  1. I am certainly with you that religion is overexaggerated but as someone already mentioned, it's core characteristic is getting inside people. People take their religions at a upper pedestial than what they are anyone else around them are. But it's just a characteristic of religion, so there's not much we can help. About what the Priest said, that's pretty obvious had to say something like that, it's funny how he didn't say something a bit more acceptable if he's supposed to nurture humanity but I guess we all are pretty accustomed to it. There's more politics in a Church than the USA. But after the Black Plague, I guess people had started to get an idea about the Priests, but anyway, that's not the point. Asking the Priest to comment on the Earthquake was like asking a Scientist to comment on Creationism or God as a whole. A Scientist's view is certifiable only uptil it remains within nature. [1] I respect your view. But sadly religions don't let people define them, especially all the Abrahamic (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) religions. [2] Just one thing I would like to say here. Look at the Moon he's pointing at, not the finger, please? [3] Just like the Christians are after other religions, every religion is after another religion and every religion is after Atheism. Everyone wants to make the other look stupid. [4] Trust me, everyone wishes that ignorance could be a way out. [5] I definitely agree with you here. I don't know when will the media start growing brains, or atleast hold a disclaimer when they're trying to be sarcastic. [6] No one really cared for Atheism until it stood out. People over-looked religious conflicts for centuries but when something new [actually, Atheism is older than Hinduism or even Hammurabi's code] came out, it was so much easier to point their fingers there. I have no idea what you are trying to say when you say we make a big deal out of religion, we don't even care unless and until your "ancient" scriptures come in between common sense, justice, equality and humanity.
  2. I find my post pretty pointless after reading this reply. XD It's definitely win-win IF you do have the same feelings for him [if not, then more friendly hangouts would click something, maybe] and you know him rather well being his close friend. Sitting just thinking about what to do won't do any good. You're friends and dating a new guy wouldn't really change how more friends know you. If you do have feelings I would definitely suggest you to do something about this as this is really an awkward situation but if it hits off well, trust me nothing would make you happier than having a guy who knows and understands you! I'd hundred percent agree to this post. If you don't like him or think you would never be able to like that guy, then DO NOT make him feel like you like him or something. Otherwise things can pretty much turn ugly at a later point of time. And if you really like him too, try going out on a couple of friendly hangouts (won't really call them dates) alone and think about it. And then decide what to say to him.
  3. Well, usually when we guys are bored and have got nothing much to do it's rare that we end up doing something productive because we don't want to. We sometimes want to do stuff just for the heck of it. :)The first thing that comes to mind is this place here where we get all kinds of flavored sodas. It's been our "hang out place" since from a really long time and so we all are pretty attached to it. Drink your favorite flavor, joke around and comment on the recent happenings in and out of the group or just random discussions. The best place to have them is with a soda in hand at Fizzy. All being big movie buffs, it's then renting a DVD and watching it on friends '54" Plasma screen. And as we all are musically oriented (not a band, too much variation of music preference) we just jam for fun most of the time and end up creating something or the other. Like last time we made a parody of a song by Fall out Boy and then we joked about forming a band named Fall in Girl which would parodize all their songs and songs by other equally lame "musicians". Making short films of some "personalities" and incidents is obviously there. Like once we were mocking all those stupid vloggers present at gigs these days who are pathetic camera-holders and commentors. We made one of our friends assume the role of a guitar teacher but at the same time assume to be the Science teacher in school. So it was like his pathetic skills + the teachers hilarious antics while teaching and counseling coupled with a person you can call someone who can't film for nuts. XDThe main objective of our "stuff" is usually fun as we are all bored of churning out something or the other productive in the end.
