  1. Some quick comments about them:The Robot is masterfully done, from the modeling to the materials employed. Also has a nice presentation. The home theater one lacks subtle light sources in my opinion, to give a more realistic feel, and the materials look a bit too flat. The receiver's material is specially weird. The house modeling and props are very well-made but the shadows cast make it look like if it was floating some inches above the grass. Maybe some more light sources coming from different angle could fix that. That's all. Anyway nice works, you have talent.
  2. I'd suggest you to make you site using no tables, only styled DIV and SPAN tags (and also styling key HTML elements, as A, BODY, etc) using CSS stylesheets. The first advantage is that you can easily update the whole site's look by editing only a single file. The second one is that you can a different CSS for each browser and/or resolution, for example.About the actual background image, do as Hercco suggested. It's the best way to begin styling your background. Later, once you're more experienced you can try some more complex stuff...
  3. The first one isn't good. Lacks contrast, uses visible lame effects like bevel and glow. I don't see how it would fit into Xisto. The techie feel in the second banner, together with its color scheme, fits much better Xisto. Did you make the whole thing? The font style doesn't match the style of the banner, though.Golden version of the pixel-based one is good, but the font isn't very nice. You could make the characters using the "pixels". The same for the circle. The Japanese girl one isn't really my style, but the colors and fonts blend very well. It's not very Xisto like, but still, well-made.A comment about all of them, is that these images looks very blurry. I'm not sure if it's the JPG quality you saved them at, or if they were resized to bigger dimensions, but you should look into that in all of them (maybe in the last one it isn't really necessary to have crispiness). They definitely need a sharpen...
  4. Indeed. I also used last version of GIMP and didn't like the interface much, though I usually don't like much interfaces I can't customize like hell (very rare thing). But I get used to them anyway... I still prefer Photoshop over GIMP and Paint Shop Pro, which is good as well though it's proprietary software (but many times cheaper then PS). For amateur editing you'd better stick with GIMP or look for some more on Google (there are some I never really used, like Paint.net, and it's said to be good). Paying that much for this kind of software would be stupidity. You must already have a decent income to think on affording a program as expensive as Photoshop. Also, money doesn't make any miracles. If you don't have knowledge or skill, it won't matter much which program do you use...
  5. Full view here: http://kdewolf.deviantart.com/art/Death-Knight-40907866 Based on previous work: http://kdewolf.deviantart.com/art/Death-Knight-40907866 I didn't like much any fire drawn by me on this one. Also, in my opinion it lacks some contrast, and a sense of deepness/perspective. But since I'm quite tired of this guy, here it is. I might revisit this someday, to get things done better. Made using 0.5mm mechanical pencil, on recycled paper. Feel free to comment (as definitely it needs improvement).
  6. No more updates either here or on DA. Did you take a break from this one?Soon I'll post the update of one of my drawings (gonna have some boring classes). =p
  7. You should tune down the GIF palette color depth to reduce file size. 68kb is quite a file size for a banner, in my opinion. Maybe reducing it you'll be even able to add some more frames to make the animation more smooth...And the text could be a bit brighter to better stand out from the background. To be most sincere, in case you're able to do this exact banner in Flash, you'll reduce a lot the file size and have a great animation rate. Since it's a simple banner, it wouldn't be hard to reproduce using Flash basic tools.
  8. Until today I've used DC++, Emule, Limewire PRO, Shareaza. Sure I'm not counting the dead ones like Napster, Kazaa and another one I can't help to remember right now... It had a blue background, orange links, was web based. Pretty good at the time.Nowadays I use just Shareaza and Limewire PRO. In my opinion Shareaza is the best one of them all, though I use Limewire to get some music and popular programs, because it has a nice download rate (usually), since PRO version has a big boost on the transfer rate. So I can get a small quantity of files very quickly on demand (like when I remember an author name, or something like this). In all other situations Shareaza fits my needs, mainly for torrents. Also once you find sources for a file, its transfer rate is pretty decent ans steady. Shareaza handles huge files nicely, and if you try to get some DVD movies or games you just have to leave it on the tray and forget. Eventually it gets done. =p

