Ps2 Not Recognising Psone Disks? Cannot read them?...
Cool_Freaker posted a topic in Computer Gaming
Only recently have I had problems with my PS2... I tried playing Final Fantasy VIII, but somehow it doesn't work. I'm sure I have played FFVIII on my PS2 before, without any hassle, however when I try now, I can hear the disk going *criiiish*. The disk spins around and I think the laser is trying to read it, or move around the disk. When I do finally eject it after no activity on the screen, it seems to me like the edges have been scratched in a circular pattern by the Playstation 2. Is this possible? I know the disks were in very good condition before hand, and are still pretty good now, nothing compared to some of the really bad disks I have of Need for Speed: Hot Persuit and Tekken 3.Incidentally, only some games don't work properly. Namely, the Final Fantasies are having issues, 7, 8 and 9. I am inserting the first disk, and I have played all three on my Playstation 2 before. Also, other PSone disks work fine. They're all real disks and same region, and the Playstation has not moved an inch from it's spot - it hasn't been wet, dropped or anything. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? -
I like Johnny's, it's got a much bolder look, and with the squares, and brushing has really made it stand out. The font is nice too, though perhaps not exactly blended with the sig, I don't see much that could have been done with it though, and it certainly doesn't look out of place. The face is just a bonus :DDamann, your best one yet though. Nice soft brushing and text feels good. Just try not to have bits hanging over the edge. I just felt the style was a bit overused (ie soft brushing over 3d render), and the green/grey soft colour is also overused for that style. However, it works, which is why it's used so much.

Age Of Empires 2 if you want to talk just come in
Cool_Freaker replied to Megaman's topic in Computer Gaming
Heard the PS2 version was utter rubbish anyway. Though, at EB, the preowned version was worth about $99, because *apparantly* it's rather rare, as it didn't sell well enough for the factory to churn out another batch. I saw someone try to buy it and the shop assistant was like: "Are you sure?" -_-Celts are good mainly for their siege weapons, but I'm much more of a Teuton fan. I was never really into the Age II campaigns, I rather play Random Map or Death Match online... -
Damann, apart from your current sig, the text on all the rest are absolutely terrible. Remember, use anti aliasing, and if the text doesn't stand out enough try a shadow or glow. You could also try getting a larger range of fonts at http://www.dafont.com/de/ Johnny, love the first one. The Gundam one could do with a border, and somehow it just seems proportionately weird... maybe the colours and text don't quite work.. The Bond (?) one is just stylish

The Mirrors are REAAALLLY slow. I had to use a download manager to download off several mirrors at once. It's definitely better than Runescape, but it's really just another one of those thousands of download RPG's that are out there.

Bit too monotone, the brushing seems pixellated. Though generally it seems to be fairly well presented. I would suggest letting the render stand out more, if you really wanted to include more of it, perhaps try having some transperant areas with part of the render sticking out.

Yes, just make sure it's in Image ready. You just select the slice and I think you can right click, or do something with slice properties. Rollovers or not, it shouldn't make a difference.
-
Just start from step 3, fill the black on the new layer, and continue from there. You should ensure your sig does have a fairly light background and dark contrasting text though.

Depends on the conditions, I'm pretty sure I've read of people doing it before, though you really have to be into it, and have waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time. When you say all, do you mean including Mystic Quest, Legend (s) and Tactics (Advance)? If you've played through all of them before, it's much easier and faster to do it a second time. Also you can speed play, when you know where stuff is. I have to say, though, by going through an FF without training (ie wasting time to go out and continue battling), you have to be half decent .Also if you're playing the ROMs on PC you can just speed up the emulation speed, which is cheating for at least the earlier FF's . Oh and considering Final Fantasy XI's an MMORPG, you'd have to be top in the game before you'd have really beaten them "all".

Basically, Kingdom Hearts was originally released in Japan, then brought to the US. The US version had several extra bosses, like in the coliseum and synthesis items or something, just some little additions. The people in Japan wanted them too, so Square released Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix in Japan with all the US additions, and a few more extras. It won't come out in the US, as it would be kinda silly, considering it's almost exactly the same game. I'm pretty sure Final Mix adds an optional boss or two, and maybe an ability or something. Nothing to really get excited about unless you live and breathe Kingdom Hearts and have completed KH and KH:Chain of Memories 100% down to the last item, level and boss. But lil_cutie, if you do get your hands on it let me know what the features are exactly

I know quite a few people who have had problems getting things like custom brushes, filters etc, bascially all the add-on things, for Elements. So if you think you'll *need* more than the basic set and perhaps a few others, CS/7 are more suitable. But as everyone has said, Elements is great value for money.

Yep, Gunbound is entertaining for a while. I found it best, though, if you have some friends (internet or RL) who can play with you on the same team, as quite often randoms can suck. A lot.I did find it irritating after a while though, as there are hackers everywhere, even though they update the hacking-prevention system all the time (which = waiting for update/download before you can play). Also, I managed to get to Double Metal Axe, which disallows me from playing in the Beginner Rooms, but when I play in the Open ones, I either always get kicked for having too low a "Axe Rank", or the teams are stacked, ie high ranks on one team, low ranks on the other = easy win for high ranks. But those complaints aside, it's free, cute, and provided you have some patience and friends is very enjoyable.