  4. The theory of Evolution doesn't state this. But Lamarck's Theory of Inheritance does. The Theory of Evolution just tells us about Survival of the Fittest and Natural Selection. Neo-Darwinism somehow goes like this. Mutations are the raw materials and Natural Selection is the operative force. German biologist August Weismann carried out an experiment where he cut off the tails of rats for 20 generations but tail-less rats were never born. Indian's practice ear-piercing for thousands of years, yet babies with pierced ears are to be born. Artificially maintained small feet of Chinese women never caused baby females to have small feet as compared to boys. The common factor here is, including your put-forth example. None of these conditions in the examples were natural ones or showed a sense of need or accompliance to the environment on part of the organism. These were all forced upon the individual and weren't natural at all. There is no need for ear piercing, tail-less rats or small feet of women. The somatic cells are the ones which are affected by these actions and they die with the organism. The germ cells are passed on from generation to generation according to the Theory of Continuity of Germplasm by Weismann. The breaking of the hymen doesn't have any effect on the germ cells, so these properties of an "experienced" female aren't passed on to the next generation. And the presence of the hymen, or lack of it doesn't really affect the individual in any way so again there is no need for Nature to work here, it can rest. Bang on. And even this process requires some amount of time and doesn't really get done in a single generation. It's a slow, gradual process. And even I agree it's more of a societal term referring to an "unexperienced" woman or man as a matter of fact both are referred to as virgins.
  5. Welcome to Xisto! :)I guess you have already read the Xisto ReadMe and Shoutbox Rules. If not, then go and have a look at them, the links are on the red bar in the shoutbox. And you better slow down on the posting now as when you'll apply for hosting, all your credits would be taken and you would be left with 2 or 3 for the initial stability of your account. So it's like if you have 50 while applying, you'll still have 2 or 3 left in the end after you get your hosting!I would really love to have a look at your site! Personal web-pages are fun. Good luck with it!
  6. True. It's actually real simple. It's High School science. That's exactly the reason why if we fall from a place we don't get sucked right into the core of the Earth but rather fall flat on the Earth's surface. Because Electro-magnetic force is far greater in strength than Gravitational force. The repulsion between the electrons of our skin/clothes and the Earth's surface is way too much for Gravity to overcome. This was even shown in the "Elegant Universe" series. This thing applies to anything and everything as nothing is made-up of something other than atoms and molecules. Be it your keyboard, your body, your drum kit, the ball. Though it is kinda amazing that heat and friction, texture all still can be felt. The accurateness of the electrons! Something more amazing to imagine. You pluck the strings on your guitar, but it isn't actually your fingers that are pulling the string, it's the "wall of repulsion" between the string and your finger that's doing the task.
  7. Awesome! And yes, the screen gets scratched AND it almost cracks really easily. But they then do a replacement for absolutely no charge though. And I gotta agree on the fact that there are even better and cheaper phones!
  8. I agree! It became a fad to own a iPhone in just a single day! And now everyone wants it and in the end will end up just using it to call seeing as it only has a 2 megapixel camera and an iPod-like player inside it that are the practical uses of the phone! There are so many better-off and more practical cheaper alternatives to an iPhone but fads make kids blind! And imagine the condition of the people who spent thousands of dollars on eBay like Saint_Michael said just to figure out it was just a shiny cell phone.
  9. If you ask me I really love this idea! Just like we have sig contests, we can very well have writing contests too! :DFor all we know it might just burst out some much needed activity in the forums and the ideas of competitions always sound cool nonetheless. I won't mind making sigs for the winners but I warn you I am not that good. You could ask the mods as to which thread could you post this under. We have a Creativity forum and maybe you can utilize that forum! Apart from as a graphic helper I would love to participate in this contest at the same time.Hope the mods and admins like this idea and make this happen!
  10. I submitted a ticket just now.Hope I get a reply soon! And do the support tech already know what the problem is for now or they're still searching for that too? I mean the "loop" thing is one but can it be that due to something all the passwords have been changed to something or there's some other problem? 'cause if the problem is already known I don't think fixing it should've taken this much time, and even if it did. They could very well just reply to the other members who posted a ticket before me.
  11. Wow is all I can say.It would be an amazing as well as confusing and scary feeling to see the world change so much! I mean by the looks of it it has been 19 years but things have changed so much in these 19 years! Forget about that, in just 10 recent years thing have gone upside down! It might take him a lot while to get used to things. But it feels so good to know about such a love! 19 years, I bow down to the lady!
  12. Okay now this is really hilarious. XD What if the judge turns out to be an Atheist? "Dude, you can't sue your imaginary friend!" I don't know why I feel like agreeing to this. I am quite much surprised WE don't have such stupid politicians here in India. I mean it's India, worse politicians I used to think. But some recent stupidity has proved otherwise.
