I reckon you guys are refering to this model: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_v3i-1352.php I am not really a fan of flip phones. I like how the Sony Ericsson W890 looks and it is very slim, 104 x 46.5 x 9.9 mm but I guess I have to wait a while before this phone is released.

I have already paid the payment but where can I find out how much hosting time I have left, the same goes for my domain too?

Though I am using Leopard on a Mac, I still install Windows XP (there is a reason why it's not Windows Vista) via bootcamp on my other partition. I bought the home edition off a store for SGD 143, quite pricey if you ask me, it costs slightly more than a Vista basic. The most ridiculous thing that happened was that the serial key was pasted on the package's plastic, and due to my carelessness, I threw it away. As a result, I had to call up Microsoft and thankfully they regenerated my serial key at no extra charge. Though the blame properly comes down to me solely, I find it extremely weird that they would paste something so sensitive on the package's plastic.

The importance of the home page is really irrelevant to me, since I always navigate away from it. But I have Apple set as the default home page, not that I always visit it whenever I open Safari. But at least I will know if there are new products being showcased like the recent Macbook Air.

Can anyone at Xisto - Web Hosting confirm whether are they going to support PHP 5 in the near future? At least within the next 3 months?

I echo the thoughts of bk2070, but probably not to such a far version. For your information, the upcoming popular CMS: WordPress 2.5 has a minimum requirement of PHP 4.3, and currently we are using 4.3.7, that isn't very far away isn't it? I really love Xisto - Web Hosting and I have just renewed my plan with them. But if things are not rectified, I am afraid by the time WordPress releases 2.6, it will require a higher version of PHP which Xisto - Web Hosting can't provide, I will be forced to look for another webhost. Xisto - Web Hosting has my underlying support, but only if they are taking into consideration what I am writing here.

Great, just the person I am looking for, I need some advice on Joomla and I hope you will be able to answer some of the questions I have.

I have a problem, my WordPress related posts are not very popular for some reason amongst the local community, probably because there are not many technically inclined visitors interested in WordPress. How do you actually add post to Digg? I know Technorati has a ping service, and everything is pretty automated once you set your posts to ping technorati when it is published.

Ever since I got my Sony Ericsson K800i, I have been out of touch with the releases of new phones. I am looking for something opposite of what my K800i was. I want a slim, decent looking and relatively quick processing phone, it does not need to have a 3 MP camera or more, it does not need to have so much of space either. I just want one which I am able to text and call efficiently, that is the purpose of my phone. Anything else, I have my iPod and Sony T100 for it.

This phone is drop dead gorgeous but after seeing what the other reviews said about this phone, I am skeptical as to whether I should be spending any amount of money on this. Just take a look at the number of negative comments about it: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_s500-reviews-1983.php It is astonishing.

WoW has got to be my choice, I have been pretty addicted to the game ever since I got it a month ago. And my monthly recurring payment has started. The game is very addictive and though it gets frustrating when alliance players just kill you when you are a quarter healthy, it is good fun nonetheless. I wouldn't mind paying for it because it has convinced me, eagerly awaiting the 3rd expansion though. I am at level 38 now, hopefully time permits to play more regularly.

I actually like 2 applications: Mozilla Thunderbird and Mail in Mac OSX Leopard. I used to use Thunderbird on my PC and Mail now that I am using a Mac. The interface is very easy to understand and use comfortably, and I like it that it is able to store my RSS Feeds, so whenever something new comes up, I would instantly know since the number of newly received unread mail is shown on my dock next to my Mail icon. However a big drawback about Mail is that it sometimes misunderstands the content of the email and presume it to be junk mail, not that it is a big issue but it gets irritating after a while when I have to keep flagging the email to be non-junk. Other than that, I love Mail a lot and will continue to use it.

The easiest way to do this is definitely installing XAMPP, run the services and there you go, put the files in the appropriate folder and you can view PHP pages instantly on your local machine. The other way I would go around previewing my code is to upload it directly on my host, but then again it isn't very bandwidth friendly with the number of times you are going to preview the page.

