I don't think it's an overload problem - coz my site (Antilost) is loading fine, and it's hosted on Gamma. Can you paste the connection part of your script here ? That might give me an idea.. However - on second thoughts, Host 'gamma.xisto.com' is blocked because of many connection errors. - that statement does indicate a temporary lockup owing to too many persistent connections. Lets wait up for sometime and see if it gets fixed. Usually such overloads are auto-resolved within 15 minutes or maybe a bit more sometimes.

Hehehe - thanks for all the help guys. Nope she doesn't speak Russian.. at least the younger generations in Vietnam don't. But among the old lot - who lived under French rule - you'll find a bunch of them well conversant in various world languages. Saint-Micahel - I did find a couple of those sites specially VietCali - that helped me roll off.. but then again if I can consult someone whos a native speaker then translating phrases becomes much easier. Besides - what I understood of the language is that individual words may mean something - but when put together as phrases - they mean something completely different. So there...Moreover if you tried learning languages like Vietnamese and Thai (which I'm mastered to some extent) - you'd realize how difficult it is, because of the TONES they have. Thai has 5 and Vietnamese I believe has 6 TONES. These range from Rising, Falling, Flat, Low etc..It's these tones that make these languages so hard for us non-native speakers. It's an immensely difficult task to bend your tongue or vocal chord to produce the right tones, unless you've been trained since childhood. If you get the tones wrong even by a tiny margin, you can end up meaning something completely opposite of what you intended - and in most cases something QUITE OFFENSIVE

Oh dude I don't think there's any probably way to transmit electricity wirelessly like that.. The whole air would be filled with so much of static that it'd severely damage any electrical devices in the vicinity.. humans would zapped every so often - and your body hair would always be standing straight.. Only possible way I think is to use electricity and generate some sort of radio waves - which on the receiving end is converted back to electricity - though, how efficient such a process will be is highly doubtful..See unlike any kind of waves - electricity needs a potential difference at both end of the wire to flow down (or find it's path).. imagine yourself standing between two powerful +ve -ve poles kept at two sides of the room.. Now imagine turning of the power and happening to walk between those poles.. The electric arc will jump out from the +ve pole in an attempt to reach the -ve one, but finding you in between nicely grounded, it'd jump first onto you and try to reach the ground.. Lol.. ZAPPPPPPPPP!!!!

This came to me by email today.. It's hilarious Time once again to review the winners of the Annual "Stella Awards." The Stella Awards are named after 81 year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued McDonald's (in NM). That case inspired the Stella Awards for the most frivolous, ridiculous, successful lawsuits in the United States . Here are this year's winners: 5th Place (tie): Kathleen Robertson of Austin , Texas , was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The owners of the store were understandably surprised at the verdict, considering the misbehaving little toddler was Ms. Robertson's son. 5th Place (tie): 19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps. 5th Place (tie): Terrence Dickson of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation, and Mr. Dickson found himself locked in the garage for eight days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of $500,000. In my opinion this is so outrageous that it should have been 2nd Place ! 4th Place : Jerry Williams of Little Rock , Arkansas , was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's beagle. The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been just a little provoked at the time, by Mr. Williams who had climbed over the fence into the yard and was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun. 3rd Place : A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster , Pennsylvania , $113,500. after she slipped on a soft drink and broke her coccyx (tailbone). The beverage was on the floor because Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument. 2nd Place : Kara Walton of Claymont , Delaware , successfully sued the owner of a night club in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom window to the floor and knocked out her two front teeth. This occurred while Ms.Walton was trying to sneak through the window in the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was awarded $12,000. and dental expenses. 1st Place : This year's runaway winner was Mrs. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma. Mrs. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, (from an OU football game), having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the drivers seat to go into the back & make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the RV left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mrs.Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising her in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually do this. The jury awarded her $1,750,000. plus a new motor home. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other complete morons around. ROFLMAO

Messenger vs. Google Talk What do you use?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to fcfosters's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've gradually begun to shift to GoogleTalk - it's way more lighweight and does exactly what it's supposed to - i.e. Text & Voice Chat. Moreover it's got a tremendous advantage over MSN in terms of Chat Logs, which get stored directly to your gmail account. This is an indispensible feature. GTalk has yet to mature a lot - but I can clearly see its potential.I'm actively trying to encourage all my friends to start using it - so I can get rid of MSN for once and all. -
Yep - it can be done. The email addresses you create are POP3 enabled by default. You can access them at the standard POP3 port which is 110 using any email client like Outlook, ThunderBird etc.. The server address should be yoursubdomain.astahost.com. NOTE: When you use POP3 access, you've to enter the login name is this format in your email client... Say your email is: myemail@mysubdomain.astahost.com The login name should be: myemail+mysubdomain.astahost.com Password should be whatever you set your email password to.

