  1. This is a great bunch of information. Don't forget Open Office also, best alternative to payware suits!

    Dial Up

What about satellite broadband? They may not have it where you live, but if they do its defiantly worth a look. Also, if you have a copper phone line to your house, is there any problem with getting DSL? or doesn't your exchange support it?
  3. My old school used ContentKeeper. It is a great program, but while at school was so annoying. It blocked everything we wanted (and the teachers didn't) as was pretty much impossible to get past. It included the feature to block keywords as well as particular sites (defined by a admin) and included blocked 'categories' that included many sites (like games, shopping etc)While I was at school, we found a few ways to avoid content keeper, but most of them were found out by others and got shut down the next day. This proxy idea sounds good, but like most of our other ideas, it'd be blocked before we tried it!
  4. the speeds that the ISP tells you are always theoretical and never seem to be exact. I have DSL 1.5mb and it never gets that fast. There are many different factors that reduce your speed.
  5. Also have a look at the software you are using (same place you would change from stereo to surround). There would have to be an option to turn on/off the subwoofer.
  6. Today, I fired up my laptop to check the email, usual morning stuff and got the Windows Update reminder in the taskbar. No worries, I’ll just update this and be on my way. Small couple of kB Windows Defender update - easy! A few moments later it was done, the successful update balloon popped up. Moments later, another update appeared, strange… I opened Windows Update and it reported that this one update had a size of a few MB up to a few hundred! Could it be… Well it was, Windows Vista SP1 is ready for all. As I write this, I am currently downloading it to my Vista Test Machine, so after it downloads, we’ll see what happens. I’m not expecting it to make a dramatic change to the speed and performance of the PC, but who knows, its Microsoft after all! My download is only 66.9MB thankfully! According to this site, vista sp1 has been available for manual download since yesterday. Also, not all languages are available yet. Some people may not be able to download sp1 if they had a defective driver installed. All this is explained in the article.
  7. Feelay, maybe sweedish languages are not supported yet?I tried it today at work, and so far its not good! The Internet Explorer works well, and displays most pages ok. My website (hosted here) doesn't load properly and has problems with the menu. I also noticed that when trying to go to links, the browser would freeze for no apparent reason, then come back alive a few moments later! But (this is the interesting part) If I was to open the same link in a new tab, it'd work fine. I suppose its just the beta and they'll sort out problems like that!
  8. After updating your drivers, have a look at the Event Viewer. Open the Start Menu and type 'eventvwr' (without quotes) and hit enter. When the Event Viewer opens, have a look for any errors relating to the game.Any errors here will have details on what caused them. You can then post them here so we can get a better idea whats happening, and give more detail on how to help you!
  9. Nope, luckily I'm not in that situation. I'm sure there would be a way to query the database for just your topics, but I would doubt that they would try.
  10. Thats going to be a huge pain, theres 3 pages of topics and 27 pages of posts. Good Luck!
  11. I agree, for the effort, I don't really think it's worth it! Especially if I have to go out and buy an entire new burner for an extra 2x speed increase.
  12. Div tags are painful! I spent ages trying to fix some on a website, but when you get them right, they're very useful. Have a look at W3Schools, they have tutorials on css, as well as heaps of other topics here.
  13. For me, it depends on the photo I am taking. If it is of a wonderfully vibrant colourful scene I will take it on colour. Otherwise, I'm a real fan of B/W (or grayscale ) photos (also, sepia tone is nice!).B/W photos only really work in a bright environment, i.e. outside in the sun and I don't think work as well indoors with a flash. One of the major upsides of developing my own photos is that I can perfect the tone of the photo to whatever suits!
  14. I believe you are talking about Microsoft Expression. http://www.microsoft.com/expression/eng/. It is a suite of tools that can be used to make websites. Nothing special as far as I can tell. I still like to make my own sites and i think this is just a new version of front page under a new name. (with a few extra features) From the site above,
  15. I have been using Yahoo mail since forever. (great english that! ) A friend recommended it to me many years ago, so i signed up and have been there since. The new version of Yahoo Mail is very nice. I especially like the weather updates on the homepage. The streamlined looks and fast response times are very nice when I'm checking my mail on the run.The keybaord shortcuts are also very nice. Makes it feel just like a desktop app. The yahoo calender is also useful for dates and reminders (though I use my PDA for most of that stuff). The news is a nice touch to the homepage, I can find out whats happening as soon as I log into my mail (though, sometimes I get distracted and forget about the mail )I think its just as good as Hotmail/Live Mail (whatever they want to call it) if not better!
  16. there must be something happening on the first account that isn't happening on the second account (whether it be driver or app). The best way to see what is happening using the Task Manager. (usually Ctrl + Alt + Del) (Or even better, Process Explorer from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/)This way you can see what applications are running. You can check the version of your drivers from the Device Manager. But this should be the same on both accounts.
  17. Are you getting any errors? any messages? What exactly is happening when you go to turn off your computer? Also, what type of computer do you have, desktop or laptop, brand? Please give us as much information as possible s o we can help.At a guess, I would say that the system is still using the file you downloaded, thus why you cannot delete it, or turn off your computer.
  18. If I understand what you are saying correctly, once you have logged in, the LED colours change back to red. This probably means that a program running on the laptop (one of the Dell preloaded apps) is changing it automatically. See if there is a Dell app that could be loading on startup that could be causing this.
  19. Have a look at https://www.sitepoint.com/php-security-blunders/, it has some good information for simple php safety, but you've probably worked through this already. But its always nice to check!
  20. You can actually generate your own rainbow tables, specifying what characters, numbers, symbols that you want to include. This would mean you don't actually have to download the rainbow tables.
  21. glad you liked it, I couldn't stop laughing after I read it the first time!
  22. The memory is 4GB DDR2 http://www.gamepc.com/ Even I think this a bit over the top, I would happily settle for less. I do like the idea of swapping a few of the monitors for a projector. Only problem is then the location.
  23. You should try imagefilez. They are part of the xisto network (the parent company of Xisto). They have a small upload feature on the top of every page at the forums. The speed is fast, very reliable - much like our websites!
  24. Welcome to Xisto! Welcome to the community, your idea of a neural network for AFL tipping is nice idea. Good Luck! Xisto is not located in Australia, but there are a few of us here (myself one). You idea sounds like a great one, good luck!-jimmy
  25. Sounds like a great move! I do have to say that I think it has made my site faster, thanks! Just a question, has e-accelerator been installed on the forums also, or just on the hosting servers?
