You can transfer credits to any other member by going to https://support.xisto.com/ and choosing option number 6 from the menu. However - a couple of things to take into consideration. 1. You HAVE TO HAVE over 30 credits in order to be able to transfer credits to others. Even then, only the excess amount you have over 30 is transferrable. This means that, say you've got 35 credits - you'll be able to transfer only 5. 2. When you announce a reward such as here - we've something called a REWARD BANK. It act's as a RESERVE - and safeguards the helping member's interest. You need to transfer the desired amount into our bank so that it ensures the helping member DOES receive the credits in the end. You can transfer it into our bank - the same way as you would to any other member. You've to go to the afore mentioned page and choose option six. Enter your own forum username/password next, the amount of credits to transfer and the receiver as BANK. You'll find the instructions there. Upon successful transactions - you receive confirmation email from Xisto about the credits transfer. Also NOTE that - for each transaction you perform, there's an additional surcharge of 3% over the transfered amount. This goes to Xisto's coffers

Strange IPB 2.1.4 Errors While Sending PM
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to WeaponX's topic in Software
I don't think so - this looks like a server problem.. See this part of the message: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 54784 bytes) in /var/www/sp/ -- the required memory allocation cannot be perform... .../sources/classes/class_display.php on line 313 --> This code is trying to request that much memory allocation in order to be able to process and send the PM. I haven't met this error earlier on - but most likely something's wrong with the server..filled up disk space and/or low RAM - so the required paging isn't happening. If they own the server - tell them to try clear up /var/log and see if this works. -

Interesting Science Questions
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to osbits's topic in Science and Technology
Answer 1:????[/tab]If we take into consideration the African Zebras - then most of them actually have BLACK skin. What we see as a striping patterns are alternate rows of black and white body hair. Answer 2: ????Yes, you yourself WILL BE ABLE TO SEE the light. Here's how. Assumption - nothing can move faster than the speed of light. Now let us go back to the two postulates that gave rise to the Special Theory of Relativity Speed of light in vacuum is constant. At rest or in motion - the rules of physics HAVE to work the same in all frames of references. As long as the moving frames are NOT ACCELERATING, things have to work out the same. Thus, quite contrary to our common sense, one can actually SEE the light in front of his car. The rules of nature work out the same way as it would have for normal earthly speeds. Light from the headlights will bounce back from the road into the driver's eyes - even though he might be travelling at the same speed. This works all the same in case of a mirror too - the question being whether you can see yourself in a mirror while travelling at light speed. Answer 5: [tab]If my physics knowledge doesn't fail me, then I think you can bring down the boiling point of any fluid by applying extremely high pressure on it. Keep in mind that boiling point and igniting point are not the same. Supposing gasoline boils at 400° C and ignites at a 100° C, you could apply a large amount of pressure on it and bring the boiling point down to some 20° or 30° C. Then getting it to boil is just a matter of applying gentle heat. It's the exact same principle the Pressure (Steam) Cooker works - by building up a huge quantity of steam inside, it brings down the boiling point of the water - and subsequently any food matter floating in it - thus allowing the food to get cooked really fast. -
According to a recent news on InformationWeek seems like MS has been upto their dirty tricks again. This time the medium is IE7 Beta 2 - and the target is the email client Outlook Express/Outlook. Unless you allow IE7 to be the default browser for your system, it somehow manages to break the web-links that come embedded in any of your emails. In other words, if you have Firefox/Opera or any third party browser set as your default, and you click a web-link in one of your emails inside Outlook, it should launch the page in the browser of your choice, right? Not in this case - IE7 Beta 2 silently suppresses that and doesn't allow your browser to start. If you set IE7 as the default browser this problem goes away. The affected clients are the Outlook 2002-2003 series. Here's the article: What can I say.. it's so bloody typical of MS.

