Build Your Own Custom Linux Distro [on Suse Studio]
mahesh2k replied to ysNoi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You started with MAC OSX ? MAC wasn't on UNIX platform for earlier versions so the terminal that you see today was not there before. Many people are using mac from old OS 8/9 days and they definitely find compiling and terminal thing difficult. Afterall, mac was keeping users away from such thing like terminal, compilation and repositories. Take case of GCC which we use in LFS, was it there for mac or windows ? in default installation ? it wasn't. -
<br /><br /><br /> As if i'm going to work for cry babies ? People who have low budget should not expect designer to cover mobile plus dekstop browser compatiblity. If they still want to persist with crying then they should design their own site. It's way better than crying about designers to do job carefully or so-called properly at low cost.

Not too hard ? 0.o Linux from scratch is for intermediate or advanced users and not at all for newbies. Those who are new to linux, packages and compiling will learn it the easy way from LFS ? No. I guess you're saying that because you're intermediate user. I tried to teach few noobs and found it hard to explain to them. Anyone from windows or mac side if gets into compiling from scratch will surely find LFS borign and annoying and completely hard. -
Does Using Copied Content Affect Your Serp?
mahesh2k replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The reason two duplicate copies exist on front page is because google can't decide the original between the two. If you put copied text on one site linking to the original source then google discards the second which points to the original. If you don't then google algorithm gets confused and then rank the pages based on backlinking, social buzz and other factors that keep the link from certain domain at the top. If the content is copied then adsense gives a lot of penalty and you can verify that with hubpages users on how duplicate content affects. Though some people do mix duplicate content from various sites and act like syndicator but they don't get authority as search engine's favorite resource. The reason penalty for duplicate content or syndicated content is not mentioned because people can then create such resource and knock each other out of front page. So google never mentions with what you get penalty to avoid the market competition crushing each other. -

Linux from scratch is not newbie friendly. It takes a lot of time for beginners to understand what is going on and what are the things that really go with the linux distro. Instead suse makes things easy by showing what you need and what you get out of the customization. This thing is way better than the linux from scratch distro that you can think of here. Just few clicks instead of whole analyzing linux distro and making bare minimum out of it type thing. -
By the way DOSBOX can be installed on linux. So using dosbox you can install some old dos games like mario, bomberman and others with help of two emulators. You can search for useful emulators link on wikipedia. Some good working emulators are mentioned in the list of wikipedia.

Two Simple Seo Points I Am Not Clear About.

HTML 5 is now mature and works on firefox and chrome out of the box. I don't know how old article you've gone through. But it's enough mature that apple took decision of dumping FLASH completely out of their platform. So there you go HTML 5 is coming with some serious development. If not sure then you can browse websites which mention HTML 5 tutorials and you'll get the idea of how many things are possible with it. -
Well i don't blame designer for charging 8k. Think about it, people have high thoughts of design and they bombard it on designer. And what's wrong if he charges that much high ? not all top brands sites look great on multiple browsers. You think apple site look good on opera mini ? tea shark ? Site that looks OK on chrome and firefox rarely looks good on IE. In fact my theme breaks on IE, but i don't care for it. Visitors if not bringing me some money or value in return i dont care much about what looks good for them. Mobile themes also breaks revenue stream and many mobile themes are not ready for text ads based display. So in my opinion you can only judge display based on desktop's dominant browser. Not from mobile or other display browsers on devices because there are again many mobile or device browsers which breaks the design. What to expect from designer ?

LOL. You find studies boring ? well you're not alone. I've degree in electronics and communication engineerign and i found the exams, system and studies boring too. Even i studied in last two months and got better results. The reason i said flash was time consuming was -depending on your diagrams and figures in anatomy. It'll take a lot of time to arrange and put things together for other people. In between why not look at HTML 5, it's better investment of time than flash. And it'll not go waste unlike other programming languages. About paid themes, you can check official theme sites like diythemes.com or studiopress.com and headwaythemes.com. All these three theme frameworks are perfect for the professional sites. Oh and you can see many demo sites using these framework. Pick any one framework out of three and you're all set for powerful wordpress theme for your static site. -
No need to do the job properly. If you have 1 or 0 traffic from devices then there is no need to use mobile device themes at all. The reason is many people don't surf using mobile on some sites and many niches are still on it that get no mobile traffic at all. Web designers if waste their time thinking about such hypothetical visitors then there is loss of money. Site should be build for browsers and not for specific devices or it's resolution.

