting the word "boyfriend" as it refers to the physical world of its limitations, ego and expectations but unfortunately hardly any people follow this and live in their trances where they feel that their bodies and minds are the only thing that need to be nourished as they do not know what happens after their physical bodies die, they do not care about the soul who starves of the soul and reaches another body urging it to nourish it.

And I believe that to get people to love and nourish their soul, God was introduced in the picture therefore my interpretation of the line

is that we must learn to trust our soul and let God unite with it and nourish our soul who is impartial so that it can in turn lead us to a harmonious life.

People who sin and then confess, beg for forgiveness are doing nothing but starving their souls even more. They tend to think of nothing but their materialistic lusts, they commit the crime thinking that the Lord would forgive them and let them into heaven...

These are people who deliberately sin and then ask for forgiveness but people who listen to their heart will love God for loving them and protecting/loving their loved ones and not treat him like a lottery ticket hoping for an increase in their wealth and so on.

I personally do not believe in God because I only listen to my heart and soul and do what they gently ask me to do <_<

Absolutely true. My viewpoint is, people are so obsessed with caring for their mind and body, and only a few percentage let out what's in their soul. These are the "creators", the artists. They are the only ones who actually find some meaning in their lives.

Don't believe in God or even Christ because you have to. That's not a good way to go. Believe in him (Him? I never capitalize it, for some weird reason.) because he's (He's?) necessary for you to find meaning in your life. If he (He? I seriously don't understand why people capitalize it. It makes God look fake. Capitalized things aren't objects.) isn't, then by all means, don't believe in him (Him! Argh.).
