That movie has hardly anything to do with the regular home user operating system. Either fake, or not related. I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be.WinFS was postponed for Vienna I reckon. Hope it gets released sooner than before, with WinFS. They do spend quite a lot of time on security which I hardly care for.

Windows, Linux or Mac. What do you tink to this sistems
Alegis replied to jamesleon's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Sure, people prefer Macintosh or Linux. There are different people out there with different needs, and each has very attractive features to accomodate those. However, people who assume Windows users aren't using it out of choice but mere ignorance are morons. Stop thinking so childish and acknowledge the good features of ""the enemy"" (even though only a fanboy would consider a rival OS an enemy). Competition is good. Don't hate the product you're not using. It affects your judgment and makes you say stupid things like that. -
But in this case, converters are supported for RC releases. Meaning they will support database converters for RC1 -> RC2 (or Release). It is rather stable and supported.Same case here, security doesn't bother me one bit for my rather small community. Also included robots.txt and removed my cached/search files from Google.

Never Give Out Your Password! For real
Alegis replied to Nintendo's topic in Security issues & Exploits
It is common sense. So much common sense that I feel no sympathy for morons that give their hotmail/ebay password in so called 'fake administration mails'.'Sharing an account can compromise its security' -
The url redirection I have best experience with is http://www.noip.com/. Professional, with a lot of services. Mainly a great help for those with dynamic IPs. In any case, never get something stupid like .tk. IN this case .tk is slow as hell, and it's not worth the extra advertisements for a "yourulez.org" address.

I'm more or less opposed to the thought thinking that the collective mass of citizens knows whats best for them. Politics, especially here in Belgium, have become a popularity contest. A German teacher of mine used to say, "to think an uninformed regular citizen has the right to vote, is similar as to how a butcher should have the right to perform surgery". The vote of the bulk people of the country is uninformed and influenced mostly by which faces they happen to see, or usually propaganda/superficial thoughts. As Aristotle (or some other greek of his age) said, 'the majority isn't necessarily right' when they introduced citizen voting in ancient Greece. And in this case I believe the majority today is unfit to make a decision on how the government should work.

As I understand it, some servers require the client to be in active mode - rendering it not entirely a client side choice. Never bothered to understand the difference, just switched to active when this was necessary. Thanks for clearing that up. People who have troubles with ports on their NAT/router should visit https://portforward.com/ for an easy introduction on port forwarding and a guide for almost each router model.

I understand upgrading phpbb 2 to SMF, but as Sten said - phpBB3 has been released and it is simply amazing.Consider upgrading to phpbb3 first, it is superior on many aspects - especially design wise. Prosilver theme on phpbb3 is astounding.

Removing Information From Google Search Engine
Alegis replied to Hillary1405241547's topic in Search Engines
Just happens I was wondering about this myself yesterday. Many thanks for the links, I managed to request an entire site removal at google.Nice site dashboard management system there. -
Waw, Avant Browser. Used this years ago before I even knew Firefox properly. It was a nice browser 'extention' or 'frame'. It was definitely a huge improvement over IE. But the problem is, it's built on the IE engine. I really recommend you try out Opera (fast/easy) or Firefox (also fast and easy, with a giant library of extensions for extra features).

How To Download Mircosoft Word And Powerpoint?
Alegis replied to luckyboy3123's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you want something free, I suggest OpenOffice or even easier alternatives like GoogleDocs/Spreadsheats for basic Word Processing. If you want real advanced word processing, try LaTeX. Not really suited for general use though, it's populair with scientific papers because of the extra power you get in controlling how equations & symbols are displayed.Myself I definitely prefer working with Office Vista, but I don't think you (the OP) will miss out on features with OpenOffice. Just get something with a spell checker, you need it :\ -
Safari For Windows? My Safari on Windows opinion and review
Alegis replied to xboxrulz1405241485's topic in Software
I don't think it's suiting as browser at all. Like all apple for windows software it is hardly stable (doubt the removal of the beta tag will help) and in features limiting to say, Firefox. Their graphs on their main site indicating browser usage in pie charts have been made by very delusional minds. But I guess that wasn't their goal at all, but to introduce Safari as platform for their iPhone. Devs will have to make shite compatible with Safari to make it work on iPhone now they have been deprived of any SDK. I feel sorry for those who wish to buy the gadget and make full use of it. -
Lag is so 1999!For those with power it does run better. I still have yet to (wait, did I already say this? I guess not) defragment or format this installation since november RTM - and it still runs as fast as before except for a longer start-up (naturally). With XP I'd have to defragment every month or two at least, and format every 6 to keep a fast machine. It definitely takes care of itself better, and faster response time when multitasking.

Google projects! I like them for their simplicity. It seems a fast and easy to work WYSIWYG editor. Not only fast and easy to make the site with, but to get started. Enter google password and ready to go, instead of *shudder* lycos with a horrible interface to get working.Going to try it out some more later, I really like the concept for WYSIWYG.I don't see why people look down on WYSIWYG in general. For sites for intermediary or advanced users you definitely achieve better results with normal editing and use of Cascading Style Sheets - but for something quick that has to be simple it is definitely recommended for those that don't want to spend too much time learning. They usually get better results from WYSIWYG anyways.

According to this site http://typera.net/applet.cws?language=du I reached 369 keys per minute ~ 73 words per minute as a record. Although in reality I don't always type as fast and my error count is a little bit higher than I desire. Like the OP I also constantly rephrase stuff. I've also never learned to use all 10 fingers, I just jump around with 4. I play the piano, so I'm used to that. Change the language of the link to English of course.

