  1. Hmmmm thank you Partho for the information...! I guess I'll re-apply soon, then. At least this way the subdomain can be changed without having to spend any additional credits. =) Nice to see you here.
  2. Yes that's the way to go to protect images. But nowadays you've got to put the watermark in the very middle of the picture, since it's very common to have people cropping the original picture to remove watermarks from the borders and alike. A clear example of it is the watermark option in DeviantArt. It's huge, it's very noticeable and right in the image center. It's actually awful to look at that, since it kind of screws the picture mood, but in the case of having constant problems, it's the only way to go.
  3. Well, about a year ago I did apply for the 30 credits hosting account, here in Xisto.I kept my site up for some months, but after some time the site idea kind of died, I wasn't able to post regurlarly enough to keep ti up and running. Now, I gathered up with a friend to start a new and promising project, that's actually up and running here http://www.sanestesico.co.cc/ , but on a very poor and slow free server.I was wondering what do I have to do in order to reactivate my old account, if possible, or if do I need to send a new application for hosting maybe? How many credits would be necessary?Thank you in advance, by the way.
  4. I just don't understand how the HELL they do make each version of Microsoft Office so BIGGER. And not just bigger. I mean REALLY HUGE.The whole thing occupies about 2GB of disk space, that's simply ridiculous. There ain't no significant change that could make a program go from about what, 200-300MB to the current program size. Also, a single language pack is 350MB big... And I'm not even talking about a complex and painful language like chinese (this one is about 600MB big). WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM? AHHHHHHHH! I mean, Open Office and alike can do that using 10 times less disk space..!I do like MS Office, seriously. It's not a bad program suite after all. I had my tries on Open Office, but some important Excel engineering and maths tools made me go back to the old one. Compatibility is also a concern, mainly because each damn suite wants to have it's own incompatible file type and extension. And not happy enough, Microsoft now implemented new .docx and alike for Office 2007... I just can't stand it. If the user just comes up with an idea, writes up a text on Microsoft Word 07 or Open Office Writer, and clicks the save button... well about 90% of the rest of the whole world is not going to be able to open it for reading without being through some kind of stressing process, since the default file formats for each editor are the exclusive ones which only work on their own editor. This is simply wrong! Even Adobe Photoshop asks if you do want the file to be compatible with old formats, and well PS isn't the sort of program that's really "user friendly". Yes, one might say "but asking for retrocompatibility isn't user friendly". But well neither is sending over your simple essay to a friend and having him not being able to view it.Damn it's late and I'm probably being an *bottom* as usual. But that's what I feel about them... Cheers.
  5. This is not only an annoying measure, it also cripples deeply usability. Not to say that nowadays with the steady growth of alternate browsers, mostly Firefox, Safari and Opera, it simply won't work. It's VERY hard to "hide" things like HTML/CSS/JS code from a curious or bad intentioned reasonably intelligent person.I'd say this one is a big no-no.
  6. I simply love it! I just think being a purist and doing all pixel art using paint is not the way to go... But...DeviantArt has also *incredible* Isometric Art pieces. Some take months and months to complete.I'll post some link to them soon!
  7. This program, LogonXP, will chance you logon screen as you want: http://www.stardock.com/products/logonxp/download.html You can find LogonXP "skins" in many sites, like LotsOfskins, for example. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&Zb4k-nXc5CJ0FrA But if what you want is changing the windows boot screen (the loading screen, let's say), there's some info here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Again, you can find skins all throughout the internet, but it's easier to look up for them in Wincustomize: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&2GYXl7HnFOSHx9w There's also DeviantArt, which has skins for both programs: http://www.deviantart.com/ Good luck and happy holidays!
  8. Considering you have pretty good skills at programming, I don't think I could be of any use to your project, other than making some pretty graphics here and there. Anyway I found the initiative very interesting, and would like to help a little. In case you need anything, please Private Message me. I'll be on vacations this week, but in 7 or 9 days I'll be here again.Wish you luck! And happy holidays!
  9. Mine may look quite bizarre to some people, but to a geek it's damn simple and obvious. After years trying to find the perfect nickname, and an UNIQUE one, I ended up by trying to emulate Wolfenstein 3D in my KDE box. I didn't manage to make it work, so then I came back to windows using the dual-boot.I was looking for some answers to my Linux problems, and the forum I was looking for them needed registering you order for you to access their attachments. Then the first thing that came to my mind was KDE and Wolfenstein (doh). Since KDEWolfenstein was a little big, and WolfensteinKDE wasn't as pretty, I typed KDEWolf. Some time later, I found a new (and awesome, at the time) webmail site, Web.de. Since 90% of the usernames I tried were already registered, I tried KDEWolf and voilĂ ! I did work perfectly in the first try. The same happened for years and years, in every kind of game, forum or site.So here I am nowadays =P. KDEWolf.
  10. Yes, he also played an important role in the development of Funk, Groove, amongst many genres I usually listen to. I sincerely didn't think he'd die this soon, but also never though he'd last this long being as crazy as he was. Getting drunk and drugged frequently being 70 is quite dangerous (there's an interview with him completely drunk, probably in YouTube), but I believe Brown probably died happy with his legacy and lifestyle. It's pretty sad, but I don't think his music will ever die in the next centuries. And that's what matters, his time here ended, and James did his job pretty well.
  11. Why do people still use Winzip?WinRAR is far far superior...
  12. It's not that easy to fill up a web page. =P Mainly a starting one! CPanel is pretty complete and easy to use (at least to me and a friend of mine), you won't have problems with it I guess.
