  1. Switching isn't a problem - but it's upto OpaQue to decide whether your account can be directly switched - or you've to go through the post-till-you-get routine there. If directly switched then I believe there's a way to transfer your site to the other one.
  2. That's cool indeed Earlier on I could faintly make out Calcutta and a couple of neighbouring places - zooming closer would simply take you to this fuzzy dark patch making it seems that Cal is always shrouded in the dark blanket of night. Now at least I can zoom down to about 5.12km but that's quite a pathetic figure compared to the other cities like Delhi & Bombay - where you can go as close as 500m and get a clear view. Anyway - one shouldn't grumble much about free stuff :)The future generations now don't have any excuse of being weak in world geography.

  4. This has happened earlier on too. Around 2001-2002 I think Logitech had to do the same in Asia. I'd seen a horde of such mice in India - they used to pilfer in from places like Taiwan. While they were perfect imitations (PERFECT in the Big, Bold, Black) - you could still tell they were fake from the feel of the body. The plastics used were of entirely different grade and lacked the smoothness or robust feeling of the real ones. But then again these were offered at some 1/10th the price of the real ones - so they found a good market among the segment seeking to clinch deals for ultra-low budget PCs. These lasted you a while - till the buttons gave out. The buttons were the first to go - and then the rotary sensors would get choked due to dust clogging. Unlike the real ones - if you tried too hard to clean the innards, it's screw up the rotary sensors too. Either way, these were more of the Use & Throw variety. They even had such imitation MS mice. I got conned into buying one - around that time.
  5. Yep - and here's the complete list of links to the April Fool's pages Google had made. Google Romance Lunar Jobs Pigeon Rank MentalPlex Have fun
  6. Whoaa - as always, another terrific article from vujsa Extremely informative and helpful.
  7. Hey nice find szupie I've been using it for a good part of the day - and haven't come across any bugs so far. Certaily like it more than the vanilla edition. Load time's the same.
  8. Hehe - yeah this one is quite old. It was released on 1st April as an April Fool's Joke in 2002 I believe. Very funny but interesting concept - and the way they've outlined it, they almost got you to believe it.
  9. Cool - anything to rival Experts-exchange and I'm up for it. Jeigh: You can bypass the paid registration barrier of experts exchange if you join up and start answering a few questions there. So did I - and within a month I gathered some 9000 points and moved up in rank to somewhere around the 6000 mark. When you join, you'd be right at the bottom, well under 20K mark. Anyway, the point is that now even if I don't answer any further, I can still see all their solutions.
  10. ????[/tab]In a dramatic turn of events, the search behemoth Google is being accused of Bio-Piracy. This comes in the light of Google's plans to create a huge searchable database of all the genes on this planet in collaboration with the genomic research institute J. Craig Venter. [tab]Apparently this week Google has been presented with an award as part of the Captain Hook Awards for Biopiracy in Curitiba, Brazil. Would such a database be of immense help - or a severe invasion of privacy? What say you ?
  11. Thanks for all the help guys Am not done with it yet - gotta finish today's work and then sit with it. yordan: The home folder /home/abcd is owned by the login (abcd) and it's own group (abcd) I'm using.. I tried doing a whole bunch of chown's on it, e.g.: chown -R abcd:abcd /home/abcd Then I even tried various chmod's on /home/abcd.. +777, +755, +775 - nothing seemed to be able to make it write to the dir. MC: Yep - you're right, this is FC4 with selinux. I had a feeling that selinux was at the root of all this evil but couldn't get my fingers on the right spot. Will follow all these directions and try to get it working tonight. One last note - there IS a firewall on my WinXP system - it's the integrated firewall that came with my AV BitDefender Pro 9. It's a relatively painless firewall, that asks you whether to ALLOW/DISALLOW incoming/outgoing connections when you launch some new network client. Once ALLOWED with the "Remember Settings" option - it never bother's you for that client again. And while you can specify incoming/outgoing ports for it - you can select an option to allow a client to make connections to ANY port. So I don't think the firewall at my end is the issue.
