  1. Sure BF 2142 may not be that entirely different from 2 tech-wise, but I as well like it much more. Several gameplay changes wchich make it more enjoyable. I got much more frustrated in BF2 from the insta-prone support dudes or helicopters. Infantry is much more better now versus armor raping, and as unit you have way more options available now.My style in BF2 was what I call "battle medic" (seeking sniper fights, medic mostly for the endurance, while maintaining highest revive score ^^). In 2142 it fits very well with assault. As for Voss or Braun, first went for Voss, then Braun since I love assault. Anyways, it is situational. Voss is more handy for wide open pieces, Braun for the close combat. I switch now and then before I spawn.
  2. Not really. Vista is more stable. And Battlefield games and glitchy menus ... Crappy menus is something we've all had to endure ever since BF: Vietnam. Anyways, what's up with the acronym KIC ION Storm? A dollar does not represent an S, and you seem rather satisfied. Or are you one of those guys that love to be obnoxious while using MS products? (just speculating, not accusing yet). A Writer Who Types Like This Immediately Loses Any Creditability. Also It Is Obvious He Has No Fcking Clue About What He Is Saying. Yikes no punkbuster? They'd better be damn quick with that since 2142 has some exploits from BF2 (surprise surprise). Since I got an uber pc anyways (I got tired of CPU lags in games such as BF2) can't really tell much the difference unless I bother taking a RAM module out (which I won't).
  3. Yes Chesso, here you go. http://winsupersite.com/windows/windows-vista-0 Right now I'm going to test it with my games. First up, my favourite, Battlefield 2142. Should work fine xboxrulz. I'm playing it back after my exams are finished, gametag Alegis. Damn algebra. :
  4. It's no use FoRsAkEn, I assume Artluo100 didn't read a single post before he uttered that phrase. I still find it strange they made so much effort in getting beta 2 spread, while it was a mediocre version. The build right after was pretty decent. I reckon it's not because of more bug spotting, but 3rd party awareness of the OS for drivers. Perhaps should have distributed a RTM trial instead - although one could format PC once every month, unless in the trial version it is required to use the key when installing and activated over the internet it would only work for 30 days. Anyways that's not the point. Well I merely linked to the feature lists for those interested. I'm just extremely contra "mweh Vista is just XP SP3 IMO and will only be good in a year orso after a SP"; which isn't the case and is a pleasant change from windows launches. They waited long enough to release this.
  5. Vista basic (aero disabled) should run better than XP, and is definitely more stable. Strange. While it is true better computers make use of more features, it is not a necessity. For Dx 10 it is. Well anyways I'm glad I'm not paying for Vista, but I'd do it.Next 2 windows versions (fiji and vienna) will be in 2008 and 2010. Smaller versions, which I think is a system that will better appeal to everyone than one big leap.
  6. That hardly make it a basic of Windows. It is not a core application on which others rely (thank god they gave up on windows messenger) That is always the case with such protection. The rate is actually 0 for those who make the call to their free local customer support.xboxrulz And holy ****, while configuring my mic (it was actually much better to uninstall the audio programs that came with my mobo and have Vista select another driver automaticcaly) I noticed I forgot to use the speech recognition feature. Been using it the past 2 days and absolutely love it. While I used speech recognition before, this beats it hands down. I miss the option to make custom commands (and not just add dictation words), but it is lovely so far. Just like the search (which works much better than Mac OS X's in search) it is spread over the OS. Open Limewire for example will open it immediately, even though one may have only installed it and not have made any shortcuts or the like. I was surprised by the accuracy of the dictation mode, it's learning process and ease of correction. It makes navigating faster and a whole lot more fun - I think I'll make a seperate topic about this later as it is an overlooked feature that really has me "addicted to it". It is not entirely new of course, but its implementation now in contrast to 3rd party software is much better and new. edit: oh seems I replied already. Oh well.
