  1. wow...I read through the instructions...and I think I'd better take a few more comp classes before I think about attempting anything big with this project. Of course, me not being a gamer, and not needing anything with which to stream Mp3s, I'd only be installing a very bare bones version, so doing this woulndt be so hard. And to think...the approx. $300 USD that i'd spend on this project could more than cover the TiVo fees in just a short time! Thanks serverph!
  2. Personally...I'd go with neither of the two. I do have a better suggestion actually. :DI favor the XMB board. It's quite nice, especially since the Nexus version was released. XMB is opensource freeware like PhpBB, but has all of the easy controls like Invision. There are a wide variety of hacks and mods for XMB and the support at the forum is quite solid. The admin CP is very easy to navigate, and all of the mod controls are a breeze to use.On the outside, the XMB board looks more like an Invision board, and changing the skins is very, very easy....unlike PhpBB. It's also easier to install and get running than PhpBB.
  3. I leave my PC off when I'm at my classes or work, but from the time I come home to basically the time I go to sleep, it's on. That's usually from 7-10 hours a day. I usually just let it go into standby mode. But, I did leave my PC on for 48 hours once when I was downloading something huge. I guess I should just shut it off more. *shrugs*

    Hi Everyone!

oh, I really don't mind doing a few posts every few days here... I have time for that. I just don't have time for the kind of forums where they want you to do 25 + posts a week to keep up your site.I'm from New England, btw. I'm a little paranoid, so I won't say where exactly for now. I usually dont give away personal information like that until I'm very comfortable with a board. I'm still new here.
  5. aw... that bites. I can do at least 10-15 good posts in a day if I'm in a good mood. and they aren't spammish, either. Oh well. I really want this hosting, so I'll do what I must.
  6. My favorite bands at the moment are Linkin Park, Evanescence, Hoobastank, and Velvet Revolver. I also really like Good Charlotte, GreenDay, and NFG.Really though, I think the best bands on the list are Evanescence and Linkin Park. Neither of them are exactly within a genre, and both have very original sounds.
  7. me, I sorta do none of the above. I just kinda get really introverted and quiet. Then I eat a little chocolate, and go somewhere where people can't bother me. I'm clinically depressed, so I can't really help myself too much. But one thing I do reccommend you is avioding listening to sad music and try to eat a lot of chocolate. A doctor told me that it contains a really tiny amount of anti-depressant in it, so eating it can cheer you up a little.
  8. I was just wonderinf if there was anyone frome Southern New England in this place, especially Rhode Islanders? NE is just kinda a crazy, parochial, provinical little place...especially where I live...The leaves this time of year are awfully pretty. It's just kinda depressing, because you know that you get practically 6 months of winter before you get any spring weather right after.
  9. Simply put, this place rocks. But i'm sure most of us have been hosted by places that haven't. So, here's your opportunity to vent all you want about how utterly useless and crappy they were/still are. Here's the lists of former hosting companies on my eternal blacklist:Tripod: utterly useless, even for a newb. Too many ads, too slowDistanthost.com: my former favorite webhost...until they started with this crap about mandatory ad-clikcing. And then collapsed into a fiery hole of embezzlement and bankruptcy (no kidding there, either), leaving me with no good host for my site...for 6 mo.!Shyper.com: I was just there last week. I had them hosting me for a few weeks...then they delete my account without any explanation, and leave me cold. I didn't violate any of the TOS, bend or break any rules, or use up too much space/bandwidth. they just deleted me. So, they must die.
  10. who watches that stuff? well, half the mindless zombies in my grade do... :coughidiotscough:I really dispise reality television, especially makeover shows. I mean really, what do shows like "the Swan" say about our culture these days? It's gross and disgraceful, really.
  11. I use Norton Anti-Virus on my computer. I also run Ad-Aware for the spyware/adware issues. They both work pretty decently, though I thik that Norton might be slowing down my web-browsing. Sometimes, it will ask permission to scan certain pages, and doesnt let them load until I clikc ok....its rather irritating.
  12. I have AOL Instant Messanger, but that's just because it defaulted with the software. Normally, I don't chat very much, but I do find it very easy to use and customize. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I cant put up my own Icons...or at least i havn't figured out how to do that yet.
  13. I'm so poor that Ihave to use a faulty, antiquated Microsoft Picture It! Photo Premium 2002. I'm saving up the money for Jasc Paint Shop Pro, though. I'ld like Photoshop, but I can't afford it.MPIPP is decent, but it doesn't do half the stuff I'd like it to. And I can't put borders on my stuff, so that really ticks me off.
  14. Personally, I hate pop-ups. Even though I have AOL, and that blocks them, they can still be really annoying. The reason why I go for adless-webhosting is so my site members and visitors don't have to deal with that stuff. Not only are they annoying, but they make people want to come to your site even less, too. Anyone who say, is running I.E., and doesnt have the liberty of getting a popup blocker (say if you netsurf out of a library..) can get buried in popups. which really bites.

    Need Free Ftp Client

I would highly recommend FTP Explorer. It is freeware, and it's very convenient. I havn't had any problems with it, and the setup of it is very good for people unused to FTP. here's the url: http://www.ftpx.com/
