  3. Hey WeaponX, They were considered helpful, but it was abused to a point that Search Engines needed to find a way of not being taken advantage of. Some engines may still rely on this but you'll find anything that is more likely to be correct is taken higher priority. e.g. if the title of your website is about "Dogs" then the search engine will believe you, because that's what is being displayed to the viewers when they go there. If your keywords were about "Dogs" yet you had no information related to Dogs then obviously you just lied and Search Engines can't trust this information. Things they kind of trust, Your Title, Content in the Pages and filename of your page. Meta tags are no longer trusted, other than by smaller engines I would believe but it doesn't hurt to include them as long as it's all relevant to your site. Cheers, MC
  4. There are other things that could determine it as well.If you sponsor the engines, expect them to treat you well.Dates (mofication), if you site is regularly updated. Some sites are categorised by the engines to fit specific areas that could aid the search, e.g. MessageBoards/Forums used to help people. The Engine also understands the MessageBoard/Forums method of stating a problem is solved, so if a searcher is searching for a problem and the engine has sites that has relevance to the search as well as stating it's solved, they will make that an important site for the searcher. (amazing right?)Search Engines are as intelligent as we can make them to be, and even that should be something to be inspired by as they are continuously working on improving it.Cheers,MC
  5. I see a lot of irony in this, for a minute I thought it was suppose to be a joke, although I failed English and wish I had the opportunity to take a class where I could have at least passed an English equivalent paper. (English is my first and only language). I topped all my other classes which shows English wasn't needed (yea right), but the fact that English was more orientated in getting you in a more communicative way than teaching people correct grammatical structuring and spelling. I'm disappointed in the amount of how poor the language is to some. I never understood the relevance of why we needed to know Current Events that had little effect on me, but when you get older, you realise that these events could be used as a starter for communicating with another person. "Did you hear about Michael Jacksons verdict?" etc. To be honest, if I knew that was the relevance of it, I would have at least made some attempt to actually work at it, but I really felt it was pointless and I never saw any reason to waste my time on it. Anything that required Physical, Science, Mathematics and Economics was my main focus, English was omitted, as I felt they gave up really teaching it and focused too much on other things, without correcting the problems they currently faced. If only there was a way to improve this. Cheers, MC

  15. After doing a complete backup of Fedora Core 3, I thought it was time to try Fedora Core 4 out. You wouldn't believe the hassle I had with it, but nothing I couldn't overcome, but I would hate to see someone fall into that very same pit as it's definitely not an easy task, so I'll just outline what I did if anyone does fall into this. My system specifications for this: Dual CPU PIII 1GHz 2GB SDRAM 2 Hard Drives @ 200MB 4 CDROM Devices (DVD Writer, CD ReWriter, DVD ROM and CD ROM) ViewSonic 19" Monitor PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard SBLive with 5.1 Speakers This setup already had Windows XP Pro SP2 installed but was using Grub from the Fedora Core 3 installation. So the first thing I wanted to do was completely remove Fedora Core 3, including Grub from the MBR. I booted into Windows XP under an Administrator account, went into Computer Management found inside your Administration Tools and then Disk Management and removed all Linux Partitions which could be found on the second hard drive. I then rebooted XP with my slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 CD, which I also slipped in my RAID drivers since I don't give my floppy drive any action anymore. Once I was presented with the screen to Repair my Windows installation, I choose that by pressing R and entering the Recovery Console (not the Automated Recovery F2). From there, I issued the command: FIXMBR which replaced Grub with the Windows MBR (NTLoader). I then exited out of Console, placed Fedora Core 4 into the drive and began installation. So installation went a breeze, nothing out of the ordinary from here. I removed the DVD and rebooted the system. Now all I had to wait for was to see Grub in action. Yep, Grub in action... There seemed to have been a problem with Grub being able to run, it overwrote Windows MBR definitely but confronted me with just a Grub> prompt, definitely not what I wanted to encounter, so if you encounter this problem what would you do? Panic, run for the hills, try and boot into Windows? (remember MBR is overwritten so you'd need to redo the above FIXMBR method) Well, first we needed to know why this was happening yet how can you know, so second