    Internet Security

It's almost a joke to hear that Norton is faster in a new build... Left it ages ago, though my dad still used it until like a year ago. Then after switching to AVG he was astonished how faster was it (and still, it's not fast enough to me).
  10. Shouldn't be this in tutorial section? Anyway, I don't like much this way of removing the red eye. The best way in my opinion in doing it is: Image setup: 1. Open your imaging program (usually Photoshop, but probably works the same way in GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, etc.). 2. Open the picture in which you want to remove the red eye. 3. Duplicate the Background layer that contains the photo (this is for avoiding mistakes). 4. Work on the duplicated layer. Brush Setup: 5. Select the Brush tool. 6. Set the brush blending method to Color. 7. Select as the main color for the brush any shade of white/grey/black. Make sure its Hue value is zero or almost zero. 8. Set the brush opacity value to around 80%. 9. Make sure you're using a hard brush tip. Hard brushes do not have soft edges. While this is not really necessary makes it work better. Actual Work 10. Zoom the image about 400-800% to make your job easier and more precise. 11. Paint over the red eyeball until it's fully grey/black. 12. In case you zoom the image out and you think it's looking too bright, you can select the Burn tool, set mode to Shadows, its opacity to around 20% and paint a little until you're satisfied with it. Keep in mind that overdoing this may make your photo look unnatural. That's it, basically.
  11. This can be done to any font or shape, this effect is commonly called "grunge" in tutorials over the internet, and uses some brushes and/filters. Look up for "grunge effect tutorial" and you might come up with the tools and pages you need.
  12. The background and your work's colors are very good, keep them the way it is. I's suggest darkening a bit the blue/grey tone that you're using. To be most sincere, I don't think it's a good idea to mix both soft-rounded and pixelated fonts in the same logo mark. I know it sort of kills your idea, but put both together and you'll see it's not the best thing to do usually. The "production" text could be in plural, and it looks better when kept smaller than the white line, like in your first try.About the ::, I don't know... they look nice as meaningless graphics, but definitely won't make anyone think about them as ::.These are my personal opinions, don't feel insulted in any way.
  13. But theoretically will run even slower... Which Windows version are you using exactly?
  14. I believe the right question to his statement would be: "Is this a troll... really?" Put a "I believe that, to me-" before his statement and just forget.
  15. For that you can just keep these hidden. And for some more security, put them into some weird C:\windows\system32\tmp323542\toolIE\ folder. And for even more security, you can RAR these. And for some more security, you give the RAR file a password. Then rename it to WINSYS32.DLL (these names scare newbies away), burn in to a CD and keep it together with those games you never play. Ok, all this may seem a little extreme, but you know women...
  16. Agreed, I'm still a HUGE fan of the 2D era, and beginning of 3D era. Now it's all about eye candy... =(
  17. I made all six faces only once, but still it took hours, spread through some days. But I find it boring, I'm more into Chess, for example
  18. Why exactly? To my knowledge they're not that great... Their usefulness was by running Apple systems, what's not needed now. =)
  19. Hehe, it's fun how you included Step 1[/b]. =pAnd a 372x478 is in no way a big sized document...

    Website

How's that, does FirstPage or any other program has decent built-in AJAX support?I used to use Dreamweaver MX a lot, but that was before XHTML and and new CSS support. Is DW MX worth for building these new CSS based standards compliant websites?
  21. Hummm yeah, but... That'll take billions of years. I suppose we're extincted long before that...
  22. I hate media. Nowadays everyone who writes down some program is a "hacker" and if the program damages anything it's a "virus". One single minute thinking about these terms and you already know they're used in a completely wrong context. When my HD crashed some weeks ago, the first thing my brother and my mother asked me was: "Was it a computer virus?". And, as always, I got pissed off, since (at least to me) I'm very unlikely to get viruses, since I am a very experienced user, and also have some programming skills. First of all, much easier than writing this script, browsing Google for "creating evil scripts" (this is just a stupid example). There you'll find many dangerous exploits, programs, bugs, etc... But the fact is: if you barely know how do these work, you're probably getting lots of them infecting you computer, just by browsing these sites with an insecure browser and/or by running some of the programs contained within them (like Trojan makers, for example). If you're up to damage someone's system, then I just hope the same happens to yours. If you're just studying some of it so you don't get infected or fooled by these childish stuff, you're welcome. By the way, when it came out, I had access to the YouLoveYou Visual Basic Script some time after, for studying it. That was a real computer virus. And that's a hell of a coding, with hundreds and hundreds of lines of code... So do not believe that without real knowledge you'll be able mess with one's computer around. Unless one is many times dumber than you, of course... And a last simple tip, for safety: always "edit" (using at least notepad) script files before running them, so you have a bare idea of what's going to happen next...
  23. You can simply use floating layers to do this via CSS. Check these links out: http://www.hypergurl.com/csstutorial10.html http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/stylesheets/csslayout.html http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/visuren.html (section 9.5) Any of them will work. Do you plan using transparent images for pins, like on Google Maps? If you are, remember that you'll need a hack to make PNG images to work on Internet Explorer versions prior to 7. Or you can use the somewhat ugly GIF transparency. Good luck.
  24. It's basically Mozilla Firefox, so the good thing is that you can transport extensions from one to another with little effort. The possible bad thing is that I'm not sure about how often it does get fixed, and it's unlikely to be as much as Firefox usually does. The interface is very nice anyway, along with its main features (tried some of them), though don't expect anything that astounding if you already use the Mozilla product. =)
