Wireless Congestion In My Room! Damn this technology
Omkar™ replied to Omkar™'s topic in Computer Networks
Well, here's what I've thought of you sugesstions- Use Wired Stuff-Now that goes basically against my principle of using wireless! Of course I can switch to wired stuff, but then that would create a 'visible' mess in my room! Move things out-Yeah, cool - but I like to make things available to me in the same room, at the same place. I could of course move the TV and DVD to another room, but the reason why its in the same room is that I want to use the 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Speakers with my PC AND DVD AND TV AND Music System (Not at the same time!!! ) Just kidding. So, if you could suggest anything technologically satisfying, it would be great! -
This is actually hilarious, but I managed to write this down after my friend finished laughing his head off! I have a 6x10 feet room in which I have cramped up half the things of the world and now I'm experiencing a problem I would have never dreamt of! Before I spurt out the problem, let me tell you what all I've stuffed up in my room- The PC (Of course, you'd expect that!) A TV with a remote control. A DVD Player with a separate remote control. A Music system with another remote control. A Split AC with its own remote control. No, my problem is not that I'm messing up and confusing all those remote controls! A wireless Internet router. A wireless phone terminal, yeah we use wireless landlines too! My cell phone, of course. Now, here's what I have in my PC alone- Wireless Optical Mouse. Wireless Keyboard. Printer with Bluetooth support and 128MB internal memory. Another thing is that I have integrated my Music System and my PC with 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Speakers, which are in the corners of my room, at the top. According to my technician (He's a bit psycho !) these things create a magnetic field in my room when they're powered on. The real problem starts here! As the topic title suggests, I have been experiencing wireless congestion in my room! (Yeah, with all that, you could expect this, won't you?!) And here are the loads of problems I seem to have- Internet Connection-The wireless router keeps losing packets and gives 25 errors every 5 minutes, affecting data flow and the loads of data transfer I have to do to my web servers. It also occasionally gets disconnected and merely loses all contact with the PC. (By the way, I've set it up on Wireless LAN to my PC) Bluetooth Printer-Large print jobs get sucked into a black hole somewhere and I get nothing out of the printer. Printing directly from my Cell is out of question, it hardly ever even detects the damn printer on bluetooth! TV and DVD Remotes don't work-That's it! They just don't do anything! Damn! I changed the batteries, checked up the TV, everything. I still have to go all the way to the TV to change the channel/volume. Frustrated! Music System Remote-Its not at all remote , it (seldom) works only if I'm within 2 inches of the system. And if I'm unlucky, even that doesn't work! PC trouble-Yeah, I do have wireless keyboard and mouse, but its mobility is so very limited! I can't even take the keyboard and place it on my lap, it loses connection! The mouse falls down, I get an error on Windows XP - 'Unplug/Eject hardware'. I pick it up and I see 'Found new hardware'! The phone things-My cell phone and the wireless landline terminal conflict with each other as well as with every other thing in the room! I can't hear 3 continuous words on my cell, and I never successfully make a call from the landline - it just doesn't get through the dial tone! Now, with all those problems going haywire in my room (without wires too! ), the weirdest thing is that the split AC and its remote control work just fine! From any corner of the room, even with weak batteries! Now that is really driving me nuts! All these things fighting like hell in my room and the AC is cool, doing its job very well! So, now you must have got an idea that I'm totally frustrated with my room and its problems! I need to find a solution, desperately! I'll upload a pic of my 'wireless, but congested' room as soon as I figure out a way to transfer it from my cell to the PC...(Don't blame me!) If anyone of you can show me a way out or even show your regrets for that matter, I'd be grateful! By the way, my friend's thinking of bringing in new wireless headphones for my PC. Being overcome by his gratitude, I could not deny him! And now I need a solution before he brings that in and sees its not functional in all this mess!

