  1. ok i just googled this for you Aussie Hardware Sites You should be able to find a link to a local shop to you from there I hope.. I also hope that you lose the ashes again this year ))))))) but i know its a faint hope!!! Marky;)
  2. It sounds a bit crazy..but open the case up and look at your fans..they could be full of dust making them overcook your CPU or GPU.a good tip is to use a clean household paintbrush and use that to dust out the fans and coolers..then use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the dust at the bottom of your case..please do this with the power cord out and the pc switched on so it drains any capacitors..you want to avoid any static dischange so use the plastic hose to do this not the metal part of the vacuum..I know my pc gets SOO dusty inside so I clean it out once a month..my house is messy u see :)Cats+children generate a lot of fluff that gets sucked into my pc via the fans it seems..Marky')
  3. I would be worried by this resonance way of providing power..the great Tesla from Russia did a lot of experiments using sound waves and resonance to move things..he moved banks of fog form a valley with a huge soundsystem playing different frequencies to dissapate the fog...he also did experiments on goats and unfortunalty humans ;( (mainly prisoners or gypsys) on how to break down specific organs with different frequencies of sound..he basically mapped out the human body and what frequencies destroyed what..ever since the USA and the UK have denied working on such things but its accepted that the USA have sonic weapons! they have a riot control cannon apprantly that can hit the right frequncy to disable your sence of balance..yes you could knock down a crowd of protesters with one shot ;(So if you think about this and the scares weve had in the last few years to do with electic transmission cables possibly causing cancer in children and ofc the big debate over the frequencies and resonance of mobile phones..and now WIFI is also being looked at to see how it effects us long term...I think I would pass on any product that allowed wireless transmission of power for a long time till they worked out the damage to living things...imagine being hacked and someone changing the frequncies to make you sick!! this could be a possiblity if this is used...Not all things are a great leap forward....
  4. Also you might want to look at the connection type in your NIC control panel..some ISPs like you to have set up one way only for the best speed..for instance my ISP likes you to have the auto speed detect off and it set to 10MB full duplex..I really noticed a difference when I changed this to the settings they recommend..
  5. To be honest i really dont think this would help-if anything i would imagine it gets hotter! You are laying down plastic in the form of an anti static bag then taping tin foil to the plastic? plastic is not a good conductor of heat...so it will not conduct much heat to the foil..but if it did work..wheres the heat going to go ? from the foil? onto the thick plastic case that doesnt conduct heat very well also?A better way to cool down a case would be to take the plastic lid off and drill holes in the case and then cover the holes on the inside with something to protect against dust getting inside the case..maybe a coffee filter or something that breathes air but stops particles coming tho to the case..Marky;)
  6. I choose Suse 10 for my main OS and also I would choose Knoppix DVD version for a recovery disk..The DVD version is just packed with goodies )
  7. yeah like me ..i was a bit dissapointed with Tib Sun when I bought that ;((I think I might "Try before I buy" the C+C3 release..I am a bit more into FPS and sport games atm..I play AOE with my son-we love the TITANS module..great fun to see these beasts stopming all over the battlefield! Also Im quite addicted to FIFA 07 atm..I went out and bought a Logitec rumplepad 2 so that I can play it in its full glory..man im impressed with the rumblepad!! been playing a lot of MotoGp3 with it too!Nothing can get me away from fifa07 atm..I have won the English Premier Division and all the cups on the semi pro level..then the next season i move it up a level and win the same cups and league and the Champions League All with the best team around - ASTON VILLA my lifelong team!
