  1. Hmm I am still having MySQL timeouts all the time when i am trying to work away on a few sites in Joomla.Basically its wasted my whole Easter weekend when I had time off from work to fix up a few problems and do a few updates on my sites.I am trying to use MySQL Administrator to conenct and monitor the health of the server but its also timing out all the tiem and losign the connection. When it is up its showing me minimal traffic, minimal amount of requests, a lot of RAM cache hits but nothing too much to worry out.If I ping it its really lagging.Anyone else finding really dire responce times to pings of gamma?
  2. I find that hard to belive..just like when MS said that with WinXP companies wouldnt need soo many support staff )As I remember Yordan one of our DB gurus on the forum has already posted about this and how its a really bad idea.
  3. A good tutorial again there Team Destiny..but can I suggest you should be a bit more descriptive in the text. What I mean is try to explain more instead of relying on the pictures, try to use the pictures to explain whats goign on in the text not the other way round. The reason for this is search engines..the more text refferring to the topic there is..the more "searchable" it is in search engines. Also you gain more credits this way so we are all winners
  4. Ok im still getting email errors..Heres what happs when I use Horde via Cpanel"A fatal error has occurred""Failed to import Horde configuration: Warning: importconfig(/usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/config/conf.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/lib/Horde/Registry.php on line 874 Warning: importconfig(): Failed opening '/usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/config/conf.php' for inclusion (include_path='/usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/lib:/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/lib/php/:.') in /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/lib/Horde/Registry.php on line 874"This is what happs if I open Squirrel."THIS FOLDER IS EMPTY"Basically no mails there at allIf I try Outlook ( my usual route to get my mail) it just keeps popping up the login box, ofc the password or username havnt changed so I click "OK" and nothing happens. This is kinda worrying for me cos all my MySql dbs are copied and zipped and mailed to that address everyday..so i really need to get back into my mail to catch Fridays backups.
  5. Ok well i was waiting for an annoucement here on Xisto like on the trap boards that I posted over here yesterday a couple of hours after the problems started.Ppl have been posting thier issues on that thread mostly. Here are the problems that I can see...No mail at all..No PhpAdmin..MySql connection issues (I use Joomla a lot and on page refreshes it sometimes spits out Db connection errors)..also it took a while for the MY SQL dbs to be displayed in the Cpanel even tho MySQL was up and running..I am frightened to do anything to the Dbs apart from back them up..I need to add content to a few of my sites over the weekend but I really dont want to mess with the databases while they are in this state.
  6. I heard about this a while ago i think in December when the first attacks hit home, but now I hear that the "gang" behind this has targetted WOW players by putting up fake pages with the code injected in it,the user is unaware of whats being done to thier pc.Then the gang are logging into to a persons WOW acocunt and selling off all thier items to make cash! MS have issued a patch for this and it can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/err/technet/security/ I patched myself a couple of days ago and have seen side effects so hopefully its good Â
  7. This was posted over @ Trap 17 4 hours ago, so hopefully not long more to wait. Marky;)
  8. A few months ago I was doing the same thing shopping around looking for a good gamepad, I read some great reviews about the Logitec 2 gamepads but also I saw some bad reviews on forums.I couldnt really find anything in our local city that was any better than the Logitecs so I ended up buying two, one Rumblepad and one normal.Me and my son play a lot of Fifa07 together and Need for speed Carbon with them both, I must report no errors at all, they are very nice to play with esp the rumblepad one cos it feels heavier and more robust than the normal one.One thing that sometimes goes wrong is...if one is plugged and ther other not, when you plug the other one in the first one can act a bit wierd and pull to the left, but unplugging them both and restarting the Logitec software seems to solve the problem each time.I feel also that they are very durable, weve dropped them a few times even dropped them face down onto the joysticks but so far theyve shown no damage at all
  9. Well the first line of code is not correct thats why it doesnt work.A lot of WSYWIG editors clutter code with faults like that one, to me its just lazy code, you could have for instance done it this way. <title>Organization 13: Enter />A lot of editors just end every statement with a "/>" which is fundamentaly wrong! I check every line of html and css with the W3C.org validation tools so that I know that my code shouldwork cross platform. I suggest to anyone making any kind of webpage to check out the W3C pages not only for validation but also to learn more about strict and correct coding. Also look into HTML Tidy which can clean up mistakes in the code and Clean CSS to make your CSS code validate better and in a lot of cases smaller in file size. Good Luck! Marky;)Â
  10. Lol I was thinking along those lines too Pyost, but then again just maybe its true ;)If It is I must say 250 is a rather large amount for us Asta users, how about we lobby for a decrease to 150! and not tell the Trap users about it;))
  11. Ahh this had me interested because I am looking at buying a new drive myself so I went over to the Sandisk website and looked into it. Now depending how you look at this software is the spawn of Satan and shouldn’t ever be installed, or on the other hand - this is great!! It’s going to save me a lot of time. So what’s it all about? ok Sandisk have installed a series of programs on the flash memory itself and it seems to hide the files from you in explorer so you think the stick is empty but its not, the software cant be seen. So what’s the software doing? It looks like the software has a whole bunch of functions that "sort of" run programs that run from the stick not the pc itself (I have done this myself before by loading up a bootable copy of Linux onto a stick and allowing the BIOS on my pc to boot from it, and it worked a treat;) ) so for instance if you store a word .doc on you stick then go to your mothers house who hasn’t got word the software will launch Open Office which is installed on the stick and open the document. There is a list of programs that they have made compatible with their software and there’s some great tools like