  1. Well, I do partially agree with Mukund but I havent recieved 404 errors (Not Yet!). But in any case I'm suggesting that this can easily be resolved by a simple mod so that the same text is not posted twice. But I do have this little grudge. I don't specially mentioning anyone but I'm just saying: First of all we have to put up with too many ads on each topic page which I understand and will gladly cooperate with, That's alread a hog on bandwidth. That's just one thing but do you people have to put on so big siggy pics and some ude even change their'sby the minute. Too many siggy pics is too much starin on my bandwidth and I, to be honest, am accustomed to hitting the escape key once the text in atopic is loaded. And I don't supose I'm the only one doing that. This can be a bad hit for Xisto ad revenue in a whole too. If I'm not allowing the siggies to load that means that the Tra17 ads aren't doing any better and you know how bad that can be for you guys. Please consider this small request. Forgive me if I have said something against some traditional 'showoff' culturism but I couldn't help it. Hope you guys take this in a positive sense and don't get me banned
  2. That's a really informative guide. Thanls man. Keep it coming. As for me I don't require that much memory since I mostly use my PC for surfind and reading and maybe a little bit of coding. But these darn anti-virii really take up RAM but there's no ther option <sigh>.
  3. I was fortunate enough to check outthe new IPB release and I mustsay nothing, I mean nothing can even aspire to come even close to it. That is some serious sh** packed up in there. One look at the admin panel and I'm in love with it. I can just spent hours staring at the Admin CP (kidding!). Everything is so beautifully arranged yet there are so many configuration options that the coders have instinctively put a search feature for the config parameters alone! I specially like the Template eitor which feels so much like an advaned html editor all by itself. Once installed you'll have to spent some time on the learning curve so that you don't get lost in the hunders of settings and options. But that's a little price you'll have to pay for asking for such customisability. Here's a screenshot of the 'Tools and Settings' Tab in the ACP: Setiing up all the forums can seem a bit daunting but it really isn't though. All the config parametrs may bet you a little excited but rest assure that by defaukt they are all set to fit normal forums. You only need to worry about those special sections in your forum. However something that you always need to configue is the permission masks which provide the highest level of integrity. The ;ast edition I tried out was the free 1.3 version and that can't even compare to what IPB is now. I'm not sure when this particular feature was introduced but I like it - The popdown options menu which gives a more or less windows feel (believe it or not!). Take a look: And about the looks - The default skin has been polished and is looking great and they have dome a good job with the new postingg panel. It looks pretty stylish now. And the Lo-Fi version is same as ever. However I do want to remind you of a big in this relese - There's a memory leak in the ips_kernel/class_xml.php file which kicks in during the installation. But no need to worry it can easily be fixed by changing 'var $lite_parser = 0;' to 'var $lite_parser = 1;'. For the official announcment from Invision check this link. All in all I'll give it a 4.7/5. I'm loving it! - Freesoul.
  4. Are you kidding me or were you dreaming in the middle of the night. Now what kind of an idiot would 'drown' himself in tea if 'drown' does have the meaning you said it does. I mean like how the guy manage to get tea in his lungs. As crazy as it sounds I' interested in the details. So enlighten me with more details man!
  5. You're kidding right - Even professional game reviewers don't have their hands on it but your brother does. The only way i'm gonna believe that is if Saddam wins the US elections! Seriously I can't even imagine buying that and from what i heard PS3 is double as powerful as the Xvox 360 and uses the Blu-Rau disc. Furthermore its joystick kinda looked dofferent for me (correcct me if I'm wrong).
  6. Well I had something more to add but I lost track of the topic (Silly Me ). So I has to work with Gzip files after posting on this thread and this time I needed to create my own gzip archive. Until then I hadn't really created a gzip file successfully. So I toook off for a stroll on the net with my favorite fox and I hit upon this wonderful archive utility called TugZip which handles many types of archives very efficiently and the best oart -its FREE. So I'm posting the link here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/TUGZip/1061582000/1 Enjoy!
