Firefox Hits The 50 Million Download Mark New Landmark ;)
Odyssey replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in The Internet
Its nice to see a browser that hit the market last year take such a popular rating.I downloaded Firefox when it first came out, and I am really pleased with it, mainly because of the tabbed browsing, and it being ore secre because it blocks harmful ActiveX applications.I am really pleased with Firefox! -
Its not that I hate Microsoft Word. It does need some changes though for it to work efficiently.1. Microsoft Word takes forever for it to load and startup, expecially when you have Norton, and it likes to scan when opening Word.2. The addon extensions like Adobe Acrobat pro, which adds to your taskbar at the top, really slows it down especially. If Microsoft redesigns Word, I would hope it would be more optimized, because the load time is just really brutal.

Yeah, I think that might have deleted your Web Folder altogether, but it shouldve replaced the contents of the frontpage HTML file that you are working on. Im not to sure about that, because there are other files in there that are probably needed when you replaced everything

I think my favourite game would be Half Life 2 for the PC, mainly because I really liked half life 1, and always have been a fan of valve's products!

I wouldnt recommend making users login, unless its a private forum. People dont like to be forced to login.Depending on what you are doing, if you want to fully customize your board, I would recommend using phpBB, mainly because it is really easy to skin and customize yourself. Only downsize is that you always have to update to the latest version.Looks good so far!

Interesting what people are getting, it seems like my connection is working fine for me. You probably are on a congested Node, and lots of people are downloading and surfing the internet which slows it down for everyone

This is a useful feature for people to use. I currently use the google maps, and I think its a neat feature.Keyhole is a paid service, but you can get a 7 day trial off of googles website. Also, with Google implementing the satellite feature, it really is neat when you travel seeing where you are and such.

Whoops, sorry about the previous post, moderators please delete it -_-I had several tabs open on Mozilla, and got a bit confused as to which I was posting toWay back in the day I use to use Netscape, mainly because it was a popular browser back then, and then Netscape Communicator came out, and that was awesome. Then IE hit the market, so I use that for a bit, but then it started to get a lot of spyware. Then the beta of Firefox came out - Firebird, I was extremely pleased with that browser, then Firefox came out, so then I made the swtich to it, couldnt be more then happier

No poblem, its always great to help someone -
I was talking with my friends, and they also said that it slows down the computer a lot. Probably not worth it to upgrade then for me

So far I got 30 gigs, and an external hard drive of 80 gigs

Forgot to add, you can always download the current version off of phpBB, forget the exact site, just Google it. The version in cPanel is not the up to date one, its always good to update it manually from phpBB's website -

Since phpBB is open source (free download) hackers try it and investigate if there is any security flaws. If there is any security flaws that they can find, they look around on the internet and find forums that arent up to date. If they find one that isnt up tp date, then they try attacking it.The current version of phpBB is 2.0.14. You can find your version in the Administration Control Panel, on the first page at the bottom. It is extremely important that you keep it updated so no one cant hack your forum. The newest version also tells you that its up to date in green text on the main page of the Administration Control Panel. -
Hmm, after taking a look at Adobe's website, the new features seem interesting. But since Macromedia and Adobe mered, it wouldnt been nice to see a version of photoshop and dreamweaver combined into one nice application

I would prefer to custom build my own computer instead of buying it from any company. Reason being is because then I can easily upgrade a computer with parts from a computer store, unlike Dell, which uses custom hardware
-
for VNC, there isnt any restriction on Windows XP, Remote Desktop on XP isnt that secure though because the traffic going to and from isnt encrypted. If you purchase VNC, then there is an option to have secure (encrypted) traffic.

Since you use phpBB, you shoudl really customize your forums a whole lot more. People like to use forums that are extremely unique with one another, because people like to see creativity! Check out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ That is my forum, and my friends helped me customize to the extent that I would prefer to have it, and it looks great! I had this forum so far running close to a month, and has served me reliable. Always remember with phpBB to do updates, so you keep people from hacking and taking control of you forums! -
I might be wrong, but doesnt Firefox block such things, because it might containa security breach?Try it with Internet Explorer, and if Internet Explorer works, then you know there is a problem with Firefox

Which Game Do You Like Better? Halo 2 or Counter-Strike
Odyssey replied to Phi's topic in Computer Gaming
I think my favourite game would be Half Life 2 because I really enjoyed the first version of Half Life, and always have been a fan of valve's games.I also enjoy playing Half life TFC online, really reminds me of the good days of Quake TFC online! -
Online Gameing? online gameing witha consoles
Odyssey replied to truman69's topic in Computer Gaming
I wouldnt recommend hooking up a Playstation 2 to the internet. I would definately recommend Xbox live instead, Xbox is meant mainly for online play. The only reason I would hook up a Playstation to the internet is to get updates for a game. -
Not a bad messare board, congradulations, you dig a great job!I think it could use a different colour scheme though! Is this all PHP, or are you using a SQL database also?

Which Forum Is Better? Like PhpBB, Invision....
Odyssey replied to scab_dog's topic in Websites and Web Designing
What forum is better? There realy isnt the better one, it really depends on what you are going to be doing with the forum:phpBB - A great open source bulletin board, extremely customizable. Only problems: It is continually updated, so it is more open to intrusion to script kiddies. If you use phpBB, make sure that you always update to the latest version! The next version is coming out soon!Invision PowerBoard - You have to pay for this board, it isnt that customizable. But you mainly pay for security, because there isnt that many flaws with this board as in phpBB.I would recommend if you need security to go with IPB.I would recommend if you want to customize your board fully, to go with phpBBAnyways, thats my opinion! -
I remember the days when viruses spread on Floppy Disks.Well, presently I find myself to be a rather secure computer user. I dont open any attachments, watch what my friends send me over MSN, run weekly scans, and have a virus protection that continually updates itself in the background. And run two firewalls, a software one Norton Firewall, and a Hardware one. Have Ad Aware installed and do monthly scans. Also, make the switch to FireFox, everything is better in that browser, no more browser hi-jacks anymore, or ActiveX scripts