  13. Well depends heavily in which kind of drugs the person uses. Probably playing this completely drunk will lead to a marvellous visit to the toilet. But it's quite funny to play some kind of games while drunk. 007 Goldeneye, for example, was of my favourites in this kind of "sport". And if you have someone sober it's even more funny, since it's incredibly hard to hit someone when you're all drunk, and the sober guy will look and think "my god, look at these... what the hell...". Another nice game to play is Worms, the number of times people play in the wrong turn so drunk they are is amazing... Other drugs aren't as funny or as easy to play games, also I'd better end my comments here to avoid any further problems. =p
  14. Well guys I can talk in some languages, but there's no way in hell someone can beat this link: http://www.flw.com/
  15. This is exactly what scientists fear nowadays. Most of global climate, mainly in Europe, depend upon water/wind currents located in western Atlantic ocean, close to US. I was astonished when a friend who works in an environment business told me about it, and that the story told on the film Day After Tomorrow is a real possibility, and second some, the most likely to cause a new Ice Age. And here in Brazil each year the summer is hotter and hotter... And I don't even live in a beach city!
  16. Actually from what I've read, the 30-day trial is a typo. The real trial period you get without a valid CS2 serial key is only 2 days. Adobe personnel know about this but I don't think they did change it up until now. Also, most of the download locations from adobe are outdated or don't exist. And the CS2-to-CS3 serial generator is most times broken, giving users many issues. Mac users have an almost twice as big download, I'm glad I do use Windows. From my personal experience, CS3 is a decent improvement, adding many Macromedia-like interfaces. Finally you have a more intelligent way of organizing your tabs and panels. But I don't think one should upgrade unless you own CS2 or you're getting your first Photoshop version. Actually, it's been quite some time while you can comfortably use Photoshop versions 6/7 and do (almost) the same... But that's just my opinion. Many people prefer having the newest possible hardware/software versions...
  17. When I noticed that it was way too late... =\ But anyway I guess I like the other sections of Xisto better than the Xisto ones. Less people but usually more quality. Just wished some artists came here once in a while =p And leafbunk, as you might have notice I'm watching you @ DeviantArt.
  18. Thank you very much for the great feedback leafbunk, as you might have seen I replied to your post in DeviantArt.
  19. Agreed. And all this twice as fast... [slightly off-topic] The only thing is... WHY IN THE HELL DON"T THEY DO ANYTHING LIKE EXTENSIONS??? I NEED to customize TONS of browser settings (yes I'm very picky about it), and no Opera widget would ever do that. If I managed to remove the File/Edit/Etc Menu, and change the way the tabs work, I'd use it every day. It's even possible to run opera with some games running on the background (err... damn addicting GameFaqs!). [/slightly off-topic] And I'm looking forward to 3.0. I hope they find those memory leaks and make some new clean code. Right now one needed extension is to restart the browser every hour so you don't get 71232Mb memory usage...
  20. FileZilla is excellent! Also, it's also free to get, different from the ones you spoke of.The FTP extension for Firefox is also pretty well design, though I don't like this kind of extension that makes the slow Firefox even slower. There's also the ftp command from DOS... err... nah...Just stick to Filezilla =)
  21. Actually the link has probably been updated, since the text is completely different from what you said. =\Too bad I wanted to take a look at this... You know once in a while Microsoft makes something cool.
  22. Slogan: "From idiot people to idiot people."The kind of person who buys this is the one I'd prefer to see out of the world we live. It's incredible how people this rich are such jerks that they don't use their money in anything better, for mankind, or for them at least.I won't even comment anything further so pissed I get with all this...
  23. Yes I've been noticing this happening very frequently in some forums I do visit, mainly phpBB ones. What 2 of them have done is to ask for the user to write down an image created on the fly, but BACKWARDS.I haven't seen any of the porn spam posts since this system has been implemented, and I guess that it would need some specific kind bot of bot to get past trough.I'm not sure if it's completely spam-proof, but seems to hold the spamming to a minimum (if not zero).Hope it works man, since I get the same kind of weird porn ads as comments in my personal site (which uses Wordpress and therefore allows comments...). And hell, it's ****ing annoying...
  24. Scientists trying to realize and reproduce the mechanism for decades shows the difference between some very intelligent people, and a genius.About History channel, I'm impressed on how engineers could make such huge war catapults for example, at those old times, with much less resources than nowadays, and even now we can't reproduce them very well, using hi-tech tools.
  25. Well I suppose it's quite obvious that I'm a KDE fan... (in case you haven't noticed: look at my username)Though it's said Gnome is more stable. Here in Brazil many public universities already use Unix/Linux-based systems for most of tasks, because of scalability and more control over the network and it's capabilities. Also, even computers running Windows have Firefox installed and set as default (they even hide the IE icon). This addresses various issues very common in this kind of network, like people running unintended software, or getting lots of adware/spyware by simply searching the web, and so keeping maintenance to a lower level. It's also curious that more developed and wealthy states or harder top-notch universities (usually public here in Brazil - as mine =D), tend more to adopt free software than others. This might show that knowledge and proper education leave some space to think about what's best for one, as also for the rest of the world. And it's not always proprietary software...In some states, public repartitions already use computers running Linux and free office applications (even if not thoroughly), but Microsoft is each day more making offers so government keep using their products. They say for example, that Linux isn't as friendly as Windows and that it could cause confusion because most of their employees run Windows machines in their homes, and it wouldn't have the adequate drivers for their equipment...Still, we're leaving proprietary software, slowly...