Windows, Linux Or Mac Osx? Which OS do u prefer.
darran replied to jlrr94's topic in Operating Systems
I have only used Windows (XP and the older versions like Windows 98, 2000) and Mac OSX Leopard. I have since forgotten what I liked most about 98 or 2000 because I have been using XP. But that was until January when I finally moved over to the Mac platform. Windows XP is just like what it is, simple to use but far too many exploits and I can find so many flaws in that OS which Leopard effectively fixes. The problem and concern about a Mac is the lack of software on it, but just how many types of applications do you want to have? Mac has the major applications like Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, the Adobe family. Though the Mac does not support many games, you have Boot Camp for that, to play PC platform games on a Mac. Personally I like how Leopard works as compared to Windows XP. Opening tonnes and tonnes of windows which are spread out over 4 different spaces. If I were to have these windows on XP, I will probably clutter my taskbar with an uncountable number of windows. I work more efficiently on a Mac than on Windows. When a certain application crashes, it doesn't affect the entire system, just the concerned application. I could give you more reasons why Leopard is definitely better than any Windows OS. The best part about Leopard is that you do not need 2GB of RAM to run it smoothly. But moving to a Mac OS at first wasn't easy, using cmd+click instead of right click took some getting used to as well as some of the other combinations which I am so familiar in XP. If you ever use Leopard, you won't regret it. -
Coder Or Designer? HELP ME SOLVE THIS DILEMMA
darran replied to phill3112's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Now now let's not generalize, I use dreamweaver to make websites, and they are to w3 standards and I always test on Safari, FireFox and IE. Though I am using the code mode and not the designer mode. I like to think of javascript as a language based on a browser because we do have the ability to turn off javascript. PHP on the other hand is a server language and we do not have the flexibility of turning that off. That is why we should never depend too much on Javascript in our websites, though the web is progressing in that aspect with mootools, jquery and scriptaculous and other javascript frameworks. Not to mention one of the most common technologies: Ajax is making use of javascript -
I am a little confused on this programming language. I do know of PHP, ASP, JSP ... etc are used for server scripting and Java for software development. But what field does Python and Ruby actually work on? The founder of WordPress did mention about Python in an interview with Yahoo!. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Here is the website: https://handbrake.fr/ It is available on 3 platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux). I am not very sure about AVI, but according to the website, AVI is supported as one of its output formats along with MP4, MKV and OGM. When I ripped the video for my iPod, I chose the high resolution preset and it was being viewed at a very high resolution. It works both ways, I can view it in stunning detail on my computer and also view it nicely in my iPod. Hope this helps.

You can try HandBrake, it is an open source converter which I use to convert my DVDs to a format readable by my iPod.

What Music Software Do You Use To Play Music?
darran replied to saitunes's topic in General Discussion
I have always been using iTunes to play music. However the problem of using iTunes in Windows is that for some reason the scrolling of songs is a little draggy compared to using it on a Mac. I can't really find any fault with iTunes, it has an attractive clean layout, synchronizes with my iPod and above all it really organizes my music according to the artist name, song title, album title as well as track number. Saves me lots of time reorganizing like how I used to do with Windows Media Player. -
Coder Or Designer? HELP ME SOLVE THIS DILEMMA
darran replied to phill3112's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you are looking to create webpages which are 'standard', in other words with good 'grammar'. Using the design view of Dreamweaver just won't cut it. The problem with websites nowadays is that not every browser can display a website the same way as the other, and it is very important to adhere to good grammer as it goes a long way in ensuring your site will more or less display the same way in every browser. Of course this is not definite, there are bound to be some glitches. You cannot escape coding in websites, more often than not, those websites created entirely from the visual designer in Dreamweaver are websites with poor 'grammar' which are not going to be understood accurately by web browsers. As a result, these browsers will try to interpret your website and do not be surprised if your site looks entirely different when you put them through Internet Explorer and FireFox. Take the guy's advice here, learn HTML and CSS first, after that you can go further deeper into JavaScript and other server languages like PHP, ASP, JSP ... etc A good website for beginners is W3Schools but of course do not use that as a learning guide, just take it as an introduction to what you are about to learn. -
I was starting to get pessimistic that nobody was ever going to reply to the thread. I think you have misunderstood what I am asking. I am able to come up with my own design, I am only concerned about the integration of the modules into my template and how to customize a site template for use in Joomla. I would appreciate any help.

The issue about Macs are that you pay for the OS more than anything else. You could be paying a SGD 3,200 for a Mac when you can get a high performance PC for SGD 2,000. It all boils down to the OS, I personally would not mind paying SGD 1,200 more for a lower spec computer with a much superior OS in my opinion. Though the starting was tough for me, as I had to readapt to the new keys like command and option, where control isn't control like in Windows, I have passed the transition period that using Windows is increasingly difficult now.

Html 5 Draft Report Released Read the changes from html 4 here
darran replied to jlhaslip's topic in General Discussion
How fast can we actually expect HTML 5.0 to kick in?I don't think it will be anytime soon, probably a few years down the road. And even so, what is the percentage of websites adhering to it? Browsers have to do lots of work too. FireFox 3 is highly unlikely to be able to support HTML 5.0, it isn't even officially released by W3C yet. Our best bet could be IE8 but I don't know about any plans regading FireFox, Safari and Opera
