  1. Its always good practise to scan your computer for any viruses or spyware before entering any credit card numbers into websites, mainly because you might have a virus which logs your credit card number, and can be used for Fraud. Also running a firewall is a must, it will prevent future people from trying to get into your computer from a remote location
  2. There is two Google Email Notifers. One is for Microsoft Windows, which sits down in your taskbar by the system time. And theres another one which is a extension, or plugin for Firefox. If you have problems with either, make sure that your firewall, or router isnt blocking connections to either of those applications.
  3. Well, thanks for notifying us!I currently run phpBB boards, and now have them updated accordingly to 2.0.14 . Also it seems that this problem is with any browser, but I use Mozilla Firefox anyways. Also, any one that still uses Internet Explorer, you should make the switch to Mozilla Firefox as soon as possible, I gurantee that you will like the switch, and to those of you who have toolbars, and spyware in Internet Explorer, you will not notice them in Firefox
  4. My current computer that I own is an IBM ThinkPad, which has been very reliable, but I plan to upgrade to a desktop asap. I find that the hard drive in laptops are very slow.I will probably build my own customized computer with hopefully top of the line equipment -_-Only sad thing is that computers become obsolete after a year, so you have to constantly upgrade it so you stay current.
  5. I currently use Norton Internet Security for a firewall, and let me tell you, it is a huge resource drainer!I come to think of it as its always better to be slow and secure, then fast and virus infested.I will probably make the switch to another type of AV and firewall after when I next format.
  6. Hmm, I would have to agree with Half Life 2 on this one.I always enjoyed the first Half Life, and I have been a fan of Half Life since. Im addicted to Half Life 2 -_-But, also Doom is old school, and I still play Doom 2.
  7. Im not to sure why this topic is brought up several times... But.. I think that Gmail offers the superior email service, with it being over 2.5 gigs of Free email storage.I especailly like the free POP3 serivce that Gmail offers, unlike Hotmail with new accounts, having to register a yearly subscription to get such a service.I used to use Hotmail email service, but until I got an invite from one of my friends, I switched to gmail. I still use hotmail because most of my emails still go there.I would recommend Googles Gmail service to everyone!
  8. I believe that Google would automatically put the site into their directory accoringly. (Im not to sure that if Im right?) The GoogleBots should auto detect the type of site that you have.
  9. Im not to sure, but I would like to also put somethimg of the sort onto my forums. I would like to know the statistics
  10. Well, I do like Nintendo.I still have one of their first Nintendos, (with the cartiridge that you had to keep on blowing ) that I still use occasionaly, and I still like it. It is extremely amazing that they have evolved from the original Nintento, to the Gamecube.I think that the best Nintendo console was by far the Super Nintendo. It was the greatest console ever, with over 100 + games. I still have the SNES, and play it on a regular basis. I think the best game made for the SNES was Super Mario World, followed by Star Fox. Both of those games own so much. I have all three DKC games, which are also fun to play, with DK 2 being the best game. Then I got my Nintendo 64, now that was a fun console, but I noticed that the controllers wear out extremely fast. The best game for the N64 was Super Mario 64, (where you had to collect those stars) It was a great RPG, and was a great way to pass time. But, anyways, I think the SNES was the best
  11. In my opinion, I think that Mozilla firefox is a much more better browser to go with, but then depending what you are doing, IE might be better.Firefox blocks all AvtiveX acripts from running, because a lot of scripts can hi-jack IE, like change your homepage, run macillious programs on your computer, installs spyware, etc... It also has a convient featureL tabbed browsing, which means that you can view different windows in one main window, it places tabs at the top of the page. Aother feature that I like is the BookMarks menu.IE might be better for you, because you might need to run the occasional ActiveX script. But before running anything with IE, I recommend doing windows updates (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx) so it applies all of the latest security patches for IE, so it reduces the chance of any security breach.Anyways, I recommend Firefox if you dont use ActiveX.
  12. It really depends on what you are creating for your website, and the knowledge that you have about web editing, and the such.Microsoft FrontPage is a convienent program for the first time user, it bundles a powerful HTML editor, and WYSIWYG editor into one package, and it even includes tutorials. Frontpage is only for editing HTML pages.Macromedia (Now Adobe, got bought out ) Dreamweaver is a much more advanced web editing program, which has almost all of the formats that websites use, like HTML, PHP, ColdFusion, etc... Dreamweaver is for the more advanced user who has more familiraity with web editing, and understands some basic manual coding.I used to use FrontPage when I was starting to work on basic websites, like HTML. But then I wanted to go further, to work with a SQL Database, and PHP, so I made the switch to Dreamweaver.
