  1. oh no, i forgot where to put this post. didn't occur to me about the photoshop section. NEways, i'm adding some more comments on it. I haven't had any problem with Adobe Bridge opening. not like it's a feature i'll be using so much (don't think) because i never used the file browser either. the full and trial version are the same. when installing it asks if you want to install the full version, or just a 30 day trial. of course you need the serial for the full version.it can handle the 64-bit processors, and huge ram amounts, better than CS. so if u fall into that category, it's worth. otherwise i would stick with CS too. i mean, i like a lot of the new stuff in CS2, but the price isn't worth it yet. in a while it'll be cheaper. but maybe one reason why it worked slower for you is because it needs a much better computer to run properly than CS1. suppose it'll be the same with Longhorn--it's supposed to need this great system to run properly. yeah, opening time for me was also about the same as CS. but it does run faster for me, once opened.the keyboard shortcuts worked fine for me, no problem, and i could edit and change them.well, nothing so extremely awesome, but it does help me shave off precious minutes here and there when working.BTW--has anyone gotten the full Creative Suite CS2 yet?
  2. very true! why do you think it is that Compaq doesn't do it? i mean, it makes perfect sense, they could save alot of money.
  3. Dude, i've got both, and if i only had the router firewall, i'd be down long ago. they're only real basic stuff. and Someone: the XP firewall is ok, but NOT to be trusted if you have anything remotely important on your computer.
  4. get adaware for your spyware problem.i use NOD32 as my A/V, uses only 10MB total of memory.my firewall is from Tiny, and i've not ahd anything get through yet.
  5. My opinion is that the machine with XP needs a new floppy. it's ceap to replace, but USB drives are so cheap, with the amount of disks you'll be using, they break so fast, it'd be cheaper to get even some old small flash disk.
  6. go to a website like memoryx or memoryguide. there you pick the exact model and make of your laptop, and it tells you the specific memory your computer uses, what its maximum is, etc.i traded in my 2x256 chips for 2x512. i would have gone for 2 GB but my laptop only supports 1. but i got a steep discount on them by trading in the old ones---basically 50% off. of course that could be because in turkey the secondhand laptop business is in high demand, so old parts are worth more comparatively.it helped alot on cutting down the overall heat and usage of the processor, when video editing, graphics, or playing games. half the time it would automatically shut down from overheating. since upgrading, it's only done it once, after i spent the whole day working in Premiere.
  7. 80GB on my laptop, 160 GB (split between 3 hard disks) on desktop. i bought an external case for a dvd-burner some time back, and am thinking of getting a normal desktop HD, probably 160GB, that will fit inside case as well, for travelling. --better value than tiny HD, but of course, the loss is in the amt of space it takes up compared to actual portable versions.
  8. ok, i've upgraded from photoshop CS to CS2. i like it, there's new features and perks that make work so much easier. i don't like that the box beside the layers is gone, linking and grouping, making layer sets, etc, is alot more time consuming than it was before. IMO, that should not have been changed. But to make up for that, the ability to customise menus is there, a truly great feature. what are your thoughts on CS2, its pros & cons?
  9. my short list:European UnionJordanAustraliaPakistanUnited StatesThailandItalyPhillipinesLebanonTurkeyUnresolved/UnknownI checked with both Awstats and Webalizer. i got two different numbers for MB downloaded...and different stats on the countries as well??don't know why.
  10. if all you're planning on buying photoshop for is building a website, there are much better alternatives out there. even there's the "celeron" version of Photoshop, --Elements, which should be fine for light work. CS is really really good, yes. CS2 is even better!!! it's the greatest out there, for creating web stuff, but NOT worth the price tag if that's all you'll use it for. For optimizing photos and such there are other programs such as JPEG Optimizer, which allow even more control than Photoshop over the optimizing of selected parts of the photo. --and they are a hell of a lot cheaper.
  11. We're looking into getting a studio set up, but no one i know has a Mac, which is what we thought we'd go for. So i have no idea what we'd need, spex-wise.any advice on what is the minimum & recommended Mac specs for studio recording?also, how would a PC measure up to a Mac in that respect. -- since a PC is alot cheaper, will it make an obvious difference?someone suggested we get one of the new ipod minis, but frankly it looked a bit small and weak. --not to mention the hard drive size.