  8. You just know this is a BAD idea!!What Vista does is not allow anything to modify the kernel of Vista..AV software kinda need to do this to be able to work properly..As usual Microsoft think they are the best in the world at writing any bit of software so they think by doing this that there cannot be a virus on Vista..!! and there cannot be a way round it no-one could outsmart us bright folks at Microsoft! So MS are now the gatekeeper on your pc not your AV or Firewall!!so the makers of buggy OS and buggy Office apps is here to save the world from virus and spyware!! I will sleep more easy knowing this!!So over the years since XP was released ..how many virus or security attacks exploit holes in the XP code? i think the answer is hundreds...If I was a CEO of Novell or Sun or anyone involved with programming Linux OS flavours I would post a bounty on the net...$10000 to the first person to come up with an exploit for this anti kernel thing..or an exploit to buffer overflow IE7 intergrated version which gives you full control of any copy of Vista..Bit like somoen did when the Xbox was released..there was a bounty on that for the first team to get it hacked and running Linux on it :)Ive said it on other posts in the forum but its worth repeating...DO NOT BOTHER WITH VISTA!!!Do you want a slower pc? ( I still wont "upgrade" my win2k for xp cos of the performance hit and the bugs that are still appearing for it 5 years later..) Do you want a pc that every hacker on the planet wants to rip apart cos its runnign Vista?Do you really want to be surfing the net with only MS products to secure your data?Do you want an locked down OS that if bought with the Pc in a new deal..is not able to be reinstalled if you upgrade your Ghpx card..or change Hard Drives?-yes this "feature" was going to be for ALL copies of Vista..but MS backed down last week and claimed it would only be the new pcs that had Vista bundeled with them that would have this turned on..it does some kind of serial number check of al your hardware and if the check fails it will not boot ;(THe only reason I could see for somone using Vista is if they have a brand spanking new 64bit pc that is "Vista ready" and get your own licence of it not a bundleded licence..but then again I hear the way Vista handles 64bit is still not as good as Linux...I hear seperate copies of software like PScs etc will have to be written for this version of Vista..It sounds like MS are making a console OS not a PC OS!! its going to be soo locked down!!Although I am going to "Have" to install this garbage on a pc over here to get used to it and work out the most common problems on it to work out how to support it ;( cos a couple of my clients will be migrating to a Vista platform in the next few months even though I have urged them not to ;(So I would say stay away from Vista at least untill Sp2..and that will be a couple of years in my estimation..cos I got a feeling the first versions will hacked to bits till MS work out what they have done is a huge mistake
  9. Been keeping my eye on this one also..big fan of the series..played just about all of them...thought generals was a bit of a let down but if you know anything about the stuff that went down at westwood and EA then I guess it was always going to suck ;( zero hour made the game a little better but not much..hope they re wrote this one from the ground up. Its always easy to make a game look great when you only show the movies or make a movie esp for the game thats not usign the game engine but some real fancy dancy 3d engine for movies.. Ive got a better demo here from youtube..its shows the gameplay not just the movie effects.. Gameplay Demo Now thats what I am talking bout! looks great..will need 128mb ram and above on gphx card tho ;( Not good for my sones pc ;(
  10. I have been seeing odd problems right now also..everything seems to be read only for a while then i lose connection to cpanel..my site everything..I guess gamma server where the sites are hosted is having a problem..I bet the admins are on to it and hopefully fixing it..temp problem I am sure..Marky;)
  11. Hey Kubi Welcome aboard over here @Asta ..funny cos I made an application over at Trap this weekend also..Good to have some new blood on the forums..Cya sooon
  12. I name the 2nd of December...this will be the day of the FIRST (not the last ofc) crippliing security hole found in the final release...I predict January 20th will be the FIRST (not the last ofc) security "Patch" for Vista..with ofc many of these incidents to follow..Ms have announced that they will NOT lock the copy of Vista down to the pc you unfortunatly install it on..this means that now you WILL be able to to change to a diff harddrive or change Gphx card without buying a NEW copy of Vista (this was thier plan) because when it was announced there was an outcry on the net about it so they had to about face and announce they wouldnt do this! But if your unlucky enough to buy it from a shop preinstalled..guess what? that copy of Vista WILL be locked down!! so no upgrading for you!!But hey its got 3d menus!!! and it "kinda" works with dual procs WOW!!!!I must go buy it as soon as it comes out!!!Yes I am joking!! this garbage would Never get installed on my precious equipment!!
  13. I think this is appaling!!! please all of you stop eating Fish!!I stopped in the 80's when cod stocks were collapsing in the UK and Europe and ofc all the propganda about Dolphins in Tuna nets..The worst thing is about all of this...its been predicted for 20 years already and no one has done anything about it..In Europe for instance the UK and Scotland are banned from fishing for cod in the North Sea..but hey the Spanish and Greeks fish there everyday breaking all the EU rules..but nothing happens to them!! so they think they shouldnt stop..then the Scottish fishermen see them gettting away with it..so they go out too...Whats interesting is the fact that if we want to eat fish (personally i wont ever eat it again..really gone off the taste in the last 20 yrs) we will have to setup up big commercial fish farms to do it..and the only people with the money to do this will be MultiNational companies...so maybe soon ALL fish will be Walmart fish!! I just love a good conspiracy!!! ALso fish in these farms have to be fed all kinds of chemicals and hormones to keep them healthy...just like they used to use in our food in the 70s and 80s....so eating fish will NOT be healthy and nutrious..just quick and easy for the multinationals to breed and sell to you...Already in Scotland theres been really nasty diseases in Salmon farms which has lead to millions of fish being culled cos it was uneatable and poisioness to humans...Good luck and thanks for all the fish (that I didnt eat)
  14. Sure I understand all of this being a server admin myself for many years at many different companies..Just find it odd that the peak time here on this server is around 10-11pm euro time..normally earlier in the day for this type of hammering!Btw any news on the CRON JOBS? we REALLY need that problem fixing soon!!The cron service seems to have gone wrong during the cpanel upgrade. Thanks!