  13. Having cPanel is a convient feature for us web editors, or site admins. It has alloweed me to conviently host my website, and forums (courtesy of Xisto) with little to no needing for me to go into cPanel. The feature that I like the most about cPanel are, the Fantastico, because it gives you a veriety of options and addons for your hosting. How the email system is setup, it gives you WebMail access, which is very convienent, and it has a database editor, phpMyAdmin, which I also enjoy using. To the folks who created cPanel, you did a great creation! Keep up the superb job
  14. I agree with everyones thoughts on Notepad. It is a very nice piece of software that gets bundled with all Microsoft Operatins Systems.I use it frequently for my web editing, mainly because I dont want to wait forever for Dreamweaver to load, because I use a slow system.I even to prefer to code manually with Notepad, and with the convient feature of saving websites as any format as you wish, even more convienent. Its to bad that some company doesnt makes a very basic, not a resource hog, web editing WISWYG type of software.
  15. I find that Gmail has changed the way I currently send emails because of the following:It is extremely convienent that a email service provider offers 2.5 gigs of storage, not saying that I will ever use that space for emails, but having a provider that plans for the future makes everyone happy -_-The POP3 access that Gmail currently provides is very convienent for me, because I prefer to use a email client then always using the webmail system. I have a good handfull of email address that I check frequently, and Gmail has made that easier for me. Unlike Hotmail, every new account that you create, it wants you to pay for their POP3 access per year.Another thing is that Gmail doesnt force any type of ads, popups, popunders, etc... It conviently places ads relevent to your emails on the side, and even sometimes, I click them, because they are of interest to me. Unlike other providers that have ads like Dating, etc.. I sure hope that Gmail provides their Email service to the public soon, because I know a good hand full of people will make the switch to the Gmail system. I know I was one of them.
  16. It really depends. Cable and DSL have their ups and downs.Cable is faster, because some cable lines are based on a DOCSIS 2.0 network, which speeds can go past 5 MB/s. The only downside is that when lots of people use the internet and download at the same time, it makes everyone on that node (router) slow down, which kind of sucks.DSL is intentionally slower, but you always get a constant speed, no matter what time of day it is. My friends DSL speed in my area is usually around 165 kb/s for DSL, which isnt bad, considering that speed never drops.I would prefer cable though, it is good for gaming because of its fast speed. If any one has cable problems, I would recommend checking your signal strength into your house, because that was a problem where I lived. My connection kept dropping evry few hours, and that was the problem, and ever since I got that fixed, my cable internet works like a charm
  17. I do hear that Open Office is a really neat Office suite. But I think I will stick with Microsoft Office because it took me a really long time for me to learn all of the features that it offers. But I will try Open Office, and see what it offers, from the looks of it, it seems like people enjoy using Open Office.
  18. Only problem is if google finds out of people are using their email storage as a virtual drive... But not a bad idea. I have enough space though to carry files around, I have a 20 gig pocket USB 2 drive
  19. We have our unique account also for our school, but it doesnt get traced back to anything. Our account is mainly used for authentication to our school servers
  20. Never heard about this version, are you sure that you dont have a glitched version of Photoshop? Theres nothing about it on google
  21. For Remote Access, try: VNC https://www.realvnc.com/ SymantecPC anywhere https://www.symantec.com/ If you have Windows XP Pro, there is a feature that you can enable so you can use Remote Desktop, its in the System Control Panel, under Remtoe
  22. Its amazing what people will do to hack your computer. Luckily I got my computer secured with a software and hardware firewall. Just a few years ago, we never has this problem, and now is a huge wide spread problem.I use Mozilla Firefox so luckily I dont get any security breaches with my browser. And as stated above, make sure that you secure your host file found in C:\%systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc\ and that will make sure that you dont get hijacked.
  23. its storage and bandwidth that makes you wonder how google offers their services. Its something amazing, but makes you curious at the same time. I would be intereted to know right from google how they manage it
  24. please be more specific, where does it say to make a text based game for a website? Im confused :S