  12. I use Windows for my graphics applications, games, etc.but i'm thinking of buying a Mac for the graphic side of things. i've had windows long enuf and use photoshop often enough that the difference in speed will be a real bonus factor. --once i get used to the Mac.
  13. i say if you're a bit short on RAM then 98SE is the best. otherwise XP Pro, yes, windows currently is the top gaming platform.
  14. i don't think that will ever happen. the market is too firmly entrenched in Windows. people will complain about it, but the majority of them won't want to convert over to another system. hey, if another system came out that replaced WinOS i would be flipped, but until that happens, i'll be happy to stick with XP.
  15. why on earth would you want to dual-boot DOS?
  16. well i've never had the chance to use any of the other OSes. only ones i've ever used are DOS and windows. i would be happy to try out Linux in some form or other sooner or later, but as it has a steeper learning curve i guess i'll have to wait for a little till i'm able to learn something more about it. i really have no time for that right now. in the meantime, i'm happy enuf using windows XP Pro and hacking away at it. i do have to say that so far it's only given me the BSOD once. when i was installing an updated version of PGP over an older one. other than that, no problems. And even if there is WINE x Linux, i've heard it's still kind of buggy and doesn't work across the board.
  17. i'd give it a while to get all the kinks ironed out. Micro$oft does their beta testing on consumers, that's what i dislike most about Windows. i'll probably give it at least 6 months or so before i shell out whatever hardware i'd need to upgrade to, to get it to run properly with Longhorn
  18. messing with the XP boot can get nasty, if u slip on one thing it can fritz your boot.maybe it's just paranoia , but i've gotten the BSOD one too many times.
  19. i agree on the name brand issue. really, all name brands suck and it's so much better to custom-build your own computer with OEM parts. I agree that compaq desktops suck. irritating as hell when trying to repair them. i have a compaq laptop tho, and have had 2 before this. several others i know also have them, and i don't think they're so bad. sure i would like something maybe from alienware or something like that, but in lieu of not have the money, a compaq is a good deal. never had any major problems with any of them.... though i don't like either the haphazard use of various pieces in them. one's got a toshiba cd-drive, another has QSI, another is some other wierd brand, etc.
  20. yeah i've had good results from DVD region free. get the newer Region+CSS free download tho, as some new DVDs had trouble being played with the old version.if you're talking about a standalone dvd machine, search google, or dvd forums. there are region h**ks for basically all DVD players, you just need to do a bit of searching, like i have a Samsung model, you have to open the tray, press up, up, down, down, side, side, and then ok. then it becomes a multi region player, until it's restarted, after which you have to do it again. but it's convenient. um...that shouldn't have been against the rules 2 say, i hope. it wasn't referring to anything illegal.
  21. Amesis, you didn't really specify how you were able to delete it manually. what i do when i can't delete a file, is i go to task manager processes, kill whatever process looks similar to the one i'm trying to kill, and if that doesn't work, next step is to kill all rundll32 processes, and that generally works. once those are dead i can delete it, stop it from booting up again, and then restart. so far it's worked for me.of course if i delete certain ones the NT security autority shuts down the computer automatically, but running the "shutdown -a" trick whacks it back into sanity.
  22. i'd never go back to internet explorer. after using firefox for one day i was sold on it. it never had crashed on me or given me any problems, since nearly 5 months of use. i didn't find anything different about 1.0.2, but like someone said, it's a security update, not noticeable on the outside.
  23. Styx

    Pentium Vs Amd

why is it that AMD chips overheat easier? what i heard was that it was made in the Northern states, and it runs fine there, so they didn't take into acocunt hotter climates. it does sound like a load of bull, i know, but that was the only explanation i heard. anyone has a more logical explanation?
  24. Bleah! i really don't like the Corel series. i used that first, but then switched over to Photoshop. i find it much easier to use, and also IMO it's more professionally oriented.
