Help Me Decide On My Next Computer Case
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Killer008r's topic in General Discussion
Mini freezer :|.... just cause it would get automatic cool points (ooooh I'm so witty)But yea I'd say look at the various options and whichever seems like you'd be able to make the best out of without compromising system safety go with that... hard to judge without seeing the parts -
Yea cleaning the cpu fan/heat spreaders can help a fair bit. I'd also reccomend adding a fan or two if there is only like one fan in the case. Having some pulling in air and another pushing it out creates a nice airflow through the case and keeps it cooled alot better in my experience. I had an issue with mine running at about 60-65 when I'd run games and it would crash the system as it was hitting my bios set shutdown points... but I added one intake fan to the front and have one out fan on the back and now it runs a good 5-10 degrees lower at all times and heat dissapeates at an exponentially faster rate.

It's nothing I would personally be interested in. It's just not my style I guess, but I can see why some people would really enjoy it so I figure why not? The iPod line has been going strong so it's not a surprise that they are going to keep branching out as much as possible and as long as they keep giving quality products I dont see a problem with it.

Thats actaully what I had on there but it was pretty bloated, kept the hardware chugging alot even with light environments. The plan is to probably end up going with DSL I think... but I'm currently going to install slackware on it just out of curiosity. I've heard alot about it so want to check it out and figure this is as good a time as any, but yea DSL is seeming like a probably end point

Yea It's going to be mostly for file sotrage/serving but I need a few other things to be done on it from time to time so I'm going to be leaving a graphical frontend on it. Just for those times, so nothing snazzy is required.Yea I used Mandrake for awhile, wasn't a huge fan... don't really remember why. I don't need a beginners distro, while I'm not a Linux Guru by any means I can handle myself and dont get scared if I stumble into new territory so I'll probably be trying some of these distros shortly. It's looking like DSL and Debian will both make their way onto the box over the next few days.

It sounds interesting for ppeople who like that sort of game. personally I hate it when people just take a classic game and convert it into a more complex version of itself, but thats just me. I know alot of people like that sort of stuff so you could have a nice little cash cow on your hands there. Good luck with getting it marketed and manufactured

Alright so I have obtained enough loose components to create a working system and I've decided I'm going to put it on the network in my apartment and use it as a media storgae box. Basically it'll just hold some random data and lots of movies and whatnot that I will hopefully be playing out to the tv in my living room. The system specs are approx:1.0ghz Duron128mb ram40gb hd8gb hddvd romcd burner9600pro 128mb video cardNow, what I'm looking for is a linux distro that has good hardware auto detection but is also really light weight. I'm interested in Smallish install size, fast on the slower hardware, but still functional. I have Suse9.3 on it now but that thing is pretty bloated, it's fine for my main computer but even using small desktop environments its kinda sluggish on my newly created monster. Anyways if you guys can suggest some Distro's (and the best low end hardware alternatives to KDE/Gnome) I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

How Can I Start Learning Linux
Jeigh1405241495 replied to david_ytk's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The first step in my mind is deciding if you are sure you want to learn it or not. I say this only because of the 'live cds" most distros have now. They allow you to download a cd worth of data and you boot from, letting you run linux with most/all features without installing a thing. Sure there are limitations but that would be almost moreso just to explore the feel of linux a bit.If you've decided you DO want to learn linux (which you seem to) I'd say learn about partitioning your HD with the distro you choose (most come with built in partitioning software now) and just install it. Once you have it installed just play around with everything. Worst case scenario, you break something important and reinstall. Best case scenario you learn alot. The forums for whatever distro you get are probably very helpful. For beginners I would suggest getting either Fedora, Suse, Mandrake, or Ubuntu. All are very user friendly linux distros and easy to get into. They all have great user support as well so anytime you have a problem the answer is probably out there on a forum, and if not just ask and it'll likely be answered quickly. There is alot to linux, but getting the basics down enough to handle day-to-day usage is not too big of a deal so good luck and have fun. Oh, and welcome to the greener side of the fence -
Sequels Are they really sequels?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to uncle bob1405241504's topic in Computer Gaming
Completely depends on the game... but then again it would also depend on each person idea of what makes a sequel... personally I consdier most sequels to be more like the expansion packs that we dont see much of anymore... they slowly tricked us into either accepting EP's as 'sequels' or they release tiny packs super often (*cough sims cough*) -

