New Version Of Windows: Windows Fiji
Alegis replied to swizzeron's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You're already bashing a development name? You do know that the last 2 versions of windows (vista incl) had completely different dev names? No, that's a customer way of thinking and not a corporate one. A customer would assume that the more the merrier, all 100% focus from every job position should focus on the comikng product as they'd assume that would bring them a greater product. Corporations use future plans. They need to draw a line of progress; they've outlined what vista will (not) bring - and need to work out how they plan on bringing features they did miss in the future. A next OS, Service packages? And with a company the size of microsoft, more isn't the merrier. Compare it like 20 people working in the kitchen, it's as effective as 6 because the others are running in each others way all the time. Ideas, Product outlining, (Fiji dev name and features) are all things that can be done while Vista is being produced. It wold be VERY unwise for a company like microsoft to only think one step ahead. In chess, that loses your game. You need to have a version roadmap. -
Well if I'm with allies they either dissapear (where the hell did my DB murderer ran off to ?) or kill each other. Or guards start attacking them. Weird ****.Still, awesome game. I loved the endings of DB and mages. At first when doing all those recommendation quests you get a bad image of Hannibal Traven, which resulted in a strange love for the char in the end.Great voice acting, lovely setting. My char is a bit too badass with the full enchanted glass + DB hood look thing. Cast weakness to fire 100%, and either firedmgstaff (80firedmg on strike) or 25fireonstrikedeadrabow. Some things make the game a bit too easy in dungeons like invisibility. With those oblivion gates I'd merely run to the top with invis, save before I get the sigil stone and keep loading that until I get a nice firedmg stone for my bow. Things like nightvision can be enchanted as well on a piece of armor. Many say that they're sad it doesn't include a multiplayer, but there is just no way. The balancing is horrible (enchant to 100% chameleon) and a MP in it would make little sense. And things like that one shouldn't use the skills you use most often as your major skills. And spamming them is so easy, power gaming is really easy and without it game gets quite difficult.Couldn't complete thieves quest because it was bugged, the messenger for last quest wouldn't come to me -at all-. I reckon I should play it again some time; I did enjoy it. Although when I start I'm getting a crapload of balance mods in (stuff like, lvl up +5 for all skills - and don't bother powergaming). It's also near impossible to play an archer type of hero without bow mods; it's too weak and way too inconvenient. The fighters guild quests any good? Didn't do those.

Although this is not really news for this forum and covered.Support in browsers is different. IE for example is late with the newest CSS implementations etc. -
Online tests ! While usually crap (or nonsense like "Which *insertseries* character are you?") I don't disgregard one too soon. Of responses I've read and own 'result' I kinda like this one; http://www.4degreez.com/misc/personality_disorder_test.mv Be honest ! I had "People with schizoid personality disorder avoid relationships and do not show much emotion. Unlike avoidants, schizoids genuinely prefer to be alone and do not secretly wish for popularity. They tend to seek jobs that require little social contact. Their social skills are often weak and they do not show a need for attention or acceptance. They are perceived by others as humorless and distant and often are termed "loners."" Fits me.

I'm always online except when asleep. I'm an internet addict; but I accept that and can live with that. Actually, I wish to.Sites I visit, communities I post in, chatting, gaming and "work'. Teaching myself now quite some things. I don't think i should be cutting down my online time, but rather do more stuff.

Love the game, one of main reasons I got a gamecube in the first place. Favorite character - Fox !Although I don't take anything to a tournament lvl (which i'd be amazed to find here), not using that many advanced tactics but I did scout for those some time ago.Usually I just play some duels vs my brother who's pretty good with Luigi.Brawl looks so damn awesome, only letdown is you'll *have* to use the old gamecube controllers

It's confirmed http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Well, E3 isn't an amusant park after all I guess. Other shows may get more attention now, and dev information not cluttered by long waiting lines.
-
While next-gen bizz claimed that E3 would be cancelled (well, they did say it wouldn't exist in its current form), following article claims it will be downsized. Next gen article http://www.gamesradar.com/edge/ I do understand though that lines were getting too full and prices soaring, while information gets spread pretty convenient/fast/easy over the web. I do hope I ever get to see E3 http://arstechnica.com/uncategorized/2006/07/7382/

