  1. Yes, I know #include <fstream> I've tried every variety of thata million times, #include<ostream>, even overriding <stdio> with<iostream>! But it [at least, mine] doesn't have a freaking fstream.hTry compiling a standard fstream including file, tell me what happens.
  2. Nicely put dexter. Could you show me those results of yourspeed tests with double-linked lists?Actually dexter, you're slightly wrong. With UPX. Thesize goes down a few hundred KB's and still works as a EXE.Darn those Microsoft exe's.data-data-data-data00000000000000000data-data-data-data00000000000000000data-data-data-datamakes no sense, who thought of that one?Does anyone know if DevC++ now has a darnfstream include file? I'm getting sick of playingaround with Quincy to compile file I/O programsand Watcom is hell for me right now.
  3. If you mention this site in the technology section of our forums, I think you'll catch a lot of attention. Thanks again.
  4. Yeah, I know I posted a bit late... Those were a string of indirectly related items. I knw nVidia is a graphics card company. It has nothing to do with better security. What has to do with better security is the root level priveleges and such...
  5. Well that sucks for me, mine came along with SP2...Linux rules man, but the thing's bloated. Don't get mewrong, but the only system I can probably think of withspeed in its name is Gentoo. That's it. And that's becauseit's a processor optimized system on the GCC. Plus, thereare 10000 device drivers and the kernel doubles in sizeevery few years. Ok, pretty soon the kernel might be2.7 GB Linux Kernel 7.0! ~Now how do I get that on my486? It's losing speed and what it originally came out for.Pretty soon the old systems will be running obselete linux. The thing needs to be tuned down a little. Another thing. The syntax. It kills me. Ever been to the console with makeand came back alive and sane? The gcc & make don't makea nice combination together, they spit off errors like a fountain. Not to mention gas doesn't help.Open source rules and forever shall! But when you have 10,000people working on an OS, there are going to be A LOT of patches.I think it's better if we restarted the os movement. This timekeep the code clean (AND READABLE). And use asm. A lotof asm. You're running base level code with compilers whichmake a nice 22Kb Hello World program (win32,DevC++,gcc)?Skip it. Stick to old skool if you have to. And the mass of programmerswho want to contribute can provide code with less than 10 sourcefiles. Keep it neat, simple, and easy to maintain and understand.
  6. The Dell XPS Gen 4 System-kind of starts at $1699 (in the US) but it's very good-for unmatched performance in the desktop arena, get the Pentium? 4 Processor w/ HT Tech Extreme Edition sure it's at 3.46GHz, but it has a 1066 FSB, which means that it's [virtually] 1.25x faster than a standard computer with the same speed. It's probably going to be faster than that because the whole system is tuned for it. About an xtra $750.-costs about $3500 if you get all the good stuff. So if you have the money, there's no better in thedesktop arena that's standard.
  7. Hey Lyon, what's wrong? Can't stick to XOR cryptography? ;)Thanks though, I found a few of these interesting.

    Hiv

I'm sticking with spawn and Opaque here. Stick the idea intohis head that he has a good chance to live. Sure he probablywon't ever have children, but it's life.Googlue's right actually. If he starts taking antiretroviral vaccines,he has a modest chance of keeping it at bay or even getting ridof it. The MDs might actually use a natural selection treatmentmethod. -That should save him 50% the medical expenses ;)For those guys wondering about the cure of hiv and cancer:I'll stick to the topic first. Hiv is a virus which constantly changesits surface proteins. Boom. There goes a 2000 year oldtreatment called the vaccine. One thing, CD4 receptors onkiller [or helper? can't remember] T-cells can't distinguishbetween HIV and another protein. So you can't assist the bodyin stopping this thing. Also, every time that a drug comes out,it mutates. There goes another. Well, you're down to none ofthe old ones. Of course you need to spend billions of dollarsand years in research. This thing needs new methods! Bestway is to target weaknesses in the retroviral infection system.possible research now is interferon and reverse transcriptaseinhibitors. -after all, the body doesn't use reverse transcriptaseCancer - a generic name for several thousand types of abnormally long-livedgrowths. Those things learn how to feed themselves off of the body. Whatscientists found out is that some mussels never get cancer -so they're tryingto see how that happens although it's not fully verified.
  9. Hey nancmu, which C compiler do you use? There are some assembly libraries out there, but none which does what you want s243a,after all, why sell out on assembly's good stuff?