Don't Overclock Your Notebook! instead, down-volt it
Jeigh1405241495 replied to irwan6179's topic in Hardware Workshop
While I figured overclocking a notebook would be dumb (they're hot enough without making them hotter), never really thought about doing this... if I get one I might have to try it out, seems like it could be worth taking a look into. -
Screenshots Of Microsoft Office 12
Jeigh1405241495 replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'll likely use it eventually somewhere, but I'll stick to what I have now until I have a reason to switch. I'll likely see it at school or in the workplace first... Frankly I'm not that excited and I dont like the new look from what I've seen, but to ech their own -
Kanye West Disses Bush Video
Jeigh1405241495 replied to troyilicious82's topic in General Discussion
the whole time Myers looks like he's trying to telepathically tell someone to cut West's mic or something haha, priceless. BUt yea I agree with the "wrong place, wrong time" sentiment. That's not going to make people any more likely to donate seeing someone randomly *****ing about Bush... that happens often enough haha. -
I say let them try. Competition is the driving force between the users getting better products, better services, better value, etc. Competition drives humanity to better themselves...and God knows M$ can better themselves So yes, let them try, Google's big enough now to survive an onslaught by M$ probably as long as they don't underestimate the threat, so I say let the games begin.

Microsoft France Exposes Vista Release Date
Jeigh1405241495 replied to plot's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I really couldn't be less excited for Vista anymore haha... maybe its just me... I mean it'll be nice and all but excluding the flashier look I havn't seen anything that I'm actually overly excited about (except a couple features they dropped from the final version lol). But at least its good to know when its comming out -
Yea seems good, but I never need it to shutdown quickly so I probably wont bother. But for people who like everything to hop along as fast as possible, good stuff

Why Do Some People Mistreat Newbies ?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to cyph3r's topic in General Discussion
One time I was sexin up this chick and she called me a n00b and kicked me out of her bed.........But nah seriously most people seem to fry "n00bs" to feel suprerior I guess. So many people online are seriously on a "OMG I R T3H 1337!" psycho trip and they just try to make themselves seem as much above anyone and everyone else as possible. Myself, I know I've done it sometimes if someone does something STUPID...like common sense should have stopped it... but otherwise I try my best to help out the 'n00bs'. I know I have been one, and will be in places I'm new too many times more and it's nice to help out and be helped in return. But alas, ever since the first man stepped onto the inatrwebs, he was ready to bash the one that followed for being a n00b. Too bad but its assumedly here to stay :S -
AMD: Sempron Or Athlon - Which One Do I Buy ?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to marcin's topic in Hardware Workshop
Yea, unless money is a real issue I'd reccomend stearing clear of the budget processors... I've had some bad experiences with them on my own machine and friends/family. Not necessarily that they are 'bad' but the performance is just never what you would expect. If you are into gaming at all I would for sure say wait until you can get the real deal as the neutered Sempron's just dont have as much kick to them. -
Is It Worth It To Get Gmail ? Is Gmail Good?
Jeigh1405241495 replied to wazzupster0204's topic in Search Engines
Gmail Pros - Reliable, huge storgae capacity, awesome interface, little/no spam, good support, fast, it stores emails/replies together in a tabbed chat log style so a big email convo is easily found in one spot rather then having to find all the original emails, etcGmail cons - None. People who hate gmail should be kicked in the sack. It's better then aaaaaaaaaaaany email I've used...bar none. Get one today and drop the old accounts you have :DIt does have ad sensitive ads... meaning gmail has hardware scan your emails for key words and then places ads that relate to the mail content. Some ppl freak over privacy issues relating to this. In reality its just like scanning a file for anything else... if it finds certain words it places certain ads. Its not like they actually look into your email. -
I use photoshop for bigger "projects" and paint shop pro for smaller little things just because its quicker to load and the base stuff seems quicker/easier to use. Both are awesome programs though.I've used the gimp and it seemed impressive, especially for free software, but it just didn't 'feel' right to me. I do plan to give it another shot though... maybe I will right now, it's looking like it'll be an empty day here at work if I dont find some way to entertain myself haha. If I check it out I'll throw up some new impressions
-
It'd be nice for them to finally go full out... but at the same time I cant imagine it'll affect me any. I've been gmailing long before this, will be long after... the title or how many others can or cant sign up doesn't affect me haha

Im From Google - Googletalk Beta
Jeigh1405241495 replied to sparx's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Because they know gmail is superior to whatever mail you are using and thus want everyone to switch to it?They probably just want to integrate it nicely with gmail, they already have all the inbox notification, I'm sure they could add more... all these features are just broken space if you dont link it to a gmail accountThath having been said I installed Google Tlkl last night...lost interest quickly... I'll keep it around incase it catches on or anyone I know uses it but otherwise it's got some growing to do before I'm gonna start using it alongside my others.