Freeware Or Paidware Anitvirus Program?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to Kushika's topic in Software
Finally - someone who uses the same AV as me.. I tell you BD is a master blaster. Although it's a paid AV - the subscription is only $24 in an year - which is hardly anything considering the amount of security it provides you.. And now, to top it all - BD Pro 9 AV Scanner engine recently got upgraded to scan/stop Spyware too. It's double security for the price of one - not to forget the cool and extremely easy to use firewall that comes bundled with it. -
Hey guys, ????[/tab]Do we have any active and regular Vietnamese member on board ? I'm looking for someone who's well conversant in both Vietnamese and English. Errrr.. the things that I've landed up with a real cute vietnamese girlfriend while I was on my Cambodia-Vietnam trip some 2 weeks back. Problem is that while she understands english, she speaks just about 10 words of it. When I was present there, face-to-face, our conversations still happened mostly owing to my immense patience and 6 years of hardcore training in Thailand - trying to drum stuff into the heads of the locals (read "communicate")- using all forms of sign and body language with a touch of broken english here and there.. ????But now that I'm back here - carrying on a decent conversation with her over chat or phone is getting to be a big headache. So I was wondering if I could talk to one of our viet members and pick up a few common words/phrases in vietnamese - partly to impress her and partly to get our conversations rolling a bit further.. [tab]Any help will be greatly appreciated m^e *BUMP* Anyone around ?? Hehe Notice from saint-michael: merge double post.

Yep - I noticed that misclick too - but happens only first time you click the header. I get what you mean - now there's no reason to have the ID's - since we're using the sibling iterator. Am off to make the changes Done updating.. The new code, stripped of the div id's looks like this: <div class="notice"> <div class="header" onClick="java script:this.nextSibling.nextSibling.style.display = (this.nextSibling.nextSibling.style.display == 'block') ? 'none' : 'block';"> <div class="middlebar">Notice from {option}: </div> </div> <div class="messagebody">{content}</div></div> I updated it on Anitlost too. -

Hey all [tab][/tab]FINALLY the problem with collapse/expand of multiple notes is SOLVED. Time to make a minor update to the NOTE BBCode. Earlier on there was a big problem with the design, such that, if you had multiple notes on the same page or post, clicking on one would collapse/expand all others. Mastercomputers fixed the problem at Antilost, with a very subtle and clever trick, bypassing the need for that huge collapse/expand javascript totally. As a result the BBCode stands much shorter and smoother Here's the code update: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="LINK.TO.YOUR.NOTICE.CSS" /><div id="notice" class="notice"> <div id="header" class="header" onClick="java script:this.nextSibling.nextSibling.style.display = (this.nextSibling.nextSibling.style.display == 'block') ? 'none' : 'block';"> <div id="middlebar" class="middlebar">Notice from {option}: </div> </div> <div id="notemsg" class="messagebody">{content}</div></div> That's the whole of it Remember that lengthy JS code.. it's entirely gone -

Hi guys, Mastercomputers just came up with two new cool BBCodes for Antilost - and I prompty adapted them for this board. They're ACRONYM and ABBR (Abbreviation). These are the two much needed and literally indispensible BBCodes for any technical board. With ACRONYM you'll be able to write the acronym in your posts and link it with its full-form. Whenever you hover your mouse over the acronym, the full-form of the term pop's up around the mouse cursor. The same goes for ABBR - but it's purpose is slightly different. It allows you to post abbreviated forms of words and hook up the unabbreviated form with it. Examples: Have fun & many thanks to MC, m^e

Toyota has recently introduced a new hybrid (gasolene-electric) car named Prius Sedan, which employs a self-parking mechanism that can glide the car into tight parking spaces without intervention from the driver. This attachment known as "Parking Assist" relies on power steering and computerised sensors is available at an additional cost of $700. The only role the driver plays in this is to control the speed of the car by holding the accelerator down. Apparently, once the car is safely tucked into the parking space, the computer is heard saying -"The assist is over." See demonstration videos and read more at: Self-Parking Cars Coming To U.S.
