  1. That really sucks man. The worst part about it is that the chance of figuring out who actually commited the crime is slim-to-none. Do you happen to have full insurance(and if so - are you reporting it?)?We, at one point, had someone that was slashing tires in our neighborhood for over 3 months. Well, not slashing, but sticking picks in the tires. And then later on someone came around once every couple weeks with a BB gun and shot out the windows on 1-2 random cars. It's frustrating. I don't really see why people do it, either. They never stole anything, they did it just to be rude. The biggest thing I can't figure out is why people do that over and over. Why is it seriously worth the jail-time for them?
  2. lol....This is pretty funny. I'm not even going to go into details on this one about how I think the outcome should be, as it's pretty obvious already. But I do want to say that I'm amazed at what children people can really be. Or is this a "Crime of passion?"
  3. How often you should mow also depends on where you are at. For example, in the city your grass must be below a certain height. Where I live(in the middle of nowhere) there are no restrictions, so if we want we can do it once every couple months, or whenever we feel like it.I live in Texas where it doesn't really rain a lot, but when it does the grass grows fast. Aside from those times, though, we only have to mow like every other month. The biggest thing to consider(if you don't have restrictions) is that mice and snakes love grass. To keep them out you have to keep it trimmed,
  4. Wait...What exactly is Eclipse? I thought it had to do with Java? The only instance I've ever heard of it in was with a Lineage II emulator's source code. It's usable with other things as well? And if so, could it also be used with things like books and stuff that you're writing?
  5. I would say that opening a firm really depends on your skills. If you search Craigslist it's pretty easy to find people who need websites made, but most of them want specific skills. As long as you are capable of delivering sites on a timely manner, I think you could make it.I've actually thought about doing this myself, but I am not capable of doing most of the stuff that is being requested...Yet.
  6. I've earned significantly less than you so far..And I have more posts than you I think. I have seen no advertisements yet though, so I'm wondering if we're not really maximizing our chances of income. Obviously trap isn't receiving any either if no ads are being shown. I just think it would help all of us all-around if they did show us the links/ads as well(hopefully without our own link though. I would hate to get near cash-out and be banned due to "click fraud").
  7. Well the biggest thing to keep in mind regarding sites like Facebook is that they are started because of word of mouth. "It's not what you know, it's who you know" is the big saying when it comes to that kind of stuff. The best places to start would be to get friends to join, and help them spice up their pages so that others would be more into joining so that they can do the same with theirs. You do not necessarily have to "beat" the other sites, but rather offer something different. If you put some thought into what you are capable of doing, I'm sure that you can come up with some ideas of things that aren't on Myspace, Facebook, etc., and implement them into your own. That is one thing that will keep people coming back again and again : the variation. If everything was the same, there would be no reason to continue visiting.Hope this helps!
  8. Hey all, I have a question. Being that this is all based on personal opinion, feel free to share how you feel. I would also love to know *why* you feel that way.The question is regarding websites, and their setup. The first part of it is regarding "flashing" a site. I am interested in doing a flash site, but I would love it to be able to account for a large website. I would much rather roll with flash rather than a CMS, and if not flash I will just do HTML.So the question there is...Is it possible to do a larger site using flash, or is it only good for smaller ones? By large I mean hundreds of pages. The second question is...Regarding flash sites, do you think it is possible to get a solid transition between that and a html site? I would rather it not just be an entry to my website, but I have thought about splitting it into a few parts. More or less the website as a whole will have reviews, game strategies, forums, and other information. So I could use it as follows:1)You open the site to a flash presentation, giving a quick overview of the site and it's purposes(with a skip button, if you would like).2)After that presentation is over, it would supply you with a flash navigation bar of the various things on the site, in a great layout.3)If you clicked for example, "Games" > "Lineage II" > "Strategies" it would open up a normal webpage with the strategies. This would be a HTML page with all of the information requested there. It would keep the navigation(flash) bar open on your screen so that you can refer back to it if needed. The html pages would also include a link to "Home" which is the flash animation again. So the biggest question is, how would you feel about a site that worked in that manner? Would it be interesting to you, would the flash be overwhelming? I can think of so many things to use the flash for, but I also want to ensure a nice transition between the two settings.Anyone happen to have any input on it or how to make it work?