Firefox, Winrar, Winamp, Thunderbird, FileShredder, Skype, Trillian, Xfire. You can just add these programs via the launchpad add/remove section. There’s even a program that synchs your Internet Explorer and Firefox favourites and can synch your wallpaper also. So it could be a really handy tool if you needed it and they claim they are adding more software that works with their software each day. So why is it bad? I’ve worked as a network admin at a few companies and we have had to spend a lot of time disabling floppy and CD drives and disabling BIOS commands to stop users bringing in "stuff" from home. Then the USB sticks came out, damm we cant disable ALL the usb ports because we use USB mice and the sales reps have smartphones then need to USB do download mail!. I’ve seen so many times virus breakouts come from someone that’s bringing documents back and forth from the office to the pc at home that’s riddled with Trojans etc etc via a USB stick. Another problem is licensing of course people trying to or installing programs that they use at home on their pcs at work that are not licensed to use in the office, Microsoft can be really annoying in an software audit over these things! With this software on the stick it’s now enabling the complete computer novice the ability to run a load of software from the stick that is against the company’s policy and run it from the stick as if it’s installed by the admin. The good thing is I found a link that removes the launchpad software and probably give you more space back onto the memory stick. I would be interested to know how much space you have before the removal then how much space after to see what the difference would be. Good Luck! Mark;)
  12. Continued... Once this is done you need to remove the “installation” directory and all files and directories below it using Cpanel. Once you have done this refresh the page and you should see the site with the default data installed into it. For instance this demo site I have made is at URL http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ this is the live site. To get to the Backend administration page just add “administration” on the end of the URL i.e.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists//administrator/ this is the backend login for you to login in as “admin” and the password you made earlier on. Now the fun begins!! You now have a brand new Joomla powered website!! Look out for my next tutorial explaining the basics of Joomla and how to install new templates/modules/components/mambots. Good Luck and happy Joomlaing (btw I broke this into two post because I found out you cannot post more than 11 images on one post- grr drove me mad wondering why the last images were links and not thumbs!) Mark420;))
  13. In this first part of my Joomla tutorial I will explain how to download and install the Joomla core package. First of all we need the latest release of Joomla, you can just use the version that is included in the Fantastico installer but I recommend using the latest most stable release from the Joomla site. Download it here http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsreleaull_Package.zip Next job is to upload it to your Asta account, you can use an Ftp program for this or do what I do and use Cpanel for this. I normally have a backup directory where I keep all my scripts and packages and then upload it to there. Next you will need to make a folder underneath the public_html folder, (for this tutorial I will make a folder called Joomla) and then copy the zip file from the backup directory to the Joomla directory using Cpanel – This is the fastest way to deploy the package and also cuts down on your bandwidth usage. Use Cpanel to navigate to the Joomla directory then click on the zip file and choose Extract file from the menu on the right. After its been extracted then you can delete the zip file because a copy of it is still in the backup directory. The next step is to navigate via a browser to the Joomla directory and you should see the Joomla installation page. Scroll down the page and you should a list of directories that are flagged as Unwritable. You need to go back into your Cpanel and change the permissions on these directories and sub directories. You have to set all the directories in that list to 777.This takes a while but you can check that your progress by using the “Check Again” button on the top of the Joomla install page or refresh it – the directories that you have changed should now turn green and change to “writable” When all the directories are green and writable you can click on “next” on the top of the Joomla install page. Click next again to go past the license screen. Now the next step of the install routine is to provide Joomla with details of where to puts its data, you will need to jump back to Cpanel and open up the MySql page. First of all you will need to make a new MSql database for Joomla (yes I know you can put it in an existing Db but for this tutorial I want to use a new database) and assign the permissions to your username. I don’t know why but I have had odd errors in the past when using the permissions manager when I assign “ALL” permissions to a user so now I tend to uncheck the ALL box and check all the others – basically it does the same thing but this way I have never had an error. Then you should see a new screen with something like this “Granted permissions on MySql database mark420_joomla to MySql user mark420_mark420” Of course the username will be different in your case! So don’t use mine because it will not work Notice the fact that the database is NOT named Joomla but mark420_joomla this is very important! All Xisto MySql databases are prefixed with your username on the front then an underscore then the Db name. When you have made the Db and given yourself permissions you need to fill out the Joomla install page with the details. The host name is “localhost” and the rest of the details are the details from the MySql page in Cpanel. If everything is filled out ok you should get a pop up window telling you that it’s going to install the Joomla data into that Db, just click OK and it should proceed to the next page. The next page is the Sitename page, this is where you can fill out the name of the site – dont worry you can change this later if you like from the Global Config screen within Joomla. The next page is the confirmation screen which you have to fill out a password and an email. Note that the default admin login is “admin” and then the password that you supply on this screen so you have to remember it! Or you could lock yourself out. The next page is the final page, here it will repeat your username and password and also display the configuration.php information. You need to copy the contents of the text box and open up notepad on your pc and then copy all the contents to it and save it with the filename configuration.php and then upload this file using Cpanel to the Joomla directory...continued below...