The problem with Xbox's online gameplay is that you have to pay subscription. If I'm correct Sony hasn't yet introduced this, and may be a factor in the lower quality of service. I'm pretty sure the Playstation 2 has it's own 3D driver thing which is similar to DirectX...I guess people forgot to mention the Emotion Engine thing (or whatever that pre-release advertising was). In terms of games, there are only several games I would specifically buy an Xbox for: namely Halo/s, Fable, and perhaps Conker (when it comes out). On the PS2, you have the Final Fantasy series and other Square games, GT, Jak, Rachet/Clank, Tekken, while GTA and MGS gets released first on it. Don't forget that Sony is BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG. They are in Music, Movies, Home Entertainment, dang, the lot. I'm sure their budget is not going to be a whole lot different to Microsoft, especially since they're competing head to head, they're not going to skimp on the cash and produce an inferior machine.

Yep, Johnny pretty much nailed it there. I'd just like to add though, it's usually best if you fill on a new layer, and change the blending option to something like overlay, or alternatively just lower the opacity. You can do the same thing to make dots, scanlines and boxes (not grids, but boxes instead of dots). It just depends on what shape you make when you define the pattern.
-
Don't make it so monotone, I think you may have been better off leaving the render it's original colour. Any sort of border would tidy it up also. Not too bad for a first effort.

When you're just starting...:1. Go for the spray weapons with low recoil. I would recommend M4A1 (colt) with silencer, or MP5. The MP5 is great, even when the opposition is using rifles.2. When using a spray weapon like the MP5, remember to continuously run around randomly, or run out from cover and run back in. 3. If using a higher recoil weapon, crouch just to the side of cover, so you can quickly retreat back.4. Generally, when you start, camping won't help much, as you probably don't quite have the reflexes or aim. Try moving around, and ambushing.5. Follow your teammates if you want to live. Follow in mid-end pack, make sure you don't stand in doorways and block people though, as they will get pissed. Let your teammates take off health of the enemy (and/or die), and go out and nail the target. It may be called kill stealing, but in public servers, everyone does it, and you just gotta get used to it, if you missed the kill it means your not fast enough.6. Learn the maps. You don't need to know them all, nor know them like the back of your hand. As long as you know from which directions the T's will come, and where are good places to ambush or camp if required.

Final Fantasy And Other Rpg's Fanatics discuss all the newest RPGs
Cool_Freaker replied to Megaman's topic in Computer Gaming
Square has always had a history of late releases though. Even so, I can't believe how far they pushed Kingdom Hearts 2, I mean, a Japanese (or any) release isn't slated until after Christmas? If they let it go on too long, hype dies down, hell, if Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was released a few months ago they would have had it at its peak Even so, you can't complain when you compare it to the Gran Turisomo series and Polyphonic (forget name), remember how Gran Turismo 3 was supposed to be Gran Turismo 2000 or something , and yeah as you said about GT4. I think it may have been scheduled to be released even earlier than Nov 2004. Look at Final Fantasy X-2 though. I'm pretty sure that was released fairly on-time, and the end result was not really all that satisfying now, was it? -
Final Fantasy Tactics the best race to have
Cool_Freaker replied to toilet95's topic in Computer Gaming
Never played Tactics, though on Tactics Advance, I know you start with a balanced party with all the races. From then on, any members you get depends on which Moon it is etc, so unless you know how to manipulate that, it's all random from then on.Though I must say each class is suited for different things. Nu Mou are definitely magic, Humans are Magic/Attack, Moogles are best for Gunners/Thieves (fast little dudes), Bangaa are Physical Attack stuff, Viera - more for anything ranged.Best to have a mix, though if I had to have a party of just one type, I'd go Moogle, as it has the greatest number of classes, and they're just so cute. -
Best final fantasy game Best final fantasy game
Cool_Freaker replied to tidal 258's topic in Computer Gaming
Well to summarise very generally, there's an evil corporation called Shinra who's extracting power from the planet (life stream or sommat - it's also where Materia comes from). You, as Cloud, are a former employee, and at the beginning joined a bunch of rebels/terrorists/environmentalists who wanna stop this. You gradually find out more about the real truth behind the planet, and the mysterious Sephiroth, who was the strongest soldier ever known, and his connection to the planet, to Cloud etc.Don't want to really spoil it by explaining in greater detail - though I must say you really have to pay attention, and read theories/stories on the net, as it really is about as clear as mud to understand, as intricate as it is. I could never do well in that darn skipping game in FF9. I swear I spent over an hour just doing it, but not getting over 10. -
Yes Yet Another Crappy Sig From Me.
Cool_Freaker replied to Se?or Maniac's topic in Art & Creativity
Yeah, a bit simple. I reckon it would be nice if it were a light blue, with the perception light was coming through water...Even if the image is dark we should be able to see the border on the bottom right... anyway, if you're using Photoshop, just open the JPG/PNG file, Select All, Stroke 1px Black. It makes a difference -
I agree, Call of Duty was definitely short, though it seems Infinity Ward went for quality rather than quantity. I really enjoyed the just about all the single player missions, though some of the British ones were a bit laborious. Just out of interest, how much longer is Medal of Honour: Allied Assault?

C'mon Aussies... General discussion
Cool_Freaker replied to theRealSheep's topic in General Discussion
Never saw this part of the forum before... I probably need to change my profile.I've always been more of an AFL fan myself, even though I'm in Brisbane (though it's picking up thanks to some recent successes by the Lions), as I spent quite a few years in Melbourne... Royal visits are really a bit of a waste, but yeah there was a lot of attention on Mary when she was around. Most likely it has something to do with how she just recently became royal, and that she was previously just a normal Australian. Not to mention she (and her husband) so far seem to be very gracious towards the public. -
I'd say add a simple border and some nice bold text and it will be a cute little sig