  12. Is it still giving you errors ? It hadn't been approved earlier on - which in turn showed you that error message, although the topic title showed up in the last 20 list. But I approved it yesterday - so now it should show up fine. Just try and let me know. Regards,m^e
  13. This is really funny - FileZilla was in Passive mode all this while. I went to the Advanced as you said and found it to be in passive itself. Just for the heck of it, I set it to Active and have it a shot. And IT LISTED THE DIRECTORY !!!! I tried all three options there - i.e., Active, Passive and Default. Out of these only Active is working. Well - that's one problem done. Now to the second one - even though I can see the directory listing now - I still cannot write anything to it. Files pre-existing in the dir can be downloaded - but nothing uploaded to it !! When I attempt to upload - the file gets stuck in the queue with a message saying - Critical Transfer Error - and that's about it. Any bright ideas ? For your reference, here's the new FileZilla log, after I switched it to Active Log of when I try to upload
  14. Hey guys, [tab][/tab]I just reinstalled my server with FC4. VSFTPD is enabled on it. When I try to connect to it from my windows system using FileZilla - it connects fine, i.e. VSFTPD accepts the login/pass and shows the welcome message too. Then comes the problem - when it issues a LIST command and tries to show me the default directory it gets stuck for a good while and then times out. This is happening for ANY and EVERY directory. At first I thought it must be something to do with the chmodding - so I tried all the modes +777, +755 etc.. but no avail. Same result in all cases. Can someone point out where I'm going wrong ? Here's my vsftpd.conf: # Example config file /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf## The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid. 15. Nope - whatever syntax change was to happen has already happened between VB6 and VB.NET 2003. The whole coding paradigm was upgraded. Now you'll see only very minor changes - but no major leap. With Option Explicit set to On, you'll to explicitly define every variable before you use them (similar to C++). VB6 allowed you to simply use any random variable at any point of the code - which could add to massive confusion later on. This way you have to clearly outline your variables before you start coding and also minimizes the chance of naming clashes and subsequent overwriting of the same variable within scope. Option Strict disallows you to cast between data types without proper casting commands. For example, you in VB6 you could equate an Integer var to a Float or String or whatever. Not so with Option Strict on. You've to use some data casting command - like System.Convert, CInt, CDouble etc. to change your data to a suitable type before assinging to a variable. Almost same - but using simply Dim makes your variable Public by default. You've to read a bit more on the access modifiers. With the advent of OOP, now there are several access modifiers like Public, Private, Protected, Friend etc - each of which have a definite effect on the scope of the variable. The _i, _b is a clever trick that helps you avoid a lot of confusion later on. Normally you've no way of knowing WHAT DATA TYPE is a particular variable by looking at the code - unless you go back and refer to the variable declaration part. This task becomes very tiresome as your code increases. If you prefix your variables with a _i, _b, _f etc - you immediately know the type of your var,i standing for Integer b for Boolean f for Float.. etc.. Just use your imagination. Also certain words like Timer, Color etc - are either reserved keywords or name of some system constant. If you use variable names like these there might be clashes and problems... Thus it's an ideal coding practise to append a "_" (underscore) before the name of the variable. That also tells you that the name is question IS a variable defined by you. Yep - right on. Also from the two drop-down boxes above the designer, you can PICK which event you want to code for and not just rely on the double-click to bring up the default event. For the rest - over to tansgrx Me got to get busy with work again Good luck..