A Cheap Domain Name. Registars with low prices.
mahesh2k replied to zenia's topic in Websites and Web Designing
.co.cc and co.cz or cz.cc are the domains which are neglected usually by professional marketers and ad network. Google also places less importance on such domains. Instead spend some money on .us or other regional domain names. By the way never ever by anything frm 1and1 sites. You'll regret your purchase for sure. -

I thought so that you're from medical background and will rarely do much with PHP or any programming language which builds web pages as long term goal. Flash based content is bit tricky. It has less SEO advantages, though not completly neglected. You can use videos with sitemaps in order to let search engine crawl the content. You can add flash based content to say anatomy for beginners etc type of lessons. But mind you, these flash based lessons or content will take a lot of time of your life. It's not suggested if you have less time from your medical studies. About navigation, i think you should move to paid themes or frameworks which lets you customize these easily. Why paid ? because you get good framework to do things and next you get lot of free support on their forums. Just make sure you get enough money from adsense and then to paypal to get hold of paid themes. Definitely recommended if you want to cut your time wastage on design and themes, wordpress support etc. -
I'm currently working in area from where i can't ask for landline or what they say broadbad connection. I do have option to choose satellite phone or USB wifi or 3G USb connection. I found these options costly and adding up to my spending. So in order to minimize the spending i'm using mobile GPRS connection to connect to internet. Sometimes i use it on mobile while most of the time i prefer to login from the desktop itself. Opera Mini is improved a lot and those who are using mobile will tell you how much it is improved. If you soon get into place where you can't use laptop or dekstop then do take a look at that browser.

Until and unless i get 100 dedicated mobile users per day on my analytics i'm not going to worry about it. And after this goal i think i'll just use wordpress mobile theme switcher for the user. This is handy in case if any mobile user logs in to my site. But looking at the way people browse on the web and the results which are related to the site that i develop, i rarely get any mobile user. Most of the users surf my topics on desktop or ipad or similar big display device. This is because of the topics. I think mobile users these days use browser for desperate search queries or some info that they want to clarify immediately.

I don't think you're wrong in adding content first and then moving for promotion. I think it is good approach if you have 50 pages or so. Then you can surely move for the promotion if that is what you want. About menus and navigation - i think you moved with your view of how navigation should be and that is likely to create some problem. You have to take reader feedback in your domain or from some layman who browse typical sites. This way you can get idea for good navigational structures. Search is not necessary as of now if you have good navigation and the way to move around site. You can insert HTML sitemap plugin if you want sitemap page at the bottom or at the top. Learning PHP is definitely advantage but if it's not going to help you long term then just learning about themes is enough IMO. You don't need to dig too deep in order to understand wordpress core and themes, many PHP newbies or those who don't know PHP can code themes or work around PHP and wordpress. Spend more time on your site instead of learning PHP if it's not advantageous to you in longer term. -
Not sure which other language you want to mix, for example flash, HTML 5 or javascript etc ? If you're new then spend some time with Flash or with HTML 5. I'm sure there are plenty of games tutorial for 2D browser based games. If not then you can always start from scratch and then move on to do your own way. There are some language frameworks that can help you get more out of MMORPG or 2D if that is what you want from the browser based engines. My personal opinion is to start with HTML 5 or flash whichever is good for your needs. If flash is all you want then by all means go for it.