  7. I don't even know the ABC of cooking. But I sure have a diploma in gobbling up all the food . The best cooking I can do is perhaps make a tomatto egg scramble and tea/coffee. Even then I'll be making abig mess out of it!
  8. I seriously doubt how long they are gonna survive. Do you know anyone who has recieved payments? Thanks for the links anyway!
  9. Good site man. I already am posting indirectly for money by using Xisto. Xisto offers all the features of a good paid host at the cost of posting in their forum and that bcould translate into paid2post . Again, we can make ad revenue off our own sites which'll be a bonus. That's paid to post enuf for me.oh, once I had this site running which allowed members to place an adsense leaderboard on the threads started by them but I didn't have that many visitors so I eventually shut it down!
  10. Your site sure does look promising. Interesting design. But putting an adsense rectangular block at the very beginning of the site may get you 'accidental clicks' but it would be bethher if you put the 'Histology can be...' starting from the top of the page. I realy can't tell about the contents because this is not my kinda subject. Good design though. Keep it up. You may want to carry a link to your site in your signature. Good Luck!
  11. Check my post in this thread for a small tutorial on setting up your own shoutbox. Works equally well for phpBB. However you may also want to install a Chat Box which is way coller in that it lets users chat in an almost realtime chat environment. Download and install the ChatBox mod.
  12. I haven't observed anythingwrong with phbb databases getting bigger. phpBB is capable of handling huge number of posts and users. So you don't necessarily need to prune your forums but I strongly recommend that you enable Gzip compression in the General Configurations page for faster page loads. Rest assured knowing that the phpBB officaila forum has 222705 registered members and 1824780 posts. Compare that to your size and just imagine what their database would be like!
  13. I have as many sincere online friends as I have in real life. I've never cheated anybody on the net coz I myself don't wanna be cheated. All of my online buddies have been knowing for quite some time now since I haven't added a new one in like 2 months or something. So we talk a lot and believe me its pretty tuff for anyone to fake up a wrong identity against me. I mean like how long can they carry on. One lie has to be supperted by another and that by another and son on and one day it'll inevitably crumble. So thumbs up to cyber friends. And about you real friends who spoiled your cyber life... they deserve some mighty **bottom** whoopin darn straight .
  14. I love Yahoo! but their email system is getting kinda old. But not to worry the upcoming upgrade sure is promosing. As for the question, I use Yahoo!, Gmail and Hotmail. Hevn't tried aol though. Can't wait for the new Yahoo! Mail - I'm too excited.
  15. I can't really say anything for or against the moderator, me still being a lil new to this forum. But I'll say that I got 'moderated' only once because of posting a topic that already existed. But I must say the moderator (mayank) did his part weel without ticking me off (be afraid, very afraid... Just kidding!). And the forums all seem to be clean of any traces of spam. But, I still can't reach a conclusion
  16. I've seen this before but couldn't resist to try it again. I tried the same with babelfish and it translates properly, the problem only seems to be with Google Language Tools. I wonder why?! ;)
  17. I'd recommend that you use FlashFXP as your FTP manager but if you don't wanna spent money on it go for FileZilla. After you have installed anyone of these software you need to get phpBB which can be dowbloaded from this page. I recommend that you download the file in tar.gz format. Its very small and can be extracted using the file manager (I'm not so sure whether the file manager is able to unzip Zip files as I have not yet tried it. Anyways phpBB setup in tar.gz is much smaller). In case you are not familiar with Xisto FTP configuration.... Address: ftp.<yourdomainname>.trap17.com Port: 21 Username: <your_id_on_forum> Password: <your_password> After you have logged in, browse to the public_html folder and upload the phpBB setup file there. Goto your cPanel at <yourdomainname>.trap17.com/cpanel an enter the file manager. Goto public_html (click on the flder icons to the left of the folder name to open a folder) there and select the phpBB archive. Now some options will appear on the pane to the top of the trashbox. Among them is an 'Extract' link. Click on it and your forum scripts will be unzipped to public_html/phpBB/ . You can rename that folder if you wish to. About installing phpBB. You must first have a MySQl database whoich can be created from the mysql option in cpanel. Goto /phpBB/install/ to start the instalation script which will ask you for some settings. After you have filled in everything appropriately you'll be send to your homepage from where you can start building your own community. Hope you found this useful. - Freesoul
  18. I'd recommend that you use FlashFXP for
  19. Well if the guy can't keep his beer to himself don't keep the guy for yourself. But I think your are too faithful to him so you can't let him go. That doesn't mean you should just sit back and watch in misery. You gotta take control if he can't control himself. I think LocalSeer's strategy is worth the shot. You go girl.

