  1. Interesting topic, especially during a time when the government is bombarding us with information about all the various strains of flu out there trying to kill us. I have wondered myself about the true needs of all these vaccinations, etc. Having a good working knowledge of the immune system as it relates to canines, and I susupect is greatly simular in humans, I question the need for yearly flu shots and suspect that there may well be some underlying cause for the push to inoculate on a yearly basis. In general, the bodies own immune system builds it's defences when one is exposed to the virus. Those defence mechinisims go to work wether the viruses are those in the shot or that are picked up threw exposure to other infected humans. There is no scientific research that proves that once they are established, these antibioties leave the system in the space of a year. Actually, there is much evidence to the contrary, as in the case to tetnus. Now it is recomended that you only need a tetnus shot once every 10 years or so. I personally do not now, or have I ever had a flu shot of the human variety. One year however, I did get innoculated with a bit of kennel cough vaccine, I was attempting to adminsiter it to a pup, the puppy jerked away and the syringe went somersaulting threw the air and stuck in my chest. Oddly enough, I made it threw that winter without a single sniffle or sick day of any kind. I really don't get sick all that often. If I do, it's usually a cold or bronchial related ailment. Don't know if I've ever even had the flu, I may have but since I'm not likely to go to the doctor, I have no idea for sure what I have. I honestly have been afraid to get the flu shots. I do know that reactions to any vaccine are possible. While they may be uncommon, I would hate to be that one in a million that did have the reaction and croaked over a flu shot. Since it isn't a big problem with getting sick for me, I have chosen to take a pass on the vaccination.
  2. You know I must be desperate for hosting credits when I start giving dating advise!!! That's just not healthy. You need to get out and join the real world. Granted, it's tough when you move to a new country, but it is just something that life has handed you and it's a leasson for you to learn. Apparently this young girl helped you do that. You also mentioned that you can and have controled the sex urges, and that is great. So....if you can deal with the relationship as a non sexual one, I see no reason for you to avoid this girl, if you both enjoy each others company. Good friends aren't all that easy to find. Understanding the limits to a relationship and taking advantage of the parts you can have. And who knows will happen on down the road when she comes of age.
  3. Chinese Crested are nice little dogs, is your brothers dog a hairless, or what they call powder puff? They have a sweet, affectionate personality. And of course, the hairless varieties are obviously non shedding. (hard to shed if there isn't any hair) They are however, one breed I won't raise. It is unfortunate that the breed is rather uncommon, and the general public hasn't got a clue as to what they are. I would be afraid of having visitors to the kennel see them and not knowing what they are, they would beat a fast and straight track to the nearest law inforcement agency and turn me in thinking my dogs were mangy and hairless.
  4. If you could pick any celebrity that you could actually go and meet, actually sit down and have dinner with and a nice visit, who would it be? I think my choice would be Steven King. My curiosity burns! What would a person be like in real life that could write the strange/freaky/weird type of stories this guy writes??? Wonder if he is just absolutely normal or very very strange?
  5. What!?!?!?!?! I haven't been to a movie in ages, do they actually search your bags before they let you in????? That's nuts! If I want to bring in my own candy that's my dam business not theirs. And I'm sure not going to let them look in any bag of mine just to go see a show.
  6. Even a homebody cat can develope a case of wanderlust, all it takes is a female cat in heat somewhere within a several mile circle. If you cat wasn't neutered, even after months of hanging out at home, the urge can strike. Most areas have a feral cat population, perhaps a female passed threw close enough for him to get a whiff. What happened after wandering off one can never tell for sure, there are far too many hazzards out there in the wild. Sorry you lost the boy. Although we may have a few poisonous snakes about, the most deadly animal in my yard, (actually, the goat pasture) would have to be my Komondor dogs. They are a unique breed, they forsake the company of their own kind (other dogs) for the company of sheep or goats, or any other livestock. They pretty much will kill anything that comes into the territory of their goats. Stray dogs, coyotes, mountain lions, even any humans foolish enough to trespass. Fortunatly, they like me. But anything else out there is fair game for them.
  7. Since I am a big Sci Fi fan, right now the best show on is Fringe. The actor that plays the old mad scientist is a great actor, it's hard to believe a normal sane person could do that good of a job of acting crazy but he does it really well. I agree with one of the other posters, Hero's was good when it started but has gone down hill in subsequent seasons. Supernatural is not too bad. I was looking forward to the remake of V, but they put it on opposite of another show we like so I haven't got to see any of it yet. Of course, I like Goast Whisperer, and Medium. Especially medium, I feel sorry for Joe, the husband, it wasn't bad enough he had to deal with his wifes dreams and resulting problems, but now all of his daughters are showing signs of having those type of talants, I think the poor guy is in for a rough ride, lol!About the only non sci fi show I like is NCIS. I love the cast on that show, especially Abbey, the actors are good and work really well together. There hasn't been a sit com on tv I've liked for a long time, back about Grace underfire was the last really good one, but I do get an occasional chuckle out of My Name is Earl, it's definatly red neck humor.