A Word About The "FREE HOSTING" System
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Web Hosting Support
Yesterday, I forgot to add another prime reason for this outburst. A lot of disgruntled members who've been refused hosting keep sending "language-rich" mails to either me or the mod who rejected the application. Earlier on there used to be sporadic relatiations to hosting rejections - now it's becoming more of a regularity. It's like they take this whole hosting issue too much for granted... -
A Word About The "FREE HOSTING" System
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Web Hosting Support
hmmm.. maybe that was too much of an outburst.. but it's not just that one post.. I've been seeing them by cartloads over the past few years.. just that my irritation decided to give out at this point. Maybe all the horrible hosting applications that have been pouring in last few weeks had to add to that. Since I've to sit back and go through each of them several times - I do have a valid reason to be so pissed at the way a lot of people just take such services as granted - like these are their blody democratic right. But I hold true to every bit of what I said. Those who're already hosted here shouldn't be much bothered - coz all that was said taking into account the part they play in helping us keep this service alive. It was primarily meant for those #$#^%@#%^^%#^@#% .. never mind.. I'm not easily pissed, but when I am I've the foulest mouthed b@stard you can find in any block. -
Hi guys, ????[/tab]Certain recent discussions about the "perfect free-host" really infuriated me - and I made, what I thought to be a fitting reply to one of them, which can be found here. I'm creating a new topic out of it, since I want all of you to sit straight and take notice of certain "bare" facts - which I believe should be known by everyone alike just to KNOW hows it's like behind the scenes for any given FREE HOSTING Service. I'm QUOTING my post here again. Note that, these are explicitly my own views and doesn't necessarily reflect the views or attitude of Xisto Corporation. Just that some of these inanely stupid posts regarding FREE HOSTING managed to piss me off to the umpteenth degree.