I Didn't Know Only English Sites Were Accepted
Alegis replied to Matoking1405241541's topic in Web Hosting Support
Then you should contact the owner of free-webhostst to add that. Free-webhosts is not affiliated with Xisto in any way, can't really blame Xisto for any irregularities. The owner will appreciate your input though.I think I used that same site to find this place. Sorry to hear about your wasted effort. -
"very laggy" is dependant on so many factors. Of course you need better hardware to run some extra functions, but as it is an option I don't see why people cry about it. Yes you can downgrade Vista functions to accomodate your PC's hardware. For people like me who invested in better PC's it's great to have.Myself I find multi-tasking with Vista easier for several reasons (preview/faster responsiveness/..) and on this same hardare machine on which I ran XP earlier I have a better experience as I found XP acting 'cloddy' after a while. I had to defragment/format all the time to ensure it kept on running steady. In fact I haven't defragged/formatted since I got Vista RTM in November and I don't notice any slowdowns at all. I've only gotten a bluescreen once from plugging in a broken iPod that caused hardware failure. In other words, don't have this one freezing. While Vista does supply some nice new eye candy and there are plenty screenshots of those, for some reason many seem to think that this improvement went to the cost of performance/reliability. Performance is a good guess if you don't have the hardware to support it, so you just disable it. Nay sayers claim that you shouldn't get Vista then as if it's the only new feature. It's definitely more reliable, despite the lack of Service Packs.XP had many faults at release. Reason you don't see a Vista SP yet is because there is no real need. People assume the release version is brokenbeyond recognition until they get "a SP or 2".

Avoid Accidental Caps Lock Key Hitting
Alegis replied to niran's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't like this method at all. Not only for the blinking, but for every windows sound causing flashes. Why do people accidentally hit the caps lock key, or a better question - do you actually NEED the caps lock key? I think most people keep SHIFT pressed as they're used to it. You don't hit caps lock to merely capitalize one key, and we stick to that habit. I think it's wiser to replace your caps lock key with a 3rd control key, as I did a while ago. There are several sites with different methods to achieve this, try the following: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -
Hiding Your Personal Files From Pros More serious approach to privacy
Alegis replied to xerxes1405241546's topic in Software
That's the whole point of security. Someone who can't get in your OS can't access them - otherwise someone would be able to leech the files off your HD by using something like EnCase. It's only evident that if you invest in security you lose some ease of use. You guys are paranoid! -
What makes you assume that? Even if it's rising, the Apple PC market (3% is it nowadays? 4%?) is still a trifle number. If Microsoft were to base Windows on Unix I'd see more complains and shared cries from the Linux community, in selling something that is based on open-source. Isn't there some kind of GNU license prohibiting that as well? Anyways, the products are and need to be different. Windows is a behemoth that is designed to make it easier (automatic processes) for the user, while Apple prefers a "fashion over function" limited, toned down in UI options. And yes there is a huge difference between ease of use being hidden in automatic processes, and only seeing fewer options. The automatic options where Linux shines (CPAN installs that get required prerequisites) isn't for the bulk of people, and exes take a similar approach. And more recently, the other way. It looked otherwise because of Vista's slow release. Also be more careful with the use of stealing, it's only wise for companies to be inspired by their competitor to work away their own faults. You get better products in the end.
-
Surprised? Shouts of Vista being a failure at selling that you may have heard before were merely unfounded and FUD from those who want it to fail. Only fanboys rejoice in seeing their ""opponent's"" company fail. But I digress, back to topic. Source: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ An interesting comment from fkr3 at digg reads; That's 400,000 licenses a day, which means It takes about 3 days for new Vista users to exceed Linux-as-a-desktop users. It takes about 4 days for new Vista users to exceed Mac's sales. It takes about 2 weeks for new Vista users to exceed Mac's users. I've still yet to experience a crash, since using RC1.

Just when MSN started to get on my nerves for being obtrusive and inefficient lay-out someone told me of the recently released Pidgin. While his primary choice was to have a messenger with low ram usage, I preferred to compact look and unobtrusive handling of new messages. In case you use multiple messengers you can combine them here into one window, and it seems you can even get on IRC but I haven't tried that yet nor do I think I'll ever require it as I have XChat for that. For those who were familiar with GAIM, same team - different name because of legal issues with AOL. http://www.pidgin.im/ The message window is even better. Text after the name, as many are used to from IRC. Some functionality is lost such as subtext and webcam. Both which I don't mind - and I'd have preferred a better display picture manager. Tips for after install: disable sound, and enable logging. I like the logging mechanism of Pidgin, displayed as messages are with a working and efficient search function - the default MSN logging is horrible.

It sure is easy to commit slander when no one asks you to back up some of those claims. Or I have the impression some just pretend to be dense. The alternative is not pleasing. How so. Security, drivers? I'd say it's standing well on its feet, and driver issues as experienced with post XP-release have been handled for the majority before release. Notice how it took considerably longer than before. So you admit that Vista is but headaches and only a new interface. It's amazing how much people can learn from reading. If I compare myself to your case, it would be like me reviewing Spider-Man 3 without having seen anything but the movie posters. I think the effort is wasted on you, but do yourself and others a favor and enlighten yourself on any product before you commit yourself to reviewing and advising.http://winsupersite.com/windows/windows-vista-0

Windows Vienna Next Version of Windows
Alegis replied to delivi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Note the fault in your reasoning here. You act surprised that they would be able to release a windows soon, after there has been one that was so slow - while at the same time you can't have forgotten yet they released products prior to that.Strange? No, rather only reasonable more products seem to come faster when this last one was already admitted to be a very slow release. One event does not make it a trend! (It rhymes) A more 'episodic' OS subscription system seems to be more favorable. -
A bit vague, no? There are many who believe the opposite even though they haven't even touched it yet. When you make a topic about something you like, it does help if you explain yourself more.