  9. I will go ahead and list some of the best programs that I have found/have used then. This is going to cover most/all of the web design process.First of all is the actual html design, which Dreamweaver is good for. There are some things I have been unable to do using Dreamweaver's code creation, but it also allows for custom coding in it. Dreamweaver can be used as a WYSIWYG program(What you see is what you get. Pretty much you just drag and drop things onto your site, and it will auto code it).For graphics, I would recommend Photoshop or GIMP. GIMP is free, but I really do not understand how to use it, . Either one of them is great though. Fireworks is also very good, as it is created specifically for websites. For video, you could use really any video editor for that, but if you are looking to make "awesome" ones you will want something like Adobe Pro Premiere or Sony's program, which I forget the name of.For uploading the site, assuming you are not going to use Dreamweaver, I would go with FlashFXP. It's an easy to use, straight-forward, and fast little program. And onto the actual website itself...For a CMS(Content management system) I would recommend either Joomla or php-nuke. I find Joomla to be an awesome system, with many different features for various things. Php-nuke is decent as well, but I just don't find it as being as customizable. For forums, I would vote for Vbulletin if you are planning on paying, or php-nuke if you are going for free. Those are by far the two best forum systems available, to my knowledge(anyone feel like disputing that?. I would love to hear about something better. Always looking for newer stuff!)Hopefully this is more as to what you were looking for. If there are any more questions, feel free to ask.
  10. Hey all, I've just recently gotten into the whole "Flash" spicing up thing, and I know how to do basic animations and stuff. I'm also reading books on how to use the program, but they are all lacking in one specific area: website design. To explain what I am looking for, My plan is to build a website(for fun and possibly even showcasing, assuming it's decent) for learning purposes.Because this is to learn, I am planning on using my own graphics, own sounds, everything made by myself. I know this will be time consuming and/or hard, but there is no real time constraint on it. I love to learn, and this is a way to do it. My plan is, if I can get good enough at it, and actually enjoy doing it, possibly designing flash sites for others as well. Now then, to exactly what I am planning on doing with the site, and what is included.Purpose : This will be a gaming site, somewhat like a gaming community. The link to the regular HTML version is in my signature, and it's horrible.Things to include : 1)I am going to add a few different links, hopefully on an interactive navigation bar. The links will be "About Us," "Forums," "Games," and "Downloads," at least for now. I will possibly add more later. After all, this is just a starting project.2)I definitely need the ability to add pictures and/or video(things like direct embedded links from Youtube and whatnot). The pictures can be hosted on the domain, so that should not be an issue.3)Introduction screen. This will be used as a loader, saying like "3% Loaded" up through 100%. This would come up before the site, to ensure that it is fully loaded before you are actually able to view any of the pages.4)Of course, the information. I should be able to do the formatting myself, assuming that I can get everything together well. Now on to what I need help with.1)I want to do the entire site in flash(I think....). Most templates have the information in picture files and are just copied to the flash video. I would much rather use the in-program text editor to do the text, so that I can change it easier.2)I want the intro movie to allow you to "Enter," taking you into the site itself. After this, I want it to load the first page, with the navigation bar, and then allow you to click on any nav bar links to take you to their respective pages. At the moment, sounds and roll-over effects are not needed. Possibly in the future. Now I do know this will be very taxing on bandwidth, but it will not be a highly visited site or anything, so it should not be too bothersome. So, on to the big question. Does anyone here know of any good tutorials or books(Paid or free) that will help to learn this information? I know this post was pretty long but hopefully it helps you to understand exactly what I am looking for, and how I am planning on using it. So far every book I've read/every tutorial fails to entertain my needs.Thank you for reading this, and hopefully one of you can assist me!If anyone else happens to need tutorials or books on anything Flash related, you can post here as well, and if I know of something that would help you, or anyone else does, maybe they could assist you as well.