Help Needed In Setting Up AdSense In IPB
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to iGuest's topic in Software
I can instruct you about the Google Adsense part... Check out our board at Antilost.Org. To get the Google Ads in the header beside the logo, you got to do this: Login into your IPB Admin CP Click the tab Look & Feel For the Skin Set you're using, select Edit Template HTML from the dropdown menu beside it. Next select All Global HTML In the resulting panel, select gloabl_board_header Near the top of the code-block, find this code: </script><script type="text/javascript" src='jscripts/ipb_global.js'></script><script type="text/javascript" src='jscripts/ips_menu.js'></script><script type="text/javascript" src='{ipb.vars['img_url']}/folder_js_skin/ips_menu_html.js'></script><!--ipb.javascript.end--><div class="borderwrap"> <div id="logostrip"><a href='{ipb.script_url}'><!--ipb.logo.start--><img src='style_images/<#IMG_DIR#>/logo4.gif' style='vertical-align:top' alt='IPB' border='0' /><!--ipb.logo.end--></a></div> Right after that add your google code.. example: <div id="googleADS" style="background: #DEF3FF; width: 100%;" align="center"><script type="text/javascript"><!--google_ad_client = "YOUR GOOGLE ADSENSE CLIENT ID";google_ad_width = 728;google_ad_height = 90;google_ad_format = "728x90_as";google_ad_type = "text";google_ad_channel ="";google_color_border = "DFF2FD";google_color_bg = "DFF2FD";google_color_link = "0000CC";google_color_url = "008000";google_color_text = "000000";//--></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"></script></div> Replace the YOUR GOOGLE ADSENSE CLIENT ID with your own ID, but leave the rest alone - to get the exact colour match for the IPB Default Skin, like Xisto or IPB. It's been optimized for that in the 728 x 90 Leaderboard mode for Text-ONLY ADs.NOTE: You CANNOT insert Google Adsense Ads after every message in your threads, as Google doesn't permit publication of more than 3 AD Units or related services in any given page. Which means, you cannot have more than 3 AD Units - in whichever format, or a combination of 3 AD Units and/or Firefox toolbar download links a and/or Google Search boxes - in any given page. I can show you the method to embed a Google AD in every thread right after the FIRST POST in the thread, as I've done with Antilost. You can follow the instructions in the ZIP I've attached here to get that effect. If you need any further clarification, don't hesitate to post back and I'll try my best to help you out here. Choosing Best Free Hosting Free Hosting
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to asimrsiddiqui's topic in Software
????[/tab]Guys - what all of you fail to realize is that there is nothing that you can really call a "FREE" web-host. Admit it, things like server maintainance, bandwidth etc. (of these bandwidth and connection speed cost the most) - all cost HELL LOT OF $$$. Who in the right frame of mind would throw that much away for free ?? If anyone could that would have been Microsoft and even they dont dare to offer you free webhosting with those kind of storage and bandwidth figures. ????Every so-called free host employs some way or the other to get back at least part of the $$ they're spending to maintain such a free service. Some use Ad-Banners to get partial returns, other use the so-hated and ugly popups and services like us (Xisto and Xisto), work in a roundabout approach. We ask you to maintain a steady flow of posts on our forums - which are very subjective in nature and thus draw a BIG crowd from the Search Engines. We display Advertisements to this crowd and recover part of our expenses.. but never entirely. The advertisement returns comprise only a minute part of our expenses. ????If you want to know what goes on behind the scene is that OpaQue funnels 90% of the funds he earns from his paid web-hosting service, Xisto - Web Hosting.Com to make up for the deficit incurred by these free services. This always was his dream project and he has no intention of letting his dreams die a premature death - THAT'S THE SOLE REASON WHY HE DOES IT. He started it coz he was pissed at the poor quality of the free web-hosts and wanted one which would provide you with no less flexibility and featues than any paid host. Let me ask you - who in the right frame of mind would throw away USD 2-3000 every month after a free service - when all that money could go to his own pockets to help him live a thoroughly lavish life !! Is he doing that ?? NO - instead he decides to "waste" most of that money into maintaining these feature-rich, AD-free hosting services.. The $$ he makes from the ADs don't even contribute to 2% of the cost he incurs in running these. ????My point is that, instead of grumbling for more space and bandwidth and your so-called "dream host" you should give due credits to where its required and respect this person's efforts at providing you with such a beautiful webhosting service. ????Don't for a moment think that this outburst is because I'm an admin here. I don't get even an inch of extra leverage because of that. My hosting facilities are exactly the same as any given member here. This job is entirely voluntary and because of my long standing membership here. I came as a commoner and still as a commoner. I don't enjoy any special privileges because of my position - but still, what really pique me off most are comments like this. Over the past few years I've seen this guy at work - seen him through ups & downs and really low phases where he's lost out nearly 6 figure amounts on this free-hosting service. But he's never lost heart and carried on with far more courage that any of us could sum up during such massive financial losses. He didn't let us suffer in any way for all these upheavals or let us feel it in the slightest - even for once. [tab]So give all due respect & admiration to such a selfless act and STOP SPEAKING SUCH BLOODY USELESS CRAP FOR GOD'S SAKE -
Server Slow On LAN, Fast On The Internet
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Computer Networks
It's got to be some switching/routing or IP resolution issue. Whats the configuration of your home network? What kind of ethernet cards do you use to connect and what's your switch/hub ? Try this for a starter. Goto your CentOS Server and open up the /etc/hosts file. Add the IP of the computer you access your server from and the Windows name of the same machine (assuming this is a windows platform).. save & quit. Example: CONSOLE shell> vi /etc/hosts 10.19.168.50 mymachine_name.mydomain mymachine_name 127.0.0.1 servermachine_name.mydomain servermachine_name localhost.localdomain localhost As you can see - each in this table, each IP is made to correspond to a variety of NetBIOS/NetBEUI names that your Windows machine might have. I'll use my personal network example.. My windows based development platform is called Developix and my Fedora Core 4 server is named Getafix. My network is configured with the 10.19.168.0/24 subnet. I decided to call my domain as testdomain. This is how my hosts file looks like: CONSOLE 10.19.168.50 developix.testdomain developix 127.0.0.1 getafix.testdomain getafix localhost.localdomain localhost NOTE: What appears to be a SPACE between each name segment here is actually a TAB character. So instead of pressing the SPACE-BAR you should use the TAB key. Also in the same /etc folder you'll find another file called hosts.allow. Edit that too and add the first three octets of your subnet. Example: CONSOLE shell> vi /etc/hosts.allow # # hosts.allow This file describes the names of the hosts which are # allowed to use the local INET services, as decided # by the '/usr/sbin/tcpd' server. # ALL: LOCAL, localhost, 10.19.168. ~ Now try to access your server and see if there's any big difference in access speed. Don't ask me why - I couldn't spot the exact reason, but it did massively improve connectivity in my case. I found this experimentally. So I assumed it had to be some IP/domain resolution related issue. Also my FC4 has SELinux installed - this could be it's doing too. Maybe having your own access IPs hardcoded into these files somehow makes access a lot quicker. Try it and let me know. If it acts the same way for you - then my doubts will be confirmed. -
Where Can I Find Free Icons On Web?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to wojta's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Thanks for replying on my behalf. That whole issue about using Maxthon was utter bull$****. If it loads with one browser - it HAS TO to any and every browser.. unless it's a pro-Microsoft site, that checks for the browser and limits the site to be loaded only by browsers based on the IE engine. CFP_Ratach_: you got your reply any further comments ??? -
I can't remember how I came upon this site - but it's hilarious. They call themselves Microsuck and the site is the closest and most daring imitation of the main Microsoft.Com site interface. Their mission statement seems to be: The Microsoft Eradication Soceity. The site is all about providing you with as many alternatives as you can find to using Microsoft products - specially OSes. They've got a whole bunch of cool and funny articles going on about why you should abandon MS products and use something else. Also hosted are a cart load of taunting interviews & live-coverage of speeches of real-world people.. the big shots in various companies including MS. Here's their introductory text: And to give you a glimpse of their content, here's an article on their front page: This site is a MUST-VISIT Regards, m^e

