  1. So, my hosting application was screened and approved about 5-6 days ago. My understanding is that I then go to Xisto.com/manage and then log in. I do this, and see a link "Check your Installation Configuration (Important, if you have just activated your account)." When I click this, I get a page that says that my account status is "NON-HOSTED." Am I doing something wrong? Did I forget to do something? This may not be the appropriate place to post this, but I couldn't find anywhere else that made sense, as I can't post topics in the "Hosted Members" area of the forum.
  2. While there are online degree courses out there, I'm not sure if they are worth getting. From what I've seen, most online courses have no sort of accreditation to validate the degree. Sure, you might have a slip of paper that says you completed such-and-such a course, but will it be worth anything? If you do decide to get an online degree though, make sure that the degree has some real value, and that employers would be willing to hire someone who has earned a degree from the online course. My personal opinion is that you'd be much better off going to a normal university or college.
  3. Rather than making it a one-on-one sort of date/movie thing, try asking her to the movies with a group of your friends. The best way to do it is just get a group of friends (mutual if possible) to go to the movies, and invite her along as well. Of course, feel free to make sure that you end up sitting next to her. If you're feel like being a bit more forward, offer to buy her ticket (not before you get there though). It doesn't necessarily have to be the movies either, any sort of group get-together is good when someone is shy, it lets them feel comfortable around you without feeling pressured to be entertaining or hold a conversation etc...
  4. Not to say that you're wrong, but why do you think that nothing will change? Personally, I tend to support Obama. I've listened to some of his speeches, read some of them, and I think he's quite intelligent and capable. The whole idea of change... I suppose it really depends on what it is that you want changed.
  5. Depends a bit on what kind of RPG you're looking for. I enjoyed playing Fable, but Oblivion is probably a better game. I haven't played Oblivion, but I've watched people playing it and I greatly enjoyed Morrowind (a precursor to Oblivion). Oblivion is definitely more complex, but since I don't know what your prefer I couldn't give you a ruling either way. Personally, I'd probably get Oblivion for myself.
  6. Hmmm, that'd be fun. However, since we don't know when it'll be coming out, what about a Starcaft tournament? It could be original or Brood War (the expansion).
  7. Really? How odd. GoDaddy won't let me do it like that, but since I haven't been able to access cpanel yet it's not exactly a huge deal. Is there any reason it's not following normal conventions?
  8. Well, since Starcraft is still my favorite game that I've ever played, I'm definitely looking forward to Starcraft II. While Warcraft III was all right, the gameplay felt very lacking compared to Starcraft. In my opinion, focusing too much on fancy graphics actually detracts from the game, hopefully that won't happen to SC II like it did to War III (in my opinion). There is no doubt that Starcraft will be Battle.Net capable, in fact, it's almost absurd to think that it wouldn't be. From what I've read they're also thinking of revamping Battle.Net a bit as well.Blizzard is rare in the game industry, because they don't release a game until it's done. Also, done for Blizzard is a lot different than done for most other companies. Blizzard tends to focus heavily on testing for balance, glitches, etc... Essentially, we probably won't be seeing it for quite a while yet (unless they're just telling us it'll take a long time so that we don't bother them). It'll probably cost the same as most new games nowadays, $40-$60. (My bet would be $60)
  9. Is NS.COMPUTINGHOST.COM correct or is supposed to be NS1.COMPUTINGHOST.COM?
  10. I don't believe there is a "perfect" system. I think some systems tend to work better than others, but in the end they all have their own issues. I'm not entirely sure if are even any true democracies in existence, or if there ever has been. For example, the USA, which is widely considered a "democracy" is in fact a Democratic Republic. In my opinion, a Republic is probably more effective than a Democracy, because the leaders of a Republic are not constrained by majority rule. They do have to listen to their constituents, and follow the will of the people to a degree, but they have the ability and (hopefully) the forethought to not be swayed by public opinion alone. Mob rule could easily be just as scary as autocratic rule.
  11. Because we can. I think that's probably the simplest answer to all of those questions. While "why?" has always been an important question for humanity, it's not one that is easy to answer. Much of what we do is for the simple reason that we want to. While I am personally agnostic, many religions offer reasons for why we're here (well not always, often it's more of a how). I think that free will is the main reason, we're here because we want to be, and we do what we do because we want to. Not always on an individual level, but as a society. We are different from animals because we choose to be different from them.
  12. If I may ask, why do you dislike Obama? I personally think that he could make a good president. Although, if there are reasons you disagree you're welcome to convince me otherwise.
  13. No offense Typomage, but you're just plain wrong. People can be in great shape and not be able to do 20 push-ups. I've known a few long-distance runners that placed at state (high-school) competitions and had trouble with 20 push-ups. It's a matter of what you're body has been trained to do, on purpose or not. Some people are just naturally more suited to different tasks, for various reasons.