was assumptions... which you should never completely rely on but in this case, I had nothing else to go on, so I thought lets reload Grub, might have been a corrupted installation: At the Grub prompt > root (hd1,0) > setup (hd0) > reboot How did I know root was (hd1,0)? Well we could issue the command > find /grub/stage1 or > find /boot/grub/stage1 and if it gets found it will show you it as (hd?,?) where ? can be position/partition respectively. Remember there's no spaces allowed in (hd?,?) so keep it tight. or if you already knew your drive position and partitions where you created /boot you could just enter that, like I did. So after I rebooted, Grub was configured correctly and the menu listed all my Operating Systems, booted into Fedora Core 4smp (for dual processors) was confronted with firstboot, and that setup went a breeze too. So now for my thoughts on Fedora Core 4, coming from I never trialled any of the Test Releases. First impressions last, although could have been my fault, I think if people fall into that pit, they won't get out easily as I did. Text-based Wise - Well, this hasn't changed dramatically, and that's alright, this isn't meant to be too flash and seems to have remained consistent throughout, so no point reviewing this part, as it's still the same ol' goodness. GUI-based, The new theme looks smoother, a few additions in the taskbar and maybe a more strategically well thought out placement for items, may cause a little confusion for users of previous Fedora, but I think it's better laid out now, although what I would like to see is more Sub-Directories with their applications, e.g. Games, should be categorised for their type e.g. Arcade, Boards, Cards, etc. Never liked the Default Desktop image, so that was one of the first changes I did. That's just one example, but this has been like this throughout Fedora, so it's nothing new, but I just don't like long lists of programs. Now what is left is setting up your preferences, restoring your backup files back to your system and just enjoying this recently released OS, still room for improvement but I've been a loyal user to Red Hat/Fedora even though there are other distributions that do tempt me to switch I just don't want to give up on Fedora. I recommand visiting http://www.fedorafaq.org/ for many guidelines and techniques and just more information to learn about Fedora. Cheers, MC
  16. hi everyone, in a sense im writing this becouse i want to see if other peaple have the same probloms as me and why life makes me down so much,at the age of 10 i was put into foster care as a result of my mum running away from her problums (drinking mainly and not paying her bills) i could of gone with her but i was stupid enought to say no i want to stay with my brothers one younger - one older,in a wierd kind of way i enjoyed being in foster care rather than being with my mum, life was easier for awhile. the only regret i had was i could take my best friend with me (shep)he was a wonderfull dog and i missed him very much.il never forget the first day i stepped into a foster home the lights where gleaming the place was tidy loads of toys to play with and a foster brother who i got on with from the start "a dream start" .I was a reck basicaly becouse i few weeks earlier i had been guy forking with my younger brother and he got knocked down by a car (broke four of his toes )and it was me who got the blame as i was looking after him.(mind you i did shout him across the road he he )he didnt even make it of the kerb before the car hit him.probloms started to arise when my mother wanted to see me and my father would want the same only they would sometimes forget to turn up that affected me at school as i felt low and depressed ,i in my own eyes new that my parents loved me they just found it impossible to show it,somehow i managed to make friends at school threw being a joker in class ,there was one thing that kept me at school and she was yep you got it a a girl,i wont emmbarras her as she never knew how i felt but if she even spoke to me i would just faint with love for her.i relise now why i never told her how i felt it was becouse i was to low in myself esteem to say what i thought, enought about her now anyhow,so i left school with 7 g.c.s.e's non actualy high grades but considering how i was im amazed i made all seven, i left school and went streight to being a bum with nothing to do but doss,at the age of 16 i left my foster home over some indifferance with my foster perants(who may i say where only trying there best to help me in life but i didnt see it like that),it was over a bike of mine that got stolen while we (me and my brother where in bed)they didnt break in we left the gate unlocked so we made it easier for them,i was gutted becouse cycling was my escape route id go on my bike for mile's around farnworth (bolton lancs) and when my bike went i went with it i went down hill from then on .i left my foster perants who i loved dearly and moved in with a new set of perants .they worked totally differant to my last ones they trusted me and traeted me as an adult i even found work on the yts as an apprentice in retail and