Firstly, congratulations for a new account on Xisto. You have already (almost) got your account and you really should be waiting for 10 days to get started! But anyway, being a happily hosted member of Xisto, I'd like to give you the following details-Go to https://support.xisto.com/ (Not linked, do manually) Then click on "1.Create a hosting account" Now that your account has been approved, you must not have any problem registering here using your Xisto login ID. After you complete the registration, I thoroughly recommend that you save the last page of the registration process for later reference. It has important details that you'd need while starting up for your hosting account. For a quick reference, you should start by visiting your cPanel at : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ OR http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

That's quite a good idea, msabas('s brother, I should say!) . Well, have you guys seen the latest wireless hearing aids? They are about the size of a peanut and go into your ear from the back side! If hard-hearing people can wear those all day and everyday, I bet we could do that too! As for the mic, you could always use a separate collar-mic. We can have bluetooth between them so that there's no wire stuff in wireless cells! And yes, the voice-activated cell software can be nicely incorporated into a microchip and put into the main speaker itself. Now, the only problems we would face are- Where to put the main communicating device? ( did we forget this?!) What about the power or storage batteries? ( Damn!) Also, on the dark(er) side, all we could do on it would be just make (or receive) voice calls, and in this cheesy new technology-addicted world, nobody would want just that! Anyways, those were the pros and cons, now you decide what its really worth!

This actually depends on what exactly you mean by 'Hacked'. It has several meanings - You lost your data Your data is messed up and currupted Your password is exposed to public What you should do depends on this . So, I'll be glad to reply to you once you clear that question!

Methods for Verification of Identity? My website, Omkarâs Hub, features invites to Google Services on request, for which I have put up a form. Now, keeping up the very reason why Google kept its service âInvitation Onlyâ, I have to see to it that no spammers get into Google Networks via my site. For this purpose, I need to verify the identity of the requestors, and see to it that they are NOT spammers! I have devised the following methods of verification- Now, I have found that only the first method works for most people. Not many people have Digital Certificates. No one ever seems to get 5 individuals to guarantee their identity. The âAny Otherâ thing doesnât seem to work for, well, anybody! So, I request you to suggest me some (more) viable methods of verification of oneâs identity. Please note that most of these requests are from foreign countries, and it is not possible for me to come in direct contact with these requestors. All your help will be duly acknowledged. ---- Disclaimer:Omkar's Hub is not associated with the Google Networks in any way whatsoever, it just avails of the private 'invitation' service provided by Google, which is available to the webmaster(s) of Omkar's Hub, as a GMail Account Holder.

The Illusion Of (free) On The Internet!
Omkar™ replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
This post, I presume, can be a corollary to Dr. Tamer Aly's main post tor 'The illusion of (free) On The Internet!', but I hope the moderators here don't move my post to a new topic! I wish to emphasize on the fact that it may be very true that nothing comes for free, but even the things that we pay for, aren't usually worth it. There is always a paid substitute for free software, but is it always worth it? For example, there are many free CD-DVD Burning softwares available for 'free' (agreeing with the definition of Dr. Tamer Aly), but there's Nero - we got to pay for it - and a whole lot too! What more does it give? It burns my CDs and DVDs - Yes, the free things does that too. It erases my old CD-RWs/DVD-RWs - the free thing does that too. What more do you expect from a CD-DVD Burner? Make CD covers which is actually image editing software? And pay a whole lot more what you actually didn't intend to do with your software?! What I wish to convey is that sometimes, so-called 'free' software is worth more than the 'paid' software. So, for newbies - if you've found a free (keeping in mind Dr. Tamer Aly's definition) resource, then look for the same resouce in paid version. Compare the two and see what (more) does the paid version offers you. Do you really need all that much? Think again, the so-called 'free' software might just be your cake, despite all its costs!!! ---- Disclaimer:I've figured out that I don't need a disclaimer here! -
Cheers, doudou! Another great volunteer to keep Microsoft down its guts on its monopoly on Internet Explorer. Mozilla deserves it. Good work. You made a good decision to switch to Mozilla Firefox amongst other browsers, because its the best one as long as you're using Windows. Others like Opera are fit for MacOS Users... Now that you have got Firefox (at last!) and you are aware of its plugins, I'd like to tell you that there are literally millions of extensions out there for Firefox (Yes, those plugins are actually known as 'Extentions'). You will find a forum right here listing the best of Firefox plugins. I'll look it up and post the link here some other time, but you can hit 'search' in Xisto to find it yourself! And its real good to stuff up extensions to your Firefox to make it (more) shiny! By the way, here's what I use- 1.SessionSaver for Firefox - It saves the open Tabs when you close firefox and resumes 'em when you're back! It can also 'Snap-back' tabs that you closed by mistake. Cool thing - A must use for me... 2.Ad-Blocker Plus - Saves your bandwidth by NOT downloading the useless ADs on webpages, making the main thing load faster! Again, I have limited bandwidth, so great one for me! 3.FasterFox - Add more thrust to your cable speed! Yes, this one does really speed up! It also puts a timer next to the progress bar so that you know how much time it took for you to download that page! Those were just a few, since I can't type all of 'em in! But you should see the database on mozilla.com for more great ones! Have fun with firefox!