  8. Sorry, not my idea of a joy ride. I decided years ago that I didn't want to get any higher off the ground than my horse could throw me. Having landed from that elevation on numerous occasions, I came to the conclusion that that was definatly high enough to be off the ground.
  9. I wonder if anybody could invent much of anything at all that couldn?t be abused by some one some way? Hiding information doesn?t work either, if the information is out there, and somebody wants it bad enough, they will find it. Not really a point in hiding anything. Keeping information from people who it would benefit is not right. But as long as there are crazy people in the world, (and I sure don?t see that changing) there is always the possibility for abuse. We can?t stop advancing science and technology for fear of the wrongs some idiot could do with the advancements. As in your example, what a wonderful thing a cure for cancer would be! How could we not want that? This disease causes untold suffering and any chance at eliminating it should be considered.
  10. Both of course! In this household, we go to the extreme of taking turns. The dreaded question here is, "Is it my night to cook?" Sometimes if we eat dinner out, we tend to loose track. If it was up to me, I'd let my better half do all the cooking, but I suspect he might not go for that. Both of us are decent cooks, so that's not a problem. Now, if I could just get him to do his half of the cleaning up afterwards.........In a family situation with children in the home, it should be a lesson for the parents to give their children about sharing responsibilities. Lot's of life's lessons can be learned in the kitchen. Just learning how to cook is only the tip of the iceburg. Lessons about sharing responsibilites, teamwork, management, asigning chores, proper nutrition, heck, even lessons in demorcracy, vote for spinach or lima beans, all can be learned as the entire family gets together to produce the family dinner.
  11. That, without a doubt, would be embarrasing. But it could of been worse. Imagine the punishment your friends would of dolled out for the next few weeks if it had been a video of you doing something really corney, like the video's parents take of their childrens early birthday parties where they are stuffing cake in their faces, or kissing the family dog or some such other child like foolishness. At least your teacher was cool about it and didn't flunk you or march you off to the principals office and kick you out of school!
  12. There is a defrag for the brain, it's called Alzheimer?s disease! Even just general old age works pretty good, after it gets so full, I expect the brain starts culling files on it's own, it's just too bad we don't have more control over what gets deleted. Now where did I put my glasses..........................
  13. As awiii mentioned, that has already happened, especially in the car industry. Robots work the assemply lines, it's great for the companies, no hourly wages, no need for health car benifits, no going on strike. Not all bad for the workers, actually may create some jobs, after all, somebody has to build the robots, program them, and I suppose even robots need the occasional lube job. Robots can do some jobs that would be of great benifit to human life, the bomb defusing ones spring to mind, who in their right mind would want to take the risk of being blown up if they didn't have to? I guess this evolution will just continue. Back 100 years or so ago, instead of robots we were worrying about how the manufactoring of cars would cause unemployment to all the buggy whip manufactors. We have to adapt to the changes and learn new skills, there is always some nitch one can find for one's self.
  14. In case any of you missed the news last night, they have discovered water on the moon! How cool is that? After all these years of thinking it was just one big hunk of rock!
  15. Not only the dumbest name, but the dumbest web site also was one which I don't think is still even on line anymore was Bonzi Kitty. It was a site with complete instruction on how to grow a kitten inside a small glass container. Of course, it was bogus, but the animal rights people went insane over it. For a hoax, the site builder went threw a lot of effort, there were photographs of kittens in weird positions growing in the various bottles, photoshopped of course, and really detailed information on feeding and growing it. Really pretty funny, but not everyone saw the humor in it.
  16. LOL, now that is funny! And I thought my connection speed was bad!I have satalite now, but when my contract runs out I was thinking about going to DSL. Know it's slower, but SO much cheaper. We live in a rural area, and I have always complained about our mail delivery system, I swear it would be faster if we went back to the pony express. We are so far out in the sticks it takes 3 days to get an overnight here!
  17. I'm not real up to speed on the Catholic religon, but I don't believe they believe in any type of birth control either. So that would not of helped. When I read your topic title I was wondering how on earth they could fire a woman for something like that, but with it being a Catholic school, I understand now. Don't get me wroung, I am all for individual freedom and the right to do as we believe. However, when you expect those freedoms, you can't be the only one to have freedom. The parents of the children being taught in that school should have the freedom to have their children brought up in the manner that they believe is the best moral standings for their children. See, they have that right and freedom too. Don't they? It is the way they believe, and since they enrolled their children in that school and are actually paying for that privledge, they should have the right to have their children in a clean, and wholesome enviornment. So yes, they did have the right to fire her. Actually, if they hadn't what would they be teaching the children???? Break the rules, and so what, it's ok???? Ignore your beliefs and the teachings of your faith, and break the rules and suffer no consiquences??? Not the leason the kinds should be learning.
