I'm not sure what a callable statement is but the difference between a statement and a prepared statement is the latter is more flexible as it gets prepared and is able to be used for many different types of databases. We all know that syntax varies from database to database and a prepared statement is intended to remedy this. It is also said that prepared statments perform better but that is all I can recall from what I know about prepared statements. If you are serious about java and sql then you should look into this.

I have a problem that I would like to put forth. Suppose you have a large collection of source files for example if you did PHP and your source files had passwords saved in a db.php file. Obviously you would want to protect them from being viewed by others you do not trust. Heres where the problem lies, you could have multiple sites and they all contain their very own db.php files with the passwords in there but you need to share a copy with others for what ever reason. It would be very tedious to copy a folder containing all the files and go through echo one and removing or renaming the password text. Is there a way to do this with a shell script so that you can recursively scan through all files within a folder and replace the password text with a dummy text so that you can safely give to others for viewing purposes? I'm guessing there is a way and I am wondering if anyone has done something like this before or can point it out to me. I could of course go hunting on the web but I want to save time and be guided if possible by experienced shell script writers.Looking forward to any help cheers.

There is no one script to do it all sorry. If you would like many features then consider using a content management system like joomla or wordpress. Otherwise you will need to create your magical script yourself because there is none that exist.

I like the design. Its nice and simple although restricting in terms of being able to utilize all the space available. On my browser I have a lot of empty space 1440 x 900 resolution. Its not a big issue. I think you have done an awesome job ^^

You have to restrict what the user enters or check that what they have entered is suitable for use in your calculations. If these criteria do not meet then you obviously would not want to proceed. You can either do some validation on the index.php with javascript and then pass it over to the results.php but again it must be validated because javascript can be altered/bypassed. You would probably want all your business logic in the results.php and process the entered information there before displaying the results. I do not think what you require is possible with PHP since you do not have rights to generate any HTML on the remote servers page. Maybe with javascript? but I do not know for sure.Good Luck

Hello everyone! I am currently considering building a website for a project that requires credit card transactions. No paypal OK credit cards only. I need it to be secure obviously and I have read a document/article on this about a year ago. I understand you need some sort of merchant account and the setup and yearly cost of running is high so if your website is not selling you will be losing a bit of money. I have done a search on these forums and have not come across any threads relating to what I need so here I am. I would like to get any insight from anyone who has dealt with this personally or know of the process and steps required to set one up. Regards

I seriously do not believe anything I've heard from the bible so far. I cant think of anything I believe that came from him that's been written/told from the bible. There is no concrete fact that prove anything about the bible. You ask me to point out things that I don't agree on or don't make sense to me but I'm sure I've expressed them clearly enough in my previous post. Its kind of going no where as we both have different opinions on what we think is real yet none of us have any concrete proof for anything. That being said there is nothing left to waste as these discussion have provoked thought and it has made me more certain that what I believe so far is probably true.. at least I think it is but I won't bet my life on it if you know what I mean. We are all free to believe what we like and I respect everyone's views. I just hope one of us is right, I don't care because I believe who ever my god is he will understand me and I believe I have no control over things I don't understand. You may think its a crazy way to go about life but there could be worse ways so . In all seriousness though I enjoyed the discussions about Adam and Eve. What would really be good is something along the lines of what Deviantart.com has where everything seems all integrated as one site. We would have our account management area (hosting) and forums appear as they are/from in the same site. Obviously its going to be a lot of work developing something like this and I don't think anyone has the skills or time. This site works as its purpose and the way it looks should not matter all too much in my opinion. The only practical thing we can do to make it look better is change themes but who decides what looks good and what doesn't? I personally prefer a dark colored site with white text but its my preference.

Adam and Eve were pretty stupid then for being near perfect humans. God is in their face telling them how to live and they go listen to a snake? I don't understand how that could be possible seeing as they were smart/intelligent. That kind of grid effect can be done in many ways but some methods are easier and may prove more suitable depending on the situation you intend to use it for. Not all grids are the same right? and there are many factors but if you just want a simple white line effect that tiles to any image size then consider using the patterns tool.

I don't think you would want to go to college to learn a specific language. That is what the books and manuals are for. You would want to go study a formal programs to learn software development and programming principles. I would recommend any software development program and take up a book on PHP. There are papers in certain programs that deal with php but you will only learn the basics. To master it you have to do a lot of PHP programming as well as have good software development knowledge.

Here is a touchy topic I have refrain my self from asking for a long time but it never made sense to me. They went on to have kids of their own and that's normal. I'd like to know what the reason's or explanations are of this kind of activity and how we did end up all looking differently and even different colors today. Please take this seriously as I do not like to joke about any kind of religious and moral issues.

