  1. I personally prefer about.com's tutorials on C/C++. That's where I have started and I am finding the in-depth information very useful. The navigation of the tutorials is a little confusing at first, but you'll get the hang of it eventually. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  2. I've actually taken to learning C first (not C++ or Visual C++). I wanted to tackle this first, move onto Visual Basic (as per m^e's advice) and then finally move onto the other languages like Java. I'm finding the concepts of C and the way it all works quite simple and logical. I've not actually looked at Java in any detail, so I suppose it doesn't qualify me for saying anything. But the only thing we can truly say is go for the one that you want to do the most. I know there are the issues of concepts and such, but some people have already said that they would have preferred to have learnt C first then Java and vice-versa. So, in all I think it depends on the person and their way of thinking.
  3. Well that is certainly a lot of Thank you. There are two main types of search engines availble for your site. One searches your site for keyword/phrase results. This is known as the site search. The other kind searches the web for keyword/phrase results. Search engines are often made using Perl/CGI. I would opt for going to a website like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ o find pre-made scripts that you can customize. For web searches, you're best of using the Google API and PHP to create your custom web search engine using Google. http://code.google.com/ Please realise that if you do not have any experience in Perl or you are not willing to learn, then it will be much harder for you to use or develop a custom Search Engine. There is always the preset site search/web search services provided by Google. https://www.google.com/cse/
  4. I don't know if this will work, but you could try using the php include() function. <? include("pagename.xul"); ?> Then, in the XUL page, declare what javascript file you're using.
  5. The best and most easiest one I have come across is PHPDEV5, http://www.firepages.com.au/. I use it and it is very simple. It comes with:
  6. I think the only CDs that have Linux distro on them for free are Ubuntu. They quite happily sent me an order of 20 for nothing. Here in the UK, some discs in magazines do come with the Mozilla Firefox browser with them, for souch cases. I personally downloaded the latest FF and copied it to my memory stick, that way every computer I am allowed access to will be loaded with FF.
  7. lmao. So that is where you are going wrong on the first one m^e B)The second one is quite disgusting, but at the same time pee funny.
  8. That is hilarious. What is so confusing about allowing people to sell something that was initially free? It isn't like the people selling Firefox are putting there name on it and saying this is our work.
  9. Windows/Linux have my vote. I much prefer Win2K though. One because it works well with all my programs and two because it is just good. I also like Ubuntu Linux distro, but I haven't reinstalled it yet. Mac can drown for all I care.Bill Gates is a mythical creature.
  10. It's often much easier to use templates, but in the growing demand for individualism and cross-browser compliance, they are becoming a pain in the backside.Templates (especially the free/very cheap ones) use the simplest way to get the effect desired. The authors only use a limited amount of CSS and use every IE tag in HTML possible. More-often-than-not the pages aren't even Doctyped, because their isn't a Doctype for REWRITE THIS SO THAT IT WORKS IN OTHER BROWSERS. You'll also find that they use tables. Why? Because it is easier and they are doing it for free. That is why I prefer to use template images as part of my brainstorming sessions and create my own site from scratch. At least then I know what is going on and where.
  11. Have you tried going to the vendor's website? http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It took me a couple of seconds to find that via Google, then a couple more through the website.
  12. You could try using Windows XP CD. Boot up your computer with CD-Rom set as the first boot device, then run XP through that. I'm sure it comes with a built-in repair tool.As for the HD with the drop problem, you're best taking it to the manufacturer's or going to a good PC store that does repairs.
  13. I still use Dreamweaver for it's syntax highlighting and in document error checking. It is a lot easier using Dreamweaver code view to create my work than using Wordpad all of the time. I suppose if you do want syntax highlighting, then there is always notepad++ Dreamweaver causes little error, and the errors in the code that do appear are mainly due to human error. I agree with technocian though, it is better to learn the core scripting language (HTML http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp) and I would also add that you look into styles and formatting with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp) so that your pages become even more valid with HTML 4.1.
  14. I'm boring then lol. Only three (if that sites). But then again, we all don't have the luxury of working from home.I suppose from what youve said m^e, it wouldn't be too much of a easy thing to hack.
  15. What part are you talking about? The inside (where the ball is on those old ones) or the tops of the mouse and sides? On the inside, I suppose it is an accumulation of crap and rubber (from the ball) but on the outside it is just Mouse Poop.I don't think there is a technical name for it. Perhaps we should give it one.
  16. Lmfao. Just when I thought Microsoft couldn't get any worse.
  17. I'm sure over at Xisto, Saint_Michael, one of the mods there has got a site full of grunge brushes that he uses. Just skim and scan the signature related forums there and I am sure you will be able to find them. There are ways to create your own, but I am not into Photoshop, so how it is done, I do not know.
  18. As far as I am aware, microscopic^earthling (admin) uses it. He showed me the link to get it, but I personally don't like the aspect of it saving all of my usernames and passwords. I know that it is secure, but nothing is 100% secure. Someone somewhere will be figuring out a way to crack RoboForm and will sometime accomplish it.HellFire, browsers only have a limited amount of security when saving form information. That is why RoboForm was produced. To fill the gaps in security. The only thing I have on autoform is my usernames. Having a username isn't a security issue, it's the password that goes with it.
  19. Sorry, I was getting tired at the time of making my post and no, you didn't offend me. I just felt as though you were going at 70mp/h. --mik
  20. Personally, I use Ares (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/).It is a really stable free p2p program with hundreds of thousands of users and best of all, it's quick loading and has no adware/spyware/viruses with it.I used to use Shareaza, but I couldn't deal with the number of dead or half-completed files it allowed. It once took me two hours to download a 5Kb text file with the tutorial on Run commands. I know that wasn't shareaza's fault, but rather the user group.
  21. Hello aciminsk, hope you enjoy your time here and I am looking forward to your posts. To steal m^e's idea, just a little review of the rules here. [tab][/tab]At Xisto Forums, if you make posts that contain material directly copied from other sites, you're supposed to do the following: Make sure the entire copied part is put between QUOTE tags Make sure that at the end of the quoted block, the originating web-page is mentioned in such a manner that a single click will lead to the originating article Include the original author's name is applicable. Failure to do so it considered Plagiarism - which, on our forums, is synonymous with SPAMMING. For every such SPAM you receive a warning. 5 warnings lead to a permanent ban. Also, when such posts are found, all the credits you gained for it are entirely deducted. --mik
  22. May I ask why? For VB tutorials, go to: http://www.vbtutor.net/vbtutor.html
  23. Well if you have been banned for a reason, then I don't see as how we should help you over-come their security against you. If in the case that you have been honest and not done what they are suggesting, then contact them and ask for their proof of what you have done.
  24. Hello no seems to be a good concept. But, I would have to say Hell no in any situation. Even if I were stranded, I would eat poisonous leafs before even thinking about nibbling on someone's leg.But you do raise a point, that social conditioning of our minds has lead us to not each other (apart from the extreme cases). I think it is the best way, but who knows really if you've never done it.