  14. Hiyah, Very good but theres things I would change..Pyost mentioned making the main menu the same hover over as the language changing button - yes I would do this also, but also I think the red is to overpowering for the eye. The image your using in the middle..its bad resolution-after all thats the product your trying to sell! it should be as sharp and eye catching as you can make it. You have gone through the trouble of making correct and validating CSS well done ) but..I would use CSS for the rounded corners also and not rely on the Javascript thats making them at the moment, reason is not all people have Javascript turned on in thier browser. Look at CSS play for details and examples of rounded corners via CSS. Frames-why put the google ads in a frame? I think its better in a Div not in a frame. My two cents;)
  15. I Must say that I am impressed too! thats one hell of a sig ;)I used to be in a few CSS clans and would see some pretty good server tracking ones or ones displaying the kills of the players who sig it was etc etc and ofc Ive seen the ones that relay your IP browser version etc..but never seen one with an interactive shoutbox..thats something totally new on me ;)Well done!
  16. It seems fine to me..tested in Ie6 FF and Opera.
  17. I must say that I use this form also, its one of the best ones I have ever found and a bonus for any site that needs a form.
  18. But I must say I did like the tutorial..will be helpfull to others making decent sigs
  19. Notice from Mark420: I have seen the same post here http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?shove+Ajax+Program Please dont do this again! the rules are you can have an account here and at Trap but you must NOT post the same posts in both forums
  20. I never use .png images for the same reason as Pyost has pointed out - I do not run XP or IE7, does anyone know if they fixed the .png problem in ie7 yet?
  21. Lol! Over the years I have seen many "Technical Experts" giving out such BS help as this and ofc getting paid good money to do it.Where I live theres a company that uses "experts" on small motorbikes that ride around the city giving support to people and businesses, I have seen them time and again mess things up soo badly and screw up peoples systems beyond recovery and even worse losing company data because they have been taught to format and reinstall any pc they come across with a problem.I don't mind them too much cos it earns me money when I am called in to put things right that they have screwed up!Its a very hard world to understand for a "lay" computer user cos they are being told by a so called "expert" that this is the only way to fix such a problem, if they take the pc to a shop to get fixed they could get the same answer or have to wait weeks behind other repairs to find the same answer, basically people get scared and give into them and let them do whatever they say is going to fix the problem so they can get their pc back as soon as possible. This kind of malpractice has existed for many years in many different professions, me for instance I know nothing about engines and I have had huge repair bills from garages only to find out a few weeks later talking to another mechanic that what they have done is totally wrong and that the fix should have cost 25 Euro and the fix should have taken minutes to carry out but I was charged hundreds and without my car for weeks as they claimed the parts hadn't come in from Japan yet!The only thing to do is try to educate the wider public to how to troubleshoot their own problems before picking up the phone to call someone for advice, but to be honest most people would rather just let a so called “expert” carry out a fix and to pay them for it, cos like me they have not the time to learn about engines for instance.
  22. @Rid Yes you did overreact and twice infact even after receiving a warning about it.And to use your own words against you.. My views are not racism in any way its called being an Atheist. And as I mentioned before in my last post I know a LOT about religions having being taught for many years (probably more years than you have actually lived on this planet) about all forms of religion not just the Catholic church, so I probably have a more formed opinion on this subject than you.And after many years of study and reflection on religion I have come to the conclusion that ALL organized religion is wrong - thats my point of view and the point of view of many people on this planet.I do not wish to offend anyone or attack them for their own personal view or beliefs, if your happy with it you live with it. Nearly every religion teaches tolerance of others and their viewpoints and especially tolerance of other religions something that you are obviously lacking! I believe in Darwinism in all its forms, I find it VERY hard to believe that someone made the earth and all living things on it I also find it very hard to believe in any kind of miracle, science is the answer not religion! How many wars have been started over the centuries about Science? Zero is the answer How many wars have been started about Religion - Nearly every one one so far... This is what I believe and unless I see direct evidence of the contrary - such as "Jesus" coming back to life or "God" saving all the millions of starving people on this planet and stopping all wars, I will carry on to belive what I believe. 23. You should have really read the rules in the tuturial section before posting..theres enough help there! The reason you couldnt see your post is because the Mod team have to approve your tuturial before everyone else gets to see it.Also we preffer that tuturials are written text with pictures to explain the topic notjust one big huge image with the text inside that-the reason for this is for search engines, they cannot index the image content and see whats contained inside.
  24. Well have you checked out our tutorial section ?The web design section has a lot of tuturials on CSS, as I remember SAint Micheal wrote some really good ones on creating whole sites from using CSS and HTML.Also theres a great list of CSS help sites in the forum somewhere posted by Master Computers.I would have a dig around the forums cos theres a lot here to help you