  13. Well, I would be really looking forward to the GPhone as I didn't quite much like the Aple iPhone neither did I find it worth the money. If it's really good and really practical without much added gloss then I would definitely give it a try. It's Google so I am sure they will probably come up with something really good. Even though what I see in the screenshots still don't appeal me, I'll wait for this and if it ever happens I would be quite eager to get my hands on it!
  14. I don't think that iPhone is worth the 400$. And there are many apparent reasons for that.Although the CoverFlow and emphasis on music is a plus. So is the interface and screen and virtual keyboard and all such stuff. It lacks many things people would need in a phone. If it's gonna cost you that, they must have a camera which isn't limited to 2 megapixels! And incporating iPod into the iPhone is something I didn't like. You have an MP3 player for your songs. Mobiles are built for community and ways to make it better. Adding things and not making anything better isn't what Apple should've done. And apart from that, you can get more practical, global and useful for non-Apple fans mobile phones for even cheaper.Look at the post for generic reasons why it isn't really worth all that much.
  15. That disease (if there is any) is definitely not similar to rabies. I know it is a medical state or condition where a person might drink blood but I am sure whether they have qualified it as a disease. Mostly it is a lack of a certain nutrient found in blood. I heard of a case on Discovery channel that a person was lacking Iron in his blood and he would drink human blood to feel normal or better. Then there was a case of a "human vampire" where a person would have to drink blood, it was like needed for his body to function according to him. He was a self-proclaimed Vampire and was following vampire-inspired fashion and various other things. His girlfriend was the blood donor and he even agreed without any problems to have his body and mental state diagnosed to see if there was any scientific reason available for his need for blood which turned out there wasn't any!
  16. Well, according to me the first thing I take care about is standards compliance. It not just helps me bring out the site properly in all browsers but at the same time correcting my mistakes and errors just sharpens my skills and makes me a better web designer. Other than that, the layout counts a lot but I'll get to that later. The other thing is navigation, it has to be pretty well-organized and simple. People should know clicking what will lead where and so simple links too. And the navigation should be positioned properly on the page and links and lists would help your visitors enjoy their stay on your site. And even will makes things easy for them. Visitors should find the stuff they're looking for on your site easily and if not it's pretty irritating and time-consuming. The content, no one would care if the design and all is good but the content is really crappy. I am known to have a bad grammar and so I ask my friends to always help me whenever I am writing something, except for casual conversations or debates. The content and everything should be well-placed, easily distinguishable and good on the eyes. Graphical headings and other mini-graphics here and there within content should make good use of Typography and should go with the layout if it's graphic-heavy. Now coming onto the layout part I completely agree with 9block here. It really depends on the web-site. If it's straight-forward content, listings, business or something then a simple, minimalistic and effective layout would be a good option. But if it's a graphic/gaming-centric web-site than you need to have a good, maybe bulky graphics-heavy layout. But it shouldn't be chunk-ish and should be good on the eyes and well-organized at the same time. Well you can't guarantee a dial-up friendly web-site this way but you can't give excuses for other turn offs. A cheesy background and hundred of ugly gif files count as graphic-heavy too but again even the graphic-heavy layouts should follow most of the guidelines minimalistic layouts follow. Flash is good for certain navigation and headers as well as if you've got a really good idea of a design like here -> ([/url=http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) but apart from that I usually hate Flashy web-sites who don't require Flash in the first place.
  17. Not want to vote? India is filled with stupid politicians like her and hence we have one of the lowest voting population and so many political riots and oppression and booth raids taking place during elections. An expiry date on marriage? That's just depressing. Nothing, not even religion or a law can interfere the feelings of a person and this is a fact that we all should accept. Some marriages are wrong decisions, and hence the divorces. Some marriages last forever. A 7 year marriage contract just doesn't make any sense! If a couple decide to divorce, they do. If they decide to re-marry, they do. Why should a couple go to the court to extend the expiry date on their marriage more? And they can still divorce before the 7 year expiry date so what's the point.Act to gain cheap popularity.I agree with Michael when he says there is no basic "approach" for marriage. Love and marriage for me are all about compatibility. You cannot fall in love with someone if you're not compatible with him or her, it's like a calculation of life. Everything you need, everything you can give, the amount of your feelings towards the partner, the amount of the partners feelings towards you.