The Shoutbox here is called D2-Shoutbox and is one of the standard IPB Mods (modifications) released by D-Scripting and can be downloaded here: http://mods.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/5359 along with detailed installation instructions. For IPB 2.1.x it's been renamed to D21-Shoutbox. Be prepared to do some messy code editing though. And before you perform any of the edits, make sure you've backed-up the file you're editing - else it can crash your whole board. As for the Credits System, it has been told repeatedly earlier on - that it's a unique in-house creation by OpaQue - our founder, and is not available in the public domain as people can easily study the script and find ways to defeat the credits allocation here. This script is something that you'll have to create yourself - or search around for Points Script on HotScripts.Com and based on that extend the functionality.

Just go ahead As I said this forum's been lying dormant for a LOOONG time and really needs some work. Maybe you can provide the right impetus to get it going.

Have any of you come across Easy Message - the new (not so new) kid in the block ? I've had it for a while. You tend to get tired of your system tray being cluttered with a wide variety of IMs - but then it's kind of unavoidable as different grousp of your friends have their own IM preferences. Trillian used to be a good option earlier on - but then it became too bulky and unstable. That's where Easy Message comes in - it supports the same range of protocols as Trillian does - i.e. AOL, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo etc.. BUT it's got an ultra-light footprint. The installer is only 258.6KB - no extra downloads necessary. After installation it takes up about 576KB in the Program Files folder. Runtime memory usage is about 14.3MB. As you can see from these figures - it's definitely got to be the most lightweight one out there. It's got a simple basic interface and does it's job well. It's worth a try.. Grab it from here: http://www.easymessage.net/ If you do use it, it'll be great if you come back and share your experience with us here. Regards, m^e