  15. but hey guess what? the easiest and fastest way to backup your DB is to use a CRON job...guess what has NOT been working since the CPANEL upgrade?Yes go to the top of the class!!! the cron jobs DO NOT run at all these days...not a good thing!!!!this needs to be fixed also!!!
  16. Hey guys there seems to be a problem with teh MYSQL service on Gamma..ITs giving a "Too Many Connections" error message to any request its being given at the moment..also I notice that the Xisto hosted server seems to have the same errors..is that gamma server too?On the server status page its listing as the MYSQL service as up and running and ok ..but its not..I think it needs a reboot..hopefully this can be sorted soon..Thanks!!

    Joomla/mambo?

Ok well it all started with Mambo...then a fight between the staff resulted in people leaving and starting up on thier own and they developed Joomla! It can all be learned about here....link Most of the modules for Mambo work for Joomla and vice versa...to be honest my choice would be Joomla anytime...esp when the 1.5 Beta becomes an Alpha release..
  18. Have you tried the redirect service in cpanel? Have you tried deleting the files and folders using File Manager in cpanel and re FTPing the Joomla folder?? If they dont delete first time...change thier permissions to 777 and you should be able to do it then.. I am sure if you did it this way there would be no problem.. You should then FTP the contents of the Joomla folder...not the Joomla folder otherwise you will end up with this http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I use BulletProof FTP and I can open a folder and just drag its contents and drop it onto the public_html folder and its fine.. Then you should be able to start the Joomla install routine by going here in the browser.. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ That should bring you to the default install page.. That should leave you with http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ being able to open the default Joomla template and default content.. Well I have experience also of running multiple Joomla installations on the same Xisto acount.. All I did was make a sub folder called "cms" then I make a folder for each site and each Joomla install like Joomla1 and Joomla2.. SO when I FTP Joomla to the directory - note here to save BW ..leave the Joomla install in zip format...ftp that zip to somewhere under the public_html folder and use file manager in cpanel to extract it to the joomla folders...that was you save BW because cpanel is doing to work for you and your not uploading it multiple times..because rememeber uploading to your site is also causing traffic and that will be taken from your BW for the month. Also when in cpanel I goto the MYSQL manager and make a new DB for the new Joomla site (not DO NOT forget to give yourself all the permissions on that DB..i had some problems with this once!!!!! also DO NOT use the checkbox "ALL" for some unkown reason in the new cpanel this causes problems!! instead check all the boxes manually to give yourself FULL permissions to the DB. When you start the Joomla install just point it to the new DB you created and then it works.. So if you have mulitple sites what do you do ?? First of all I know some people on Joomla forums say its ok just to use one DB for many Joomla sites...this can get very messy (I know from experience!@!@) and mainly pppl are doing this cos their host only allows them to create one DB per hosting account...here @Xisto were not limited that way so its best to make one per site..then it really doesnt matter what Prefix each install of Joomla uses for its DB but remember to give yourself the permissions .. So then the next step is to redirect your domain name to the individual Joomla Installs... https://www.eurodns.com/ to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This should all run fine now. I have used a company for a free domain name of .co.nr get one here http://www.freedomain.pro/ This place is good no bull**** no ads no banners no Iframes...all you have to do is insert a tiny little gif with a linkback to them on your START page...I normally put mine in the footer way down the page so noone really sees it...they seem fine with that!! ive had my site checked by them many times and no problems at all..so you show the ad once on one page and your done.. They provide full redirection and full cloaking of the URL so this is great for a free service to get multiple sites going on one Xisto account...cos you just redirect like in my example above.. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ In the next week I relaunch my Sound of the Suburbs site to a brand new Joomla site with a template ive made and I will buy a new domain name from Xisto - Web Hosting and then redirect that and most prolly i will leave in the .co.nr redirect for a few months also.. Im working a lot at the moment and cant post as much as I should...but I am actually writing a Joomla Tutorial for the forum here, Ive been playing around with soo much in the last 3 months I pretty much know most of it inside out now and Im trying out the new beta of the 1.5 of Joomla so I will report my findings on that soon also.. Ive become a real Joomla fan in the last few months..and hopefully it will actually start bringing in work for me..ive already got two clients very interested in buying sites ive made in Joomla as demos to show off what it can do. Clients seem knocked down by the idea that they dont need to employ anyone or spend money on the updating of content, the fact is they can do it themselves just by logging in as a user and copying and pasting from email...word...notepad..etc and then publish it with one click!!.. Ive got an estate agent really interested in this method of content management cos he had a guy in his office that does all the posting of new houses for sale on thier website..but hes leaving the company next month and no one there has any webskills at all...so ive showed him how easy it is to get acticles he makes in word on the site..hes so impressed I think im going to get a contract to rebuild and redisgn his whole site into Joomla ..charge quite a lot to him because in the long run hes saving money cos he doesnt need to replace this guy who his leaving him...then i think it will work;) Joomla to the rescue!! l;)
  19. wow and i thought IE was the only browser that crashed? In 7 years of using OPERA I think ive seen it crash about 5 times...all in the same day when i had over 50 tabs open at once and it was having problems refreshing them all...On the latest versions even this is no problem for the amazing wonder that is OPERA...Never been much of a follower of the crowd and I never followed the crowd into using Firefox..and guess never will!!!Totally happy with my non crashing OPERA -oh and its MORE compliant than ANY other browser on the market too!!~! oh and safer from security issues....how long wil it take for a hack to appear on FF2???