warehouse life started to look up, then they said we are going to work with you so you can live on your own ,that i did do not very succesfully and to this day i cant get over being rejected from them it hurts so bad to think they let a seventeen year old lose by himself when all i needed was more time to come to terms with life and things,i understand that they where contracted but i loved being there it was ace being with my fosterdad we got on so well he was like a pal we would go for rides in his xr3i ford which was well ace ,we would take his dog out and play golf on the back of my old school .even talk about subjects that he disliked .i i never did drugs or solvents or anything like that as i was a clean cut from the rest.i think the most i did was get drunk at a wedding at that was only becouse i got spiked in cola ,but they where so understanding about it (foster parents),you see when youve lived in a home (foster) and got grounded virtualy every week for certain things not even bad things its a fresh row of roses when you dont get grounded for somthing thats not your fault (althought i would say that) so why tell you all this when im 29 now, well im still suffering from things that affected me back then ,ive been to couselling and i feel i didnt realy want it to work cos it didnt ,ive not worked in four years as i look after my girlfriend she suffers from m.s .well try. ,and my two year old son who is great but i find him a handfull.at the moment me and my partner are going threw a ruff time and i want to change my fortune's i want to be happy i want to be liked for who i am i want so much but can i make it throught this difficult time, i spend so much time on my xbox and p,c i know i dont give my partner the time she needs from me or to my son,im lucky i have such a wonderfull partner who tells me how she feels .i love her very much.im such a gaming addict i have a very active mind and it needs entertaining but shouldnt my partner and son be enought to entertain me.

  18. Hey Eiyuro,You should use numbers as numbers, e.g.$l_port = 6901;instead of $l_port = '6901';Computers work better with numbers than strings of characters which again are just more numbers to compute, sometimes being more bytes than necessary.Since PHP can store any data type without declaration, it can sometimes not determine the correct type you need and can end up sending the wrong type needed. This could be a possible reason why it doesn't work, but we can't be sure about this, we need error messages or at least determine where our code gets to before it stops processing. You should work on your HTML skills and try to get it up to standard, I don't like seeing browser specific codes used.I'll look at this more when I've got more time, just a hint to produce some errors, add after the start <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); if that doesn't work try error_reporting(on); then remove the '@'s in front of those fsockopen and see if there are errors being produced. The '@'s are used to supress errors/warnings from displaying it to the client (browser/viewers).Try and see if you can eliminate all those errors that are produced, if there are any. It's a good way to learn how to fix your own applications when they don't work, and you will encounter the same or similar errors over the time but it becomes fewer over time.Cheers,MC

  21. ""You lay there crying yourself to sleep, with no one there next to you.Why do you wait and hope? What is it that keeps you here?Talking to an empty bed, an empty room, an empty house. Not understanding where we've gone wrong.Drifting so far apart, it's hard to see.Too close to eech other some might say, loosing the way I perceive.Pain, hurt and love all mixed into one. This lonely heart is aching.""That was really nice one......friend
  22. If I recall correctly, when the script was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995, it really did stand for Personal Home Page/Form Interpreter (PHP/FI).It had it's name changed around when PHP 3.0 was released because this was pretty much a new rewritten language and it wanted to get away from being thought it was only limited to personal homepages.I have not used ASP nor can really say much on it, other than it's not supported fully by all browsers, or it could be but web developers don't design their site that way, or browser developers don't implement it. That is it's biggest downfall to me and a good enough reason why I wouldn't touch it.To me PHP is a powerful language and has a lot of potential, I recommend it to anyone web developing and believe it's a lot better supported and can introduce you into other languages that you may want to learn. What I would like to know is there anything that ASP does that PHP can't do? (within reason)Cheers,MC
  23. A virus went around msn messenger yesterday afternoon sendin the persons contacts the virus and so on. The message that appeared was '*BLEEP*er' then 'you didnt tell me u were in this picture' then a link to a virus download and whoever downloaded it sent the virus even further to more people. VERY NASTY. It stole whoever clicked on it their system info.
