  1. Still inaccessible, no response from xisto.I reckon I should conclude the account and its content have been removed. Oh well. Thanks for the help turbo and buffalo.I haven't deleted any special/system folders or done anything else strange at all. I am also very positive it wasn't an intrusion that gained information from my PC.I would advise Xisto to send a warning to all its members if this same incident shows up again, having the client make back-ups occasionally should decrease the damage done. Luckily I had a SQL back-up made a day prior to this occurrence, wish I could have retrieved some of the files but I'll manage.Edit: Update:Account is online again, all data except for SQL database has been deleted.
  2. That's like saying your biggest strive with FPS is that you don't like shooting. The whole point of a MMO is to have the RPG element on a server with different people. Sure, you may not like it - but if you catch my drift you'll see why that phrase was redundant. If you really need game ideas for 2D, visit flash sites. Games aplenty with stuff or little experiments to try out. Take your favorite movie, take your favorite book and depict some of your favorite scenes.
  3. Nice list, forgot a few of those already. I give you 1/10 troll points. You're not trying hard enough, sloppy presentation and missed a lot of open windows.
  4. Some choose Linux as their resort and hate Windows - and want nothing to do with it. Sure, a good choice. There is a jungle of distros which appeal to many different people. The topic however is one that matches the transition of Windows, or would make it easier for a user. Obvious picks are (k)Ubuntu. Its goal is trying to be as much user friendly as possible. There is also Linux Mint. https://linuxmint.com/ Pleasing to the eye too.
  5. Legions of FUD. As we all know, Microsoft is a company that makes money. This is reason enough for the company to be perceived EVUL by many. Sure, many others will refer to past bad practices of exploiting monopoly - it's the first line where it usually comes down to. The act of reviewing a product based on your own experience has become a lost art, and trolling Microsoft a national sport. But I digress. Same goes for the people saying you should wait for SP1 "because, undoubtedly the product should not be used before that." Well SP1 beta testing is about to start soon. Initial ram usage is higher, but the management better. Vista is better in maintenance and stability than XP, if you match minimum requirements it may be worth it to check it out. Know that you can install any version of windows vista for 30 days without activitation. Find someone with the disc and give it a shot if you aren't sure yet. Students at universities can usually get great deals on MS products. (âŹ40 for ultimate for example).
  6. Deleted none of those. I deleted a folder (not related to music or system folders, just my data) day before. Everything was fine afterwards, account became inaccessible morning after.Files are gone? Ack. Why has the account information changed though then? Now I'm able to "access" the URL (not that it displays anything, or cpanel allow me to open it), past few days it was server not found. I would think its server related.
  7. Seems you're right indeed, forum password does work.Don't have sufficient credits to continue the procedure though, so I'll just wait for a response from Xisto - Support.
  8. Hmm. Although that wouldn't explain why the data on my account is inaccessible. I tried changing the account, said username/pass is invalid. As for those other issues, stopped reading the first one when it was confirmed the poster was hacked by an admin. Thought it was irrelevant I'll just assume the downtime is a strange occurrence. Made a ticket (thanks for the information), I'll bide my time.
  9. Hey,my FTP and Xisto/account cpanel do not recognize my account/password combination anymore. My hosting space (onzeklas.astahost.com) has also become inaccessible. Is this server down, has my account been removed or compromised? Thanks in advance.
  10. Then open your wallet and pay for quality. Free MMOs are crap. If you're still reluctant, try trials of some good MMOs. Try Lord of the Rings: Online - it's an example of how MMO questing should be done, and not tireless grinding. Has a strong emphasis on exploring and lore as well. Warning: I suspect you are a minor (not difficult to tell), good MMOs have long dialog and quest frames. If reading is not for you, go back to FPS. You can easily get lost if you're not paying attention. Try the immense popular MMO World of Warcraft trial. Has a very good combat system, land lovely world design. I still recommend LOTR: O though as you can see the difference in free grind games and "the real thing", and especially fun with some friends to play the epic quest lines.
  11. Now now careful there, proceed with caution when your line of thought is nearing the Jack Thompson Danger Zone. It's not really exclusive to gaming. After a skiing vacation I always have the urge to ride my bicycle faster. The examples brought up in the article are rather odd cases. "Warp your sense of reality" is also somewhat exaggerated, to say the least - we're not talking about surreal landscape transformations. Also, in related news: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ First Person Shooter Syndrome Leaves Man Psychologically Damaged
  12. Are you talking about porting an old database to a new one, with the same version of a bulletin board used on both databases? They're all piss easy and the process is precisely the same - dump, restore. Use phpMyAdmin rather than the features on the admin panel. They're even easy between different versions of one product; it only gets more challenging for different software (luckily enough converters exist). It shouldn't take too long to spot the differences in how the data is kept, run your script to change all the sql values and you're golden. Even if you can't get it right the first time, back-ups are your friend.