Oh really, they should focus on security ... I wonder what they have done for the past years and what the main point of Vista is, including stuff that even annoys the user like UAC. Please, do open your eyes ? 10 gigs of graphics ? What an overstatement. Right. No actually, not right. It's not just a patch, at all. Also why coding and testing has taken so long. It's pretty obvious with the avatars/sigs some posting here are avid Linux fans. I think that's great, but please don't sprout nonsense. There are several bad things about Windows and Microsoft for sure, there's no need to invent or assume stuff that isn't, you have enough to chew on the former. To the original post, yep issues will arise as it isn't easy at all to craft an OS. Definitely not with client friendy UI as Windows craves. Good thing is that with public beta a lot of information has poured in, and the client version that followed beta 2 had great improvements. Too bad that version didn't get to be beta 2. I don't expect more issues at release than were for XP at release. There's a lot of new code that can have issues, but the bug feedback and response team improved as well. I do find it regrettable things like DirectX 10 will only be featured on vista; I like XP as many others do. I'm not a fanboy of either OS. I use XP, OSX and Kubuntu on 3 computers.

I'm definitely not touching myspace. And I don't really dig community profile things like this.I tried Orkut since I thought i'd be easy signing up with google account, but seems it works invitation based. If anyone has one he can't lose, sonix.b at gmail dot com. It's not my main email address, one I use for some registrations I don't trust etc. Or forums I don't trust -
Done that experiment a lot of times at school. Never was really amazed by it though. The movie you're looking for is, on the other hand, quite neat. This is the one; http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ edit : Oh crapberries. "This video has been removed due to copyright infringement." These vids are not the same as the fountain one ... But something. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Has Anyone Bought The Video iPod ? So should you buy one?
Alegis replied to iGuest's topic in Science and Technology
Ah depends on your usage of course. It is an okay stable product ... but how often would you use it ? Every day to watch those anime eps ? Excellent, your money's worth.Well video ipod has 20 mins of battery life I think. It's also smaller than previous generations. I reckon the rest is same except for performance and zomg color screen. I still got a third generation ipod, which usually freezes for a dozen seconds orso and hard drive has been making some noise now and then. I do have it for 3/4 years though. -
PSP is dead and but a mere shadow in the success of DS. A good article I read a few days ago (I just lovedigg.com[/url]) includes some concinving material to support that statement http://consolemedia.gameworldnetwork.com/aphp/id/747/p/1/ There are only 3 games (compare with DS - 13+ ) which sold over a million copies. The games just get dull pretty quickly and the range of "must have games" is very small. A handheld is a handheld. You have to be able to bring it somewhere and play immediately, with the long loading times of PSP this is very troublesome. Besides, when they advertised PSP sony called it "the ultimate hardcore gamer machine". I questioned myself with "aren't the hardcore games gaming at home on their pc or console ? A handheld shouldn't merely try to be a portable console with same games. DS offered these fun "mobile" games. As for revolutionary or innovative, I don't think again bringing more graphics belongs to that category. Nintendo appealed to a huge market of casual players or would-be gamers and got them in. A company that achieves that is innovative for bringing more in market. Note Kageru that the clamshell design of DS is actually better vs scratches and the like.

Wow, I collected names from around 100+ posts in less than a day. Great days work I noticed of course that tech related sites, or boards with an advanced offtopic fora with a lot of random nonsense gave some funny names. Another community where the users read more books gave some cool references from Shakespeare and so on. Yet it is there I got the coolest tech related name. A few names on the list were; Oberon Twinkles Heraclitus Yorick Belus Bundy / Rum Caliban Osiris or Anubis (Anubis is quite good and fits with Pollux) Falstaff Pikitup Gandalf Belarus Havelock Chiyo Mr.Troutwhistle Pixel Maron Fernand Noodles Nietsche Baka Pushkin Azzaro Fiero Chocopousse Styx nacho Edwardo From which I preferred Pixel. Pixel is neat and fits me as a geek. Nacho a close second. A third pic of the cute incarnate Was definitely a great idea, I reckon I may get some more names (which are good for a chuckle). Anyways I'm very pleased with Pixel, wouldn't have come up with that one myself.