  10. I don't think you're right Darth Vivi. Microsoft sells Visual C++and makes its OS mostly in C. But C is good in system programming, and C++ for your everyday programming since it gives everyonea bit more peace of mind. Personally I've seen C programs runfaster and smaller than C++ programs, but that's because C's moresystem oriented. Personally, I prefer C++. I'd use assembly ratherthan C nowadays.
  11. Why not get a copy of a book from the author of C++ himself?Stroustrup. See The C++ Programming Language: Special Edition. It's 4 years old, but good reading. It serves as a tutorial andreference I think that should be good for your friend. You canget it at Amazon or Barnes and Nobles.
  12. Hey CrimeWave, that's pretty mean actually. You should have given it a bit more time,it's pretty good.Could you show the source code so thatthe rest can try? I'm sure DevC++ isn't that bad....besides, it uses gcc as a compiler, what'd you expect?
  13. Linux is considered so good becausethose guys you hear really cheeringthem on helped make it. They spenta min. of 2 hrs working on the code.I've seen those guys...geniuses, orgenii if you are really latin. Security is definetly better, nVIDIAis extremely popular, and it runsfaster generally, except for Gentoo, that's guarenteed to run faster.Nowadays you hear morons thatdon't know what their talking aboutcopy old skool. Idiots. Try it out foryourself and decide. Linux also hasa lot of variety, it's one of thebootable OS's. [Look for Knoppix]People like me who worked at thisstuff since the beginning know thedifference. Wanna-be hackers andregular windows users just go withthe flow.By the way, a good one forstarting out is Mandrake.Google it. -that should be a trademark
  14. That's nice guys, but I've noted that there's nofstream library in DevC++ [or is that just me?]-also that VC++ commandline release is available on http://www.thefreecountry.com/ and you need at least a win2000 for it.But DevC++ is good for many things like OpenGL[NeHe's pages at gamedev.net are very useful]But, you all should go to bloodshed.net to get the thing at it's source.------------------------Which is worse? No commandline ornothing to command?-the Gatian excuse
  15. alperuzi wrote: Actually, according to Rebel Code, Linux was a mishap madefrom Linus Torvald's name. Alperuzi, I think you're talking about GNU -originally stood for GNU's Not Unix. Unix is probably more stable but Linux has a lot more device drivers and the like. The command line is almost identical. But personally I like Linux better, Gentoo all the way.
  16. Hello, I joined yesterday to be truthful.Saw Xisto on the google directoriesand it turns out better than I thought itwould be. Almost contrary to my title anddescription, I program assembly as wellas C/C++. Good stuff... thanks to the fellowLinux users, redhats, and most of all tothe guys who used to run around with binarystrings hanging off their shoes back in the day.
  17. Well, I admit that WINE can't emulate windows all that well, but there are still a bunch of games for linux. Just type it in at google, 'linux games'. I know you usually need to get 101 packages first, but I have a sourceforge project dedicated to that, it's called CDE, Code Dependency Eliminator. Right now we're all practically on vacation but we'll get there. xboxrulz: Don't take it like that, it's just voicing personal opinion. I have nothing against windows personally, I think Gates did well with it, but I find Linux the better OS. ...I'm glad there's another Gentooite here.
  18. ...or according to my experience men of root, user, and heathen. But there's no actual way of telling which operating system is used by the greatest elite. Ken uses [and made] UNIX. Linus to Linux, and Gates to Windows. These are all computer greats. They all created different operating systems. You can't decide between these because they were all made by elite people. ...although I do admit Microsoft uses Linux
  19. Yeah hatebreed! Simple and fine if you got a video card matching it.But seriously, gentoo linux, all the way.We just need a few programmers and companieswhich don't stick to ESTABLISHED MONOPOLIES....but guys...aren't we ignoring WINE?
  20. I seriously think you guys provided plenty of extra information without the other basics. Yes, gcc is the standard compiler for C/C++ on linux. G++ is the actual C++ compiler. Use make for your large projects and the simple text editors for creating your .cpp's -basically nano with Gentoo Linux This site should help you for gcc syntax: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -that's information to do it old skool ~by the console. That's where I learned it to be honest ...and if you get sick of gcc [how?] you can always declare mutiny and use the Intel Non-Commercial Linux Compiler -and you can take your rebel self to http://www.thefreecountry.com/ to get a copy of that. Hope that helps.