  11. Eh, I've ran into the issue with the lack of Fast Reply as well. There are a few hacks, as the previous poster listed, but I was only able to get one or two to work in the past, and only with the default skins. When you get into the custom skins, it is much harder to get anything to work with them, so keep that in mind.It would be nicer if phpBB would just give all the actions a centralized location, so that let's say you install a hack for one skin, it would automatically work on all of them. It's kind of ridiculous to have to go through each and every one and change settings, test, and keep doing it over and over until everything works properly. My most well liked feature about phpBB is the ability to have all the various skins and for each person to choose their own without affecting anyone else's, but at the same time I dislike how hard it is to get things to work across multiple skins.Or does anyone happen to know how to make the process easier? There have been many things that I have been unable to get to work because the various skin creators use different code in theirs, leave things out, add things, etc.Thanks.
  12. @y4nziI was thinking about this and actually spoke to my mother about it. The more I think of it the more I think it may be a mistake adding it. Nothing beats the joy of saying "HAHAHA, IT CUSSED AT ME!" and doing it over and over.In fact, I think it would be pretty entertaining to keep typing things into it just to see how it mispronounces words. I remember doing that with other programs in the past, where it converts text to speech. On the other hand, the amount of comments may also jump because of it(Talking about the good ones, not the negatives). I have seen many different videos that have thousands of views yet nobody has ever commented on them. Youtube is a great place to hone your skills at. You get the exposure you need and you can get the needed feedback to improve on your videos.
  13. What kind of software are you looking for? You said software, but then you speak of blogging. So are you looking for website templates, or software to create sites from?If you are going for templates, it also depends on what your plans are. What exactly is the site going to be about/what kind of information are you going to put on it?(Pictures, videos, all text, etc.)If you are wanting software to create different parts of the website, are you interested in just free or also paid?
  14. Maybe the domain itself is forwarded as well. I had a similar issue with "co.cc" domains. More or less it didn't work at all no matter what I did and all of a sudden the next day it worked fine. I think the way that it works is like in your "hosts" file on your PC. Similar to this format. 111.111.111.111 http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Where the 111.111.111.111 is the IP, sitename is your site obviously, and foldername is where you are storing your second site at. More or less what it does is when that IP is called, it will resolve it to that web address. That is probably also how your domain is working. I can't confirm that this is the case for you, but that's what it sounds like.
  15. That's a pretty cool idea and implementation. I never really considered that before, but I wonder how much it will help. You have to consider the following scenarios.1)A lot of people(I assume) are like me and always have their sound off, so they/I won't hear the speaking anyways.2)Most of the morons that post those messages would love to hear it speak it back, because they get their enjoyment off flaming and/or being flamed. It could end up increasing the number of negative comments.Either way, great idea as a test. Sadly, I never post comments so I didn't ever notice/know about that until now. Maybe now I'll post one just so I can hear it repeat it back, .
  16. Just like the others, I would say go with Paypal. Everyone knows them, they're trustworthy(Some have had issues with them but what company has never had issues with clients before?), and they're fast. Not to mention they allow many different ways of payment. Not only can you do the bank account or balance payments(money in the Paypal account) but also credit cards and debit cards as well(I think debit cards at least...Not 100% sure on that one). It's pretty much an all-in-one system for anything you need.As for the fees, they are 30 cents per transaction plus 4.5% of the amount sent. It decreases after a certain dollar amount as well. But this is still cheaper than a lot of credit card transaction companies. And most of them even charge a monthly fee, whereas Paypal doesn't!Paypal also takes payments from other countries, converts the currency into USD(or whatever you use) and you can pay via a cell phone. There are just so many options.
  17. My votes are going to be PHPBB3 and VBulletin. The original poster asked about free, though, so it's PHPBB3.I like both because they offer many controls and customizability. VBulletin goes much, much farther though in terms of the information you can pull, how well you can control users' privleges and/or moderators, the additions to it, etc. But it does come at a cost.PhpBB3 is much better than most forum software. I've used many types but none really had the speed, reliability, and ease of use as it. I also like how you can install multiple skins and allow each individual to choose their own without impeding on anyone else's. I did *not* find that feature in VBulletin.
  18. I'm going to have to go along with those who say that it's embarrassing, but it's not so much embarassment as it is awkwardness. Watching it, especially with both parents with you cuddling or whatever, can end up causing awkward tension between you all. Unless you all joke around and then it's okay.