I've seen it before (although it was most likely a joke) of a bloke on the official World of Warcraft fora taking suggestions how to name his newborn child after a WoW character. While reactions shifted from enthousiastic to negative (concerning addiction etc etc) I saw some cool names there like "Nathanos" for a guy. Anyways, this morning I acquired a new pet. However, I can't come up with a decent name (or rather, assume I can get a great one here) for cuteness incarnate. My plan thusfar was to make pictures, craft a topic and take suggestions. While it isn't as 'grave' as naming a child I hope to find some cool suggestions from several communities relating to the active topics there. As this is a more tech related website, I hope for some cool technology name tips. Name it ! Link a kitten name with tech etc ! I'll try to keep progress up here on what cool results I collect. i'm trying to avoid classic names such as Felix and Minoes. As with all cats I've had it loves to climb to my shoulder (I just woke up-fuzzy hair ftw)and shout. Doesn't mix rather too well (yet) with the current cat, Pollux Resembles a kitten I used to have several years ago which was called Groosephy (it's how the mice in Disney's Cinderella pronounce "lucifer" the cat). Another latin/greek mythology name like Pollux (Castor & Pollux - Castor is long since gone) is also an idea. Or something japanese whatever. Isn't restricted to those categories (here tech preferred). FABULOUS prizes to win !

Is Your Internet Speed Good Enough Vs. Cost ?
Alegis replied to Cookiemonster1405241499's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Speed here is okay, I can't complain too much. I reckon I pay 39.95€/month for an everage download speed of 300kb/secfeatures some nice additions like special actions (printing photo's etc) - which i should actually use- and ftp space however, only 10gb bandwidth a month. This is how things are done in Belgium and I fecking hate th ebandwidth limits. 5€ for extra 5GB : \ -
You've made several statements like that so far, but I'm not sure they concince the topic starter. At least they do not prove anything for me. I have some kubuntu CDs somewhere on my desk right now, meaning to try it out at some point. However I do like my customized XP a lot and I'm not going to seriously try out OSes where I will run under emulation for most parts; that would be gimping the system. If you have some charts or benchmarks I'd love to see them. As well as the topic starter I'm interested to how this turns out.

Oh the Rubik's cube, fun times. I was interested in it for a while 3 years ago and completed it several times. I reckon my best was around 8 minutes.Of course now I forgot all the special tricks and combinations, but this page sparkled some interest again. I may go at it again just to relearn myself the combination for showing off at several events."Oh hey look, I just happen to have a Rubik's in my pocket !"My last rubik's cube had a little guide that came with it, with arrows etc of some of the combination tricks for moving a combination of tiles to specific spots. I'll try finding that again as the illustrations made it much easier to grasp than text on a computer screen.

Although I own the beta versions of Vista, I'm not really going to comment on it. I noticed several 'lethal' bugs (such as crashing when trying to read several DVDs) and it isn't gold yet.I only started using Windows ever since 98; however I loved XP the most. Compared to 98, plug n play finally worked (rather than plug and pray).Featured great stuff added in ME which didn't really get noted because the version was abysmal. Bad cohesion, riddled with bugs. Talking about features like Restore Windows, which I have used a lot.Much easier and better to better clean up and organise computer. I had fewer troubles with XP than the other versions, and these were fixed in a rapid rate. I'd never go back from XP to, let's say 98. Many (as well as I did when trying out beta) might prefer xp over vista because of the solid product. MS didn't have it easy to compete with their own product. It would also be, IMO and at least for me, go back to older versions as they hardly support many new technologies crafted over the years. Especially internet wise.