  7. So you admit you don't know a single thing about Vista yet are one to quickly discourage others to obtain it, despite what has been mentioned here already. I have no choice but to label you as ignorant - do forgive me for that. In a topic for someone asking advice on Vista, you ignore what is mentioned in the topic and post a reply to the topic starter stating you guess it is just a "powerful XP" and MS was just having a 5 year party 'developing' it. Or just wasting their time on 'nothing new'. How about you read what is mentioned, see the links I mentioned earlier and base your opinion or that. Or rather be silent. Or how about reading them NOW.And the OS business has nothing to do with the gaming consoles. It is actually retarded to compare a new OS version with Nintendo Wii (which I have at my home and love). Please, please - read before you post. I feel ashamed in your place for that post. --------------------------------------------- Hmm? How come. Legitimate users that changed hardware stuff like their mobo can easily get a renewal by calling MS.Defense against piracy usually isn't in the favor of regular users for any product anyways. I do hope they give trial versions since they made horrible versions like beta 2 widely available anyways. Note there are upgrade versions, but anyways I'm not here to justify the price tag - just that is a new better product, definitely not an XP SP3 or blatant rip-off. We've beaten this horse to death xboxrulz, but it was fun in the process!
  8. You must be talking about User Account Control. Which is goddamn annoying and the first thing I turned off. It is rather silly this discussion on whether or not software is forced. When I bypass the limitations set by Apple (which did took a while and is in no way intended) to force them to work, rather than pay for an upgrade, I consider it forced since it did work after all on the system. One could say Apple was so kind to alert me I have to upgrade as the previous version is unsupported but I don't believe it to be so. Of course many software with changes have been coded to run on newer technology, it is imminent in tech evolution. Older Windows Messenger versions that don't make use of XP technology on the other side can still be used to communicate with those running Windows Live Messenger. Upgrade is not necessary. And I would hardly consider Live Messenger a basic of software. You can try running those games on older versions, deprived from features that rely on XP code. It would be sad if games wouldn't make use of newer technology. Of course they will only work on a version from 2001. Again, it's as if the Mac ports would run on Mac os 8/9. So what is your point here. I said apple forces them because the software works fine on older versions. This software does not because it makes use of the new technology. Your apple code recital is interesting but beside the point - I dislike their upgrade techniques much more than MS with Windows. Coding limitations. One of the reasons I don't like working with the OSes, it's not made for customization. Supposedly security loopholes fixed. I hated SP2 as well, was not fast and definitely not stable. They did force for things like WMP 11 beta for SP2 to be installed for general security. That is a practice I do not like, such as the airport/safari thing. Although WMP 10 can still play all the media formats 11 does so it wasn't such a big deal.Windows Genuine Advantage means that pirated versions don't get extra features online. I don't suppose pirates should feel entitled to those. Firewall is a waste of space for you and me, as we know alternatives. The majority of windows users however is the "dumb mass" who for example still use IE because they don't know Firefox and all that. If that was mentioned for me, you aren't reading. I do use it.