    Hosting Credits

To be honest, the credit system in Xisto pisses me out. No offense guys you are all doin a good job ith the service though. And you guys deduce credits for changing domain name! I hate it coz I had to change my domain twice and I;m still stuck with the starter plan .I have an account at another host but I'm not revealing their name and their credits system is damn liberal so much so that sometimes I think my post isn't worthy of it! And what I love about them is that they'll host your site until your crredits go as low as -20. (Yup, that's negative twenty believe it or not). But they are very successful and I like. Hey don't get me wrong but I like here too. And the other host gives me 250 mb spacce and 10 GB bandwidth plus all the features and support like Xisto and like Xisto they are adfree. But the only reason i switched here is beacause they do not allow use of paid forum software like IPB and vBulletin on their servers. That's not all there is Roxr ppl that gives 300 mb space and 30 GB bandwidth for a mere 5 posts a week but what pisses me off is their ad policy. By default they don't put ads in your site and don't let you have your own ads too. That sucks big time.So the only thing I would suggest is thatyou make your credit system a teensy weensylosse and that you remove th pay-for-domain-change policy out of the big picture. I'm just being honest here, since this is the vent. Please don't get mad.
  21. Wow man that's so cool. You're so damn lucky. Oh, how I wish I could get my hands on one of em babies. If what you are saying is true then I can't even imagine what PS3 will be like. I've seen a few screenshots and videos of X360 but it is being said that the PS# is double as powerful as 360 and to no wonder because of its revolutionary cell processor. But these things sure cost a fortune. You'll need atleast 525 bucks to to get your hands on an Xbox + a couple of games and membership to the Xbox Live online gaming service. Whew!
  22. Yea, I'm very excited about it. I read some professionalk reviews and some programmers are even jealous of the way the guys at Yahoo! have coded it! You won't believe this but there is drag and drop functionality within the new Y! mail interface and messages can be opened in tabs! I've signed up for the beta testing which is available only to yahoo.com members but haven't recieved any word from them yet! Hope you have better luck.
  23. I know of a few As Revenue services like Adsense, Publisher Network and Chitika. AS I was browsing through this forum I started wondering... where are thse animated ads fro, you know the ones with smilies and games. Some of them link to tribalfusion. If you don't mind me asking could you please tell me where these are from? Which service serves these ads and how much do you get paid?

    Forum Software

Me looooove invision especially the latest version . Its super customisable and the I can spent all day just staring at the Admin CP <sigh!>. As for vBulletin, its good too but a price tag of $160. <Dropjaw> You gotta be mad to buy that. Mainly the big boys play with it but IPB is equally good and for less price. As for phpBB well, it does the job but its comparing it with vB or IPB is like comparing notepad to Word. But hey its free and you can gett literally tons of support and mods/skins for absolutely free! Plus, its open sourse which means play time for all you coders out there.
  25. I think that this topic maybe a little too late but I'm giving it a shot anyways. Firefox 1.5 (codenamed Deerpark) is out of beta and available for download. I had tried the beta and was pretty impressed. I have downloaded it but due to some complications with a virus, I'm not able to install it. Have you guys tried it? Lemme know your feedback.