  13. Oh the problem isn't picking the password, many people who "claim they have been hacked" have been known to just write it down somewhere in sight or give it to the first moron that claims he's from the company where said person has an account. There is unfortunately no patch for human stupidity.
  14. Don't just 'buy' the latest card or a random that meets requirements. There are several ranges of Graphics card such as "Do your job well, best bang for your buck" "That card that does it 2% better and costs $150 more" "That ridiculously overpriced card that won't reach its maximum capabilities for you." Needless to say, stick to the first mentioned category. I recommend Tom's Hardware site http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/ They have a very good monthly review of graphics card, with their performances tested and the best pick for each card in each price category. Get your pick for which price you're willing to pay for it, and you can see what that card is capable of. Here is the September 07 review: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (In case you wait long with your purchase, consult the October review of course).
  15. Well realistic yes, although in essence it's still the same - you have a bar and if bar is empty you die. In this case you dodge lethal attacks while bar is still up. A neat addition.Haven't seen much of it lately, although combat was worrying. It looked repetitive, with bashing on only one mob at a time. Some vids showed some strange group gameplay where the Assassin was trapped between animation spikes from the different attacks.Besides that, searching for your target and running away from the cops looked great.
  16. This poll is a bit bad. I'm highly against fanboy war-crap, in which the outcries of Linux fans outweigh those of any other (well, maybe a close tie with Apple fans) OS fangroup. Usually a minority, convinced of their favorite product's superiority and need to convert everyone to their religion. it's gotten to a point where those few fanboys (only a portion of the OS userbase) making a lot of noise are incredibly annoying. MINE IS BETTER. Guess what, competition owns. We all have several needs and place priorities on other crap. Linux is very tech friendly, and very preferable to use on several non-PC systems. It has a lot of disadvantages as well, which I'm sure you're capable of finding as well. You might not find them disadvantages because your needs don't place a high value on them, others do. Apple is for those who like it simple, and pays its price in customizability and compatibility on many aspects. Doesn't have to be rich, as long as it's "all-in-one". That's fine. Each have a designated market and most (especially those in linux/apple) are comfortable with their choice. It's not that Windows users haven't heard of the other options and need to have it spammed in their faces to be "converted to the light side". There would be so much less crap on the internet if it were "X fits me better than Y" than all the "War of the OS world, MY OS IS BETTER, YOU ARE IGNORANT YOU FOOL!" garbage that is everywhere. /rant That put aside, I'm familiar with several OS and for my desktop at home prefer Vista in many aspects. Despite what XP fans may think (Yes, XP is great and I have been using it too. But guess what, Vista is indeed much more than just graphics), Vista is vastly superior in stability. Initial ram usage is higher, but not why you think it is (it has better ram management) I lost a good quote on this, I'll try to find it back. I also have the machine (SUPAH COMPUTER 10000$! ) to support it.
  17. Firefox is vastly superior to Internet Explorer in many ways, mainly because of it's customizability and huge archive of add-ons. The web makes an entire difference without those ads that you won't click anyway - they don't provide any incentive for me to do so. Sponsered links in Google may pique my interests, considering I'm looking for that thing at that time. Not interested in clicking some random bunny. This add-on alone warrants enough reason to consider this alternative. Many lay-outs don't become broken too because of oversized ads (or bad positioning). If you have memory problems, you'll have to cut down on the amount of add-ons. Several add-ons are specialized in running at lowest resources, there are lists of those that are bad (like fasterfox). Only need to be concerned with this if you have troubles with memory. Considering IE was left in such a bad state for so long, Mozilla is still faster with updates and providing support. News of the third version is rolling in while IE is still slacking behind, threatening to fall in another slumber. The v7 update was a good one though, designed to keep their casual users from switching for tabs. If you have something against Firefox, may it be thanks to its 'popularity' try out Opera, try out a TC for IE ... Any web designer will tell you what a pain it is to get advanced layout sites working in IE, before resorting to 'lesser methods'. HOWEVER. Giving it to your aunt or uncle, a casual computer user not as knowledgeable in our favorite hobby - will probably not yield desired results. It's the same to them, and they'd rather click a blue E they're familiar with. If you want to convince them, do it for the ads/popup crap. These people are VERY susceptible to clicking all that "YOU ARE THE 100000TH VISITOR, ZOMG" crap and get 'scammed'.
