  1. How are you connected to the router ? Through an Ethernet cable ?I had this problem once with a NIC adapter falling, I corrected it when I discovered that in the MS-Windows "properties" of the NIC was checked "allow Microsoft Windows to power off this device when needed". I unchecked the "allow" box and had no more problems.
  2. Now, we found the ultimate secret of happiness : be happy with what you have, be proud of what your are !
  3. Sorry, but my English is rather poor.I could eventually provide you with a free photograph, as a matter of advertisement because my photos are not well-known yet. However ... could you tell me what is a "splat" ? Is it a fruit (like an apple) ? Or is it a car ? Or is it a person suddenly falling on the floor ?
  4. That's right. That's exactly the way I am currently thinking, which allows me to be happy and proud of myself. Unfortunately, evrytime I reall sit and think this through, I fail the test. Then I am really less proud.
  5. Thanks, I'll give it a try. I hope it's not like the Microsoft one Photorecit environment, which creates a .mwv file which can be played only on a Crosoft-Compatible machine.I was also slightly disappointed with Photo DVD wizard, the "add a music" option seems not to work, and it created a DVD which is not readable...
  6. and let's hope all of us will be alive and healthy!
  7. Yes, in all SQL RDBMS the syntax is very similar.CREATE TABLE to create a tableALTER TABLE to change the table structureINSERT INTO table to add rowsetc...Very few differences between Oracle, Ingres, Informix, Mysql, PostGre.Of course, things are easier if you use integrated scripts like the ones in cpanel, but sometimes you have to understand basics, or at least know the terminology.
  8. I guess that each server will try to get the whole available bandwidth. This is the best way when a single guy is really working, and the other ones do nothing. As soon as one guy needs bandwith, he obtains everything. If two or three guys try to download simultaneously, the bandwidht will be shared "almost" equally, simply the fastest system will get most of the Ethernet packets, the slowest machine will go slower.
  9. Nicely answered, Hercco.I must confess that i was confused by the topic title, I understood the " Updating A Database's Tables" by updating some rows in a table, which is different from insert but thas nothing to do with the ALTER TABLE notion.Sorry again Yordan
  10. Usually, it's rather easy to update a table in a database. The syntax is something like "insert into MYTABLE values SOMETHING, SOMETHING_ELSE, ..."Was this your exact question ?
  11. Nicely said, guy ! Thanks a lot ! Since many years I think exactly that, and I didn't know how to express it. Next time I will have to use simple words for explainint the difference between Crosoft and Unix I will say : "cheap coffe vs real coffee"!
  12. You have to go to the hardware manager (something like right click on "my computer", then "material", then "hardware manager", see your "unknown device", and delete it.Then unplug your printer, and restart your installation as stated without plugging the cable. Then, everything should finish correctly. Hope this helped Yordan
  13. If you use this disk as a live backup, no problem if you loose the backup while the original data are still available. Of course, if you loose both the original data and the backup, you step into big trouble.
  14. The question seems to be : "What made you Switch from Microsoft Windows to Linux " ?This seems to suppose that there are only three kinds of people : Microsoft People, Linux people, and switching people. This is not completely true. There are people being neither Crosoft neither Linux people. In my real life, I started with a Unix-Like project. Then, I added PC-DOS on IBM-PC. I loved the principle of personal computers at reasonable cost. Now I am fanatic of free ms-dos-like operating systems. I have to cope with Crosoft because they are sold as part of the home computers you buy in most supermarkets today. And, in professional world, workstations are now mostly Crosoft-Based.Of course, my main pleasure is Unix systems. There are a lot of Unix Operating systems, depending on the platform : Sun-OS, HP-UX, AIX. And SCO on Inter X86 platforms. All of these softwares costed a lot, because they were multi-task/Multi-user operating systems for a lot of users on huge machines. Now Linux comes, and most of its distros have a free version. So, for me it's a Unix system looking last most of the other standard ones, and it's my preferred version because I can put it on my home computers for free. However, I must say, I never swithced. I always was a Unix man, ms-dos looked like a Unix command line system, and Linux looks like a powerful and free Unix system with graphics and telecoms.Isn't this nice ? A fully Linux fanatic since sevarl years, who never had to switch to Linux ?RegardsYordan
  15. I suppose that the 300 GB drive gets hot because you use it (spinning, and the actuator going forth and back in order to retrieve your data).I don't really think a 750 GB will heat a lot more : you will not use longer your bigger disk, you will do the same job during the same time, simply you will erase the unused data less frequently.
  16. Xisto does not really work like google. At Xisto you ask a question, and somebody answers. At google, you ask a question and you are redirected to a page with the answer. I don't really like the Xisto search engine, very often I use it in order to retrieve a page I liked (for instance the post concerning the ssh templates) and the Xisto search result is "sorry". Of course, one way would be to ask the question again, but I'm sure the answer would be "use the search button" !
  17. Did you look here ? http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/ I did not try it personnally, because when I work with Linux I do not really care fonts...Another way of looking for that : Hope this helpedYordan
  18. If you're really 10, and if you really used the test mentionned above and reached 70wpm continuously during one full minute, then, yes, really, congratulations ! Yordan
  19. Yes, really your "own" songs. At Xisto you can only host the songs you play (singing in a microphone, playing your own guitar, the music you invented and the song you wrote really by yourself. Music from other people are trademarked by the CD-recording companies, so you must not rip their CD's and put them on your Xisto site. Simply read the Xisto hosting rules.
  20. Thanks a lot for the info ! You can upload files, donwload files, share files with friends, it's really great !If you want to share a whole folder with a friend, you click "share", and the server sends your friend a mail with a link to a dynamically created page from where he can download each file. The server is also able to zip a whole folder. And, last but not least, unlike Xisto, it allows you really big files : 30 megs per file ! Thanks again for that info. Regards Yordan
  21. Er... Let's see.You want me to buy nothing for nothing, right.I give you nearly noghint and you give me absolutely nothing.OK, let's go.Just a moment.... Are you sure that your transaction is really safe ? No hacker could see what we are doing and intercept my nothing, preventing you from getting my nothing and getting in turn your fully nothing in his virtual pocket ? If yes, please receive my virtual greetings.
  22. Namely binod12 wanted to know how to read a tgz file... So knowing that the answer is inside the file looks far more frustrating... @binod12 : your tgz file should be uncompressed by the following command : CONSOLE tar xzvf my_filename.tgz
  23. Some millions years ago, a human being did not have much things than necessary for eating today. When people started having more than strictly necessary, other people started stealing the "above necessity" belongings. Then the excess of richness started being secured by computers. And then hacking stopped being a funny game and started being a very dangerous activity.