  9. yeah, but you certainly make it sound like it when you're using acronyms like M$. Please be more consequent then in your thinking. Again, they weren't leeches. They set great standards in a business riddled with failures. They revolutionized. Afterwards some of the sinister market techniques (format ****ing up), which is a little while ago and they've grown away from I'd say. As well as poor code being your point of view. Let me see some of that code please and your corrections on why it is piss poor design. What? What the hell are you raving about. You make it sound like a rant on their doing, while you know you're ranting about something that isn't there (future tense). See, you did. "Blahblah now is similiar to Linux, they're learning now what is superior (..)" and so on, as if they finally found a role model to shape their product to. Again, doubt with the use of 'maybe' while you want to state the opposite as truth. That is a lie, and I can tell from a macbook here in house from my mother, by which it refuses to install latest Safari so I could make use of a banking program to login to bank account (java, all the other programs had piss poor handling of it), as well as Airport admin for configuring Apple's own wireless internet "made easy". And that as well. OS'es get support for at least 10 years. Notice that "you must be running XP" is not comparable to OS X10.3 to 10.4. It is as saying, you need Mac OS X 10 for macintosh and upgrade from OS 9. As well that there is still IE and other basic stuff like Wireless internet for ME, and you are not forced to upgrade to XP. Define, brand new software? You claim new software for windows only works on XP because you're forced (which again is a lie, you may have noticed on websites that on windows it states "For windows 98/ME/XP ..") and on Apple not while I provide great arguments to the contrary which seem to be ignored. Maybe because safe and cheaper are not the compelling arguments for an OS choice? Of course an enterprise product is not cheaper than open source, it is defined in the definition of open source and no one stated that here. The thing is that someone asks about Vista, gets flamed down because it is windows, lacking convincing arguments. Vista is a better product, there is a lot of improvement and it is not Linux. It is about vista versus XP, and it is safer and worth it.
  10. nathaniel,They're offering Windows Live OneCare (free beta now) and every version comes with firewall and malware protection (Windows defender), while leaving opportunity for better third-party applications. If you think VIsta is merely looks you haven't really used it, or checked lists as previously mentioned. Although you did state it gave you a much better experience, then you claim it is but a mere theme change. In other words, I have troubles understanding your post because of some illogical constructions, as well as incorrect statements (virus/protection wise). Else you'd have noticed it offers far more better features for protection/security.Grafitti,define relatively bug-free. I have no troubles using it, and have yet to discover something that even looks like a BSOD. I call that bug-free. No software, especially not when it is as extensive and huge as an OS - is perfect. I don't see which errors in Vista you mean, or how you can conclude that because of the size of the company the software would be perfect. I'm of opinion that stating Vista isn't relatively bug-free (it is especially vs XP) is incorrect. They make improvements in every version on speed/security and it is no less than that for the xp/vista change. Of course, including several features (plug & play ...) and being automatically compatible takes resources, but it handles it efficiently. Linux will remain better in mere speed because of that, I like linux on systems with fewer resources as it was originally made for that purpose. It's not as if big bugs float around on the OS, terrorizing early adapters and MS sitting ducks. With an application as extensive as this, so are bug reports and as bug tester I can guarantee you they aren't just sitting ducks. When you study coding you'll get a better idea of how it works, and why it cannot be perfect.Again, vista is much more than just looks or DirectX 10 for games.
  11. Those who are good at webdesign do Not that difficult to learn, study it for a moment. Or only look up the things that are necessary. I don't really need help in making websites, but finishing them. I never finish anyth
  12. Their lesson? What is your problem with MS (that's an S). Reason Bill Gates is/was richest man on earth while being the single most charity donating person on earth is by starting a business riddled with failures in the past. It seems you lot that represent the company as leeches should do some history. Certainly there is an extensive bad side of their way with formats etc in the past, but by far done more good than bad. What is their lesson. Your assumption of them changing file systems because Linux does so and their idea of trying to imitate them is ludicrous. Especially with Vista they've gone a grand other way than Linux. Which is the reason for both your assumptions. Ignorance. Which can be fixed by actually reading lists to know the changes. I know you have almost no idea of the OS by making that file system comment xboxrulz, even though you claim you've tried RC1. For an indepth changelog and review see Paul Thurrott's site. Not everything is done, because it is so extensive. Yes, there are a lot more changes than merely look and Aero. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And roughly summarised: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista On the contrary to Apple, they tend to release the omitted features in free patches. Microsoft releases an OS every ~4 years, while Apple tends to release smaller OS versions. In total, MS is cheaper and they do not force you to move. While Direct X 10 is a great change integrated in the OS, Safari for example is not. Yet apple forces you to buy the new OS X version for features such as Airport and proper Safari versiosn which work perfectly well int he current OS version instead of free patches. That is ripping off people. I don't see where this $ comes from in M$, backed by anything reasonable. Do tell me. Because "microsoft is finally learning their lesson" is yet another ludicrous statement. You have no idea what you mean by it yourself. That linux is superior? How come this change with Vista then (the way they take the OS on a new path) which is definitely different. Much more integrated features (no hassle manually installing flash, printers and so on in linux) and graphically even more pleasing. Saying they are going the way of Linux is bs. Even if they changed one feature that is similiar to Linux, so do the new distributions. Consider 2 products with different features and them upgrading their next versions taking the best of the other. Some may call this stealing, especially if they're more or less 'fanboy' and it's the other company doing it - but I applaud this doing. It is all in the interest of the customer. And it is certainly not unique to MS in this business, every distrubution has their share in doing so. Which, again, is good for us. It is okay to love Linux and embrace it because it is, for example, Open-source. It becomes wrong however when bashing another product and abandoning reason by doing so. If you made your choice of OS be happy with it. You shouldn't only feel happy after claiming the other products are inferior. I think this is mostly plaguing new Linux users. It's actually funny you're still using "m$" with such a nickname. Actually it isn't funny but as sad as the fervent window users taking all their opportunity to bash on microsoft, yet complimenting Apple's farts on its lovely smell. Notice I'm only taking a defensive position and not attacking anything business wise of Apple/Linux. I state that just in advance if you care to reply. If you feel offended you may feel that, but it is not my intention to impress or insult. It's not as if this is the only topic where you're spouting nonsense about MS/Windows - it's as if you hunt every opportunity. In summary: Stating Vista is heading the way of Linux is demonstration of very poor judgement. No reason to bash MS and abandon reason just because one loves apple/linux. Gates isn't evil Competition is good.
  13. MSN, with MSN + for the superior chatlogs and some other features such as renaming contacts (I hate it when people put their Personal Message in their Nick text and change it often).
  14. While it may seem noble, I think too much work is tied with best post of the week.If one feels the need for a weekly contest, it would be easier for the organisers if it worked "by submit only" so one wouldn't have to hoard over legions of posts.
  15. You'll be surprised how much faster your system is after uninstalling Norton. And they're not really improving it with the next product Genesis, still a system hogger. Norton used to have a popular name, but by no means is system-hogging the only con of Norton. It is not as reliable as Kaspersky or Norton. But anyways. Both are great products. My preference goes towards Norton (also the winner in the 100% awards) for being much more light weight, less intrusive, fast and very reliable. But one shouldn't feel too bad after purchasing Kaspersky.
  16. Alright, this is from someone who has been using betas well over a year and now trying out additional downloadable content. Should you wait for a service pack? In my opinion - no. If you plan on switching, sooner you make the switch the better. Vista has been postponed long enough, and I have no issues at all with Vista. Driver support for 32 bit (I'm not sure of the status of 64 bit) is excellent. I highly doubt Microsoft stated something along those lines. But there are plentiful of other improvements on security. Foolproof, never. As there is no patch for human stupidity. But for applications that do malicious things - for someone with the User Account Control (god forbid) enabled it reduces risk. But that's too much of a pain in the *bottom* anyways and was the first option I disabled. Intel is working now though on smarter chipsets with permissions on programs to disable unwanted background behaviour. But yeah, no code is perfect. And even if one seems near to perfect, adding code will only increase the risk. Agreed. Many ignorant people will shout out it's merely a theme change from XP because the only word they read was Aero. The release of Vista definitely has better driver support and fewer bugs than XP. It is understandable that people want to wait, but Vista is not a defective product now. If you want to switch, I highly recommend to do it now. There are different versions for that. And most people will want to make use of the cheaper upgrade packs. Vista is actually much cheaper than the different OS X versions Apple releases in the same time period, and forces you to buy to make use of basic things like Safari with proper Java support or Airport features. Highly annoying, at least Microsoft releases free patches for extra features. Beta 1 and 2 aren't really comparable to for example, RC1/2 which were much more representable of the final product. I believe he asked for tech feedback, not your attempts at being funny.