[tab][/tab]Tuesday night earned another glorious feather for the whole opensource movement. OpenDocument is now officially a world-standard document format and has been unanymously voted for by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Microsoft as usual is being the eternal ***** by trying to force the standardization of its own Office OpenXML format. Read the full article at: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Here you're ignoring some hard facts are putting in a very biased opinion. It's widely known that the sole reason why IE loads so fast is because most of the browsers backing code is already loaded when windows boots. The IE engine itself is behind the Windows Explorer thingie - when you click on the IE icon, it simply has to load the GUI. If Firefox was allowed to embed part of its code into Windows - it'd startup umpteenth times faster than IE. That is pure unadulterated *BLEEP* IE is leaking like a sieve when is comes to security holes. I'm not saying that Firefox is 100% secure - but whatever holes are there in Firefox, they get discovered in a matter of moments and are patched and plugged overnight. The same takes over an year or two with ultra-sluggish release of the so called "Service Packs". If you didn't know - there's another big anti-trust case coming up against IE/MS as starting from IE7, MS has made MSN the default search engine for IE. Not that you cannot set your default search engine to be Google or something else but for most first time users, it's a tricky scenario. MS is upto its slimy tricks again to try and drive the search traffic to its own site. Once again we come to the extremely non-standards compliant rendering engine of IE. it simply doesn't want to adhere to any of the standardized rendering models. MS tries to come up with new IE specific stuff to try and prove itself to be a trendsetter - but then its products are so horrible that for next 'x' years it spends taking out service packs to patch those bugs and very conveniently looses out on the "trend-setting edge" that it initially tried to gain. None of those features you mentioned are in any way a part of the W3C CSS/HTML specifications - hence they mean asbolutely NOTHING I'd agree that tabs aren't a copy - coz Opera was the first one to have it. In that respect Firefox could be said to be a copy of Opera too.. But the fact is both these browsers did it FIRST... they were the trend-setters and they carried it off in full flying colours whereas IE was left behind by some 3-4 years to mess up your whole desktop with a never ending series of untrackable unmanagable windows.. NOW - you're talking sense There's a big battle brewing - Google's already filed or is going to file a case against MS about that whole MSN as a default search engine for IE7 issue. I'm just going to sit and watch the fun and follow it all with the help of the frequent newsflashes from Google Desktop using Firefox

That's another reason why the topic titles of almost all posts are edited here to reflect the content better. This helps our posts get very good ranking on the search engines. Besides sometimes it gets quite necessary to rename topic titles, as some members make posts with really odd and short titles which leave one totally in the dark as to the real content of the post. That is entirely undesirable on out forums .. we try to keep the garbage out as much as possible and only the useful stuff in - to try and help make your life a breeze when it comes to locating documents .

To the best of my knowledge, VBScript is a scripting fork of the language Visual Basic and has got absolutely nothing to do with vB (vBulletin) - the forum software.. unless you mean a version of vB that was written in VBScript.. in which case, it won't be called VBScript anymore, but ASP or ASP.NET

I dont get it - why would Xisto hand you a certificate? It never did to me - and I just checked my Firefox certificate cache and didn't find a single stored certificate other than Gmail. As far as I know the certificates are used for encrypted communication (e.g. https) between the client and the web-server, like it happens when you log into Gmail. You login/password aren't transmitted in plaintext. Same happens when you buy stuff online - to prevent your credit card details from being transmitted as plaintext. These certificates have to be purchased at an annual licensing fee from certain trusted sources like Verisign, Thawte etc. who act as the escrow and vouch for the authenticity of your site to the clients. To the best of my knowledge we never required any kind of secure transactions at Xisto - so I wonder from where this whole certificate issue is coming to be?? It's funny and alarming at the same time - or maybe it just due to bloody dumb old IE - who blindly assumes that every site must have a certificate.
-
You see that's where BlueFrog comes in - it's not supposed to act as a spam filter. Admitted Gmail's filters are excellent - but you still do get spam.. though they land up in your spambox rightaway without you having to intervene in any way. BlueFrog takes up the job from there - studying your spambox and then going over to each spammer and constantly harassing them, till they're forced to remove your email from their database. Thus both these tools work hand in hand in battling spam.

However it'd be good to have some Alarm buttons on your mobile that sends immediate pre-set messages to 911. Say you're about to be mugged or held up at gun-point, you can alert the authorities at the press of a button and then 911 should be able to more or less pin-point your location based on the network cell you're in.. at least upto a certain degree of proximity. Then the rest is upto the cops to rush down and try to locate you.