  18. I have my eyes on this game, I'll watch it a bit after release. Most likely depends on my mood at launch if I fancy endulging myself in another multiplayer FPS, it's been a while since battlefield . But ET: Quake Wars definitely seems to provide a nice product, and it's not from EA.
  19. Sigh, private servers. If you want to try out the game so badly, check out the WoW and Burning Crusade 10 days trial. In fact, in october there will be a battlecrest release: WoW+ Burning Crusade + 2 strategy guides for €32. A real steal. But I reckon most players here work with an allowance and thus look for emulated/free stuff. To each his own. One thing I can say though is that those who only played until 60 never really got to taste much of it. The starter areas have been done well (especially blood elf/Draenei/Night Elf), but there's much more behind it. End-game PvP and raiding is where most fun is to be had, but that'll take some time lvling. Just because an MMO demands subscriptions doesn't make it worse than another, like GW. GW PvE content is laudable, while it excels at quick counter PvP. In fact wouldn't really call GW an MMO considering everything is instanced on several smaller servers (rather than one MASSIVE server). In case of WoW, I certainly did feel I got my money's worth each month with the tons of new content and good server maintenance. Don't be narrow-minded on that aspect.
  20. After a week release, Archlord stripped away its monthly fee, now they even removed the game cost and you can download it for free. It's a micro-transaction game, those who want to can buy some consumables or other crap there. The basic premise of Archlord is that on every server there are timed countdowns for when another being becomes the Archlord, and City sieges. Apparantly the Archlord is almighty and can help people achieve certain goals or wreck havoc. City sieges sound fun. However, game got a lot of bad reviews at release for being too much of a grindfest, exactly what non-MMO players would think MMO's were like. If it would be as bothersome as a free game I'm not too sure, some seem to like it. /legacy http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ArchLord - Set in the world of Chantra, this game is an epic fantasy mix, featuring lush in game graphics and a soft sensual soundtrack brilliantly scored by the London Symphony Orchestra. ArchLord brings together all the elements that make MMOs so enjoyable but with a unique hook, the chance to rule the in game world and with it receive a range of benefits. be warned, might be too much of a grindfest to appeal to you. Then again, many who only play free MMOs generally don't have high standards to begin with.
  21. Great thing about XP compared to Vista atm is compatibility on some stuff. I didn't have much troubles with Vista considering compatibility until recently: struggling to get surround working. On the other hand I find Vista so much more reliable on other aspects such as stability. Wouldn't be surprised others would state the opposite when compatibility problems take their toll on that aspect.
  22. Why not if you decide to use them, well knowing of the alternatives? Wouldn't make too much sense to exclude it. Anyways, Firefox Irfanview Media Player Classic Ventrilo Xfire Download Accelerator Plus Xchat Windows Media Player Windows Live Messenger (Plus!) Adobe Photoshop CS 2 SmartFTP Netlimiter 2 Azureus Microsoft Office Word 07 Picasa R (Statistical Software package) winRAR Nero 7 Ultra Edition Fraps Gmail Notifier NOD32 About it. About all of them used on a daily basis. As for games software ATM No One Lives Forever 2 World of Warcraft
  23. A long time online, which I don't really mind necessarily. Thanks to firefox addons such as "leechblock" I've been able to quit getting into "forum refresh loops." https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/leechblock/ Basically you can set timers for when some sites are blocked. Neat for productivity.
  24. That's actually a good site, very extensive knowledge base support system. I'd only hope other support sites would be more like that. Don't let hate cloud your judgment. As for worst sites, somethingawful.com usually has an "awful link of the day" feature which is usually horrendous. As for other sites and their communities that piss me off, I'd say gaiaonline.com netlog.com
  25. AVG or Avast? If I'm not mistaken, AntiVir is free too and scores much higher on AV comparison tests. For those who speak Dutch: https://tweakers.net/nieuws/47805/detectiekwaliteit-onecare-gaat-langzaam-vooruit.html (still a chart you can read though) For those who speak English (the .pdf report of the company): http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Quite good test actually. AVG scores quite horrendously low. As just a user you can't really test the detection schemes properly yourself.