If not personal, may i ask what you're trying to achieve with SEO for your site ? Not that i want to know but to make sure you're not wasting time in methods or practices which are not going to work is why i want to know. There are plenty of ways with which things don't work these days - for example, on hubpages if you don't backlink they're performing well while for personal site without backlink your site can't even move inch further. So that is the reason i would like to know what are your objectives when it comes to SE and your site Man anatomy. If your site has credible and original information then i can tell you that even wikipedia can link to you. -
Many images are uploaded by users without further info and it needs maintenance. Some users do job of uploading images and leave wikipedia cause they just wanted to see the source image so that it could help others. Wikipedia village pump can answer your question on what to do with those image. If in doubt log in to wikipedia and ask them about it. I'm sure someone will answer your query if not open thread on other forums where people deal with images.

How To Copy File & Folders From Linux To Windows?.
mahesh2k replied to kanade's topic in Websites and Web Designing
By any chance you're working with system files or hidden files. If hidden files are set to not viewable i winodws then not matter which file is that will not be viewable. Also some system files can't be copied or edited so that could be one more reason. As far as i know, this could be the reason for not able to copy or view the files in USB drive. -
I don't know how much oracle will put effort into mysql anymore. I mean how much this release took for public stable ? i guess more than 6 months, which is not good sign. Java still looks the same, nothing much improved AFAIK, only more support added to JavaFX.
-
Yes, because i see there are many developers branching out from their free source community. they're planning about foundation and are thinking to pull almost entire community there. But question remains as how they're going solve issues of money and organization. I'm sure oracle will lure few to keep project going but even if they create new foundation what are chances of that software remaining alive. After delicious, java and many other software getting sold or shut down made me wonder about it.

mahesh2k replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Search Engines
Don't expect immediate results from SERP's. Your site will be taken as authority because of the way you are posting content. Now don't forget to email me or PM me after 6 months when you see your site as authority. Remember google is refining the results everyday and what i see in page 1 is not what you see -because instant search results and algorithm is changing result page for every person based on IP, Cookies and google history results. I think your study of getting high ranks for individual page is wrong IMO. Why ? because some dynamic blogs can rank better than your site if you keep on building static content without links between them. So you need to build internal links between pages in order to show updated content. Google likes dynamic and updated content. For static and authority content google has list of trustrank sites, wikipedia sites pages (which are usually interlinked) why should your static content rank higher ? think about it. If it was that case for ranking higher, blogs would have never made it to top results of SERPS. When your pages or content increases google puts more trust on you for quality content with backlinks, so this is where dynamic content plays role. Dynamic as in updated, not as static vs dynamic CMS. Hope that clears. -
By the way when we're going to get updated version of mysql on our Cpanel. I'm noticing this lately that many softwares in asta/Xisto - Web Hosting seems to be outdated. I would love to test this new version if it becomes available online with phpmyadmin. Looking at the way, mysql is maintained by oracle. Is it worth moving away from it ? to something like postgreSQL or any other sql ?

First important block in SEO is content, without which everything is useless. You can copy content from other sites but that will make you copy-cat in eyes of readers and search engine. Google can easily catch you and will make you harder to stay on top of results. So 'Original' content is very important, you can rehash content in your own words but make it more descriptive so that search engines can favor you. Second, you need social proof that your site is good. You need to ask your readers to spread word about your site using twitter, facebook or other social sites. It's very small aspect in SE optimization but it's important. Third, you need backlinks. Again these backlinks are supposed to be relevant. You can get backlink for say your site on PSP from pet forums or medicine forums but that link will have less value. Also generalized forums and directory carry less value. But if you get link from say sony forums to your PSP site then your site's trust will improve. Fourth, don't spam anyone or any site. You can see from previous points that unless you spam it's hard to achieve success. But it's not so. You can take your time for building backlinks and social proof. Fifth, stop chasing people who are knowledgeable about seo and web. I mean even stop taking advice from me after some time, do your own thing and ask or look for advice only when you get stagnate with results. Otherwise spend maximum time for building your web property or blog or site. Spend 80% building content and trust and leave only 20% time for backlinks and other SEO stuff.