Maybe there is no heaven and hell, Its just stories made up like all other stories to blind us from the truth that we are going to die one day and there is nothing we can do about it.. We are cursed creatures being born with the ability of thought and to learn that we will eventually die and we can not do anything about it. All this promise of the after life is just to give false hope so we don't go insane and kill each other, committing horrific crimes just to for fill our every desires before we drop dead. Maybe its just a form of control for the masses? There is no absolute proof that after life exist and many will argue that the bible is proof but the reasons why they believe it is real is always the same. They already believe in it, they already have faith in something they cannot see. They will point out things in the world that they believe to be true as written by the bible but from non believers it does not make sense or seem logical. I don't believe in heaven, that does not mean I don't believe in the after life or something after death. Its pointless for me to try and vision it as it's beyond my understanding but I know that its better then this world or at least I hope. Why am I even hoping for? I can't know for sure right? maybe its the human nature of hope giving a false sense of everything's going to be fine after you die kick in again...

Thats a nice and unrealistic way to look at life. Sure you want to do things that make you happy but everything has its downside and if you over do it then you are asking for trouble. Drugs, alcohol make people happy apparently but do we all recommend it an activity? I think not. The same is with gaming it's no excuse to do anything just because it makes you happy you have to look at the side effects. I have three kids and I'm not happy, what would make me happy is to dump them to their mum and run away. I hope you get the point.

Yes it does seem really silly that someone can get any level of satisfaction out of bullying someone online. I don't know to what extent some of the bullying can get to but I've only been exposed to people trying to insult me in an online game LOL. I see that as just a pathetic attempt for the other person to make them selves feel better by putting you down. I don't personally let it affect me at all. I would be concerned if you took what people said to you on the internet seriously. Kids are more likely to take insults more personally so it's possible they are really being victimized in this way. I think the only solution is for parents to educate their kids and bring up their self esteem so that these types of cyber bullying is just ignored. You cannot get ride of it since its so easy to hide behind a screen and say what you like.

Nice topic, Although I think having a topic that users post about their everyday life is too much I still think it helps the users here learn more about each other. I use to go to another forum before and they had a new topic made each week similar to this one. The idea was to share with everyone what you did during that week, what you accomplished. This was really a great idea and I thought about starting one up here at Xisto. It makes getting to know each member much easier without having to ask and you get to brag about your accomplishments.Anyway here's what I did today. Woke up at 8am and had a quick shower then coffee. I went to catch the bus to university but it was almost 1 hour late. I went into my old software engineering class to talk to new students of the paper about my experiences from doing that paper. Had lunch after then went to my algebra class. Now I'm at the library trying to get a head start in my research and development project for my final year at university.

The games (video games) are just luxury things in my opinion. You don't need it to develop any skills you cannot do else where. Humans have been living without video games for most of our existence. Today's generation are growing up too dependent on it and make up lame excuses just to justify them being able to play them. Things like "I'm bored", "There is nothing to do", "Everything else is boring" are all too common from my little 9 year old brother. Hes become so addicted that I have told him hes not allowed to play on the computer until his grade changes as well as his attitude. I've been an addict to games but I should know better. Games really are for kids. There is so much else to do in life that has longer lasting value its crazy to think we spend so much time on them. Time wasted away and never to be regain again.

Not bad but to be frank you need to refine your work further. I'm assuming your just starting out so its not a bad overall design for all of them but they still lack any wow factor in my opinion. It still looks amateurish in my eyes no offense intended. I would not call them template technically because they are more accurately described as designs. Templates are working/implemented designs that have been put to use. i.e all images of design are split up and HTML code is written appropriately to contain the design. I could be wrong but thats how I see templates as. Anyhow keep at what your doing and you'll always get better. Learn about design principles/guidelines as well as it will help you in your future creations.Edit: Sorry my bad they are templates since they are in use. I just checked out your site. I thought they were just initial designs.

I've quit and come back so many times its not funny. I just removed war craft 3 (for Dota) this morning since my semester started yesterday. I no longer will be playing it during my studies but who knows if I get bored enough I will probably play again. The key here is to stay busy and not get bored.

Good and Evil are just words we as humans use to try and describe something like everything else in this world. Its left up to the people using the words to interpret its meaning but not everyone will agree all the time where one applies over the other if any at all. I'm sure everyone can all agree though that when presented with both extremes you can distinguish what is what without much confusion. You don't even have to name what it is but you know what it is so in that sense I think it does exist, we just don't know how to describe it in a language where everyone all understands its meaning.

Some nice pictures you have there. Could you explain the process and equipment you have used to get that kind of picture and effect? I know nothing at all about photography.