  18. Ok, I'm a bit confused. You said you had been hired, so when you were told you were hired did not your boss explain to you what your duties were to be and what was or was not expected of you? And certainly I would think that some sort of payment for your efforts would of been discused. For example, say you conctacted me for a job helping me sell pups online. I would give you urls where you could place ads, send you information as to what pups I had available, and get you what ever information you needed, then I would work out some sort of percentage that I would pay you for every pup you sold. But I would expect that we would work out all the details between the 2 of us before you ever started. Before you get too deeply involved in what ever this job is, you definatly need to get more information on what your job entails. Good luck, I hope it works out well for you.
  19. Oh my goodness! Talk about scary! Poor guy! And a real tough guy, imagine the pain of 4 wheeling that far and then driving to the hospital. I just love Red Green! He is definatly the champion of duct tape, without a doubt. Personally, I am also a huge fan of duct tape. You can fix just about anything with it. And awhile back ago they started making it in different colors, at first it was just blues, reds, yellows, but recently they started coming out with really hot bright colors, like purple, lime green and hot pink, I just loved it! But, imagine my delight when my last trip to the duct tape isle at wally world resulted in finding a tye dye patterned roll of duct tape, in a pink/blue color! I was exstatic! (I suppose it's a sad state when the most exciting thing that happens to a person in a week is they find a cool new color of duct tape, but hey, what can I say!?)
  20. Last week we finally found another used car like we had been looking for. Just in the nick of time I might add, as that day we drove home from starting the deal our old car rolled over to 290,000 miles. (the clutch is starting to slip, and it's using a little oil, though surprisingly not too much given it's age.) My first impression of the deal was just how easy it was. To be honest, I didn't figure we would be able to get the credit to buy the car. I had checked not too many months prior to this deal with my local bank about a loan, and couldn't get one there, despite the fact that I had loans there before, but not for quite awhile. We didn't have to show proof of anything, no pay stubs, no bank account information, basicly nothing. Even our credit aplications looked pretty blank, no employers information to fill out, (I'm self employed) no previous loan information to fill out. (we nearly always pay cash, haven't had a loan for quite a few years) Despite the ease of getting the loan, anyone who finds themselves in this situation needs to be aware of certain things. the car lots will try to get to you if there is any way they possibly can. Be absolutly sure you read the information they work up. ALL of it. They tried several things on us. Fortunatly, we didn't just fall off the turnip truck and caught them before we got the shaft. First thing they did was attempt to write up the paperwork with their asking price, which was $600 more than we actually paid for the car. The next trick was to figure out our payments on the total price we gave for the car, leaving out the downpayment we made. And if all that wasn't enough, when they mailed us the paperwork and title to get car tags, they had put their original asking price on it, which would of cost us over $50 more in sales tax before we could get the car licenced. Had t make another trip all the way back to the big city to get that corrected. So, I'm sure you've probably all heard it said time and time again, READ THE FINE PRINT but it truely is a very important thing to do.
  21. Yes, I have always tried to keep some in reserve in my my cents account, but it's just been one of those times when there isn't enough of me to go around. Had a lot of pups born a month or so ago, and it is a major undertaking even trying to keep up with them. I just didn't have the time to spend on the computer. The dogs have to come first. I did finally find another part time helper, who for now seems to be working out pretty good, so that will take a lot of the preasure off of my. But I still have to do all of the sales part, taking pictures, answering emails, posting ads, etc etc, and that in itself is very time consuming.
  22. Strange as it may sound, about the only time I have trouble falling asleep is when I know I have to get up extra early in the morning. Back when I was taking my own pups to the airport, I had to get up about 2:30 to 3:00 am. Totally miserable thing for me to have to do, I am more likely to stay up all night on the computer until about that time and then go to bed. I'm always afraid that I won't hear the alarm go off and I will miss the flight, so I don't sleep very good. I keep waking up thinking it must be about time for the alarm clock to go off. Trying to go to bed early is also pretty pointless, I just can't go to sleep. But almost all the time, on a normal night when I get to bed somewhere between 10 and midnight, and know I can wake up whenever I want to I fall asleep in a matter of minutes and sleep like a rock. I get teased about sleeping so hard, my better half has sugested numerous time that a stick of dynomite could be set off next to the house and I would sleep threw it.
  23. Ahhh shucks, thanks! Dog whisperer, what a great idea for an award catagory!Too bad it's not one of the catagories.
  24. Oh My God! I love my duct tape, but for closing wounds??????? Sure, it would go on good, and close it up, probably stop the bleeding too, but can you even imagine taking it back off? It would just pull everything right back apart again!I'll just stick with super glue.
  25. I'm having the same problem. I've been trying to post like crazy the past 2 days and my my cents has not gone up a single penny. I tried three times tonight to log into my account to check my balance, and got the "License is Not Validated" error message, but it did eventually let me log in. And I was still at the same ammount I've had for awhile now. My big worry is that at this time I don't have enough my cents to pay this months hosting, and if it doesn't update, I'm afraid I'll loose my web site. That would really suck! I know it's due really soon too, sure hope they get it fixed.
