  1. I'm a 23 year old American single female, but the pressures are there too for me to get married, no so much from my family, but from the church. If you are not married, they do not even recognize you. In fact, they avoid you as much as possible (so of course I perpetuate their obsurdness by dressing semi-goth hehe). But anyway, we're talking about you, not me. It's difficult to say how to get your parents to back off. I guess you just have to remember it is your life, your decisions, and you're not harming anyone because of it.
  2. oh very nice lib2day *claps* hehe In class they said the same thing too, "cryptic." I'll give you a hint though. The term "Painted Lady" refers to one of two things: 1) The high end- Victorian homes, usually three stories with ornate decorative color designs. 2) The low end- a female prostitute. Either meaning, I think, is interchangable within this poem. It's up to the reader to decide which interpretation they prefer.
  3. I totally agree. I think that show went way too far with this reality TV show thing. It's just really disturbing. (Plus I thought the ladies they chose for the show looked pretty normal to me *shrug*)
  4. can someone *explain* the pants to me
  5. I just went to go see Taxi with Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifah. I really liked it though I expected it to be heavier on the comedy side, it was more action and car chases. Felt contrived at times, but I'd probably watch it again.7/10
  6. hmm that's really something. It's like present-day mummification but they use polymer instead of resin and sodium carbonate. Here's a quick link to their Plastination section. http://www.koerperwelten.de/ I think this is an excellent example of the post-modern world we live in. Whereas preservation used to be something spiritual and done as a sign of respect, now it is done for science and to some it is seen as disrespectful because the bodies are left "exposed." I can't help but wonder if this post-modern response is empathy for the dead or fear of the progressive nature of science (ie a horror response to seeing dead bodies in a museum because, "Someday I'll be dead and I hope that doesn't happen to me"), because it is in the present collective consciousness to contain and otherwise categorize everything, especially intangable items like death and spirit. No, I take that back, it's not fear of science; it's categorization of death through visual confirmation of it. Viewing death, I suppose in some way, removes the fear and "unknown" of it.

Welcome to Xisto, Bo Hong! Looks like you already got the army system figured out

  10. I have more email addys than I can remember to check! At one point I had a xena.com and an orlandobloom.com email) Anyway, I tend to stick to the three hotmail ones I have (different fandoms dontya know) but they blowup easily esp if somebody's sending pics. I do love my new gmail though, it's quick and lots of memory

    Hi all

Welcome Maca! We've got some great people here so if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask
  13. LMAO it's funny because it's true! What is with no floppy drive? Anybody seen the "Pretty Patty" episode of SpongeBob? Yeah, the only special thing about imacs is that they're colorful but that's so not even worth it
  14. Really? I wonder why we'd need government regulations on dryers?? Ah well that's just more democraty goodness Not to throw gas on an already lit fire, but I think Bush inherited some of the stuff Clinton should have taken care of while he was in office, but Bill was too entrenched in personal problems (and the world was too interested) that things such as foreign relations etc took a backseat. I mean terrorists and wars don't pop up out of nowhere, there's a history built behind these things and it didn't all start the second Bush got into office. I dunno, that's just my feeling on it
  15. aw come on, you can do better than *that* hehe It blew your mind and you know it! LOL
  16. I agree, I liked the first Survivor because it was fresh. But now, reality TV is on all the time on every channel. I miss good scripted drama! The most recent one I've seen, "the eccentric billionare" or something. They claim they have the most dangerous stunts on TV. Don't people get enough real life during the day? Well no I guess this reality tv isn't real life, it's a circus
  17. at the moment, anything Hugh Jackman related. Every nite for the last 2 weeks I've plugged in a hugh movie while I'm working. The first site I've been checking out in the morning is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. My obsessiveness usually floats between Orlando Bloom and Hugh but I think since I've been working on that VanHelsing fic so much lately, I've gravitated that direction
  18. No fluff or over the top allusions in this piece. The sounds are crisp, short lines are harsh and so well rendered, like "Crystal suicide" and "A tear shed / Tatoos of long ago." And the rhyme scheme is not obnoxious but keeps the rhythm driven. Here the form matches the content; feels to me like goth angst succinctly represented. That's just some freeking good writing. When I get that goth site eventually pulled together, I'd love to have some of your work featured there
  19. They're reporting on it at MSN now too. I feel there's nothing bad about being on tv, if you know you're going to be on tv, you know what I mean? I guess millions of people watching me gush sort of freaks me out. They're going to make us Iowa folk out to be such duh-heads. Don't get me wrong, we are yokels lol I just don't think it'll help our image much http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv

    I Got Punk'd

by Bill Shatner! Doh. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It was in the newspaper that they were filming, and mom's a fan, so we drove down to Riverside to check it out. They interviewed us for the "making of DVD" but apparantly we're going to be on TV now. I just don't know how to feel about that.
  21. I haven't seen this yet, but saw a promo on TV this weekend. The brits to have a humor all their own, so should be good, in an odd sort of way
  22. oh my, beautiful pictures! You should use some of the pics you take and make a desktop wallpaper out of them. (it'd look like a fishtank sitting right on your computer desk )I had some fish once in a tank, for a science fair project, and I won't tell you how *that* turned out for the fishies, but we metaled at state soo... I did have a red beta fish named Hank for like three years. He was a good fish
  23. I have learned through all of the classes on poetry I've taken at my university, there are many different styles of language and methods of flexing one's creative licence on a piece, but I am of the "school" that spelling things out can never be a bad thing. My favorite line is "A small flower scarlet petal" - emotionally and visually invocative
