Which any entity at that stature will hardly care for it. Nah there are many threads about lockerz if i'm not wrong. It's just that moderators might have deleted it. There were many spammers in asta recently spamming with some copied posts and referral threads but they're gone now. So i'm sure 4-10 threads are likely to be there for lockerz which are not deleted. For example, there are only two ways any developer can create open-source or free software : one for the sake of building business arround it e.g wordpress, ubuntu (cannonical/automattic inc model of doing business). Second way is to solve problem which is recurring in most situation. (e.g gcc and some mail clients/ftp clients were written with this purpose.) Later developers stepped into commercial side of it or dropped the project if it's trying to survive without funding. So it was one or the other way for saving money and time (which is more valuable assets than money). As i said earlier, feeling of community is there as long as all people feel they'll get something out of that project (be it boredom killer, friends made along the way, experience, skill development or money) without purpose human-leechers don't form a group. You're talking about LHC which was conducted by CERN am i right ? This project was succesful and it is answering many questions regarding particle physics. But thing that people are worried about is that they think artificial synthetic life is impossible and so is cern experiment. They dont see the success of CERN brought to us. They're just changing the goal post of their spiritual and supernatural questions after getting the answers. really ? then why people waste money on spiritual and and church building, temple building things if there are many important questions to solve and people are starving. Besides if people htink LHC is not at all important then i'll say either they've no idea about physics or they just make comments based on news paper content. why to think about africa ? when vatican orders no condom usage for christians in vatican. increasing population doubles the issue of mankind on this planet and people think science waste money, yeah i believe ya. after all these experiments for afterlife and death, science concluded that there is no proof for afterlife. We all do it for some satisfaction or some selfish reasons. We humans are like leech if any one is giving out free without returns then people suck it off till it dies and then we forget about it as if it was never there. Truth is there is not a single product out there where developers or communtiy survives without support (be it donation/docs/coding etc). FOSS/OS are coming this far cause commercial support is behind them just drop this support and see how far they'll go and then measure the failure they're into if they can start building community on their "free-as-in-beer" terms. 2) Again back to basics, what will attract these new developers ? is it money or fame or learning experience ? or is it the inovolvement in the project just for the sake of resume ? And iphone in india now costs 14000 and not 32000/- because that was price when it was launched and after 3G which launched here in just 4 months it goes down to this price. People who afford even 32k product can't pay few hundread more for extra price ? Pricing in india is reasonable, it's just that people will always get arround it with some excuse. 1)Think again about conversion and not necessarily this conversion has to be exact as RBI conversion prices cause many software vendors have seperate price tags as per country. Wrong. Most of the people who are contributing to open source are indeed do worry about money. I think you're not aware of many projects asking for donation drives and funds. Not all developers have full time job. Take example of KDE, there are many developers who lost job in recession got work because corporate funding on KDE project. Open source is not generating money to get them jobs, it's corporate environment is feeding them. I have seen many open source projects going provate again because people using it don't even care for suggesting bugs and giving feedback, think about donation.It's miles apart. Thing about open source is people don't even care for the hardwork of developers and they don't even think of paying at all. And they use skills to help others ? nah, that's not true. They use their brain to keep their mind innovating and working in way they want. People don't help others without purpose either mental satisfaction or to keep their mind on project. People don't do things without purpose. Wrong again, you're talking about fsf(free software project) not about open source. Making money via open source and not charging money at all for software both are different concepts. Open source is used by these two ways: either make money or don't make money. People do back out of open source projects (which restricts business model in short not making money) this is because it takes money to payoff bills. I've open sourced my projects and even supported many people using it, i do got satisfaction but when it comes to making money for it to keep it alive. I know how many users of that software changed the expression on their face. Especially, in asia people are used to using free software and don't value developers who are taking their time to develop software. All they know is use things for free or get it pirated. But my point is with the free software business are not earning money they used to be. i see open source as good improvement and change in the way people do business. But because of free software people are not looking at the software with view of hardwork of developer and need for paying for it. They simply install and forget about it. How many end users even care for donating or supporting open source ? (forget the contributions that is made by developers). Unless donated or supported by companies or business man open source or free software projects don't even stand. Think about it, it kills jobs of developers on side. I used to think it is good but when it comes to making money one has to build software more effective than free software or opensource to survive. And making business arround free software is not so easy. People in asia, hardly pays for software think about they paying for support or even phone call for the product. I see this as more killing of jobs and less revenue generation model. It's okay if it solves some recurring issues that bugs almost everyone like business and individual. But if it kills jobs and limits revenue generation then it's bad.

