  1. Personally, I had the choice of choosing to upgrade to Vista or switch over to Leopard (Mac). I did the latter, and I am glad I did so after hearing the massive complaints in this thread as well as from all my friends on how resource intensive Vista is. Though the minimum requirements is 1GB, to actually run it decently (not high end); you would basically need 2GB of memory. And notice the keyword is decently, to run smoothly, even more memory is needed.Sure enough Vista is reborned with a classy and beautiful interface, the glossiness was nonetheless copied from Mac. Where is the innovation in the design which Microsoft has promised? I do disagree about the fact you should only get a Mac if you don't game much. I do play games like WoW and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 which is running on my Windows XP partition. Once again, I have not touched Vista and unless by force, will never ever use it.
  2. It has been 8 months since I started hosting with Xisto - Web Hosting, and through the service I have been getting, it is pretty obvious who I intend on choosing for another year. I would like to renew my subscription 4 months before. I am currently using the budget plan B and intend to use the same plan. I also need to renew my domain name, how is all this going to be processed? Does a 1 yr renewal add on to the existing 4 months of hosting time I have or does it overwrite it? Please get back to me as soon as possible.
  3. I am thinking of using Joomla as a CMS for a website. However I do not know where I can start. I know CSS and using semantic markup. I also know how to integrate a CMS like WordPress into my own website design. However with Joomla, it looks more complex and troublesome. With WordPress, it was decently documented and I had no problems using their functions.I have read up on the documentation of Joomla. I have a question. There is index.php to handle the main page, but how about sub pages? I would appreciate it if someone can give me a brief introduction of how the CMS works in layman terms. Also can you advise where I can learn how to integrate Joomla into my site's template? Thanks in advance
  4. I know Windows automatically register new installations to autostart on startup.I have installed Mozilla Thunderbird, but apparently, I can't find the option to actually get it to autostart, I have to keep opening it every time I switch on my laptop. How can I configure Windows to accept Thunderbird as a autostart program?
  5. I tried accessing the missing pictures as seperate URLs like the following: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I could not find any image there, I suppose it is not even on the server, it displays me an error of file not found. As for your distortion, it is showing in FireFox and IE 6 as well, so definitely it isn't a problem with something when you upload but rather your code yourself. From the looks of things, it is definitely your CSS. Try fixing them, probably your alignment are all wrong if you are using that, or even your absolute positions.
  6. Okay, you might be right in 1 way. Lets estimate 40 members out of 1000 upload 2 pictures a day, it would still be 80 pictures. And still the problem of looking at pictures uploaded by members you do not know, I don't see the reason. If there are too many pictures, then there comes the problem of actually missing them, since for sure nobody would want to keep on clicking the next page link. For me, there isn't the pull factor to draw me into joining. Just my 2 cents though.
  7. I was looking for a thread on digital cameras but could not seem to find 1. So I did a search, and still no related threads. I was wondering whether there is any place we can discuss digital cameras? If we don't, is it possible to create a couple of forums for it? Because it would help people like me who are looking to purchase a new camera but don't know the flaws of each model/brand. What do you say?
  8. Okay, I voted no in this case because I fail to see the significance of actually joining a Trap flickr group. Just think about it for a second. There are so many members in Xisto (Xisto - Web Hosting or not), easily a thousand if you ask me. I would not know 90% of the members here, and then I join this group, looking at this member's pictures whom I do not know even existed. On top of all that, if every member would upload 10+ photos, imagine how many pages we would have to look through. This idea is not very feasible if you ask me. But you are free to change my opinion.
  9. I like MooTools a lot as well. I am actually using it to design a navigational bar of my company's website. Although it is nothing special, just some fades. E.g. when you hover on a logo, it will fade in all the previously invisible logos. Really cool and simple effect but yet it is in someways sophisticated. I think you need to have a basic understanding of how to use element IDs, JavaScript and CSS to fully utilize MooTools. Without these, you will just probably be using the demo examples and unable to make any breakthroughs or unique design. What I love the most about MooTools is that it is object oriented base, I studied it and practiced it in my codes. So this is a breeze for me. I can create multiple objects and use the transition whenever and wherever I want in the site. This is a good way of making your site look more Web 2.0
  10. The lime green was meant to serve as a highlight. This is my new version: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png
  11. It is okay, you can't give me feedback because there isn't any code yet. I need to ensure that my design is the final version before I delve into coding. Do not be mistaken into that is a right column, it is actually a column to describe my post. Post meta if you will. The about is merely a short snippet about the author, I don't have any plans to add an about page just yet. Which blue bottom are you referring to? The one which contains the about or the one which contains the rustling writings?
  12. I am not sure of the exact name, but the domain name is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ As mentioned, these were downtime outbursts, so most of the time the issue was solved before I could even get in touch with the online personnels. I seriously doubt the network problems would occur from my client side because prior to those incidents, I have not changed anything in my configuration of my site. Plus if it was a problem on my client side, the problem would have still persisted but it disappears after a period of time. I did not receive any alert mails in my E-mail. Not even in my junk folder. I put the same email when I registered for this hosting, also it is the same email listed in my CPanel. As for the backing up of HDD a few days back, I can have no complaints since it took relatively quick to restore everything and nothing was lost in the process. But prior to this, I remembered having the same problem with Xisto when it took quite sometime to fix. But soon after I registered for Xisto - Web Hosting.com, this was happening again. As a customer, I need the assurance that my site won't go down frequently, it really hurts the site's growth and I can't progress in a continual manner as I would have liked. Do not misunderstand. The outburst of downtime is an expression to what my site has been experiencing, it has no intention to undermine Computing hosting's network reliability or services. I hope you can troubleshoot for me, and tell me why is it that my visitors can't connect to my site frequently despite the network services being up.
