Best way to work with updates is download "Wordpress automatic upgrade" plugin. And enable the plugin. Once enabled it will notify whenever there is any update. I'm using current version of skype now. And i find that for video chat it is nice application. Also if we compare with MSN/Yahoo it is much better when it comes to cam feature and conference. Don't switch then, nobody said you should. Enjoy the unsecured version also stay deprived of HTML 5. We all know it eats cpu but when it comes to features we just ignore the rest. And to cler your confusion about subdomain ranking and top-level domain. You can add-on your new domain to Xisto cpanel setup. That way you can register for subdomain and later purchase and then in cpanel you can add the domain and then from there you can begin with the installation of scripts or site whatever you want.So steps are: register for sub-domain package at Xisto. Then select domain name (.com or .net etc). After that you can "Add-on" domain to the cpanel. This will setup things for you.

Currently not using any theme with background style. Just using some color changer themes. I have one gray theme for one of my account. While using purple style color theme now.those picture based backgrounds take some time to load so not worth it to use if your connection is bit slow.