  17. Oh no what if Google became as big as Microsoft. Then we'd have to hate Google as well! A new underdog would have to rise for us to proclaim as gods! Or one could have a better focus on things. MS (that's an S, not Mdollar) as well as Google are enterprises seeking expansion and in a way power. It's thanks to competiton and other companies one isn't becoming too powerful. They made an extremely fast expansion and seem to be progressing at a steady pace just like the internet is. I'm not too keen on them taking too much hold over the internet, I highly favor competition.
  18. When you replace your motherboard (or a whole mix of hardware) windows will register the OS as being installed on another system. In your case, changes to motherboard.Give them a call and it'll be fixed, I've known other people on forums who did it this way. I believe customer support is a free number but I don't know which. That's a search for you What I'd do is make sure these are the settings you'd like to keep (boot), and then try calling. Have cd key and stuff ready.
  19. Well, its fun to look at. Especially with new technologies popping out and claiming rip-offs. Companies had easier methods to check on patents I believe but I'm not too sure about that (how would they have checked in the past otherwise).Didn't the US patent site have a search?
  20. The main nice feature of OpenOffice is that it's free (and standard pdf support). Other than that, especially with office 07 I'd have no other reason at all to chose OpenOffice. I'm using the Office 07 Suite right now and I feel like I'm getting worth for my buck. Word XP vs Word 97 wasn't an amazing difference. Word XP wasn't that special from the OpenOffice suits anyways. But again they've set a precedence OO will have to catch up with, and what is a problem with Open source software - graphics. There are (web) demo versions of the Office suite. Working with documents is more efficient and actually much more fun to do with the interface, as well as adding graphs and the like. OpenOffice is good. For someone that merely wants to type a document with nothing more I'd definitely recommend as it's free. Office definitely ads something extra. If you don't think you need it or appreciate it, that is fine with you. Don't take me down for praising an enterprise product rather than opensource. Open source does not mean it's better than enterprise because of some company hate many seem to wield, especially vs microsoft. Try it, it's fun. I absolutely like the vista office suite. I wouldn't say office XP is much or any better than the current Open Office writer.
  21. I don't like them because they don't fit. Or well, the style does not appeal to me.First is basic, nothing really bad about it.Second is tasteless. Forgive me for being unable to describe it well, but it does not feel together. It doesn't stand out, it feels dull.Third is the best. As it is simple! But shouldn't be an evil guy. You're not trying to hurt someone using Xisto are you?Fourth is irrelevant. I like asian girls. The rest of the banner isn't bad at all actually. But its not as if I associate hosting with cute girls (the opposite actually).Making a good banner isnt about trying out effects or copy pasting images, it has to appeal and speak and send a message across. You labelled them as banners and thus I include that in ""rating"" them. It isn't bad.
  22. Kitsune, strange for someone buying a rather expensive upgrade without knowledge of the features? :PAuto healing brush!
  23. It's neat, but please add images between the steps. That is not only useful for the ones following the tutorials, but other people quickly browsing through tutorials checking it's worth. In case you sell products, provide programs for download and the likes one will always get more people interested with a quick screenshot. Reading takes so long :PDefinitely neat for sigs. Many try too hard and come up with something ugly and bulky. Its small, slick and finished. Stopped using signatures anyways.
  24. I did get CS2 as features such as automatic healing looked very handy, and became one of my most used options. Now however I've slacked with Photoshop stuff and a new one definitely doesn't seem it worth for me. Error: Page Not Found I think they'll keep the flash seperate. Photoshop still means photo after all, and will just clutter things up as majority of photoshop users won't find a use for it. It is quite a difference. I do think they might link them better though, like the "import to ImageReady" button. Easily make graphics in photoshop and click one button to import them to the Flash library