As far as I know, from my experience with Xisto Web Hosting, I never got that 'Welcome to your Xisto account' page on top of my site. I uploaded my site via frontpage, and here's what I'd like to stress upon- Any FTP Client can upload to both the ROOT directory and the public_html directory You have to explicitly see that it uploads to the public_html directory. Uploading a page to the ROOT directory won't work, because you can't access it anyway. I'd suggest that you do NOT use the Windows FTP (IIS) Services, because they are unreliable. If you still have problems, then you should try uploading your 'index.html' file using the File Manager in Cpanel at Xisto - that just has to work! PM me for any doubts if you wish...

Here's a novel idea for garbage collection in congested cities- In congested apartment buildings, there's always a problem of where to put the trash. Well, I've worked out a solution! At the time of construction, a vertical hollow column be inserted such that it passes through each of the kitchens in the building. There may be multiple such columns so that all kitchens are covered in a vertical column. Then, each kitchen would bear an opening to the metal-fortified anti-rust column. From that opening, there would be a movable flat plate placed horizontally, about 2 feet below it. Hence, if there are 6 kitchens vertically one below the other, there would be 6 such plates in the same manner. At the time of collection, an electronic or mechanic switch/lever would move the plates such that they fall vertically to either side and the garbage placed on top of them falls to the bottom automatically. The garbage collector may then take all the garbage out at the same time from an opening at the bottom of the building (the basement). Such a system would ensure convenience to both the residents and the garbage collector, thus eliminating the need for dust-bins! ---- Please review the above idea and post your comments or criticism! All duly acknowledged by me!

Thanks for initiating the idea, Sonoftheclayr. But here are the cons- Unfortunately, all human efforts to create something 'alive' have been unsuccessful till date. What you have suggested is an 'active' thing with AI (Artificial intelligence). But that, at this stage is not possible. Microbes and germs have been created just like us - and hence they have the brains to do what they do. It is not possible to (1) Create a biological active creature, (2) That has AI and (3) That would fight other intelligent biological 'real' microbes! I am also sure tat the scientist around the Earth wouldn't be so keen to research on such an idea for the sake of a 'toothpaste'! What we are using right now is artificial enough and further employing it with these technological nanobots would not integrate with our biological system (the human body)!!! Sorry for these 'Dream Shattering Statements' (DSS)* but I believe that its a (tough) fact! *Defining DSS would actually turn out to be a better brainstorm!

Seems like you people are already fed up with the bugs of Windows XP! Awaiting so eagerly for Windows Vista is amusing me! Honestly, you should try out MacOS X before you even wait for Windows Vista. Gear up your existing PC to use Vista and you'll be spending a fortune already! Trust me - Vista is high-tech all right but it needs that high-tech hardware too! Running the very basic things in Vista requires you to have at least 1GB RAM (Unless you want to wait forever for things to show up) and a 512MB 3D Graphics Accelerator Card with DirectX 9 Support. First, you don't get these things, and if you do, then they're too expensive for you! You don't have to try the BETA if you're installing SPs all over the stable version in the first place!!! No criticism, just my opinion...
-
Hey! My version of Google Talk has (had) automatic updates, so I automatically got the latest BETA of Google Talk without having to explicitly download it! I happened while I was chatting, so I didn't even know! Well, as long as its BETA (Like most of Google's features) you don't expect it to be perfect! I don't think they're planning to go for the first stable version so soon - they're being innovative and they will be adding features not found in Yahoo and other messengers... Please check out the 'Automatic Updates' section in your Google Talk settings to see whether they're enabled! Keep updated!