  18. Source The Government of Orissa has declared that it will follow the Shariat Law in the case of women who follow Islam. This news is horrifying and depressing if you ask me as we all know how rational and humanity-driven the Shariat law is. I would like this lady to resign right now from her position of Women and Child Development Minister if she thinks such actions taken by her are going to lead to any development. I mean we all know about how sexist and inhuman the Shariat law is. Most of the things mentioned in it are just totally not required at all. I just don't get it if there was any need for this. The story is. Sometime back there was this case of a lady named Nazma Bibi who's husband was a drunkard. One fine day he was really drunk and totally angry for some reason and due to a slight domestic argument he uttered the word "talaq" 3 times when he wasn't in complete control of his senses. Now according the Islam, just this one word spoken 3 times is enough for a marriage to break and the wife to be doomed for the rest of her life. The next morning the husband got his senses back and was shocked himself at what he had done last night. He cried, he realized his mistake and wanted to re-unite with his wife at once and Nazma understood what state he was in and wanted to re-unite too. I mean, this sounds so simple, just marry again, it won't be of any problem ... not even a legal one. Just that it would hurt Muslim fundamentalists and it did. Now again according to the Shariat law, if a woman wants to re-marry her husband, she has to marry someone else first and sleep with him atleast once and then only if the new husband willingly divorces her she can re-marry her old husband. And so the government faced alot of anger from the Muslim population of the state and demanded that this re-marriage will only take place according to the Shariat law and not the Indian constitution. Legally, the divorce didn't even take effect so there wasn't any need for any mess. This case made the Government take this action. Muslims claim that the breaking of a marriage isn't pleasant in the eyes of Allah. Then why was He so careless while writing down these laws? I mean just one word 3 times and everything's done? How would it make any difference if the wife sleeps with another man or doesn't? And on the other hand it's even hard to find another willing Muslim husband due to the sublime delicacy of taking a woman's virginity as losing virginity before marriage is again almost a crime in Islam. I mean this law just doesn't make ANY sense to me or most of the people who don't follow Islam. I seriously think it would've been better if Muslim fundamentalists didn't penetrate into this case. But in the end Nazma Bibi and her husband reunited without any hurdles. But once again, this led to this decision by the Government. Now if anyone knows most of the Shariat law, it's a clear slap on humanity. On top of that, not only Shariat law but even Manu Smriti (Qu'ran equivalent for Hindus) has many sexist and almost male chauvinist verses. How would this Minister feel when her husband would beat her down every night out of frustration and still run away without any charges because of the Manu Smriti? I bet if this happens she'll appeal for this action to be taken back if she even has pea-sized brains. What are we going to do about the "largest democracy"? I strongly think this decision should be taken back at once. India is a democracy and not a Theocracy which would tolerate religious non-sense. Secularism means equal respect to all religion. None of he religions affect the law and that's equality and it should be there. There should be a uniform law!
  19. I started encountering this same problem 11 hours back. I PMed BuffaloHELP with some details, including the error number and all. Buffalo, would this issue be solved easily and quite early? 'cause if it's gonna take time then I should just get my password changed.
  20. The activity on this forum has been ceasing and decreasing day by day, wait, hour by hour. Almost a year back when I joined the forums, the activity was pretty blazing (still some oldies say it was nothing close to some time back) and then when I came back after a hiatus of 2 to 3 months, the activity was pretty much alive but lesser. Then again a hiatus for a month and the activity went down considerably. Then again a hiatus for a month and now it seems dead.I am not really good at contributing good topics but I'll try my best now. Hope to see Xisto blazing once again. But still, does anyone really know any reason for this? :|
  21. Stupid generalizations, pfft! If you read my post, that friend of mine has absolutely no dark circles. And from like maybe, 1st grade I am on my PC for an average of 4 hours daily with sometimes exceeding to 24 hours during holidays. And my eyes are in top-condition with absolutely no problem in them and I don't even have spectacles or lenses, my eye-sight is pretty good if not better than most of my friends who hate computers/video games all together. Yes, I have dark circles but which insomniac doesn't? And not every person who plays an instrument gets in a band or gets money or any kind of thing with it. Win a school talent hunt or a local gaming championship. It might just be the same at ground zero. It's all skills.