I believe it had something to do with bad balancing in 1.6 which upset a lot of people. Got source when I played HL2 for the singleplayer and wasn't all too impressed. Graphics and physics are of course very nice but I'm not a fan of the gamestyle. While buying etc adds an interesting feature (as well as continue with the amount of money you raise) I no longer wondered why so many, strangers to the game, hear so much about camping/laming in CS. Because you're annoyed you have to wait a round, great potential for just luck or cheap shots, lame tacs etc I lost interest pretty fast. Recently played CS (original) at a small LAN thingy. Bearing the horrible voice acting (I know it's a mod and awesome at that) I found it ok to play with few people and in smaller maps. At least, great with people you know. Kewl LAN game, online community smothered IMO.

The Illusion Of (free) On The Internet!
Alegis replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hello Mobham, A feature such as Merriam Webster or for example, dictionary.com (for which you do not need to pay money to use the service) lists all definitions of for example free. This is a collection of instances where and how the word can be used. Now, when people say 'The internet is free" they use the definition of the word 'not costing money'. You claim to debunk this statement by filling in the other contextual meanings of free and debunk those. This is a logical fallacy which is called "the straw man". http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ While I appreciate your efforts to inform other people (for free) that they'll have to perform effort on the web, just like they performed certain effort to open this page, you're not debunking the Illusion of free. It's as if I'd take a certain statement from someone, replace the meaning of a word with something else in the dictionary, and debunk that. Straw man. -
The Illusion Of (free) On The Internet!
Alegis replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It's ridiculous. Sure you take some examples as .tk, but it's definitely insufficient information to generalise. Because the internet features such easy to reach content, those people that love doing stuff for free have a huge market. Free stuff does exist. Free support does exist on the web. Free programs that enhance your working or surfing experience better than commercial products DO exist. You don't pay for the majority of "fun stuff" on the web now do you. You don't pay for viewing websites (not to those websites. Don't use the ISP as argument, we're talking about content delivered for free on the web). As long as there are people who like doing stuff for free this will continue. And I don't see it ending. Basically you're saying the statement "The internet has stuff for free" is false by broadening the definition of the word "free" used here to, without money and effort while it's obvious only 'without money' is meant here. You didn't refute anything here. You merely stated you can't get stuff without effort. I'm sure some preschoolers didn't know that yet. You always perform effort. Either effort to look, open something ... This is ridiculous. You don't pay for every content or program the web has to offer. People make stuff available to you without you having to pay them for it. -
The Moon Landing - Real Or Fake
Alegis replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Science and Technology
And thus rather pointless to go on. All the 'facts' have been raised. My word vs your word now A bit like religion, except that we know a few people do know the real answer. As for me; I realise that faking the moon landing would have been positive for the nation's image, as they were in some kind of space battle with the communist Russians. And capitalism wouldn't want communism to have a certain point of superiority anywhere. Yet I do believe in the NASA and the capabilities of Space Exploration back then and now. They could have done it yet it was merely extremely expensive. Reminds me of a hilarious flash movie clip of so-called proof why the moon landing was fake. Something with the shadow of toilets etc. Lost the link however -
Cancer Cure? Anyone Know If This Is True?
Alegis replied to KewlKC07's topic in Science and Technology
I believe they cured this with labrats right ? But then again, never sure how true it is (could have been coincidental, or that korean scientist case). Then again, how does it affect humans. They may be able to cure it on for example the chimpanzee and still take 20 years before a good cure for humans is developped. At least they're giving signs of progress. I think that's the important factor with these discoveries. And yes Illini, most deaths or future threats are global warming and other natural causes such as illness. Yet a man with a moustache is deemed a larger threat; there was a good article on Digg about this a few days ago. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ If only gay sex caused global warming Why we're more scared of gay marriage and terrorism than a much deadlier threat. Silly ain't it. Fears misplaced, thanks to for example the media. Influenza isn't sensational. 'Threats' like anthrax seem so, as it's human doing. Yet it's insignificant.