Well, Soad, can you give an introduction and kind of start the topic yourself? I do use HALO, but I think you should start writing in here first... Sorry - I actualy meant to say 'PLAY' HALO - you can't 'USE' it, can you?! Please give me a good headstart!

In a world of wireless communication, why not have some less-wires for your PC?! Frankly speaking, we never go to play catch in the mess of wires behind the PC, so it should bother you much - you hardly ever see 'em! But nevertheless, I do have a completely (data) wireless PC! No wires except for those of the AC cords for the CPU and the Monitor to the UPS. That's how we argue (me and my dad)... It looks quite geek, but you actually never look at it!

Well, I'm glad my worst fears didn't come true! I didn't lose any of my data! By the way, the status screen shows that the POP3 Server for Gamma is unavailable, but I just checked my mail and it working fine - even with SSL Security and all! Thanks for the link, organicbmx!

My Xisto Website seems to be unavailable currently. The Time is : 4:15 PM IST (GMT+5:30hrs) The browser gives a "Server Timeout Error". Is this a temporary server downtime, or do I have to re-configure my site or something? I also have enough credits to go on with - 17 at this time... My site is : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

The Best FREE FTP Client Well, many people seem to want FREE FTP clients out here, so I'd like to refer them - FreshFTP 3.10 (Free FTP Client) from FreshDevices Free download on : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ You need to register there with a valid Email ID. They send you a confirmation, when you accept it, they send you the link to download the software. Then they send you a FREE registration code which is in your name and unlocks the software for more then 30 days. Its pretty good GUI and works fine for most people. Supports loads of features like Passive Mode, Auto-Transfer Type etc. You'll never need another one...

Well, you see C, C++ are just "Starter" languages. They teach you the basics of programming and you never get a job by just learning C/C++. Since you've done Java before, I suggest that you start with a language which will help you in designing. PHP and MySQL are the most popular languages at this time. You might even consider ASP.NET which is Microsoft's and seek job opportunities there. But trust me - don't go for Python or Java and all. These are Object Oriented Languages which are no use in programming. They are used to build softwares! Best choices in order of preference - PHP and MySQL ASP.NET (Microsoft's) MsSQL (Microsoft's) Flash/Shockwave (Even if its not exactly programming, its useful in designing)

A Gmail Sign Up Webpage really needed
Omkar™ replied to CaptainRon's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, I've added exactly the thing you asked to my website : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I've set up a form that allows you to enter your Name and Existing Email ID. It comes to me. It gets processed in a database, which checks whether the information is genuine (Whether the Email ID is valid & Name is not nonsense) then if it passes all the tests, it comes to my Gmail Inbox, where I promptly send an invite to genuine requisites! Well, I got 99 invites left with me and I don't imagine thousands of people will be coming to my site asking for invites and I'd have to handle loads of traffic then. But its fine for me - I've served 11 people till now... -
Hey, M^E, please explain to me how exactly the "Backup Site" function in Cpanel works. Cause my site is around 65MB now, and I can't afford to download the whole thing again and again! By the way, if anyone's using phpBB2 forum out there, then there is an option for "Backup MySQL Database" and "Recover MySQL Database" in the Administration Panel. That's pretty useful, as you can download the GZipped DB which turns out to be very small in size! Unless you use other DBs that is! Hope m^e reads this soon, I've worked real hard to build my site, and its not even completely up yet!

I have planned to install 123Flash Chat on my website. Well, I downloaded the free chat server software (demo) and uploaded it to my site in the root "public_html" folder. Their website says that it can be integrated into an existing phpBB forum. So I downloaded the module for phpBB and am trying to configure it. I desperately need help on configuring the server software and integrating it into my phpBB forum. Their manual/documentation is around 300kb (pdf format) and is utterly confusing. I simply cannot get it to work on my server! Another thing - their configuration asks for the URL of an existing MySQL Database, please tell me where I can find this URL (never heard of an URL for a database)