  22. Damnit. I have the AC on throughout the night and I keep on drinking water... But I would take care of the 1st, 3rd and 4th points from now on!Some really useful tips for a person like me! Thanks for posting this! But I would like to ask, would restaurant-cooked chicken be harmful in the night as my parents being pure vegetarians won't cook chicken for sure. I must learn how to cook chicken from my Uncle then.
  23. Well, quite a lot of biased views here and quite a few good ones. :|Well, video games are simply NOT a waste of time. While addiction to gaming is, though. I mean, video games are for entertainment and can be very well taken as a hobby. Collecting coins might be a waste of time for some, collecting stamps might be a waste of time for some, collecting might be a waste of time, space and money for some, but it just depends on the individual. As long as it's a good hobby which makes the person happy, I don't think it's a waste of time at all. I have a friend who really loves to show off his game collections and his scores and the awesome screenshots he gets! And at the same time he is one of the top rankers in the entire state when it comes to academics, good in sports but he's not interested to join up a team and is fit, or rather anorexic according to my standards and good looking too. Almost all girls here get weak in their knees after seeing him. Gaming is a hobby for him and he enjoys it. :PI know couple of kids from the neighborhood who just spend their entire money on gaming in cafes and bunk school and college too for gaming while they're getting nowhere with it. That is bad, pointless addiction to gaming is bad and I agree. They're wasting the most precious moments of their lives. But it's kinda surprising that most of them aren't still obese or whatever. Not only gaming, long-term TV viewing can cause severe health issues too with gaming. And on the other hand, gaming is soon becoming almost like a profession. Or rather a part-time job. We have LP clan wars here and then the WCG and other local things are really taking interest in gaming to a next level. Gaming might just become a profession for some in a while and you can't call it useless then. Though yes, I agree it's kinda weird to have gaming as a profession as in the end it's not doing good to society. I mean yeah play games and earn money but what are you giving back anyways? But, you won't really be calling it a "waste of time" if it did become a profession. In the end I would like to say. It really depends on the individual. I was hooked onto gaming from 1st grade all the way to 8th. Then in 9th, 10th and now in 11th, I don't really get into the mood or rather have much interest in gaming for some unknown reason and my life hasn't changed a bit since then. I was the same guy then and I am the same guy now. I have found better hobbies and interests maybe.
  24. You don't "believe" in the Theory of Evolution. You accept it as a fact after the evidence and proof that you see and notice. I know things aren't for sure but we're getting closer and closer to the answer, isn't it? We've come far with Evolution, when we didn't end up anywhere with the idea of Adam and Eve, I mean there was plain nothing in Special Creation. We are here and that's it, Evolution still has come a long way and for all I know will.. And maybe Evolution is still in doubt. Special Creation has been proven wrong by paleontology. Humans came into existence way after the Earth was formed. Evolution apart from being the answer, has been immensely helpful in so many other fields like medicines, genetics, botany, food and so many other things which affect our life to a huge extent. From what I have learnt, Evolution is justified, way more than the idea of ignorance. Evolution answers the age-old question, "The chicken came first or the egg?" while Intelligent Design can't. They will just add another verse in the Bible or Qu'ran as an answer, saying the Chicken came first and it is a truth. I would like to know how is it illogical. DNA, homologous and vestigial organs are things you can take as things supporting the theory that humans were apes. I've seen that show, was pretty interesting. Eve, the first female human and Adam the first human male. Yes, we did adapt to our environments as man ventured out all over the world, but the skin color was rather not an adaptation but you can say a side-effect. We didn't need it, it happened over time as environmental conditions had an effect over melanin and other enzymes or things that are present in our body and are responsible for the skin color. But you can always say Evolution is wrong, we are yet to discover the fossils of Unicorns. XD
  25. I would say go for WordPress. Being on Xisto, it would give you way more than what Blogger.com ever will. Blogger hardly has any good advantages of it's own and the readymade templates are plain ugly for me.Many, many, many more features. Most customization. Better standards. So many skins and plug-ins. A great community to hold your back. It's like owning a really nice web-site rather than having a "blog". It's not just out of a fad that WordPress is basically called the best blogging platform and I've been using blog systems for almost two years now and nothing, absolutely nothing beats WordPress. But if you need something more than a blog, you can go for CMSs. Someone mentioned the link to Open Source CMS. Give it a try, that's the best place to discover new and compare CMSs according to your own needs.