  18. Nice find - but they've already employed the same concept for Google Desktop Search. Even there it's find-as-you-type, which does help a lot. In the web version, it can show only suggestion for search strings - but the desktop version starts spitting out results immediately.. so in most cases, by the time you've typed the first 3-4 characters, you've already found your search-object.. there's no need to press the search button either :lol:In a way, this suggest thing will help one kill a lot of free time. Quite often (when I'm done with reading/replying to all the message boards and emails) - I keep wondering what to do.. There are times, I can't find interesting sites either. This suggest thingie will surely help me in reaching out on a wide variety of stuff with some minor wordplay in the search field. It actually spits out suggestions for search string - which you won't normally encounter or think of. I do see the potential of this.
  19. Any work that is published on the net is supposedly auto-copyrighted, as long as the author can prove that the first instance of this work appeared on a particular site/forum with time-date stamp. If that article made its first appearance on the net in this thread, then it's surely copyrighted to you. Interesting reading, btw.

  21. Neem has terrific medicinal properties and has nothing to do with the placebo effect. These have been outlined way back in the Ayur (Herbal) Vedas (Vedas are the oldest written scriptures in the world) - as abhiram pointed out. The leaves of Neem are horribly bitter - but have miraculous effect on digestion and acts as an anti-diabetic. Long term research has shown that anyone who eats a spoonful of neem leaves every day can keep such diseases at bay forever. In fact its a very common practise in India to eat neem leaves first thing in the morning. I used to be forced to do so when I was a kid. The bitter alkaloids in neem leaves help in production of bile juices as well as keeps your liver healthy, balances the sugar level in blood and gives you a healthy apetite. Secondly - my parents are dentists - and even though teaching patients how to brush properly using toothbrush is a 20-times a day thing for them, I've found them advising people with really bad gum/teeth condition to use the branches of neem leaves to slowly massage their gum. You'll find a whole range of people in India who've never touched a toothbrush. First thing in the morning they do is to chew on the ends a neem branch and use that to brush the mouth as you'd do with a normal toothbrush. And these people have got amazingly white, sparkling and strong teeth. When I'd chicken pox as a kid, it wasn't only the neem paste that came to rescue. If you itch hard on the pox blisters, they leave horrible marks on your body. The neem leaves turns out very handy in such a case. Just grab a soft branch with a whole bunch of leaves, and rub that lightly over the itchy region (like running a feather over the area). That does away with the itch and prevents formation of those horrible dents and bumps on your skin causes by pox. Neem acts as an insect repellant too - infact, there's this particular time of the year around Oct-Nov, when we get this nasty explosion of horrid little green bugs. They smell, they have a sharp irritating sting and they come in hordes wherever they find a light source. In fact come evening, you wouldn't be able to see the lights in your home anymore - they'd be entirely covered with a green moving mass of these pests. Sticking in a branch or two of neem (along with the leaves) repels these bugs like magic. Besides, neem leaves ground into water can act as a strong insecticide/repellant when sprayed on crop plants. Neem has certain effects as an anti-malarial drug, I believe as it's acts somewhat on the same lines as the bitter Quinine. Pheww.. I'd better put a stop here - I could probably go on and on forever about Neem and it's amazing properties. Anyway, what I wrote here are from First Hand Experience and not out of any textbook. So that says a fat lot about neem. I know about the other tree that abhiram was talking about. In archaic Indian tongue, it's named Vishalya Karani. References to it can be found in the Ramayanas, one of the ancient Hindu epics - where its been cited as a miracle cure herb for treating wounds. The plant is very much in existence - and the juice or paste of the leaves will pretty much disinfect and heal any minor wounds and gashes.
  22. There's a very easy way to do this in C# - by passing a certain parameter to the ToString method that is part of any given data type or canonical class. For example: // val contains your given valueint val = 14.3413543485;// we declare a string that contains the truncated valuestring decimal_adjusted = val.ToString ( "N2" ); The resultant value in decimal_adjusted should be 14.34. The N2 value passed to the ToString method tells it to treat the value stored in val as a Numeric value and cut it down to 2 decimal places. You can replace 2 with whatever your desired degree of truncation is. If you want upto 3 decimal places, it should be N3, for 5 decimal places, N5 and so on.