  14. On the subject of hard drives... I think you would probably be better off with a smaller hard drive, but at 10,000 rpm. I've only got a 75 GB hard drive in my laptop, but I use an external hard drive to store all my files. You can pick a 500 GB external for less than $150 US nowadays, and they're really quite handy.
  15. Well, I took an 18-credit load last semester. I didn't organize myself very well and ended up failing one of my classes (a math class, which is sad, cause I never even needed to study for math in highschool, and I got through AP Calc with something like an A-). Anyways, that messed up my prerequisites for this semester, so now I'm only taking 19 credits. If I hadn't failed that class I'd be doing 22. (These are the suggest loads too, my school is crazy).
  16. Well, how many can you do now? That's probably a good indicator of how much work you need to put into it. If you can already do at least 10, you may be able to work up to 20 (it will most likely be hard, but possible). If you have trouble with 10, well, I wish you the best of luck.
  17. Well, I'm not sure how much snow we've gotten over here total this year, but there's not any left right now. It's snowed a couple times over here in Bellevue (next to Seattle, WA) and we've probably gotten a few inches total. Where I like to go snowboarding at Steven's Pass has about 100" of snowfall at the base this year though.
  18. Well, I recently bought a laptop from a small(ish) company called M-Tech. It ended up costing around $1600 US. As far as quality/power goes its done quite well so far. If it's any help, I can run Crysis with fairly decent settings. Most older (a couple years) games I've been able to run with full graphics settings. If you're looking for a computer for gaming, does it need to be a laptop? While I greatly appreciate having a laptop that can run games, I got it for doing schoolwork and to be portable. If you're 15 then I assume you're probably still living at home, which means portability may not be an issue. A desktop is usually much better for gaming, cheaper, and you can upgrade it before it becomes obsolete.
  19. Of all time? Starcraft. In my opinion, even though Warcraft III is more advanced, has better graphics, more races, etc... Starcraft still has better balance and better gameplay. Which is one reason I can't wait for Starcraft II.
  20. Well, I don't have a large amount of experience with Linux so I'll leave that part of the question out.At the moment, I greatly prefer XP (pro) to Vista. I don't think it's even worth it to get Vista until it's been updated heavily. XP was a bit like that too, until they came out with Service Pack 2. Once they've come out with the equivalent of that for Vista I will probably upgrade.
  21. I tend to think that anyone who claims to be a computer engineer should understand coding. Knowing how to code and understanding code are different. If they can understand the underlying theory of programming, then in my opinion it's not too important for them to be overly proficient in any languages. Of course, if you understand the theory behind programming it's not as if it's hard to learn a new programming language (or so everyone I've met has told me, I only know C and I'm still learning C++). As far as management positions go, I think it's important for the manager to understand the job that those working under them are doing, so that the manager can ask for and receive reasonable results. Understanding is not the same as being able to do the same job, but it's still important.
  22. Granted, trees are an integral part of the Earth's ecosystem, but I don't think that genetically (or otherwise) inducing them to grow faster would be a good idea. Even ignoring all the problems attempting to do that could create (if genetically) or the energy required to speed their growth in another matter. As far as oxygen goes, most of it doesn't come from trees anyways. The majority of the Earth's oxygen comes from marine plants i.e. algae.
  23. Well, other than the suggestions about tea etc... I would suggest learning proper technique as soon as you can. If you sing improperly a lot it's possible that you could permanently do some damage to yourself. I'm not saying that you will, or that you aren't using proper technique now, but it would be worth it probably to make sure. You could probably contact a voice coach and ask them to explain it to you, but if money is an issue than looking around on the internet or just talking to people who have had formal training would probably be very beneficial for you.
  24. The American debt is in fact about 9 trillion dollars. It increases at just a bit under 1.5 billion dollars a day. If the American dollar continues to lose value it will cause issues for the the entire global economy, not just Canada's. A large part of the issue is that the American dollar has been largely considered the "standard" that other currencies could check their value against. Hopefully, the dollar will stop dropping and any sort of crises can be averted. If not, then it may be up to the EU to use the Euro as the new "globally accepted" currency standard.
  25. Well, I don't know if they're the best choice for getting loans, but they're who I went with. I got student loans from a company called My Rich Uncle. If you do a google search for them you should be able to find their website. If it's a federal loan through them it's fairly standard, but they have a different system for private loans. While I didn't get any of those loans, if I understand it correctly they are investing in your degree essentially. After graduating from your college/university and finding a job they will take something like 1% (I don't know the actual number) of your salary for a certain amount of time. A few years was the case in the article I was reading.