these jobs are either in windows enivironment or any other coding field which pays in comparison to open source which pays less or nothing. i think problem is how much you can seed to a tree which gives no returns in reality but more virtual (i'm referring to money). programmers lack motivation most of time if they're doing full time job and part time open source thing. without money there will be hardly any motivation and as programming communtiy is too dense there is hard chances of getting famous in comparison to commercial environment. linux is better for server and security i have to agree and it is cheap especially in case of hosting and server side. other than that i don't find it's worth in terms of making money. what's the point in starting and shutting down faster if there are no apps for me inside .. good for normal users and surfers .. for tweaking part i don't think windows 7 needs much tweaking or anything.

Well with amazon s3 and other cloud hosting platforms the concept of file hosting is changed and so is the revenue generation model. earlier they used to chare huge fee for data trasnfered but these days they transfer flat fee for the file hosted and downloaded. that makes it quite affordable for many sites to start their own hosting service.

well yordan i do use personal computer for things other than internet. this is because when i go to my grandfathers place i can't access internet there because it is in town area. so there is limite distribution of internet lines and telephone. you can guess people still use computer without internet. i try to connect using gprs but with poor speed i can hardly manage to chkc mails. so there is life without internet for some pc owners @simpleton, with development and possibility of things on linux i'm quite dissapointed with the community. there is hardly any money making chances in linux or free software world. so though it is slow i prefer windows these days. slow booting is fine for me comparing to no programs/boring environment in linux.

Issue with NFS games is that the graphics is ever demanding. With each release of NFS the requirement for graphics is going high up in the air. And this way me or the most of the people can't keep up with such high graphics games anymore. I don't know how other gamers manage to keep upgrading their cards everytime heavy graphics games launch.

Thing about windows 7 is it is stripped down vista. or maybe more. i think most of the whistles and issues of the vista are removed from windows 7 and there is nothing more they offered in the release. In anycase, it boots up much better than vista. I'm not sure about old system though. It works fine with 700+MB ram on most of the machines. 1GB RAM for the windows 7 is recommended so i think upgrading is good option for you.

Hmm in that case my booting time is way too much. cause once i log in it is taking time. though i can get browser to work immediately but explorer and drives take to appear on explorer so it's taking more time to load. other programs can load immediately and run as well but typical windows program take more time to load. i think this has something to do with services and some programs installed on the system.

Ermm, i'm talking about first time upto the login screen appears. After that it takes more than minute to let that mouse to get me working with start menu. it's getting slow after i login to desktop but before that speed is fast. I guess this is because of the some programs loading and enabling some services. I have sony erricson gprs service which enables 5 more services and is taking much time on the desktop. other than that USB service is also taking time to load. That's why i think i've limited things to do in my hand.

Well if this type of mobile sms service works without asking us our mobile number then i'll think about it. But some of the sites and add-ons ask us for the number so looks quite risky. There are some sites which let you do this without using your own phone number like 160by2 and way2sms etc. They restrict the service by 2 sms per IP. These type of services are good and can be reliable for us but not sure about the number which is entered in database. This is because they could use your number to spam and to sell to some ad aganecies. this is what i have observed so far.

I think it's less than a minute with 1.25 GB RAM but it takes more than minute when it gets into desktop. It tries to load all those crappy programs and services which can't be disabled from the task manager or such utilties. these programs just dependent on each other and hog dekstop loading time. duh, not sure how to start those services only when needed. :/

I think Aptana which is stripped down version of eclipse is one good editor and it doesn't need installation. You can run it from USB. But these days i think dreamweaver and Notepad++ are enough for most of the languages. There are some other editors like mozila and Ultraedit and some other but i think notepad++ is one free and good solution. Visual studio and netbeans are heavy and not even worth for opening small files for editing. It takes a lot of time for doing simple tasks in these big IDE's. So notepad++ and ultra edit are good for such tasks. Ultraedit IDE/Editor is paid by the way.

Agree with yordan. There are many debates on physics vs chemistry but just for the records if chemistry is useless or even at lower staure than physics. How many attributes of liquid are best studied under chemistry and not physics ? alkali and other attributes are studied under physics ? *ahem* not worth spending time reading such school level thinking.