  19. I don't really comprehend how this will work. Okay, so you are able to "hide" a website over many PC's, so it cannot be shut down. But how is this an encryption? Any data sent from or to your PC can be deciphered by your ISP, or anyone else who has access to their databases. Therefore, although the *site* can not be taken down, you could still be arrested for illegal actions.I can obviously see where the whole idea is coming from, but the reality is that it will never be as "secure" as they wish for it to be. Keep in mind that hackers are always one step ahead, regardless as to who you are or how much you think you know.Either way, thanks for the link. I've never heard of the project before, and I will also be keeping up with it to see how it goes!
  20. It's really hard to say what is "normal" and what is not. There really is no way of determining it.From my own experience, I know many people that fall in the category of porn watchers and a lot that never have. Some haven't watched it before because of morals, some because of religious reasons, etc.So really it is just what you feel is right, or what you feel is wrong. Don't let others tell you what is appropriate and what is not, because only you know how you feel.
  21. I saw that on the news as well. It just amazes me at how people can just toss around people who try to help them like that. There was one person a while back who sued because he said that he should have died in the situation, and then he was saved and had to live as a cripple. Pretty much the same as that woman, but different reasoning.I think the issue is that Americans in general favor the idea of making easy money. There are so many people who sue over small things, solely because they hear "You can become a millionaire easy!" Think about the lady that sued Mcdonalds because she spilled hot coffee on herself.Or another sad, but real example is the woman suing because "Mcdonalds made" her son fat. She claimed the advertising and stuff portrayed the restaurant as being a great place to go, therefore her child "made" her take him.
  22. Hey all, just wanted to let you know that I have free trials for Warhammer Online that I can pass out. At the moment I have 3 of them. If anyone is interested I just need your email address(PM if you don't want to post publicly). The trials last for 7 days.Just thought maybe some of you would be interested in trying it out, .
  23. I'm going to have to vote Final Fantasy 7 as the best out of all. I've played all of them ranging from the NES to PS2/3. The only other one that I think can even compare to FF7 was Crisis Core, but technically those are both "Final Fantasy 7."FF9 was pretty decent, and 10 had great graphics. As for FF8, I just didn't like the whole play style. They killed the game with it. There became no reason to grind on mobs, or to work ahead of yourself. Not to mention the magic system sucked.FF12 was by far the worst. The whole style in general of it was just bad. Crisis Core somewhat relates to it, but with Crisis Core at least it still has the feel of the FF series.
  24. I think that Microsoft will continue to thrive. The reason is simple. Most people are too dependent upon the Windows operating system. No matter how flawed and screwed up it is, people feel comfortable with it. It can be compared to the psychological principle that people are afraid of change. Most won't even give another system a try because they are afraid of how hard it will be to use, or what features they currently use that are not available on it. I am pretty sure that Microsoft already knows this as well.About open source...There are and will always be open source programs to take over for the paid ones. This is because many people are against paying for what "should be" free to begin with. The issue is that most of these do not have the marketing of the name-brand programs. What sells items? Not the features. It's the marketing. You can easily sell an inferior product for the same price as a better one, assuming you can get people to recognize the name and assimilate the two together. No matter what Microsoft does, they will be here to stay. They have made their mark. Microsoft and Bill Gates have the recognition needed to continue their services, so people will remain loyal to them.
  25. Well in terms of efficiency of cars, there was a contest a while back for determining the most MPG a car can get, while still being "street legal."Some 16 year old kid managed to get a car to go an estimated 280 MPG, off gas. But to do so he had to take out anything and everything that was not needed. This meant no radio, no heat or air conditioning, etc.But then when looking at the energy from the car, an idea that I thought may work out is...Heat contains energy, and it's pretty much the "trash"(unusable energy). So what about taking the exhaust and using that heat to better recycle it? This would then require less energy all-around, and would also help out a lot with pollution and other issues relating to the heat(such as the cars that pull over and grass catches on fire underneath them).Looking at all of it, it does seem to be "impossible," but then again look at where we are today. Who would have thought less than 100 years ago that today we would have thousands of airplanes that can carry hundreds of passengers AND their luggage on each one, flying through the air? Especially all the way across the ocean to other countries.I just wish I was smart enough to be the person who comes up with the breaking information that finally gets everything to work as wanted. Having the ideas isn't want makes people rich - it's putting them into a usable form, .