  13. Before this, I always had a good impression of Xisto - Web Hosting, but I must admit I am very disappointed with what has been going on regarding my hosting. There are many outbursts of downtime reported by my visitors, the site suddenly just couldn't connect, there were no problems whatsoever with the network. All the services were running fine, when I checked the Xisto Helpdesk. Just that it could not connect to my website. And just a few days back, the KAPPA server had hard disk problems, causing my site to be inaccessible for a period of time, a good 5 hours at least. And all of these time, there wasn't any announcement email sent out to me to inform of what is going on. As a customer I hope to have a more transparent view of what is going on. The reason I moved to Xisto - Web Hosting was to get a more stable, more dedicated host compared to Xisto, but at the rate things are going, it would have been better for me to stay at Xisto. I hope to get a reply from this.
  14. I am designing a layout for my blog. Can you please give me your comments? I don't want to do up my entire website before realizing that there are improvements to be made. So I would appreciate it if you can give me some feedback. When you first look at the website, you may find it weird because I try to be different from all the blogs you see out there. The JPEG mockup is attached. Hope to hear some constructive criticism or praise
  15. I have been working on a new WordPress theme for my blog, right now I am just going about the JPEG mockup of how it will look like, so don't get too excited yet. The development stage has yet to be worked on. Right now, this is what I have.I feel something is lacking in my bottom though, can I have some suggestions please? The mockup JPEG is attached
  16. Thanks a lot Truefusion for stepping out to help me on this. The logo is fantastic!!!!! And I have transferred 15 credits to you for your effort and initiative to help me! Cheers
  17. Sure that would be fine with me. The reason I need the PSD is because my header is having some background color, and I intend to save the logo with the background color. The PSD of my header is here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Perhaps you can put your image into that PSD and then attach it for me to download? Thanks in advance, your logo looks superb, I will be sure to give credit to you in my blog, also maybe you would like a link? Just let me know, and its all ready to go up on my site.
  18. Let a Xisto - Web Hosting user share his thoughts. When I first bought my first paid hosting with computing-host, I paid an extra 10 SGD for a domain. I guess you can argue that it is about 6-7 USD. Within less than 6 hours, I could access my domain and everything went smoothly, no problems whatsoever. I believe Xisto - Domains.com is managing my domain registration. And till now, I have not had a single problem with it at all. Oh did I mention that I have been owning my own domain for the past month and so far, I have not encountered any problems.
  19. Looks good, thanks a lot! Do you have the psd? I need to save it correctly so that it does not affect my header background as you can see here. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  20. There was no problem in IE, but in Firefox there was. My wrapper height was smaller than the window height itself. Is there any place I can study more about css?
  21. I have found what is wrong with the problem. It was the container height, if I left it as it is, the page will shift position. How do I get around this problem, if I set the container as 50 000 pixels, they don't seem to move but that doesn't seem like the way to go about this problem isn't it? Can anyone help?
  22. Thank you for the response, really quick! I am at work now so unfortunately, I am not able to provide you with code listing of my style.css I know it is a problem with the CSS because when I don't align the container to the center, everything works fine, the page does not shift at all. I can't possibly give you a demo link as this wordpress test blog is hosted on my localhost, I am not sure how to install 2 instances of WordPress in my host. What I can do is to give you some screenshots though. I am not mixing fluid with fixed layout, it is a pure 770px layout. The only problem is that the main page is positioned at say 0px (where 0px is the original position where it is supposed to be) and the rest of the pages like my post permalink and pages are positioned at say 5px. There is no change in the width of the container, just the position of it. I will have a go at the margin: 0 auto; instead of margin: 0 auto 0 auto; Though, I am not sure what is the difference it would make. I will be going the entire look through my style sheet when I get back.
  23. This is a bug I am really confused by and I hope I can get some help over here. I am in the midst of creating my very own WordPress Theme for my site which involves full styling using CSS. I am moving away from tables. I have a layout which is 770px in width (fixed), and I want to align it to the center. Ideally, this is what I put in my CSS. #wrapper { margin: 0 auto 0 auto;} This visually looks fine on my browser at first. But when I click on say, a post permalink which will bring me to the view the entire post. The entire layout shifts to the left by a mere 5px. Can anyone tell me what is going wrong? If you need to see any code, just make a mention and I will give it to you.
  24. want a stylish header for my site. I did 1 on my own but it is way too lousy It is very simple, all it got to be is 1. 360 * 60 pixels (Maximum size) 2. Contain the word limeTOUCH with lime being bold and completes all to be below it. 3. Make it as elegant and stylish as possible You can just send the psd to me. desirematters[at]hotmail[dot]com You can download the PSD here. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ You can take it as a base, change the orb and the text. It is yours to do, let your creativity run wild. I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance. __________________
  25. Just would like to inform you guys that I will be leaving Xisto. It has been a good adventure, spending 9 months in Xisto, but I have decided to hop onto computer host. Thanks to opaque who helped me in the registration and also I have done a redirect on my Xisto site to link to my new site for another 170 days, so for sure I won't lose any new visitors. The support I had was amazing, and within 2 hours, everything was settled. Thanks to anyone who I have shared some good discussions in XistoSee ya guys!