  20. yes i agree..it should be safe..more and more companies are using torrents to allow users to download big files in this way..Knoppix is also available for torrent download..its better overall for the company cos they upload it and then others seed it..therefore they are not takign a huge BW hit when a new release comes out for instance... Bad files and virus and trojans normally come from pirate copies of software or cracks for pirate software.. I myself have seen a few bad problems caused by somone using a pirate copy of Dreamweaver then searching for a crack for it on a torrent page ...then he downloaded a few of them and double clicked on all of them to try to get the right code...one of them worked so he forgot about it and carried on working... His pc was actually a bot at that point...one of those key cracks had installed some real nasty remote control software..logged him into a secure IRC channel and someone was in control of his pc...all because he didnt have decent anti virus running such as AVG Virus... I use AVG and when downloading torrents it automatically scans the file u have downloaded as soon as it is finished and gives you a warning if its infected..my rule is...if it catches anything dont bother repairing it..just delete the file!! cos theres bound to be more parts of nasty stuff in the rest of the files.... I use Piratebay a lot for my torrents and I must say they are one of the best sites for torrents and theres very little bad torrents on there with nasty stuff piggybacking what you think is a good file... Also I talked about encyrtion earlier on in the thread.....erm yes this is very important to me.. Its not about hiding your data etc...its all about how torrent data is dealt with at your ISP Most ISPS block the default ports of torrent software..we all know that...but did you know they have took it to another level and have started analysign packet headers too? with the encryption options on in Azerueus it makes it impossible for them to know its a torrent in the packet )))) SO you get a faster more reliable transfer..and the ISP is not sniffing your packets )) Heres a list of ISP (not complete) that have been reported to use packet sniffing and shaping on your connection... HERE Good luck and keep on peer to peering
  21. hey Vyoma..Nice article well explained but i have a few errors for you... Ok I have marked things that need to be deleted in red and my comments in green with the actual changes i think would sound better in English in blue..hope that makes sence.. "Western Classical Music has a very disciplined structure, and the music when composed is usually written on something called a Sheet Music. A piece of composition of Sheet Music does not strike much of an understanding to a layman It would sound better written if you make it... A piece of music written onto a sheet would be rather confusing to a "layman". It seems to be arbitrary scribblings on a few lines - but on the contrary it is a well structured written language in itself that lets the composer communicate to the musician or the instrument player easily. "here are two basic things to be known that you need to know about a music if one needs to play it - the notes and the timings." "Here, the notes are written in the order of the pitch belonging to a particular scale (we need not worry about scales now)." "There is a lot more one would need to understand about the sheet music from the information given here" "But at least now, you would be able to recognize few things from a piece of sheet music and not treat it as an artifact from an alien world." Hopefully that will tidy it up a bit and sound better in "good" English Hope it's ok? Marky;)
  22. Hmm seems like we need to BUG the admins about this one!!I will be heavly relying on the cron job from next week onwards...ALso for doing a daily backup of mysql...so i wont be happy if its not running on time each day ;((
  23. Hey Vyoma...are the cron jobs still a proplem?Hows it working for you now?Im about to implement a dynamic RSS newsfeed addint to content module and I am going to be needing to run a cron job twice a day to refresh my content so I am going to be relying on the accuracy of them running smoothly when I program them too. Thanks for the reply :PMarky!
  24. Yeah seeing the topic title can be annoying I guess if you cant read it..Like the other day I saw a topic "Shall we make Mark420 a Mod" I was dying to reply to it ))hehehe
  25. hmm no thanks!!I will stick to trusty Opera and when i have to preview a site for non Opera browsing..I will carry on to use IE6..http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ check out what will be coming up in the next firefox realease and what they stole from Opera to make the new version :PDOWN WITH FIREFOX!!! LOL
